A broken past. A jeopardized future. And a song of hope holding the answers to both.

Not now. Anytime but now. With her junior year of college hanging in the balance, the last thing Emma Matthews needs is a blue-eyed distraction capable of undoing her plans with a single guitar strum. She has an unfulfilled promise to keep, family depending on her—reasons she can’t afford to unearth dreams better left buried.

But when the reflection she sees in musician Riley Preston’s eyes borders dangerously close to the one she’s spent the last five years searching for, Emma discovers her walls can’t guard her heart from the hope he awakens.

Terrified of what she’s experiencing, and even more afraid of what she might lose, Emma grapples for the faith to hold on to one dream without abandoning the promise of another.

This series follows the same characters and needs to be read in order:

I stopped at 36%
I was interested at first. But I quickly grew tired of the constant physical or something attraction the MC had with one guy and the constant talk of her not letting herself become interested, but she was interested and she should say no, but she can't say no. Ugh!
And then I realized that it was a love triangle! Another ugh! Guy 1 "loses his heart" to girl. Girl "loses her heart" to Guy 2, Guy 2 doesn't think he can give Girl all the love she deserves . . . Not my kind of book.
Not sure if this is supposed to be a Christian book or not but what I read didn't really sound like a Christian book even though it might be "clean" (no sex, or swearing, but there are kisses) because there are no mentions of praying about things or reading the Bible, or anything like that.

A sweet story with an inspirational message, but not really suited to my tastes. I'm coming to realize more and more that I just don't enjoy a lot of the popular romance tropes. This did have some very cute moments, though, and I liked the focus on music. If you're a fan of inspirational romance, you might want to give this book a try!

I felt so many emotions, including being annoyed with the characters to feeling their joy, sorrow, hopes, and dreams. Great emotion!

Emma is dealing with a lot and a relationship is the last thing she needs, but she can't help being interested in Riley, a musician, while A.J. shows interest in her. There's a big love triangle in this one, which is an aspect of a book that I don't mind at all.

I love that Emma has a great relationship with her brother and with her roommate. She is a kind soul and tries really hard to make everyone around her comfortable and happy, but it doesn't always work out right when others get the wrong idea about a situation. Emma has trouble getting a backbone when she really needs one--it's almost like she's so afraid of offending and hurting others that she takes the easy way out by ignoring the situation until it's too late. That flaw makes her seem very real.

I liked getting to know all of the different characters, but felt they were almost introduced a little too fast and until I got into the story a little bit, I had a hard time remembering which was which. A few things seemed a little sudden. Emma is madly in love and has a new best friend after only a few short weeks. Even though she's in love, she can't quite commit and is very indecisive for much too long. I felt for the guys and wished she would've made up her mind. Once again, this flaw makes her real (I can be indecisive too).

I thought that music would have played a bigger role in the storyline than it did, so I was a tad disappointed, but maybe future installments will showcase that more. That said, there were so many positive messages sprinkled throughout and I really appreciated the clean content in the New Adult genre.

Content: kissing (clean); mild violence (a fight); no language that I recall. Clean.

* ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR FOR AN HONEST REVIEW *

First off, I should say that this is my first New Adult Contemporary book that's been labeled as Inspirational. I liked it enough, but there were a few things I just didn't get. But, maybe some of these things are common in books labeled as Inspirational, and it's me and not the book.

So, this book revolves around Emma, who is in college. Right from the start, it felt a bit more like high school than college for me though. First off, when I was in college, there were no counselors whose job was to keep students on track. But, maybe that's just me. Big state school vs a smaller school? Not sure. But, if I got an internship or kept a scholarship, that was my responsibility; there was no one to harp at me about that type of stuff.

The other thing is I found some of the relationships a little confusing. Do college kids get engaged frequently? None of my friends ever did while in college, but it wasn't treated as unusual in this book, that college aged kids would even be considering it. And, the topic of sex isn't even broached between potential couples in this book. I have no issue with people waiting to have sex until marriage, but that type of thing would be discussed. So, these little aspects of the book all seemed kinda strange to me.

The writing was good, and it kept me interested in the story, but it is never a good sign when I'm rooting for a different love interest, lol.

In the end, perhaps I'm just not the intended audience.

A wonderful, inspirational novel!

The "new adult" genre has been steadily rising in popularity in recent years, and this is one of the best I've read yet. Eyes Unveiled follows twenty-one year old Emma in her journey to discover herself and make life choices.

