A warrior scarred... A descendant of Diana... When two worlds collide... Atlantis is unmasked.
Alexios survived two years of unspeakable torture at the hands of a vampire goddess. Now he's been ordered to team up with a beautiful warrior and take on the most dangerous mission of his life: to retrieve the Vampire's Bane. Without it, Atlantis can't ascend to the surface and take its rightful place in the world. But when evil threatens, will Alexios be led by duty-or his heart?
Grace is part of the rebellion against the vampires and shape-shifters trying to take over her world. She is deadly with her bow, because when she takes aim, she never misses her target. But suddenly she's focused on a damaged Atlantean warrior who sees her as a weapon, not as a woman. When thousands of lives are on the line, will passion overrule, or will her aim be true?

Ok, I'm seriously obsessed now. I'm getting to adore this series. I don't know what it is, I mean, of all my favs it is the one I liked the less in prn-romance but it has definitely turned into a fav now. It has been a long long time since I read a prn series all together. Usually I have to read other books from other genres in between, but I'm not getting bored at all with this one, quite the opposite, I'm liking it more and more with every book.
In this installment we get to read about Alexios. I must admit I thought this book would be bad because I did not care for this character at all as he was barely mentioned in the previous books. Boy was I wrong, I loved Alexios. I adored his scarred and tortured side. The heroine in this installment was amazing, she was stronger than all the rest, a true warrior, one who cared deeply about the revolutions and who made a difference, almost as amazing as Quinn(Dying to read her book). And the romance was terrific, the best couple so far. I loved that they didn't quite immediately jump one another, but they worked for moths together and got to really appreciate one another before discover they were soul-mates.
And what an ending. I would have definitely not like it this much if it wasn't for that ending, you guys just have to read it. It was terrific. With this 2 last books there has been going an outstanding world building. More characters and species are coming to get known, as well as more info about what it to come in the future. I loved this book. Not sure if it was better than the previous one though. Loved them both the same I think. But definitely books 3 and 4 were better than books 1 and 2. Can't wait to read the 5th. I'll start tomorrow for sure. I'm loving this series!!! What I just don't get is why so many didn't like this book as much as the first 3, please let me know because for me it was one of the bests so far.
Alexios' story is good, maybe 4 1/2 stars. I liked the ending, and I was really glad that he got his HEA. It's only not 5 stars because there was a huge build-up of action in Atlantis Unleashed, and it led to this book, only to not really have much action. BUT it was still a great story and I liked Ethan's role as the alpha who calmed down the enthralled shifter. I'm really surprised that Alaric went psycho, but hoping he and Quinn can get together- Keely saw something of that in a vision from the last book. But back to Alexios and Grace- the two of them have such a tenuous relationship to begin with, she's one of the rebels, and he is one the Atlantean Seven. His face is scarred from vampire goddess Anubisa (yes she's back...if she ever really went away) and he feels he is not good enough for Grace...but she feels the same about herself, even though she is a descendant of Diana, goddess of the hunt. But at the end, even diana joins in to defeat Anubisa...but will she stay defeated? And what about Alexios and Grace, you ask? They are pregnant! Can't wait for Atlantis Redeemed...Brennen's story.
I always forget how much I like this series until I read another book.
Alexios is the typical alpha male, protective of Grace. He was imprisoned and tortured by the vampire Goddess Anubisa and bears the mental and physical scars. He worries that he has not fully recovered from this mentally and pushes Grace away in the beginning.
Grace is a descendant of the Goddess Diana. Headstrong and independent, she has dedicated her life to the rebel cause under Quinn's direction, and vows to avenge her brothers death.
Grace and Alexios are perfectly matched for each other. I enjoyed watching both of them resist each other, then decide to give in to each other.
The storyline continues with a cameo cast of characters we were introduced to in previous books as well as some new ones. It has been a while since I read the last book in this series, however I thought this book moved quickly and was glad that a lot of rehashing of what already happened was kept to a minimum.
Fast-paced, intense and funny at times, and I can't forget the hot and smexy bits, I cannot wait to get to the next book in the series.
If GR allowed 1/2 stars I'd put it up as 4.5 - not because it wasn't a good book but because some of the focus to the story line was lost by the author doing setup for later books [notably Alaric and Quinn plus the whole Fae/birth gift thing:]. The climactic scenes with the invasion of the head vamp's house were a little muddied. You simply didn't feel the sense of resolution you did in earlier books.
