Three BFFs and a Wedding #1

The Worst Wedding Date

Rate this book
He’s a tattooed shirtless bad boy. My best friend’s brother. And the jerk on the other side of my bed.

I didn’t know bridesmaid was code for babysitter for the bride’s brother , but if that’s what my best friend needs of me for her dream wedding to go off without a hitch, that’s what I’ll do.

Even if Theo Monroe has been a pain in my rear since third grade.

Even if he should be responsible enough to not wreak havoc at his sister’s destination wedding.

Even if it means we have to share a hotel room in Hawaii, which might be the final duty that breaks me.

Not only does Theo know exactly how to push my buttons, but he never wears clothes, he’s hiding a litter of kittens in his room, and he keeps showing up with fresh-baked cookies that seemingly come from nowhere.

Also?

I have no idea what’s up with the tension between him and the groom.

Or why he’s so proud of the world’s strangest wedding gift.

Or why I suddenly want to know what makes him tick. The story behind his tattoos. How he can afford to rent a convertible in Hawaii. And if maybe all of that utter frustration and irritation I’ve felt for him for years is suppressed attraction that a good girl like me isn’t supposed to feel for the biggest bad boy of Snaggletooth Creek.

But I do know one thing.

When I find out his biggest secret and the answer to all of my questions, it will change everything .

The Worst Wedding Date is a frolicking good time of a destination wedding enemies-to-lovers romcom, complete with a good girl bridesmaid, her best friend’s troublemaking but secretly big-hearted brother, and more than one hitch on the way to happily ever after. It stands alone, has no cheating, and comes complete with ooey gooey goodness.

Before she became a USA Today and #1 Amazon bestselling romantic comedy author, she was a young military spouse who got into writing as self-therapy. That happened around the time she discovered reading romance novels, and the two eventually merged into a career. Today, she has more than 30 knee-slapping Pippa Grant titles and nine published under the name Jamie Farrell.

DNF at 47%. I’ve reached the end of my capacity to deal with this inane and absolutely ridiculous story. I don’t often give star values to books I don’t finish… but I paid money for this book and I need to warn you not to make the same mistake I did.

The only reason I got this far was because I had a 5+ hour car ride and needed an audiobook and I paid for this sh*ttastic book. I tried getting my money’s worth out of it, but it’s like trying to make lemonade out of rotten lemons.

What was this? Let’s go through my observations in no particular order.

1. The heroine’s best friend is getting married. It’s a week-long destination wedding to Hawaii (I think). For some bizarre reason, the bride is SOOOO FRAZZLED because her loser brother is making it soooo hard for her fiancé. As far as I can tell, the hero (the bride’s brother) does some stupid stuff, but it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE for the groom to be upset at him. The groom ASKED the HERO to PAY FOR THE WEDDING. And the hero is paying for the wedding. And yet, the groom is getting so annoyed at the hero for being a casual, flirty guy who pulls pranks here and there. But… once again, as far as I can tell, he hasn’t really done much. I would not want anyone to marry a douchebag who both treated their brother badly while asking for him to pay for the wedding.

2. Because the brother is SO MUCH TROUBLE, the heroine is asked to babysit him (actual request). The groom is annoyed by the brother so he has to be “watched” so he doesn’t “cause any problems”. BUT THE BROTHER IS PAYING FOR THE WEDDING!!! AND HE HASN’T DONE ANYTHING!!!

3. The idea of “fun” is that you have sex and get drunk and do cannonballs!? There is so much emphasis on the hero being “fun” and the heroine being uptight and boring.

4. The bride assigns the heroine to the brother’s bungalow. Let’s remind us all that THE HERO PAID FOR EVERYTHING. But, in order to watch the hero and make sure he’s staying on the straight and narrow, the heroine has to stay in his bungalow. But… (dun dun dun) the hero has a secret. He rescued cats and they are taking over the second bedroom (though he can’t tell the heroine cause it’s a BIG SECRET). She can’t possibly stay in the second bedroom because otherwise, she would see the cats (gasp) and he can’t stay there, because the cats have the run of the room. Huh? This was so confusing. So, he ends up having her stay in his room and he’ll take the sofa bed. Except the sofa bed is broken… so he ends up in the bed with her.