A specific reason I enjoyed this book is because I saw myself in Emma. It wasn't too long ago that I found myself in similar shoes. What am I supposed to do with my life? What does living life to the fullest really look like? It didn't take much effort to relate to Emma at all and I think all of us at one point or another has experienced this very wondering and uncertainty. God didn't create the future to be scary but sometimes it still is.

I thought the author did a beautiful job handing this, writing a realistic emotional journey. The best part though, is the conclusion and resolution Emma finds. I easily encourage any young woman wondering about her future to read this novel. It will encourage you that you're not alone and hopefully will motivate you. Be patient with yourself and God. He knows the plans He has for you, and they are good. :)

I received a kindle copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review of my opinions, which I have done. Thanks!

A beautiful coming-of-age story

This is a really beautiful story built upon the dreams, hopes, fears and zest for life that lives within the heart of young adults like no one else! And it's exposed and expressed brilliantly by this author with a sensitivity, vulnerability and reality that is respectful, refreshing and truly touching. It reminded me of my own dreams, hopes, heartaches and fears at the same stage of my own life...it's just THAT good!!! This story is definitely a character driven drama but with such exquisitely created characters it's still easy to get lost in the storyline. This is a true romance novel without salacious sex scenes that aren't needed to spice up the story for attention or detract attention from what might be missing in a lesser work of art. It's a really fabulous story for YA readers but just as enjoyable and refreshing for those who are well beyond that description.

“You’re meant to live with your eyes wide open . . . If you always keep them closed, you’ll miss the life right in front of you waiting to be lived.”
OH, WOW! I really love this quote! So often we miss the thing right in front of us because we let fear or doubt take control.
This is a beautiful story with moments in the main character’s life where she learns to let go and trust her feelings as well as what her purpose is in life. Not letting go of her dreams, because dreams can come true. Sometimes we just need to readjust them or look at them differently.
This story brings to light some real heart-tugging issues of self-worth and making the right choices.
Crystal Walton truly has a way of bringing emotions and feelings into her writing. You'll ache, laugh, cry, smile, snort, and do happy dances all while enjoying a fantastic story!
I’ve always loved reading books that draw out emotions and feelings and give me a life lesson to walk away with. This book does that, and I highly recommend you pick it up. Now I’m ready to read the next book to continue to see what will happen with these characters.
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Eyes Unveiled evokes all of the confusion of burgeoning adulthood - discovering who I am, what I want to do, and my place in the world. For business major Emma Matthews, she must come to terms with realizing her own dreams and the dreams her late father had for her. She'd successfully walled her heart and nudged those considerations aside until coming face to face with the bracing blue eyes of musician Riley Preston, who also has to reconcile his past before he can make himself vulnerable - both with his music and with Emma.

In addition to Emma's struggles with an internship necessary to keep her college scholarship and a frustrating on-again/off-again friendship/romance with Riley, she must also learn to accept the love and advice of her friends, including A.J., who's hoping for a lot more than friendship from her.

Filled with the angst of coming of age, Eyes Unveiled is a story of self-discovery and sweet romance.

I was given a review copy of this book, and I feel beyond privileged to have been able to read it before "the general public" was given the opportunity.

While reading the book, I felt really connected to the characters, especially Emma. I found it easy to get lost in Emma's world. I think that most women would agree with me in saying that we all struggle with some of the insecurities that Emma does in the book, and as I was reading them, I really could feel what Emma was feeling. I felt many of those same feelings when I was younger and in love. While I may not struggle with Emma's love issues now, I feel like I still could connect to Emma's struggle to figure out her path in life. I'm still trying to figure out what the Lord has in store for my life even in my thirties, so I definitely could relate to Emma's struggle to find who she is.

I also loved the fact that there were two good guys that Emma was being sought after by. It gave it almost a kind of a "Sweet Home Alabama" feel to it. I am positive that "Eyes Unveiled" would be a hit in the box office (much like Sweet Home Alabama or even any Nicholas Sparks books/movies)and easily be the romantic-comedy of the year.

"Eyes Unveiled" really tugs at your heartstrings in parts but also makes you laugh at the sarcasm that rolls out of some of the characters mouths. It's a loveable and enjoyable novel that I think most women would absolutely fall in love with because of it's clean-humor (something I think is rare these days), romance, and gripping plot.

It was definitely a worthwhile read, and I can't wait to read the sequels.

While I love reading Young Adult fiction and romance, I haven't read much New Adult fiction. This is because much of what I've seen is overly focused on sexuality, and I want to read about love, not sex. So when Crystal Walton contacted me about reviewing her clean New Adult romance, I was intrigued.

