3.5 stars, same as before. This kind of uses the mystery aspect for an excuse for incredible amounts of goofing off and, if not the equal of the My Next Life As A Villainess… series, it certainly makes a cute companion piece if you want more from the genre.
Gil comes clean, immediately disavowed by Cecilia because she’s got the density you expect from a heroine in a story like this. Gilbert recognizes that Oscar is a rival, but that’s only part of the problem as Cecilia’s knowledge of the game turns out to be causing more problems than it actually solves, which is honestly pretty clever as formula tweaks go.
The big twist comes from the supposed heroine, Lean, whose romance angle goes totally out the window because she’s become a popular BL author who bases her characters on Oscar and Cecilia’s boy incarnation, Cecil. That’s likely as not suggesting that Cecilia’s Japanese friend has been reincarnated in that role, but we’ll see.
That’s a rather charming twist on the usual way these things go and Lean is so into this whole scenario that the manga has to include a primer on the terminology used in BL writing, which is kind of funny in and of itself.
I’m torn on the art, which doesn’t add a ton, but by god the artist is trying. The number of wild takes coming out of Cecil at various points in this story are something else and watching her react to the curveballs flying at her is a lot of the fun.
Like I say, not the next best thing, but certainly the next really okay thing.
Oh my goodness, everything is derailing, there is BL (which made me laugh so much, if only Lean knew that Cecil is Cecilia), oh if only Oscar knew that Cecil is Cecilia (teehee), Cecil/Cecilia is so oblivious like seriously girlllll, assassins (yes), and so much more fun.
Yep, Lean still annoys me with how she manipulates people into situations so she can get her inspo for her yaoi fetish creations. It's not that she likes yaoi, it's that she doesn't even stop to consider that her creations are based on real people and that her work is causing problems because people are assuming that fiction is real (yes, I know it doesn't help that Cecilia is disgusting herself as dude, but at least Cecilia is doing for the reason of trying to avoid her death flags in this world). It's the same problem as people writing about real-life people in fanfiction; it's just plain wrong and weird. I feel like Lean/Ichika is treating this world as a game world, that she played the game for, even if she's living in it.

The expressions that “Cecil” makes are often hilarious. Now she’s messed things up and slowly started conquering yet another of the love interests…the problem is that Cecilia has a one track mind and is very focused on the game events without any real thought to how much her existence has changed everything. Oscar and Gilbert didn’t immediately fall for Lean, and Killer hasn’t appeared yet…though the third holy maiden candidate hasn’t shown up even though she should be alive.
Cecilia should consider why Lean is so different, obsessed with BL and dragging everyone else down the rabbit hole. Does it not remind her of a certain friend?

I like how we get to focus on Gilbert in this volume. Love the art as usual. It seems like Cecilia doesn’t seem to notice that she’s the one pulling some of the male leads of the otome game. I also like how Lean, the original female lead, has become obsessed with creating BL 😂
Although...I almost threw the volume across the room once they showed that Gilbert has *cough* romantic feelings for Cecilia. Like, couldn't he just a normal familial bond with her considering his background before her family took him in?

I love how Oscar is around Cecil. It's really adorable, as well as his devotion to Cecilia even after all those years. All the characters are so much fun and likeable, it makes for an interesting cast but one that keeps me laughing. I like the slow build up of all the different love interests and how Cecilia is slowly changing how everything is unfolding in her clumsy way. She can be a bit innocent and oblivious but is still shown to be very capable in her way. Definitely no helpless lady.
Notes: -Still rooting for Gil. -I don't care for the other male lead. -Speculation: The supposed otome heroine is actually the MC's bff who died way before in the rl world. She's also not a bitch, I hope.