On the plus side, Alexios is a great character. The action was excellent. Grace was acceptable [she needed a little seasoning:]. The support characters Sam and Michelle were interesting and might be being 'teased' for future stories.
I will buy the next book for sure!
Warriors of Poseidon 1. Atlantis Rising (2007) 2. Wild Hearts in Atlantis (2007) (in Wild Thing) 3. Atlantis Awakening (2007) 4. Shifter's Lady (2008) (in Shifter) 5. Atlantis Unleashed (2008) 6. Atlantis Unmasked (2009)
Alexios has been through a lot. He was held prisoner and tortured by Anubisa, the Goddess. He learned to get pleasure out of pain and wonders if he will ever be fit to love normally.
In comes Grace; independent and strong, yet caring. She's used to being alone and wants to keep it that way.
When these two meet, they go against all their carefully constructed rules realizing they don't have to be alone.
I liked the fact that Alexios got his much deserved happily-ever-after. I did notice that the plot (Vonos and his plans) were over and done with way too easily. I was happy that we got to experience the couple's happiness, but the story was unbalanced.
Still, the pacing seemed to be steady as I was able to finish this book in one day.
There's something about Day's writing that has you overlooking or just not caring about certain issues. I'm fine with that. I can't wait to get to Alaric's story.
I love this series! This one wasn't as good as the others have been but it was still really good. My only real problem was Grace. I wasn't a huge fan of hers. I hate when characters live in denial. I also hated that she was so worried about being the one to take care and protecting the rebels.. She is a 25 year old human. I get that she was the commander of that particular rebel base but why the hell would you get upset about having some atlantis warrior help? I don't get it. She would get mad when Alexios tried to protect her too. That was freaking annoying. You can be a strong female while still accepting help. It doesn't make you weak. I mean she was getting way too mad about not being able to keep everyone safe by herself. It just annoyed me.
If it weren't for Grace I would have really loved this book. I loved Alexios and I loved all the side characters. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Day is an amazing author. This wasn't my favorite in the series, but I did enjoy it quite well. This was Alexios' story, and his woman is Grace, who is a leader with the human rebels. I just am not much into hearing about all the human rebels. I want Atlanteans and shapeshifters and such. Human's are boring.
I did a lot of laughing out loud - even in public - with this book. Some of Day's one liners are just plain lol funny.
And now we wait. I hate waiting for the next book in a series to come out. I'm ready for a softer protag, but I don't think I'm going to get it in the next book. Still, I'm looking forward to Brennan's story.
Fourth in the Warriors of Poseidon paranormal romance series about the Seven, warriors who form a protective guard for the crown prince of Atlantis. The couple focus in on Alexios and Grace Havilland at Fort Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida.
The jewel focus is the Vampire's Bane.
My Take The series plot line [that hasn't much tension] is the need to recover all the gems that belong in Poseidon's Trident. Without those gems, when Atlantis rises up from the ocean floor, it will be destroyed.
The story was enjoyable but getting to be a bit same 'ol, same 'ol. This one felt more like Day had to get this particular warrior tidied up and off the waiting list with lots of dipping into everyone else's life. Which is weird as I normally love getting the "news from home" about the series characters. Perfunctory is the word that comes to mind.
I think Day missed an opportunity to make this story interesting by not taking the tension of the elves wanting an alliance deeper. It was just words. The whole story is a disjointed series of events...it's more of a bridge novel with bits and pieces happening that are related only in that it reflects on the overall conflict. Even the events at the fort are just chunks: the shifter attack simply confirms what they already know; the meeting with the elves doesn't go anywhere; I don't understand the purpose of Rhys kidnapping Grace and Alexios; and, the whole party scene was just too easy with no visible resolution for Rhys. Although, the scene where Ethan's alpha projection affects Grace was pretty funny---Alexios was pretty He. Ro. Ic being a good boy!
One of the things that's been bothering me in this series is why would the United States government OR its people accept a vampire senate as a third house? It sounds as though the government is catering to the vampires as though they were gods or royalty or something. Why?
The Story It's a double ambush for Alexios in St. Louis. First when the shifters try to take them out on the way to the hospital. Second when he realizes how attracted he is to Grace. It's too much for our hundreds-of-years-old indomitable warrior and he flees back to Atlantis.