While love at first sight/instant attraction stories aren't my favorite, Walton did an excellent job of conveying the pull between Emma and Riley. I definitely felt like I was experiencing everything along with Emma, and I could buy into her feelings. (Though I think I preferred A.J., the rival for Emma's affections, to Riley. Not sure that was supposed to happen ...) While I thought Emma and Riley's relationship progressed too quickly, that's the 33-year-old me talking. The 21-year-old me would have found everything to be wonderfully romantic ... and that's what makes Eyes Unveiled a great New Adult romance. The romance and passion are there—along with a healthy dose of uncertainty that often accompanies the college years—but there's no sex or foul language.

The faith element in Eyes Unveiled is very light—so light that, had it not been called an inspirational romance in the description, I would have thought it was just a clean romance. I think it will appeal to both girls who are Christians and girls who aren't. It is perfect for those who want to read New Adult romance without the sexual content common to the genre. 3-1/2 stars.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a digital copy of this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

If you are looking for a book that is emotionally driven, this is your book. I went through a whole array of emotions while reading this book. This is a story about self-discovery, friendships and love.

I loved the immediate interest and attraction Emma had when she saw and heard Riley sing. He spoke to her soul and I loved that. Riley and Emma share a connection through music but they develop a friendship that expands beyond just music.

Emma was an easy character to relate to. She seemed very human although maybe just a titch naive. She doesn't ever expect the worst of people. Emma has good friends and a good relationship with her brother. I liked that support system for Emma. It was good to see Emma grow and strengthen throughout the book. Her struggles made her stronger.

There is a huge love triangle in this book and love triangles aren't my favorite, but I know they do happen in life and I can accept that. The resolution of the triangle in this book seemed a bit unrealistic to me though.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It was clean (no swearing or sexual content) and I'm always grateful for that. I hear the next book in the series is coming out in July so I'll be looking forward to that.

Eyes Unveiled was one of the best books I have ever read. I was given a copy of this book in return for my honest feedback. The book captivates you to the point that you do not want to put it down. It speaks to women of all ages and is a clean romance novel that is relatable to the plight of the everyday woman. This author weaves the story together so beautifully that I can’t wait to read her next one. This book is at the top of my Goodreads. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

I don't quite understand how the title matches the story, which might be why I took so long to read this book, but I thought this story was interesting, although a little predictable, even in the parts where I could tell it wasn't supposed to be predictable. The characters are pretty silly for adults. They go out in what is forecast to be a terrible storm for an adventure and are lucky no one dies. Not my favorite story, but it was still fun to read.

Let me just start by saying this book was filled with so many raw emotions that I FELT as I was reading! It wasn’t characters I was reading about, it was me in those situations within the pages. Fear, grief, happiness, inadequacy, purpose and love were all woven within the story and it was so real that it made me cry, my heart ache, and my heart feel full of love. THAT is when you know the book is absolutely amazing!

Emma is trying to find her purpose in life. She is in college and is being pushed to be successful and declare her path in life. The problem is that she has no idea what she wants that path to be. After meeting Riley, a musician and fellow college student, she feels a deep connection with him through his music. They both have had difficult pasts that have clouded their eyes with disbelief in their own abilities. The abilities that they see clearly in the other one’s eyes. They go through a journey of building that confidence and of placing trust in God to open the doors He has planned for them. Faith over fear is the underlying message throughout this book which is one that we all need to hear regardless of our age!

I don’t normally read this genre of books, but I knew I loved many other books by Crystal Walton, and this one did not disappoint! I stayed up late reading it because I simply could not put it down! It doesn’t matter if you are a young adult or someone who has been out of college for decades. The message within these pages is one for all ages! I also loved that it was a clean book without any racy scenes. Make sure to put this book at the top of your TBR list!

"It's not as much about mastering technique as it is risking the cost of opening your heart to the song you're meant to share."

The Unveiled series follows Emma, a business major trying to figure out her passion and purpose, and Riley, a passionate and gifted musician who is unsure of himself and broken by his past. This first book in the series has them meeting in college where Riley is a senior and Emma is a junior. Attraction is instant and their sweet and deep friendship that blossoms is heart-warming and tender. Emma has a group of close friends who brings Riley into the fold and there is plenty of great fun found among college friends but there is also a love triangle that develops within the group which I believe will continue through the three book series. Emma is easy to like; she's compassionate, loving, loyal, and sweet. When she discovers her passion for helping underprivileged children, she comes alive. The story is told from first person perspective of Emma (except for the prologue) which lets us in to her thoughts and emotions but leaves me wondering about what Riley is going through. The writing is easy to follow, the plot moves at a good pace, the characters are believable and lovable, and the emotions along with the fragile hope they cling to are raw and real. I can't wait for the second and third books to see where Emma and Riley go in their journey.

