Skyler’s breakup survival plan is simple: Swear off men for a year and celebrate her man cleanse with a solo tropical vacation to Hawaii. Snorkeling, sightseeing, zip lining, and leisurely dinners by the sea are just what the doctor ordered to mend her broken heart.
That is, until she meets a hunky adventure tour guide who makes her want to break all her own rules. Handsome, funny, and exciting, Caleb is by far the hottest local attraction. Will a romantic island fling lead to more heartbreak - or a new beginning?

First of all, you can't expect a 77 minutes audiobook to have everything perfected. And so will I not be pointing out how this book should be better because it was obvious that this is not going to be like any other full-fledged novel. In lieu, I'll tell you what about this audiobook that works.
If I have to describe the book in one word, I'll say it's very vibrant. Each character was given a unique voice by a different actor and I truly enjoyed them. It’s also nice to have a very brief musical interlude to differentiate the storyteller parts from the story being told. Though I know some people may not like having all these backgrounds sounds as this can be disconcerting and can result in the listener losing its concentration. Still, I personally think it helps to underline the scenes and settings.
Alternatively, instead of narrating the plot to you, this full-cast narration was more akin to a screenplay/dialogues than a standard audiobook. From where I stand, this part does the trick because you either feel like you were with them during the vacation or you're watching a movie by the end which is very cool. It also helps that Lauren Blakely created a well-developed storyline and characters — you'll take in the appropriate transitional statements or phrases designed that draw you deeper into the story.
The characters are also easily likable. Skyler was a fun character, strong-willed, and completely out of her element on an adventure trip to Hawaii. Meanwhile, Caleb was a studly man who had too much love for his water job. Together, they made their time witty and lively. I just wished the narrator would say their dialogues more naturally and expressively.
As a whole, you can tell I am very much impressed with the outcome. I was hoping this book would be prolonged as it has so much potential to be good. For what it is worth, this was a welcome diversion from reality and a joy to listen to.
2.5 stars I hope Ms. Blakely doesn’t do this again. The voice acting is okay, but the absence of narration exposed all the weaknesses in the story. The cheesy dialogue couldn't carry this, I’m sorry to say. An experiment that didn't work.
2 and is being nice about it. There are some audible originals pretty good but this one was meh and with no story just dialogs and felt rush and with no feelings
This was sweet. I liked the flirty dialogue between the romantic couple. The audio itself was a little jumpy. Not a not to be missed, but a lovely palate cleanser between audio books.
One of the dumbest audiobooks I've ever listened to. Zero narration. Decent banter, but also lots of cheesy dialogues. Not enough depth for relationship development. Caleb decides she's worth dating after he finds out that she likes turtles?? 🤣
Maybe if the story was longer, it would have allowed for more in-depth character development and plot advancement. The narrative style, or the absence of it, was interesting... The sound effects were just not it, and honestly, this one seemed to be more of a stream of consciousness than a structured narrative. 😆
Oh, well, I wouldn't write this author off, just wouldn't recommend this particular story. The potential is there, but the execution was terrible.
The voice actors were fine but the production was horrible. Was I the only one who thought the male voice sounded like he was in a closet it was so quiet and muffled compared to the female voice. You could tell the voice actors recorded their lines separately and then the production team tried to mash it together to make it sound like they are together. It just didn't flow! Then there was the weird nothing sounds in between scenes that made you check the recording was still playing.
The story was not very intriguing just a bunch of random scenes and the couple had zero chemistry when they were together.
Not sure what the point of this whole thing was. I didn't like the sound effects added to the audio. Hopefully, that's not the way audiobooks are going moving forward.
Oh my gosh, this might be my favourite Lauren book and its toooooo short its soo good. I have listened to a lot of Lauren’s books and something about this one just got to all my feels.
I really enjoyed all the sounds too it was high quality and didn’t feel out of place.
Great characters! I feel for them head over heels I want more!!
Loved the narration sometimes I get lost when there are too many voices but this was done so perfectly it just added to the listening experience.
This is the kind of audio book that brings to mind the old radio shows before television. (No, I'm not that old, but I have checked them out from the library) So, you have to center your mind to a movie without the picture. It is all dialogue and background noise. Our heroine takes a trip to Hawaii to get away from men. Of course, since its a romance, she quickly meets a guy. (I would have just met a sunburn) She decides on a fling, but it keeps going and lands up in romance that ends in love. Cute romance even though it is a really fast story.
It is so BAD I wanna give u a 0, but that’s not possible, so I give u a ONE. Is it legal for a story to be this shallow and dull?? It was like eating unseasoned cooked chicken, that’s how boring it was. Let me quote an ACTUAL fragment of a conversation between the MCs
“‘Oh, I didn’t know coffee was something you provided on the tour.’ ‘It’s not, but I thought you might like it.’ ‘I do. Especially secret coffee, just for me.’ ‘Secrets taste better, don’t they?’ ‘Secrets are like dessert.’”
