Missing jewels, a witch's dagger and murder...
Just a regular day at Cardinal Woolsey's Knitting and Yarn shop in Oxford.

When glamorous vampire Sylvia discovers a movie company is remaking one of her most famous silent films, she's determined to get some creative input and decides to make knitting shop owner Lucy the beneficiary of her estate. Lucy will front for Sylvia in dealing with the movie executives who want to recreate the priceless Cartier jewels made specially for the original movie and still owned by Sylvia.

Meanwhile, Lucy's moving along in her witch's training. It's time to choose her own athame, a dagger that she'll use for spells.

With all that going on she's barely got time to run a knitting shop, never mind solve another murder.

This is book 11 in the Vampire Knitting Club. From a USA Today bestselling author, these stories are cozy, clean, with quirky characters, a too-smart cat, and lots of magic and mayhem. Each can be read alone.

Wow. What an interestingly deep look at Sylvia. I have to say, I don't really like her at all anymore. She forces Lucy into doing something that she doesn't want to do. Then blames her and treats her horribly for something that was not her fault. It also left me pretty annoyed with the other vampires too. I felt they could have done more to defend Lucy to Sylvia.

How I choose my rating:
1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much.
2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end.
3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one.
4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one.
5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.

Rafe I will marry you, seriously :)) I understand all of Lucy's problems with being married to a vampire, but dude you could totally be turned and live forever with him! Besides loosing the ability to eat, I would have no reservations, none!

Having gotten that of my chest, lets talk about the book. This one is different from all the rest, because Lucy was in the middle of the investigation not just because she wanted to be... Also, this book really showcases how even though she spends a lot of time with the vampires, she isn't considered family and she doesn't consider them family either. I really disliked how Sylvia acted during this book, even if it's totally on brand for her, she was a complete and total asshole.

All in all I really enjoyed reading this installment in the Vampire Knitting Club and I can't wait to see where Nancy will take us.

I get not wanting to have cozy mysteries all about sex, but if you are contemplating marrying someone, esp a vampire, some sort of affection or other indications of a relationship would be nice.

Sigh, how many ways can I say Lucy is an idiot? First she meets a guy in a dark hallway wearing millions in jewels, away from all security THEN, knowing her life is in danger, she trails a guy she thinks is a murderer, without backup in sight, she just HAS to confront him and goes into his apartment for a spot of tea ALONE!!! ehh is she still alive??

Sylvia was a complete turnoff in this book
Lucy continues to baffle me, the author has made zero effort to grow her character or cure her stupidity over 11 books.
The mystery itself would have been better if not for those two.

Running her knitting shop as well as trying to figure out how to be a witch keeps Lucy very busy, but when you have an extremely angry vampire on your case life takes a turn for the treacherous and sends Lucy scurrying to solve the mysterious events that have led the vampire to epic anger levels! This series baffles me as I can't figure out how it just keeps getting better and better, yet it does! The characters are so well fleshed out that they seem like real people, yes even the vampires! The interpersonal relationships of the characters alone are enough to draw you in, but the mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat and turning pages until the wee hours of the morning! I can't wait to read what happens in the next book in the series!

I really need someone to explain to me how Lucy is still among the living? Honestly, by all rights she should have died like 11 times by now if not more. Is every main character in a cozy mystery dumber than a turnip? So far all of the ones I have read except for 1 or 2 this is the case. And I swear Lucy makes dumber and dumber decisions as the books go on. Usually by book 11 a character shows growth. This is not the case with home girl here. It really is ridiculous. Let's take for example an incident where Lucy agrees to go talk to a man she doesn't know. He tells her to go down a dark hallway, past the bathroom, and there was a room past the bathroom and that's where she should meet him. What dumbass agrees to this? She does this and wonders why someone hits her over the head and when she wakes up the diamonds she was wearing are missing. Well duh! Then we have to read about how dumb she thinks she is throughout the book. We get it, we don't need to be beat over the head with the same information over and over again.

We also have the incident where Sylvia bullies Lucy into wearing her very expensive said jewels to a gala. Despite Lucy being a dipshit, Sylvia is a bully when the jewels are stolen. She is downright mean to Lucy and very threatening, and no one calls her on it. I would have set Sylvia on fire. I don't get some of these characters, I don't get their decisions, and I don't know why I keep reading these.

Plot
Bea: It was interesting. We see the past and its effect on the present. Lucy pretended to be the descendant of one of Sylvia's previous incarnations since Sylvia can't very well step up and claim the glory being heaped on the person she was 100 years ago. And for once, it made sense for Lucy to be involved in the investigation since she was the victim; well, one of the victims. I did think Lucy was a little too trusting where one other character was concerned but her detective skills are improving, and she had no trouble asking for help.