5. He wakes up with someone’s hand clutching his morning wood. He accuses the heroine of grabbing him in the middle of the night, except when she pulls the sheet up around her neck, he sees that she has two hands free and not grabbing him. So, he flings the sheet off of himself to see… HIS HAND WAS HOLDING HIMSELF! Whoa! Crazy. His hand had gone to sleep so he didn’t even know that he was holding his own d*ck! What!? Seriously, this whole brain-cell-killing scene went on for WAY TOO LONG.

6. The heroine is constantly putting herself down in a way that drove me crazy. Actual quote: “I’m the frumpy, flat-bottomed mouse.” Gross. I hate this.

7. The hero is secretly RICH. But he doesn’t want anyone to know. Also, he’s great with kids (and cats, of course). But he’s a JERK to the heroine. But wait, he “liked her in high school”. Wait! She liked him too! Whoa!

8. The book is a series of moronic events, including a scene where the heroine accidentally has an orgasm when she falls on the hero while a feral pig is ramming their rental car.

9. There is an aunt who calls the heroine a whore and the hero flirts and tells the aunt "no no, that's not nice". It's such a weird interaction.

I probably could go on and on about the absolutely trash contents of this book. It was mind-numbing and stupid. I cannot believe I spent money on this. This is the absolute WORST kind of "rom-com". It makes absolutely no sense.

I wanted to love this book but it felt immature for the age group that Laney and Theo were in. This probably would have worked better had they been written to be mid twenties, at the oldest.

I don't know why the author chose to write Theo's perspective using as few words as possible, but every time it switched over to his perspective and he would be thinking things like, "Don't like it. Never have. Want to go back to my room," I kept wondering why the hell he wouldn't use the word "I." It felt like that episode of The Office when Kevin decided to stop using full sentences because why use more word when few word do trick?

The "no-no box" and "danger stick" thing was abusive. Point blank. Laney's mother was abusive, and the fact that, at the end, she seems to have suddenly become a different person and just accepts Theo and nobody calls her on her abusive shit was very disappointing.

I also don't understand why Theo had this huge moment after Laney found out that he creates adult entertainment where he was telling himself that he wouldn't give it up, and that she'd have to accept that to be with him. But then when he gets home he decides to basically give it up and just start giving motivational speeches fully clothed.

That's fine, but I don't understand why he had that whole moment where he drew the line in the sand and said he wouldn't give that up, when he would.

A lot of people seem to really love this book, and I'm happy for them, but for me it was such a disappointment.

So fun

Classic Pippa is back, and I am all for it! Quirky, funny, playful, and swoony, this best friend's brother, good girl/bad boy romance felt like the rom coms that made Grant a one-click author for me. I loved that it felt like the start of something new too, so there weren't a million characters to try to keep up with from previous books. It also plays up familiar tropes while incorporating a fresh and interesting storyline - that I absolutely was not expecting - and our (semi-reformed) bad boy of a hero is the kind who will steal your heart with ease. Bad boy/good girl is a classic pairing for a reason, and watching these two realize how much they can empathize with each other was really great. They've got enough history to build a solid foundation (even in such a short timeline), while still having plenty of new things to discover along the way. It was lighthearted and smile-inducing in a big way, and I had a lot of fun while reading.

The story follows Laney, a woman who is drowning under the weight of her parents' high expectations. She's always been a bit of an uptight parent pleaser, and people always expect the best from her. While in paradise for a week of wedding festivities, Laney's best friend asks her to keep an eye on her troublemaking brother, Theo. He's always leaned into his bad boy reputation, and the two have never seen eye-to-eye. But it's been years since Laney has seen Theo, and it's clear that he's mellowed out some. He's still an incorrigible flirt who seeks out trouble like it's his business, but he's also got a softer, more responsible side. People still expect the worst from him, and Laney can relate to living up (or down) to expectations, so the two find themselves bonding in a way that neither anticipated. But Theo knows that he's got a secret that is sure to scare away a good girl like Laney, and it's only a matter of time before all is revealed.

