Coffin Blossoms. A reminder that hope does spring eternal. In death itself there is often beauty, life, and on rare occasions even humor. The twenty-four stories in this anthology straddle the line between humor and horror in unique ways. Some wearing a wry smile. Others with tongue firmly in cheek. Ghosts, demons, vampires, myths, monsters, and murderers turned on their heads and shaken ‘til dizzy, then presented for you here, in the pages of Coffin Blossoms…
I wanted to like this. There are a handful of writers in the Table of Contents that I've seen in other anthologies and I liked their work in those but not this one or, I liked their story in another book but it was placed in a weird spot in this anthology that made it read awkwardly. I loved Robert Ottone's stories in two other anthologies and thought his story was kind of lost in the shuffle here. I think it's the parameters of the collection. When I read a dark comedy horror anthology, I expect consistency in humor and the editors didn't present their authors' work with any sort of flow. It's like they took all of the stories, threw them in a bag and dumped the bag on the floor to decide how to order them. This is a small press so maybe they will improve with their next release.