When Rhys na Garanwyn makes an offer to the Atlanteans through Grace, it causes almost as much of a problem as the changed enthrallment the vamps seem to be using on humans and shifters. Then Ven assigns Alexios to the rebel training camp in Florida. To Grace. It's all downhill from there as Alexios falls deeper and deeper in love. Alexios is resisting for fear of dishonoring his vow while Grace can't believe someone as incredible as Alexios could possibly want her. [I rather wish authors could come up with a better excuse for the denial.]
It's in the news, shifters are attacking and killing people all over the country. In Florida, they are targeting drug dealers and crooks so people are ignoring it. Then one pack of shifters attacks the fort. Dealing with the aftermath simply applies more pressure for the upcoming meeting with the fae nor do they have any idea yet about the Vampire's Bane.
The Characters Grace Havilland has been fighting with the rebel forces since the day the vampires came out. The night a vampire killed her brother Robbie. The night she gave up her contention for the Olympic swimming team. She found the great-grandmother she'd never met who passed on the family legacy as a hunter for Diana, goddess of the moon. Now her only connection to her childhood is Michelle and Aunt Bonnie. Michelle Nichols is Grace's friend and also part of the rebellion. Spike is on Grace's team.
Alexios is one of the Seven and has done well in getting past most of the horrors he experienced as a prisoner of Anubisa. He's desperately trying to ignore his attraction to Grace to avoid dishonoring the vow of celibacy he made. At a covert meeting to discuss the enthrallment issue, Lucas asks Alexios to be second pack-father to his sons.
The other six include Bastien who will marry Kat, a park ranger and panther shifter; Lord Justice, half-Atlantean, half-Nereid, and his Keely, an archeologist (their adopted daughter Eleni is mentioned, see Atlantis Unleashed); the King's Vengeance "Ven" and his Erin, the gem singer; the unemotional Brennan; the irrepressibly cheeky Christophe; and, the youngest and most emotional, Denal. Bastien's sister Marie, First Maiden of the Nereids, also gets a few mentions.
Prince Conlan is anxiously awaiting the birth of his child with Riley Dawson. High Priest Alaric has great power and I think he's starting to crack up over his avoidance of Riley's sister, Quinn, the rebel leader. Jack Shepherd is also a rebel, a tiger shifter, and interested in Quinn.
Rhys na Garanwyn, High Prince of the High House of the Seelie Court wants an alliance with the Atlanteans. He seems to be attracted to Grace although his flirtation could simply be to mess with Alexios. Some of the elves are starting to worry about the shifters and vampires. His brother Kal'andel is not one of them.
Lucas is the alpha for a pack of wolf shifters based around Yellowstone Park. Honey is his mate and about to give birth to sons. Ethan is the alpha for the panthers in Florida; Marie is his mate (see, Shifter: Shifter's Lady).
At Fort Castillo de San Marcos: Sam was a colonel in Special Forces before the vampires took over the military. Now he's Grace's second-in-command. Tiny is a friend of Sam's who helps with clean-up.
Vonos is the current lord high vampire of the Primus, the leader of the Vampire Senate. Anubisa is the vampire goddess of Chaos with a major hate for all things Atlantean. Prevachek is Vonos' assistant in Daytona Beach and too much of a suck-up.
The Cover The cover is blues and red-purples in an obvious undersea setting with a Hellenic facade in the background. Alexios is poised for combat with his trident wearing blue jeans with his nude, very red, upper torso [my guess is that the red is a flashback to his imprisonment with Anubisa]. His Warrior tattoo is on his left upper bicep.
Alyssa Day knocks it out of the park with 'Atlantis Unmasked. The drama, angst, and personal insecurities brought on from their individual trials bring these two characters to life in such a way they become relatable. I'm totally e.nthralled with the gods and goddesses of old and can't wait to see how things play out with this new prophecy.
Three and half stars for "Atlantis Unmasked" by Alyssa Day. If every series has a 'stumble', then for me this book is it. I didn't 'feel' the connection between the main characters and the writing felt choppy instead of the smooth flow I'm used to from this author. I didn't hate it by any means, but I was expecting much more.
