Volume 5 features two of the coolest spirits we have seen, unfortunately I found it really hard to follow what was supposed to be happening on the page. Both the flow of the action and what actions were being taken felt like a mystery to me for a lot of the pages. Still a cool story, but the weakest of the volumes so far.
Oh my word, is this getting gruesome! So dark, so gross, and so creepy. This one was definitely heavy on the gore front. I was a bit grossed out by it, and some parts were so dark, but I must give it 5 stars. Because it's so well done, a very good story, and such good artwork!
I think his volume is the best in the series so far because the team is finally getting better at being a team. They have their hiccups but still are able to bounce back pretty quickly.
So we got two new characters who are... cultivating the spirit we call Kubo (they call it the Unborn Darkness Before The Dawn) and also some ominous foreshadowing before we go back to our ghost hunt.
First, Kei, Yayoi, and Eiko collect one of Yayoi's graduates and we see just how dangerous these things can be even if the ghost itself isn't evil. (Also, this one is really cool. Really, really cool.) Then we're off to the haunted Old F Tunnel to hunt down the ghost of an axe murderer. Should be fun.
I’m actually utterly shocked with how this series seems to just get progressively darker and darker. It’s so far on par with Mieruko Chan and its insanely detailed entities, and I’m hoping with how consistently well the story is done it reaches into even darker lore. I had thought given it was from SJ, that it was gonna be plot armory and just a blah plot but by the 5th volume I’m absolutely still in love with it!
While reading, not scary. After finishing a volume and not reading, jumping at shadows because you think that there are potential spirits around you trying to gouge your eyes out at any given moment! Why did I start this stupid series?
The creepiness of this volume was on point. The Old F Tunnel spirit was scary, and that fight between him and the Hellbound Sergeant hit in the best way. I'm glad the team is finally starting to work together too.