I've been a big fan of Grant's work for years, but her newest releases haven't quite hit the mark the way they used to. That was not the case with this one. It only took a few pages for me to realize that the vibe was right up my alley, and I'm all for an opposites attract/sibling's best friend romance. It was also great that these two had the kind of history that makes the relationship feel richer, without any lingering resentment or unrequited love between them. Sure, there may have been crushes when they were younger, but both had written off the other as an option a long time ago. So they were almost starting fresh, and doing so while they learned about their adult selves. Theo makes a fantastic hero; he is such a sweetheart, so funny and the kind of bad boy you want to hug so he'll feel better. Not that this wasn't sexy - it definitely was. There's tons of chemistry between these two, and a few super sexy moments. It also had me smiling and laughing, enjoying an easygoing time. And I was genuinely surprised by Theo's secret, which took the story in an unexpected direction. If I have one complaint, it would be that it was slightly longer than it needed to be, but I cannot pinpoint a specific dull moment either. This was a very solid read, and gives me hope that it's the start of great new series.

Audio note: The audio is excellent! I'm not overly familiar with either Kit Swann or Ryan West, but they both do an outstanding job. Both voices were easy to listen to, and their performances were comedic and emotive. The narration added to the lighthearted feel of the story, and made it easier to get caught up in every moment. I also really enjoyed West's voice, so I'll have to be on the lookout for more from him. The only downside of the audio is that there are several scenes that involve crying or pre-wedding angst, which felt overly dramatic/cringy in this format. Everything else about the audio was great. The story itself is a slow burn, though there are plenty of moments that may not be suitable for a workplace listen - and there are also several scenes that may have you laughing out loud. The runtime is long enough that it took me a couple of days to get through, but I looked forward to diving back in every time I set it down. Definitely recommended on audio.

At 16 % and so far this is not making any sense to me. Emma, a friend of Delaney's, is getting married to Chandler, and her fiance Chandler does not get along with Emma's brother Theo for very vague and incomprehensible reasons that may or may not include that Chandler is a grumpy jackhole. Anyway Emma has a theory that vague and incomprehensible bad things will happen if Chandler and Theo meet but instead of talking to Theo, or talking to Chandler, like the two adults they are, and asking them to either play nice or keep away from each other, Emma drafts Delaney to act as Theo's babysitter. And Delaney drafts another friend, Sabrina, to stand guard so Theo doesn't leave his hotel room.

The heck is going on with this book? So far I have no idea why they think Theo needs a babysitter (or a jailer) and why Chandler can't be trusted to stay away from Theo if his bride's brother annoys him that much.

Uh and it looks like Chandler and Sabrina both need Theo to bail them off financially. So why are they making Theo feel like an outcast and not trying to get along? I guess people think Theo is a no-good slacker and in the meantime nobody knows that he's some sort of Croesus.

Emma, I don't think you should be marrying somebody who won't bother to try and tolerate your brother.

Picking up the book again in 2025: I got to 46% before bailing out the last time. Let's see if I can finish it now.

It physically hurts me to type this because I normally love all things Pippa Grant but this was a DNF for me. This story line was so weirdly convoluted and immature, I couldn't even bring myself to try to follow it.

I don't even know how to describe the absolute basket of cats this story was (pun intended). The male main character (Theo) is a "misunderstood" guy only out for fun and games and God forbid anyone know him as a hard working guy for fear of ruining his stellar reputation. The female main character (Delaney) is of course, Theo's total opposite and is a fun hating, stick in the mud, tasked with babysitting him for her best friend at her wedding. They must share a bungalow for the wedding week because the groom doesn't get along with Theo and apparently this is all just too much for the bride to take. Because Grant loves an animal cameo (and for no other reason than that), Theo has rescued a bunch of feral cats and is keeping them in the second bedroom of the bungalow, so of course, Delaney and he are forced to share a bed. I will not go into the sheer craziness of some of the things that happened while they're sleeping.