Grace is a leader of the human rebellion against the vampires and their allies and has been ever since her brother was killed by a pack of vamps celebrating their 'coming out'. She uses the gift of perfect aim she received from the goddess Diana's blood passed through her family. She's closed herself off from everything but vengence and just wants to take out as many vamps as she can before she dies fighting. The warrior Alexios disturbs her. He's the only man who shakes her composure and makes her 'feel'. But he's an Alpha male all the way and Grace won't stand for anyone trying to protect her and her goddess may not either!
Alexios is scarred, physically and mentally. Tortured as a plaything by the goddess Anubis, her minions scarred his face with hellfire. He's drawn so powerfully to Grace, but fears opening himself up to the pain of love and loss. Now the Fae have appeared on the scene and that's never, ever, ever a good thing. Alexios has been tasked to work with Grace and steal the Vampire's Bane from the possession of the most powerful vampire yet.
I can't even write a smooth review for this one. It feels disjointed. I'll just blame it on the appearance of the Fae. Will that work? I'm guessing Day is expanding the scope of the plotline as there seemed to be a bit of 'empire building' present to include new characters, new allies, and possibly new enemies. I'm hoping that's the case and in any event, every series has a 'lag book' and this one's it for me so far.
Alexios is still yummy, but Grace never quite felt right to me. Toward the end, she changed quite a bit which made her better for Alexios but struck me as a kind of cheat. Ah well, maybe it's just me. I still intend to keep reading this series and the next book is "Atlantis Redeemed" sked to release in Feb 2010.
Excelent Read! I loved the romance between Alexios and Grace and loved how the story ended and I am looking forward to reading more in this series to find out what happens when all the Gems are gathered and what the prophecy has foretold.
The characters amazed me and I fell in love with them all.
Alexios - the Atlantean Warrior that has a scared face on his left side - the scars are from the hell fires that Anubisa (Goddess of Chaos and Night) put upon him when she had him captured for 2 years in the past.
Grace - a descendant of Diana the Huntress Goddess of the Moon.
The ending was great, Diana the Goddess reveals to Grace that she is pregnant with Alexios child and that she is to name their first child/daughter Penarddun (Penny)
When asked why - Diana only tells them:
"A showdown between the gods is coming. yet another Doom of the Gods, as the wheel of the world progresses inexorably onward." Diana's face grew grim. "The ancient prophecy foretold that only a child who has blood from all races in his veins will save the world from the folly of the gods. Penarddun is to be part of that prophecy coming true, as shall the young prince, Aidan."
So many things happen in this book but the main points is that Conlan and Riley finally have their son and name him Aidan.
Grace uses her bow and shoots an arrow right into Anubisas heart and we all can assume she is dead for when they looked back at her when they heard the boom, they saw a silvery female (Huntress Moon Goddess) form firing arrow after arrow from her own phantom bow into the vampire goddess while she was screaming.
Grace and Alexios find the Yellow Bane - Diamond and take it back to Atlantis
I am excited to start the next book Atlantis Redeemed.

"Atlantis Unmasked" by Alyssa Day. Book 4 of the Warriors of Poseidon series.
Loving this series! Loved this book! Alexios and Grace are two characters that you just can't help falling in love with.
Alexios is a Warrior of Poseidon. High Prince Conlan has tasked him the job of helping a human woman named Grace, a subcommander of the rebellion, teach new recruits how to survive. The only problem is that every time he's near Grace, he has a hard time focusing on the task at hand and is instead focusing on her. His driving need to have her, hold her and protect her is something he's never felt before and he knows he's just not worthy of having a woman as beautiful and strong as Grace.
Grace is a decendent of the goddess Diana. She is determined to fight the vampires and their evil plot to take over the world. Revenge for her brother's death. Now she has to work side-by-side with the Atlantean, Alexios. She's been facinated with him ever since she met him months ago. There's a definite attraction between them but Grace knows he's just going to leave after his mission is over. Why put her heart on the line when it will just get broken?
I loved this story! The storyline was excellent and was incorporated very well with the overall series plot. The push-pull feelings that Alexios and Grace have for each other has so much passion and longing. The action throughout the book keeps the story exciting. Toss in some humour and you have a well rounded, fun to read story.
This is one of those PNR "brotherhood" series that reads like a UF that we're seeing a lot of these days. If you've read J.R. Ward's "Black Dagger Brotherhood" or Gena Showalter's "Lords of the Underworld" series then you know what I'm talking about. Each book features a different couple and a different mission or stage of the overall series battle. And yes, while the couple does hook up at the end, it certainly isn't a HEA because the series struggle is still continuing into the next book.
