Restoring the failing Whitfield Castle while wooing his defiant intended proves more challenging than Ian anticipated. This was my first Ketchersid book, and medieval England is outside my normal time periods, so I didn't know what to expect when I agreed to read this book for review. Well, it was worth my time. First of all, enemies to lovers is one of the best tropes ever; just so fun. Ever since Claire found out that a Scot was inheriting her home and marriage to her was part of the bargain, she did everything she could to make things difficult for Ian. I love how he won her over with his patience, regard for her opinion, and by caring for the land and people that she loved. Both Ian and Claire struggled with their faith, and for large chunks of the book didn't think about it at all, until Ian's sister Fiona showed up and challenged both of them with the truth if how the gospel could change their hearts and outlook. Unfortunately, their brother Niall also came with her, and Ian and Claire each had to figure out whether they could trust a man who had always spent his life belittling Ian. My opinion of the book sank for a time when for a few chapters we wondered if *something* happened that actually didn't. I liked the characters, the romance, the setting, and the faith message.
The reason for the four stars is because every other page we were reminded of the physical desirability of the two main characters. I don't mind books acknowledging the fact that people sleep together, particularly once they're married. I don't mind knowing that physical attraction is part of the equation in their relationship. I don't even mind if the book has multiple conversations about it as the characters decide whether to wait for a priest. But when the book is heavy handed with its reminders of how much the two can't wait to get each other in bed, I think it can be problematic. Still, it was well within the range of clean fiction and did not have any actual bed scenes.
I'd recommend this to enemies to lovers fans and medieval romance fans.

"Forgiving meant opening herself up to the possibility of future pain, but it would also allow her to live in freedom - freedom from the anger stealing her joy."

Sherrinda Ketchersid and her books have been such sweet discoveries! This book is her second and gives a small glimpse into Malcolm from the first book but is in no way a sequel and definitely stands alone (but my heart squealed to hear about Malcolm in this book since he was such a swoony hero). This medieval romance will captivate you with the quick-paced plot, fascinating characters, and witty dialogue. So much fun!

I enjoyed learning about the political climate between England and Scotland in 1204 and loved being in the atmosphere of knights and chivalry. Ian McGowan is a loyal, noble, determined hero fighting to find worth and his place in the world. Claire Beaumont is a feisty, headstrong, intelligent, and compassionate ward of the castle that Ian inherits. Claire's hatred of Scots and Ian's uncertainty and doubts from his troubled past tangle them up as Ian pursues to marry Claire for the inheritance and she thwarts him at every turn. There are villains that seek to steal what is Ian's and this subplot definitely adds action to the story. Ian's faith journey is heartwarming and Claire's journey to forgiveness is profound.

It's a story that every medieval romance fan should read. I received the book via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.

This was the first book that I have read by this author and I was very impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, which was set in the early 1200’s on the border of England and Scotland.

The main characters were great! There was some humor sprinkled throughout, especially toward the beginning of the book as the hero, Ian, struggled with his very ornery and stubborn bride-to-be, Claire. Claire had a few reasons why she did not want to be forced to marry the Scot and they truly made sense. However, in the time that these two lived, she had to eventually face the fact that she was powerless to escape the marriage.

I liked that Ian was such an honorable man and the way he approached the need for marriage to Claire, as well as the way he worked to bring the castle and lands back to working condition.

His to Keep was packed with interesting characters, a good faith message, lots of great chemistry between the two main characters, and plenty of danger to add in some uncertainty and excitement. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The characters are fun. This was a fun book to read with a bit of suspense and also lots of laughing at the antics of Claire. She’s really living up to her red hair and her hatred of all Scots. That is until she really gets to know the Scot beside her.

Ian has gotten an inheritance from his King and the English king of an estate and a bride. Of course, he didn’t count on having to sneak through the toilet channel to get into the castle as his bride-to-be is very much against letting a Scot into her home. She didn’t receive notice of this change in plans.

What happens is hilarious and kept me reading to see if Claire will ever accept Ian. Add in a nasty neighbor and then the family of Ian’s coming to visit and things get really interesting. His life at home was miserable and he can see his brother has not changed from the tormenting demon of his past through his sister has become so sweet that he would be okay with spending time with her.

Can Claire come to terms with not having a say in her life? Will Ian accept that not all people are bad and that maybe he is deserving of love? And will they come to a truce over the owner of this land and marriage?

A wonderful read and I really encourage you to read it. I enjoyed it and hope you do too.