I received a copy of the book from the author and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

An emotional book, one that made me grateful that I will never have to live those early young adult years ever again. The characters' push-pull relationship brought back so many memories of out of control emotions as well as the need for friendships and adventure. Emma and Riley have more in common than they at first thought, but whilst Emma was loved and encouraged, Riley knew disappointment and pain, reminding parents everywhere that "death and life are in the power of the tongue". Apart from their instant attraction, Emma was also able to feel Riley's music as it spoke to her soul and although Riley found in her a kindred spirit, his fear of relationships made it difficult to give her what they both needed. With the added complication of another contender for Emma's affections, Riley's stepped back fearing that he would destroy the most precious thing in his life. It took courage and understanding for Emma to break through that barrier. Although I purchased this book some time ago, I have read it again with new eyes and this is my honest and voluntary review

Great imagery, few editing mistakes

I really enjoyed this story. My favorite part was how descriptive the author was in her imagery. The language and phrases used were very poetic. It might be too “flowery” for some, but I really enjoyed it. There were a few editing mistakes, and I kept tripping over the best-friend’s name “Jaycee.” It must have been used one hundred times, and every time I had to read it multiple times. My brain wanted to say Jace, but then I would remind myself that it’s supposed to sound like Casey or Lacey. I couldn’t get the name to stick, and it ruined the flow of the story for me every time. I wish a different name had been used, but I suppose that’s just personal preference.
I liked the book enough that I bought the rest of the series.

Finding yourself to find love

Not sure what to say because I felt conflicted. First I thought Reiley and Emma were mfeo. Why couldn't Reiley just talk about his issues instead of always walking away? He acted like there was some great secret to why he couldn't be with Emma, but it wasn't that big of a deal in the end if he would have just communicated better. Made me think he didn't really love her and it got me thinking that all I've ever known about love and compatibility was wrong. The back and forth became frustrating and annoying. AJ stepped in and felt better for her to me. Then that blew up. IDK. I think AJ deserves his own story.
I could identify with Emma's feelings of self doubt. Really liked her relationships with family and friends. Poetic. Love the cover.

Emma's story is truly amazing. The characters in this book are all very special people who would do anything to help each other. The way Emma and Riley help each other is truly remarkable. This book deserves a higher rating than a five star review. You won't be able to stop reading this book.

I just couldn't get into the story. I felt like I was drowning in pretty words but having no idea what they actually meant. Because of that, I didn't learn or like the characters, and just couldn't motivate myself to finish.

Clean weekend read.

For my clean readers: one swear word. The worst part is during an internship when her boss assaults her. Also inlcudes some minor violence and a fair amount of romance, no bedroom scenes.

A captivating story about a college student who is very insecure as she hope's to live up to all her dad's expectations for her. Since he has passed away she has lost faith in her abilities. A very touching love story evolves as she is drawn to a young musician she meets at a campus hangout.

Emma and her friends are typical college students trying to find their way in the world. Friendships, dreams, misunderstandings, love and hurt all weave together to create a tale representative of many college experiences.

Eyes Unveiled is told in first person. As Emma relates her story, the reader is limited (rightly so) to the information and understanding that Emma has of the situations. Thus when Emma is confused, so is the reader. I found this a bit frustrating through the middle portion of the book, as I wanted to understand just a bit more than what was given, even if Emma hadn’t understood. However, keeping within that limited perspective may help some readers truly feel Emma’s confusion and better relate to her emotions.

Because the book is listed as “Christian” fiction, I was looking for something specifically Christian. While the story is clean (no profanity or bedroom scenes, etc.), there was no Christian influence in the story other than a desperate “God, help me” prayer which was answered with silence. The characters did not mention faith in God in any way, but rather focused on trusting themselves and who they were, looking for the strength within them. While I am not looking for quoted Bible passages or pulpit messages, I did want to see the Lord at work in the characters’ lives in some way, and I was disappointed that this aspect was missing.

As a clean “new adult” novel, Eyes Unveiled is a well-written story with realistically frustrating emotions and events.