This particular book is about the Atlantean warrior, Alexios, and the one of the human rebellion leaders, Grace. Most of the story is an internal struggle for the two of them to overcome issues from their past so that they can be together, but there's also a mission to recover the Vampires Bane, a jewel that the Atlanteans need in order to raise Atlantis once again.
As for the writing, the style is closer to Showalter than to Ward. It's a good read, but doesn't blow your socks off. I'll still be picking up the next one, though.
I am giving this book a very generous 3 Stars, I think it was more a 2.25 Stars but I am not sure if that is being fair as I just finished reading Lover Unleashed and frankly after that, this book just irritated me!
The main reason I didn't like this was because everyone in it annoyed me, from the Grace the I-always-have-to-be-tough heroine who ofcourse has the mandatory tragic past to Alexios the scarred and tortured hero. Frankly, it all got a bit boring and sappy and I only read it all as I hate to leave a book unfinished. Also, what little story that was there was a bit tepid and was just rushed out at the end, most of this book was either Grace or Alexios moaning about their feelings and how they weren't good enough or harping on about their abandonment issues *yawn*
So, I am not sure if I will read the next one in thise series, they are just too hit and miss for me.
I didn't find either Alexios or Grace particularly interesting. I also felt Grace's youth to be off-putting. I wish the author had written her as a more seasoned character. Might have made her more interesting.
I also would have liked more background and info on the whole "descendant of Diana" thing. How exactly did Grace learn about her heritage? Did she spend years training with the bow or was the ability to never miss magically gifted to her? For something which was so critical to Grace's character in the course of the story, the background info was extremely sparse.

I love the books, but this one seems to either go to fast, or was too predictable. I felt like Grace was built up to be this strong warrior woman, but she barely fought. Alexios and Grace are a great pairing, but bringing in Fae kind of added to the clutter of this book. I was happy to hear of the healthy birth of Aiden, and happy that another baby is now on the way. I was saddened that there wasn't a Quinn/Alaric scene in this book... I hope to read more about them maybe in the next book, and I do recommend this book.
I really liked this one. Grace and Alexios made a great pair. I was disappointed it was over when it was - I wanted more of them. I'm so looking forward to all the other warrior stories that haven't been told yet.
Somehow I missed this book the first time I read the Warriors of Poseidon series. So far, it's been the best one yet. I LOVE Alexios. He is the ultimate tortured hero with his facial scars and horrifying memories. Grace fits him very well and is a force to be reckoned with all by herself.
A great tale of a warrior that has been scarred by a vampire goddess in need of some serious anger management. he ends up helping the shifters that are being controlled by one of the jewels of Atlantis. He ends up coming across his mate that happens to be a archer like Artemis. A must read.
Seriyi neredeyse unutmuşken 4. kitabın çıkması süpriz oldu..hikayeyi sevdim ve Rahip Alaric in hikayesinide merak ediyorum .
Atlantis Unmasked is the story of Alexios and Grace. Alexios has been tortured and carries the scars of his imprisonment by The Vampire Goddess. Grace has made it her mission to take out the vampires and shape shifters who threaten the human race. In order to achieve their goals these two must team up to retrieve the diamond stolen from Atlantis that is needed if Atlantis will ever rise again. In order to complete the mission they will be faced with letting go of a love they just discovered. Each book in this series is amazing. I finish one and think Wow how will the next top that but Alyssa Day continues to amaze. Excellent series.
this is Alexios and Grace's story..Alexios who has half his face scared thanks to Anubisa and her hellfire meets and of course falls in love Grace who is a descendant of Diane her arrows are always true and straight...Alexios and Grace must work together to retrieve the yellow stone called Vampires Bane so it can be returned to Atlantis and put back in the Trident so Atlantis can one day rise from under the water..they have to deal with a High Seelie Court Fae and shifters and 2 nasty vampires named Vonos and Prevacek...another good book in the series
Alexios is a warrior of Poseidon who carries scares from hell fire that mares is outer beauty but when he takes on the mission to help the rebels retrieve a precious jewel he discovers something more than any jewel he finds is heart in a fiesty female warrior Grace. Being a defended of Diana does keep this warrior from having a few scares of her own. They find any other the part that makes them hold.