OH LORD DAVE ME FROM THIS CHEESY CRYING ASS DIALOGUE
Initially, what I thought was going to be a fun adventure for a woman taking a manbatical after her latest break-up just didn’t measure up. I really liked the idea of taking a year off of dating and focusing on self-care with a tropical vacation to Hawaii thrown in to celebrate it. I just didn’t feel invested in Skylar or her journey and never felt connected to Caleb.
Books with the vacation fling premise can be quite fun and entertaining, but this one just fell flat for me and honestly, I think it’s because it was an audiobook and it was only 1 hour and 17 minutes long so there was absolutely no time to flesh out Skylar and Caleb so the reader can get to know them better. Also the sound effects were too much. By this, I felt like I was in a crowded restaurant with all the white noise in the background; flatware scraping on plates, conversations that aren’t clear enough to make out what’s being said but distracting enough to pull me out of the story. The most annoying for me were the scenes where Skylar is texting her friend about Caleb. There were sound effects for the sounds on the phone when you are typing out a text. I’m rolling my eyes so hard, I began to worry, they would get stuck. At one point, I started to think there was a problem with the recording and that something else had been recorded with this book. Sometimes too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing.
I enjoyed the performances of all the narrators and the story itself was OK. I think I would have enjoyed it more as a Kindle book with quality time spent getting to know the characters better.
My Final Verdict: If you are a person that is easily distracted by a lot of extraneous noise may want to give this one a pass. If you are a reader looking for a quick fix and welcome the plethora of sound effects, this book will fit the bill.
What a ludicrous story. I was either rolling my eyes or cringing the entire way through. Jeeze... The level of hypocrisy and nonsensical shenanigans in this story. Caleb spends one night with Skylar and decides he wants to "make it work" and long-distance date.
Caleb day 1- My last girlfriend moved to fast and was super clingy. Caleb day 3- "We can take flights", "all it takes is a little work", and "There are no ifs. no ifs at all because we're worth it".
Really Caleb? After spending one day together. And what made Caleb dive in headfirst? His friend calls and says "Dude she likes turtles." That's it. That's all it took. (slow clap). Superb job Caleb. You really learned from the last time.
Damn, I must say this was an extremely short audiobook. I honestly wish that it was longer. I think that I would have rated it higher if it was longer and more in-depth. I really enjoyed the background music and sound effects. Still would have liked it to be longer and more fleshed out. Find me on: My Blog | My BookTube | My Book Club | Instagram | Twitter
This was a fun audio read that I enjoyed listening to while doing my gardening.
Skyler swore off men for a year after a particularly bad break up.
She has now decided to take a celebratory vacation for her one year single-versary. She is determined to step out of her comfort zone and try some new things. She signs up for every adventure outing she can and prepares to face some of her fears.
Lucky, she will be guided by the gorgeous Caleb, her tour guide. He turns out to be not just her tour guide but they become great friends. She enjoys chatting to him and they begin to spend additional time together. They realise they have something growing between them and it's so unexpected.
Skyler's man drought may be over :)
I loved that there were so many fab narrators on this story, Andi Arndt, Jason Clarke, Erin Mallon, Savannah Peachwood, Emma Wilder, Jakobi Diem, Dan Bittner.
Meh. This was kind of boring. I have been loving the cute little short stories on Audible, they make great in betweens after something heavy. This one was not very cohesive. It felt very very rushed with the feelings. Best part about this is the full cast narration.
A short romantic comedy with a full cast of seven narrators. It reminds me a lot of having a television show playing in the background because the entire audiobook is a mixture of sounds, background noises, and dialogue.
Skylar spends one year single, then decides to go on a "single-versary" alone. Of course, while she is there, she breaks her own rules and has a fling with the handsome tour guide.
It's cute, it's okay; it could have been produced a little better. Solid enough for a short listen while vacuuming and dusting my house today.
Audiobook Notes: Title: One Of Those Flings by Lauren Blakely Narrator: Andi Arndt, Jason Clarke, Erin Mallon, Savannah Peachwood, Emma Wilder, Jakobi Diem, and Dan Bittner Length: 1 hour, 17 minutes Publisher: Audible Originals
This was a free audible original and I always add each of them so I have something to listen to all the time.
Oh man. What a mistake this was. I made myself finish it because of the other reviews on Audible. I should have done my research on the author. To me, this was a 12 year old’s point of view of romance and was written from that perspective too. I listened to it while I ran errands and I wondered what people thought was wrong with me as I made faces at the gag worthy dialog.
Oh my god this was absolutely terrible. Thank GOD it only took an hour. It was entertaining to listen to on my long morning walk with Henry but it was so truly awful I was praying for the end and I laughed out loud so many times, not because it was funny in any sense. because it was just so truly awful
This was a lot different from what Lauren usually writes and I'm not really sure what to feel about it. I loved the narrators (duh!) but I felt like something was missing? I'm not really sure what though. I can't put my finger on it.
It wasn’t terrible but I didn’t connect with it either. After the epic cast and narration of Call Me Maybe, this one fell flat. Except for Jakobi Diem, he can do no wrong and was flawless in his narration.