AVR: I have to admit that I'm not as enamoured of this plot as I normally would be with this series. The plot itself is ok, but Sylvia's actions ruined it for me. Well, that and Lucy not having a backbone. Then Rafe allowing Sylvia's behavior at all was a turn off, but this should all be under "Characters." LOL Anyway, I did enjoy seeing how the vampires deal with living such a long time and how it can affect them. Especially someone who was as famous as Sylvia was.

Characters
Bea: I liked Sylvia a whole lot more before this story. I really don't like her now. I tried to be empathetic to the trials of being a vampire. A long life has its disadvantages and living in secret must surely be tiring, but Sylvia's arrogance, high-handedness, manipulative actions, and lack of compassion were too much for me.

That said, it was interesting to see how the vampires split when Sylvia and Lucy fell out. Some stood up for Lucy and took her side, others were on Sylvia's and some tried for neutral. Rafe of course was solidly on Lucy's side. :)

AVR: Omg, yes! She's been an ok character for me up until now. Kinda snobbish, but since she takes care of Lucy's grandma, I let her behavior slide. But in this one? Way over the top, in my opinion. Lucy let her walk all over her and Rafe really didn't do anything about it. Bah!

Bea: Yes, I was surprised that Rafe didn't do more to protect Lucy. It was odd. He did stand by her and support her I expected him to be more active in expressing his displeasure. (Yes! What was up with that?! ~ AVR)

World building
Bea: There wasn't a lot of world building but we did get to see how the vampires, or some, deal with their long lives and the necessity of multiple identities. I enjoyed that quite a bit.

AVR: I agree that not much is added to the world here. I will say I did enjoy Lucy picking her athame. Seeing a bit more of the witchy world, even such a small part, makes me happy.

Bea: I confess, I had visions of Harry Potter in the first movie choosing his athame as Lucy was choosing hers. I did like seeing that part of the witch world in this series. (And I expected the old guy to say: "Curious!" Now I can't unsee that! LOL ~ AVR)

Romance
Bea: The romance is still moving slower than I'd like. I understand Lucy's concerns about a long-term relationship with a vampire, and said vampire Rafe can be bossy, but really, he's pretty nearly perfect. I just want Lucy to make a decision. Whatever the decision, the consequences would effect to much - the store, Lucy's investigations, her witch world, and of course, her interactions with the vampires since they live under her store and have a private knitting club there.

AVR: I agree that the romance is moving so slow. I mean, it's crawling at a snail's pace. It's been a while now and I think Lucy needs to make a decision. It's not like she has to turn vampire in the immediate future, assuming she wants to stay with Rafe for eternity, but either give him a firm answer or go in a different direction. The waffling is starting to annoy me. Not super annoyed yet, but if this keeps up then soon. (Agreed! ~ Bea)

Bea's fave quote
"You trust me with your car?"
"I trust you with my life, my heart, everything I have to give." - I know, it's corny but it still melted my heart.

AVR's fave quote:
Lucy: The word dagger was flashing on and off in my head like a neon sign. I shook my head. "I'm a pacifist. My body is a no-weapons zone."
Margaret Twigg: She regarded me from her sharp blue eyes as though I was being a tedious toddler. "An athame is not a weapon. It's symbolic. Metaphoric, if you like. The athame cuts away lies and reveals the truth. It helps you focus your power and your magic."

Me: I want one!!

Surprises!

I really enjoy this series! The vampire characters are fun, though Sylvia is one scary former movie star in this book. Interesting plot that moves right along, and I'm ready to dive into the next in the series!

Diamonds and Daggers is Book 11 in the Vampire Knitting Club Series. I absolutely LOVE this series and was so excited for this book, and I was not disappointed.

Lucy really gets herself into some trouble. The story involves priceless stolen jewels, a murder , and Lucy choosing her Dagger, which will mean more power for her as she continues with her witch training.

I absolutely love the characters in this book . I love the romance between Vampire Rafe and Lucy.

The characters are well written and the story flows so well. There were two mysteries perfectly intertwined and as usual I was totally shocked by who the murderer was.

This is a stand alone cozy mystery, but you will definitely enjoy all the books in the series!!!