The mmc is a total ass to the fmc but of course he's an undercover good guy and everyone else just misunderstands him. Turns out he's also rich and is paying for everything but for some godforsaken reason, everyone is hating on him wanting to enjoy his vacation.

I just couldn't make it through. I've never not finished a Pippa Grant book but this was just not for me.

DNF at 1/3. Tried so hard to give this a shot and it was some of the most exhausting hours of my life.
I'll say it again, I'll say it a million times. SHOW don't TELL.
This book could have been a bit of witty, light-hearted, trope-filled fun. Instead, it was page after page of internal monologues and whining.
Awkward situations were dragged on and on and had me begging for the punchline, just to be free. Not one of them was funny.
Waste of money.

Das war wirklich enttäuschend.

• Typie verdient Geld bei Onlyfans. Okay, cool.
• Ach so. Er war früher ihr Mobber. Aber keine Sorge, das war nur, weil er sie mochte. Also alles nicht so schlimm. Eigentlich sollte ich allein dafür noch 3 Minussterne verteilen.

The author is never where I’m expecting her. Her books are unpredictable, but always real good. This one is no exception.

Unique characters: check. Between rule follower Laney and breaker of all rules Theo, we already get opposites with the main characters. Add to that that Laney is trying to finally live, and that Theo is maybe more complex, and the main couple is a study in contrasts. Their family and friends are no less special–the mischevious triplets, the farting aunt, the too perfect bride that everybody loves, the gossiping best friend, etc. Some of the interactions between those characters deserve snort laughs.

Unique situations: check. The destination wedding in a crumbling resort, the hidden kittens, the loud sneezes, the feral pig… As usual with the author, the best way to test the characters is to dump them in an impossible situation, and there are plenty there. It helps with writing consistent characters. And they all are here, even confronted with moments they weren’t expecting. Also deserving of snort laughs.

Unique sexy times: check. When they’re not, they aren’t on the page. The few intimate scenes are consistent with the characters and aren’t completely gratuitous. Through their shared intimacy, Laney and Theo express their feelings, but also grow as characters. And they’re sexy and fun.

Unique writing style: check. The author’s writing style is fun. The banter is delicious, and there’s a lot of humor in the images used. Though I felt this time that the characters’ voices were too similar. They kind of thought the same. It isn’t totally a fail, as I can see how it shows the similarity between Theo and Laney that they keep emphasizing, but I’m not sure it was intentional.

You know what’s funny too? I wrote this review insisting on my expectations, and expectations are at the center in the story. Too high, too low, misguided, all the kinds. While Laney’s parents want the best for her, people around Theo don’t expect much from him. The side characters are also subject to expectations: Emma is living for her dream wedding, Sabrina needs money, the triplets have a secret they want to confirm…

Funny, sexy, heatfelt, it’s another great piece from the author.

Quickie

- Series: standalone
- Hashtags: #romcom #enemies to lovers #best friend’s brother #opposites attract #forced proximity
- Triggers: mention of cheating (side character), emotional abuse
- Main couple: Delaney Kingston & Theo Monroe
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + inspirational porn star? okay, I buy
- – someone deserved more than a slap in the face…

4.5- what a fun story. From the destination wedding resort that has no staff, all the guests with secrets, the kittens, the flamingo suit, the deadbeat groom, the taxidermy angle, Theo's sacrifice for his sister to a feral pig ramming his rental car- hilarious. There are a ton of characters to keep track of so beware.

Laney arrives in Hawaii to help her friend Emma get married. Emma has tried to lock down Chandler since they were young and has forgiven him of many things. Too many that no one thinks this is a good idea anymore. She is put on Theo duty- the guy she has had NO good feelings about ever.