If you’re a Tamara Leigh fan add Sherrinda Ketchersid to your TBR pile. I loved her first novel, Lord of Her Heart, and this new one is every bit as good. I mean when you have lines like this one: “You wear trouble like a crown, as if you reigned supreme over every possible mishap.” how can it not? Ian is sigh-worthy and Claire is a real spitfire. I can only ask that the next one please, please be about Phillip?

One of my goals for 2021 was to branch out more into other reading genres that I wouldn't normally gravitate towards to try to broaden my reading horizons. While I have always been a fan of historical fictions, I normally do not go as far back in history as the medieval era, but I thought it was time to give this genre a go, and I'm so glad I did!

His To Keep is a historical medieval fiction, that I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed! Set in the early 1200's, Claire is fighting for her home, even if that means having to agree to marry her enemy, Ian, a Scot that loves to give her a hard time. This is one of my favorite troupes, and throughly enjoyed the banter between these two passionate characters.

The story is pretty fast-paced, with wonderful characters, and held my attention captive the entire time I was reading, the dialogue spot on! What really fascinated me is the politics during that time, and the volatile relationship between Scotland and England, that perfectly mirrors Claire and Ian's own conflict. I loved the road to faith and forgiveness for the characters, feeling all the feels.

His to Keep has it all: action, intrigue, hate, love, and everything in between and is a novel I feel so thankful that I gave a chance. Highly recommend!

I totally went out of "comfort zone of Book Genres" by reading His to Keep by Sherrinda Ketchersid.
This book is a Historical Fiction with Romance and set in Medieval England. I am not much of a fan of Medieval times, but I liked the Synopsis of the book and the cover, so I came out of my "comfort Zone" and read it.

The setting is the 1200's. Claire Beaumont is trying to save the home she adores and loves. Scotsman Ian McGowan arrives to claim ownership of said home, due to an inheritance. Claire doens't want any Scotsman in her home. She is doing everything possible to prevent it, but it seems it isn't preventable. Ian's solution to securing the Home is that he will marry Claire. Claire isn't keen on marrying Ian, but she does want to save the home. Claire finds her herself actually changing her heart toward Ian.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters are both strong and know what they want and are very determined. I also like the Christian base of this book. A wonderful read with a Christian Historical Fiction Romance Genre. GOOD BOOK!

What an absolutely splendid story from a new-to-me author! I am a huge fan of medieval stories and sadly the last few I've tried before this one didn't work for me, but His to Keep far surpassed all my expectations, this story grabbed my attention from the very start and transported me to a different time and place! Not since Lisa T. Bergren's River of Time series have I been this enthralled with a medieval romance! I absolutely loved His to Keep and hated to stop reading! Ian and Claire were both excellent characters, I really felt for them both and I was cheering for them throughout! The writing style was perfect, it gave just enough detail to let the reader visualize the medieval setting, while also being super easy to read, and keeping the reader hooked and the pages flying! I loved absolutely everything about this story and most highly recommend it! Sherrinda Ketchersid has become a new favorite author of mine, I'm eagerly anticipating her next book, and I can't wait to go back and read her first novel ASAP!

His to Keep by Sherrinda Ketchersid features a romance with strong tension and positive themes about personal healing and growth. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers progression, though I partly think that Claire started admiring, if not liking, Ian too soon. The plot clips right along and some situations progressed quickly. I think I wanted the story to slow down and dig down deep into each character. Still, the themes about forgiveness and self-worth added a pleasing depth to the novel.

Overall, His to Keep by Sherrinda Ketchersid was a fun read. I especially enjoyed the medieval setting and unique customs presented. Due to mentions of “bedding” one another and the emphasis placed on it by certain characters, I recommend this book for older teens and above.

This era... I love it and I wish more Christian fiction were written in it. This is my first book by Sherrinda Ketchersid, and I was really intrigued by the synopsis. Plus, the cover was interesting as well.
This story starts out strong and we get a really good feel for the main characters (Ian & Claire) strengths and weaknesses, and just like real people, the image they want to project is not always who they are on the inside. Sherrinda Ketchersid did a great job capturing that element of her characters personalities. This book also does not shy away from the romance side, which I liked, although at times it was a bit heavy. Otherwise, I enjoyed Ian and Claire’s story and the faith elements were well done (even though they were more of a side aspect to the story). I am looking forward to what else the author writes. 4 out of 5 stars.

A Scottish knight comes to claim his ramshackle inheritance, which includes a reluctant bride set against marrying her enemy.

Claire Beaumont is the orphaned ward of Whitfield, promised in marriage to whomever claims Whitfield as their inheritance, which no one has wanted to claim because of its lack of upkeep and neglect. Claire loves her home, and the people that have become her family. She is clever and resourceful, stubborn, yet compassionate, treating those around her with respect and dignity.

