A party of jays, a parade of elephants, a stench of skunks, and so many more make up this delightfully funny and informative picture book about animal group names!
Packed with vibrant art, young readers will not only learn what we call certain groups of animals, but it will tickle them with literal images. That party of jays? Those birds have party hats and streamers galore!
A Troop of Kangaroos is early nonfiction that will entertain and teach.
Love the humorous illustrations in this nonfiction book for preschoolers. Kids will love them, too! Such a fun way to learn about "group names" of animals. And she adds an underlying story of coming together & community. i.e. "When we huddle together, we're a float of crocodiles. When we gather, we become a family of sardines. And when we all come together with love, we are a community." I can see kids coming back to this book again & again! Kudos to Mundorff!
I received an electronic ARC from MacMillan Children's Publishing Group. Mundorff shares a wide variety of group names for animals. The illustrations bring each name to life as readers turn the page following the informative text. Each of those page spreads are highly detailed and colorful to add some fun to this topic.
I had loved reading An Exhaltation of Larks at my grandparents' house growing up, and was so excited to see this little-kid-friendly picture book. It has a much smaller selection of collective nouns for groups of animals, accompanied by super fun, adorable illustrations. I can't wait to share it with my 3-year-old!
I like the idea of introducing young kids to the concept of collective nouns - they can be so much fun. Good, clever illustrations. The book could be improved by explaining that many animals have two or more accepted collective nouns. Without knowing that, I can already hear the arguments.
Fun collection of collective animal names -- illustrations are a highlight. Love the "chattering of chickens" being gently shushed by the mama hen reading a book to them at the library, the stench of skunks changing in the locker room, and the troop of kangaroos engaged in camping, rowing, archery, fishing, much like a scout troop.
Simple text telling the names of different animal groups with clever and detailed illustrations with the animals depicting the word. E.g. a business of ferrets is followed by a picture of ferrets in a business office setting. Very cute!
My favorite animal collective noun book, its fresh illustrations show the animals in the wild ... and then personified in a fun way to make the collective noun memorable and relatable to a young audience. Great combo.
This book is informative and fun. Learning the names for groups of animals is an amusing pastime but to see them humorously illustrated add a cherry on the cake.