2020 bk 378. When a film company decides to re-make one of Sylvia's silent films and seeks out her heirs, they little know that they will involve Lucy in another murder mystery. They also don't know that Sylvia is a vampire and protective of her image. Desiring to see the film made again, Sylvia agrees to a mock heiress (Lucy) and the loan of her gems for a publicity night - and the copying of them for the film. Little do they know that it is all a ruse, designed to steal the gems. Lucy must solve the mystery of the death of the accountant and the theft of the jewelry to ward of Sylvia's temper. One of the best of the Vampire Knitting Club series.

Lucy finds herself frozen out when Sylvia, glamorous vampire & former silent screen star, coerces Lucy into fronting for her when a little known production company wants to re-make her most famous movie, The Professor’s Wife. Rune Productions wants to throw a fabulous gala at St. Peter’s College in Oxford, where part of the film was made, to announce the remake. Lucy, as Sylvia’s supposed heir, has to sign the contract allowing the company to copy an exquisite & priceless set of diamond and emerald jewelry made by her friend, Jacques Cartier, for that movie. Trouble is, Sylvia wants Lucy to wear the irreplaceable set to the night of the gala for publicity. Reluctantly, because who can say no to a vampire, especially Sylvia, Lucy agrees. The night of the gala, something seems off when the slightly obsessive accountant for the film tells her the film account isn’t balancing. After she agrees to meet in a private room down the hall, Lucy shows up, only to be knocked out & the jewels stolen. Sylvia’s wrath is beyond terrible and the other vampires have to protect Lucy from her. Rafe takes her to his country house to keep her safe & recover but Lucy is determined to find the jewels, especially when the accountant is found murdered. She & the other vampires band together to investigate. Otherwise, she can never face Sylvia in the Vampire Knitting Circle again. Providing she survives Sylvia’s fury.
This book is a bit different from the others in that we see more of Sylvia’s life before she was turned. It would be interesting to read about bits of the history of the other vampires too. The series continues to enchant with a very likeable heroine and an eclectic group of vampires & witches.

I have really enjoyed this series over the years. Sarah Zimmerman's narration is wonderful. I waited to get to this one until the series was complete, and I cannot remember why!

All that being said, this is not my favorite in the series. I did not feel like the story told suited the characters involved - the whole thing seemed out of character for all of them . . . Lucy, Gram, and Sylvia. Also, not a fan of the "witchiness". I am ok with the vampires . . . but the witches just seem to be there to offer competition.

Still moving on. Still enjoying. Just not my favorite.

A wonderful addition to this adorable series. I loved getting more of the vampires and character building in this one.

It seemed odd however, how Sylvia treated Lucy after she forced her to wear the jewels and I was seriously annoyed at Lucy for the choices she made.

It was very out of character for her to travel alone to meet some random guy. Just a note on that one but it is the whole story.

I want more William. And Henri.

Still don’t care for her choice of going with Rafe. Ian is great.

The last line had me giggling.

Diamonds and Daggers is a well-written cozy mystery and contains no sex or swearing. Other reviewers have written about the specifics of each book so I won’t repeat what they have already said, but from the book synopsis you can see that main character and aspiring witch Lucy finds herself in a precarious position and working to solve the mystery of vampire Sylvia’s missing priceless jewels.

If you like cozy mysteries with a bit of paranormal, a touch of romance, engaging characters, and minimal gore then buy Diamonds and Daggers and start reading! Actually, I take that back, don’t start here with book 11, start the series with book one if you have not done so yet! Each book can be read as a standalone, but why not start at the beginning and enjoy them all?

Characters continue to evolve and develop throughout the series and pretty soon I expect you will be just like me, circling the release date of the next book in the series on your calendar.

Author Nancy Warren is currently writing several series and the Vampire Knitting Club is my favorite. The characters are fun and engaging, and after reading all 11 books published to date they feel like old friends. I have also bought and listened to all of the audio books in the series several times each and highly recommend them; narrator Sarah Zimmerman is easy to listen to and does a wonderful job!

If you enjoy the Vampire Knitting Club series check out Nancy’s other series; the Great Witches Baking Show is another favorite of mine!

Great Mystery

Oh my! One important lesson learned in this book, do not piss Sylvia off! Even I was scared of her. This was a great mystery, and so happy that Hester took a significant role in the investigation. She was made a vampire when she was only 16. Can you imagine being a teenager forever! Great book, loved it.

Lucy is approached by one of the vampires, Sylvia, to represent her at a gala to announce the remake of the movie Sylvia had famously starred in, but there is a catch. Lucy has to wear the jewels from the movie that Sylvia has in her safe. What could possible go wrong, the room would be filled with celebrities' and security?