Ian McGowan, has worked hard to make a way for himself apart from his family, and is thrilled to be able to put down roots in a place to call his own. I admired his willingness to listen to Claire's ideas about how to run Whitfield, as well as how he worked alongside his tenants to make the keep a success.

An engaging romance with captivating characters, and a compelling romance. I loved getting to know the tenants of Whitfield, as they all come together to work for the chance at a brighter and more secure future. Ian has a great friend in Phillip, who gives him advice on everything from running the keep to how to woo his intended. All in all a completely enjoyable read, with well developed characters throughout, excellent storytelling, character interaction, and relationship building, with themes of faith and friendship. Highly recommend!

Dialogue can make or break it for this reader, and Ms. Ketchersid has totally “made it” with the characters in her story! Sufficient that I could ‘hear’ the heavy Scottish brogue, but not so overbearing that I felt like I was reading another language!
From the beginning—that scene with the garderobe chute!! OY!—and through to the last pages, something was always pressing against the main characters. I appreciated Claire’s guarded and defensive, nay offensive, and icy reception to “the Scots.”
Ian was none too happy with the condition required to claim the castle as his own. Yet to become a landowner would prove [SPOILER.] He fights valiantly, not only to restore Whitfield, but for the heart of his bride.
Ms. Ketchersid woos the reader into the story, then unfolds one twist after another, building the tension—and the romance—to the last page!

Ian McGowan is the youngest brother in his family. His older siblings have passed on the chance for the inheritance of Whitfield Castle. It’s in need of great repair, but he is excited about claiming this inheritance. The only catch is that the inheritance comes with a bride.

The young lady who is living in and managing the castle will be his bride. When he arrives with his faithful friend to enter the castle he is unable to get in. Claire refuses him at the castle gate, because she hates all Scots. Scottish men killed the feisty red-haired maiden’s parents and left her for dead.

So Ian and Phillip break into the castle wall through a disgusting shoot. Even after they get into the castle, Claire fights with all her might (and her loyal castle staff). But, Ian will not surrender and eventually makes a type of peace with her.

The inheritance has been arranged by the king, so over time Claire realizes that she has no choice but to marry him. She gradually sees that Ian is a very honorable man. He immediately begins restoring the castle and spending money to make the castle into a profitable estate. He treats Claire as a very special prize to be won. He is gracious, kind, and gentle. He begins to gain her trust and love.

But, he won’t have an easy time with any of this. Ian and Claire are later in danger and there are surprises on every page. It seems that everything is against them. What will happen? Will they actually get married and will Ian claim the inheritance?

Christian faith is included in the book and God’s sovereignty is beautifully displayed. There is so much great action and adventure in the book. I love the humor and romance throughout.

I loved the story and recommend the book to readers in their older teens and adults. It’s a good living book for those (like me) who love English history. The medieval time of knights and fair ladies comes alive within the pages of His To Keep.

You won’t forget the hero’s entrance into the castle to claim his bride!

It’s good to read a story with such an honorable hero! Scotsman Ian McGowan has arrived at Whitfield Castle where he intends to marry Claire Beaumont in order to secure the property the King of England promised him. Claire is a strong, kind woman doing her best for the people in her care, but she has a deep hatred for warriors from Scotland....like the man who intends to take possession of her home.

As Ian and Claire struggle to overcome their past resentments, it’s interesting to read about the growing attraction between the two. I enjoyed learning about the details of life in a castle during this time period. With vibrant characters, author Sherrinda Ketchersid offers readers an emotional tale, transporting us to historical England. A sweet romance story about a love to keep!

Favorite quote: All she had to do was let go of her hate and bitterness, and trust God to heal her heart.

Take a trip to medieval England with Ian and Claire as they battle each other and outside forces for the ultimate prize: a home! I really enjoyed this story in which Ian and Claire clash head on in a struggle of strong wills, minds and hearts. The king's edict upends both their loves in ways they never imagined. I love how feisty and hardworking Claire is, how she hides her hurts behind a mask of strength. Ian's physical description is enough to make me swoon but add to that his patience as he attempts to woo his bride and I'm a gonner!

What a delightful romance set in medieval England. Claire Beaumont was a hotheaded young woman and I loved her tenacious spirit. Her life is upended when a Scottish man, Ian McGowan, shows up at the gates of Whitfield claiming he has inherited the small castle on English soil. But there’s a catch. According to the formal papers signed by the king of Scotland.....there is also to be a wedding. So begins the captivating journey from enemies to lovers and all the growth and mishaps in between. You’ll be rooting for this unlikely pair from the very beginning. And can I just mention.....I won’t be forgetting Ian’s unconventional grand entrance into Whitfield castle. Slippery situation it was.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed reading His to Keep. It was beautiful, poignant, captivating, and provided just the right amount of conflict. There were also little snippets of humor which added another layer of charm. I’m specifically referring to Phillip, Ian’s friend and Conrad in arms. He was like one of those people that you enjoy having around because they automatically make everything better with their witty personality. Here’s hoping we see Phillip get his own book in the future.