She is put to work babysitting Theo and events happen (kittens) that they have to share a bed. Theo is too funny:
“Did someone sneak in here and put a fake hand around my woody?” I whisper.
(What an awesome prank that would be)

Laney finds out that Theo is a great big sexy cinnamon roll and is horrified to find out all the things she has been wrong about for years. She also is struggling, needing to find her purpose, so the chemistry between her and Theo is scorching. She wants to be the fun one now.

An honest Theo is super attractive:
“And you were always too good for me, but I still liked you, so I was an asshole because it was easier to push you away than to face the fact that you would forever be better than me and never give me a chance. So it’s easy to just be an asshole to you. It’s habit. I’m sorry. I’ll do better.”

The pig incident:
“We should call someone. The sheriff’s office. Is there a sheriff on the island? Or is it the police? Who’s in charge of roadkill here?"
----------
In this moment, we’re simply two people supporting each other through an unexpectedly erotic experience brought on by a wild animal in paradise.

And YES:
His mouth twitches up in one corner, and I want to kiss it. Oh, god, do I want to kiss it. He angles closer to me, that grin morphing into a smoldery smile.
“Laney Kingston, are you admitting that my secret competence might turn you on?”

What Theo understands about his sister, I totally get since my father-in-law was into taxidermy:
"That’s all she’s ever wanted. To get married, have babies, have a family. A normal family with a mom and a dad and a distinct lack of taxidermy animals lurking in every corner of her house."

Theo has a rather huge secret, one that can be a deal breaker in a relationship, but OMG it is the funniest thing ever. Are there these guys online?? That do what he is doing??

But Lanie:
But I never realized he could be fun and have moments of utter peace. That he ever has moments of rest. That he can be smiling with the mischief of ten thousand wood sprites one minute and washing my face of tears the next.

Theo is so good to her until he pushes her away before she can reject him (which she was not going to do) but his grovel is with kittens and is very good:
His gaze wavers as he looks at me again. “I’m really bad at hope. Much better at action.”
“And self-sabotage.”
“Not mincing words today.”
“Should I be?”

Even though I really enjoyed the dialogue in this book, there seemed to be pages and pages of them having inner talk/doubts/thoughts before the next sentence so I found myself skipping over all that extra. Emma seems to make the right choice when the straw that broke the relationship happens, so hopefully excellent things ahead for her!

The first 20% of this book was them saying the exact same stuff but from two diff POVs. It bothered me so much that I wanted to throw my kindle against a wall and be like just get to the damn point already. Even with that mess I continued….

….I should have not. That whole scene where the pig was ramming the car so much that they both orgasmed 🙄. If I could roll my eyes to the back of my head and keep them there I would.

Don’t get your hopes up for this book. I don’t understand why people are liking it so much.

In conclusion it’s the same shit repeated every couple of pages and I’m not having it

The amount of times that I laughed during this book was crazy.

Laney was brought up prim and proper always living to make everyone happy until the day she realised she needs more. That there’s more to life than living by the rules. She wants to live rather than just exist and that’s exactly what she plans to do at her best friends wedding. What she doesn’t expect is to be landed in a room she has to share with the last person on earth she would ever share anything with.

Theo, oh this man is charming and fun. He lives to have fun and pushes some boundaries. He likes to have a good time and trouble follows him everywhere unintentionally. But underneath that happy guy there’s a man who feels different from what he gives out.

From the very moment they meet in Hawaii for the wedding week I knew it was going to be fun. These two have disliked each other for as long as they can remember and watching the dislike between them has been intriguing. Watching the dislike become something close to like has been fun because these two are exactly what each other need.

Their time on the island is fun and intriguing. It’s full of mishaps, stuff going wrong and lots of drama! It’s the kind of book that will keep you hooked from page one and have you needing to know what happens next!

This author pulled out a cracker with this Enemies to Lovers romance and it brought me out of my reading slump what a bonus!