Diamonds and Daggers: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Vampire Knitting Club Book 11) by Nancy Warren is an engaging read involving Lucy and her friends in a robbery and murder. If you are new to the series this installment reads well but you may want to go to the beginning to actually read how Lucy came to own a knitting shop when she is not a knitter herself. Everyone is introduced in the first book with Rafe, the undead and others.

This lovely story has supporting character Sylvia in a more major role though it is still Lucy’s book. The plot holds your interest as you try to solve the mystery along with Lucy. I also enjoy any scene that Rafe is in but also seeing her cat too. Lucy is still developing her own powers which is involved in this tale too.

The Vampire Knitting Club is one of my favorite paranormal cozy mysteries. Lucy is young by my standard but still a wonderful character. With that said I recommend this series especially Diamonds and Daggers whole heartedly. Also a new favorite of mine is The Vampire Book Club. Lucy and Rafe made an appearance in this spin-off series.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Diamonds and Daggers by Nancy Warren
The Vampire Knitting Club Series Book Eleven
Lucy Swift has enough to keep her busy with running her knitting shop. But...she can't seem to refuse Sylvia Strand, a vampire who was a 1920s movie star and her gran's best friend, when she asks a favor from Lucy. If only she had the hindsight to say no.

As usual, it didn't work out well for Lucy, the person who ends up dead, or DI Ian Cholsom who knows something is off, but, being he's not privy to the world of vampires, just can't latch onto what Lucy may be hiding. Poor guy.

Another fun and page-turning adventure with Lucy, Rafe, and the gang. A cozy mystery with vampires who enjoy knitting.

Diamonds and Daggers, Book #11 in The Vampire Knitting Club series by Nancy Warren

Warren delivers another great read in this series. Lots of action, character development, fast paced, plenty of twists and turns, wonderful editing and proofing, and no cliffhanger ending.

This trip into Sylvia's past was an interesting mix of nostalgia and today's technology, playing the glamour of old Hollywood against the elegance of modern tech abilities. But perhaps the two greater facets of the storyline are Lucy's expanding powers in her witchcraft (and in her knitting) and the developing relationship between Lucy and Rafe.

A quick and delightful read.

Wonderful addition to the series! Makes one think what would happen if you angered a vampire that lives underneath you?

Really? Do we all not know better than to ignore our instincts? Especially when it comes to someone else's precious jewels. Yes you got it!

The fun in this story is trying to figure out who the culprit is. I had it partially till near the end whe. I was able to make the final conclusion.

What will Sylvia do if not recovered ? Rafe? It is his girlfriend that is in trouble.

Hi Nyx !!! You are so adorable. Wonderful job done. You can come over and do that for me too.

Fun, thoroughly enjoyable book. Might be able to be read as a standalone but hard for me to say, I invested in this storyline. if you enjoy this one, check out the other series by this author too.

This is my honest and freely given review. I did receive an ARC book.

I loved this book. The author does a wonderful job of placing Lucy in believable situations. I like that the other characters are also used to solve the mystery, that is not just left to Lucy to do everything.
The story flows easily and makes this a book hard to put down even when you reach the last page. I was truly sad when I finished the book.
There is only one thing I would have liked more of and that is more interaction between Lucy and Rafe. I personally prefer Rafe over the Ian.
Cannot wait for the next in the series. I believe I'm going to reread the whole series while I wait for the next book.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. Even though I got a copy for reviewing I still bought it.

Another Hit for Nancy Warren

I love Nancy Warren's books and this one was incredibly well written! I had no idea who the thief was and was somewhat shocked at the reason why. I also will say I have always loved Sylvia until this book. To me, she was unnecessarily mean and cold to Lucy which I did not like. Especially considering the fact the suggestion came from Sylvia herself. It just really irritated me to find out that jewelry was more important to her than Lucy's wellbeing. I did really enjoy the book in spite of Sylvia's action and demeanor.

Diamonds and Daggers: A Paranormal Cozy Mystery (Vampire Knitting Club Book 11)
by Nancy Warren

Diamonds and Daggers is the 11th book in the Vampire Knitting Club series. It can be read as a standalone book or as part of the series! (You should totally read the whole series though!)

This was such a fun read, with a great plot and exciting twists and turns. In true cozy mystery fashion, this is a clean read (with a hot vampire!) with a fascinating adventure to solve the homicide before the detective. This book grabs you from the start and doesn't let up until the very end. I could not put it down!

I love all of the characters in this book and how they interact with each other (#squadgoals).

There is nothing better than combining vampires, witches and knitting to check all my guilty pleasure boxes!

Diamonds and Daggers is now my favorite book in the series!

I'm so grateful to Nancy Warren for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
