The causes and consequences of the 1962 crisis as well as a day-by-day narrative of the confrontation, based on up-to-date scholarship and newly released documents. American Ways Series.
Concise, interesting narrative of the Cuban missile crisis. Focuses on the emotions of the leaders involved to give a very good background to the historical crisis.
I read this for a graduate course on America and the Cold War. An excellent account of the lead-up to the Cuban Missile Crisis and the two weeks of the crisis itself.
I had to read this book for a book review for school. First off let me start by saying that I know next to nothing about the Cold War and the events that occurred during that time, the Korean and Vietnam Wars included. However, this book helped me to understand that there were tense times in during the Cold War. The fact that this event happened over a few days shows that anything can happen. Mark White helps his readers to understand what led up to the Cuban Missile Crisis and breaks the days down day by day. This was helpful because an event such as this is fast paced. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to know more about how the crisis came about with Cuba and how the various governments interacted during this stressful time.