This book has it all - adventure, suspense, great characters and swoony romance! Ian is an honorable man trying to save the estate he had inherited that had fallen in to disrepair, but part of his inheritance included a directive from the king that he needed to marry Claire Beaumont, the orphaned ward tied to the estate. Their love story was captivating! Great character growth and I loved the great side characters like Philip and Fiona. There were also some beautiful faith themed messages. 4.5* for this wonderful story! I am excited to read the other books by this author.

His to Keep by Sherrinda Ketchersid is the second medieval romance I’ve read by the author. I was excited to get to know Ian McGowan better after meeting him in her first novel, Lord of Her Heart. In this novel, Ian is hoping to claim Whitfield and the surrounding estate as his family inheritance--an inheritance passed over by his father and brothers. The catch is he must also wed the fiery lass who resides there--a woman bent against all Scots.
I enjoyed this story from the very beginning. The determination of Ian to claim what is rightfully his and make something of himself is met head-on by the passionate response of Claire and her dislike for all things Scottish. It made me smile to watch Ian fight Claire’s stormy demeanor with chivalry and kindness, and I could understand how a lady could soften to such a man.
I loved the slow blooming romance in this story but also I loved the healthy respect they showed each other. Add in some unwanted visiting relatives and a jealous Lord as a neighbor, and the story quickly becomes fraught with danger and tension.
I was so glad to have the opportunity to read this novel. Any fan of medieval fiction/sweet historical fiction would enjoy the adventure, romance, and red-headed sass in this story.
I was given a copy of this book by the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are my own.

A swoon-worthy story of love, trust, and the fight to protect what's yours.

A Scot inherits Whitfield Castle and everything in it. The maiden who lives there has sworn all Scots are her enemy, for killing her parents. From the beginning, the swoon-worthy hero Ian tries to lay claim and Claire fights him every step of the way. From the banter to Ian trying to lay claim to what is his to Claire doing her best to resist his charm, His to Keep will keep you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. If you love Medieval romance with a feisty heroine and a steadfast hero, you will love this story by Sherrinda.

I haven’t read many Medieval romances, but I was pulled into this one. The characters are great. I couldn’t wait to see how Ian was going to react to Claire’s actions. I look forward to reading more stories by Sherrinda!

Great read

Sweet medieval romance with several twists and turns. A feisty heroine, resentful of Scots, and protective of her people is being forced to wed by the King. Our strong, honorable hero is determined to rebuild the crumbling castle and unproductive land granted him by the king regardless of the opposition from the beautiful, sharp tongued heroine. Can he win her over by wooing her with gentleness and kindness, including her in making decisions on improvements for the land, castle, and people? Can he do so while fighting his distrustful neighbor and spiteful brother who want to see him fail? Will/can love win out?

Just found this author. Love that she writes medieval romance with passion and not gratuitous sex. Characters are not stiff and "pinched". They show anger, fear, passion and love just like God's people should. Most of all, I appreciate that she gives God His place in her stories. As an author myself, I appreciate the proper editing as well. Will be looking up her other works and signing up for her newsletter. Good job Mrs. Ketchersid.

I enjoy clean Scottish romance

This book fit that bill, though it would have been nice to be able to read about Niall's final battle with Ian instead of an after it happened. But all in all a good story. I just would wish the books were numbered as I read Fiona story before this one. It's not a huge deal they can stand alone but it's an OCD thing with me. I'm a definite fan of her books!

A good story to stay with and pursue to it's end.

I thought the story was slow and not interesting in the beginning. I almost put it aside. But, THEN, the plot began to develop and then I couldn't put it down. Hang in there with Ian and Claire and a fine mix of side characters; good and evil. It's worth the ride.

Wow

I love a spirited lass and Claire is certainly that! And sweet Ian is a noble person. I agree with another reviewer that the first chapter is one of the best beginnings in a book that I have ever read. Awesome book and well written. There are no gory details, no sex. I love the banter between characters and that it is a clean romance. But there are some perilous events that let our strong and spirited heroine shine.

New to me author 😊

What a wonderful story! Plenty of action, tension, and don’t forget romance! Claire was a fireball and poor Ian was a bit clueless as to how to move forward in winning her hand. But even through many trials and tribulations, they grew in their love.

Beautiful epilogue 💞