When Laney Kingston arrives in Hawaii for Emma's wedding, she is asked by Emma to
be a babysitter for her brother, Theo. Theo and Emma's fiancé, Chandler, don't get along too well and Emma just wants her dream wedding.

Laney, of course, agrees. She will do anything for her best friend. Laney has known Theo forever and always has been annoyed by his "do whatever" attitude, but also secretly jealous. Laney is a Kingston and was never really allowed to have any fun.

Theo is not pleased to have a babysitter, but he has secretly always had a thing for Laney. Maybe this vacation wedding won't be so bad for him after all.

I loved how Theo showed Laney how to let loose and have fun. He thinks that this is only a vacation fling and that Laney would never be serious about him when they return home to Colorado. Laney needs to show Theo that he is good enough and not the immature boy he was. But he is hiding a pretty big secret, which could ruin everything.

I really enjoyed this friends (sorta) to lovers, best friend's brother, dual point of view romcom. He's the bad boy and she is the good girl. I hope there are more stories with these characters--especially Emma and Sabrina. Plus, there are kittens! Lots of cute kittens.

Thank you to @rick_283 and the author for my advanced review copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Theo and Laney hate each other. And you know what they say about that thin line, right?

Since their teen years, when Laney and Theo's sister, Emma, became besties, there's been something of a rivalry between these two. It was brutal at times, leaving some pretty dense scar tissue for Laney. So when Emma plans her dream wedding to her longtime boyfriend, Chandler, on a picturesque Hawaiian island, Emma is grudgingly cast as the babysitter of troublemaking Theo. Because, for reasons we learn over the course of the novel, Theo and Chandler also have a rather strained relationship.

I will say that I began this novel quite some time ago and put it down, only coming back to it about a week ago. Why? Well, i remember that it initially felt very juvenile and I wasn't really in the mood for juvenile. It begins with Theo literally lighting himself on fire while poolside, dressed in a pink plastic flamingo costume. You can see where I might have gotten that vibe. However, I've been revisiting some novels I put down for one reason or another, to clear the decks for other things (I hate having lots of books in my "Currently Reading" queue).

When I dove back in, I was immediately drawn into the tense relationship between Theo and Plainy Laney, as he bitingly refers to her. I quickly learn that Theo saves kittens. He adores his little sister so much that be buries the hurt he must feel from being assigned a babysitter and basically shunned by the bridal party. And despite the fact that he loathes Chandler, wants so much to make his sister happy that he pays for her wedding. So, despite his goofy, over the top personality, we discover over the course of the story, as does Laney, that Theo is actually a really good person.

Laney has her own challenges to confront. The only child of driven, focused entrepreneurial parents, expectations for her future are high. And Theo isn't exactly the guy her parents would chose for their daughter. In fact, they despise him.

Many shenanigans happen as the story unfolds. From the decaying, crumbling disaster of a failing resort to the unfurling mystery of why Chandler is acting like a d*ck to the solid and steadfast relationship between these three girlfriends, Laney, Emma and Sabrina (their stories are books two and three in this trilogy).

The humor is solid and I'm super picky about good banter, so this novel gets a full star for having some excellent dialogue. It also blends hilarious slapstick with some really heartfelt moments, leaving the book feeling well balanced. This isn't anything deep, you're not here for the rich, intricately woven tapestry of storytelling but what it does, it does well. This read is full of humor and love and great friendships.

Theo and Laney's love story builds slowly. It takes time for them to discover that they don't really hate each other. It takes time for that to convert to discovering that they like each other and from there, it takes the balance of the story to learn that they've fallen in love. If you read my reviews, you'll understand how much I adore a well crafted slow burn and this one is done well. Yes, there is spice, but it never overwhelms the story and is inserted in appropriate places when the story truly calls for it.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the next two novels takes the friendship between these women because, while it's not necessarily a cliffhanger ending these ladies do leave off on a rather strained note. That's all I'll say about that as to not spoil the ending which ties into Theo and Laney's relationship.

All things considered, a really fun, fluffy, light read that I thoroughly enjoyed!

Give me all the cookies!

I read romance to get lost in the story. Some stories affect me more than others, some are just outrageous and many I simply avoid.

Friends to lovers, BFF’s brother are two tropes I enjoy. TWWD has both and more. I give credit to Pippa Grant, she has a fantastical imagination and writes creative stories. To borrow a phrase, her heroes and heroines get tangled up in some wild and crazy situations.

Theo takes the cake…. okay, the cookies, specifically chocolate chip cookies that I now must make. He talks about a “side hustle” and when the details are shared are NOT at all what I anticipated. Delaney, Laney, is a plain Jane, good girl, rule following CEO to be, who wants to break free and take a walk on the wild side. Together they do.

So much of this story would likely never happen, it’s still fun. The heart of the story is the people and the relationships. Many great messages are woven in this tale and I appreciated every one of them, while I was shaking my head at some of the tangents the characters took in their quest to give Emma the wedding of her dreams.

If you love Pippa, this is classic zaniness. If you are new to her work, just keep in mind she’ll keep you laughing while guiding her characters to their HEA and hopefully imparting some wisdom along the way.

DNF at 49%.

I’m not going to give this a star rating or review it on Amazon (where a star is required) because I don’t think that’s fair when I refuse to finish. I’m also not going to mention it on TikTok. That said, I wanted a note somewhere so I don’t try to pick this one up again.

Y’all…I TRIED!

I love Pippa Grant! The Copper Valley Fireballs series is one of my absolute favorite baseball romcom series. What I love about her writing is that she either puts strong, smart MCs in one overarching wild situation that has hilarious results OR really hilarious MCs in very realistic and kind of boring situations that they make fun. Neither is the case here. It’s completely out of control MCs in a series of completely unrealistic situations.

Spoilers that explain the ridiculousness:

Like…it’s an absolute whirlwind of completely unrealistic plot holes.

Oh, and I’m (not) sorry but the amount of sl*t shaming going on here is just…too much. I got to the answer of what the MMC’s ‘side hustle’ is…the way it’s treated as if it’s shameful by the groom and frankly everyone else who knows about it is icky. And let’s not even talk about how horrible the FMC feels for simply enjoying a little time in the MMCs lap.

Also, I just read the phrase “My d*ck high fives my nuts. She likes us.” Seriously? I’m sorry but we’ve swung way past the point of funny and landed smack dab in the middle of cringy. I’m sorry, but this one is just not for me.

Part of me wants to skim through the rest just to justify giving it one star, but that feels mean. Plus, life is too short. So, DNF. But heads up - I DO NOT recommend this book. I’m just saying.

You know, every time I think, okay Pippa really spoiled me with the last book or one of the last books (yes, Cooper Rock is still my book boyfriend, narrowly edging out Knox) so there's no way that this one can come close, she turns around and pulls out another fantastic and fabulous story.

The Worst Wedding Date is... okay how do I put this? While it had moments of hilarity, I mean, the sneeze in chapter 1 had not only me in hysterical laughter, but my husband and son as I read them the scene (more on that in a minute), the story so encapsulated how those of us who struggle with perfectionism feel- whether the expectation of perfection is placed on us by our parents like Laney feels or even if it's just us putting that pressure on ourselves.

The sneeze- Theo, dear, sweet Theo, is a loud sneezer, just like my husband which is why I had to read him the scene with the sneeze in chapter one because it's so something that would have happened to my husband. My husband was almost in tears from laughing so hard.

Theo and Delaney are in Hawaii for the wedding of Theo's sister, Emma, who is also Delaney's best friend. Theo and Delaney have never gotten along, but mostly because they don't see each other clearly. They just see what they think the other person is. So when they are forced to share a bungalow and one bed, oh how the blinders come off. As for how there's only one bed, well, you need to read this to find out because I don't know how Pippa comes up with these situations, but she does and she does it well.

I certainly hope that this won't be our last trip to Snaggletooth Creek. I mean, I need all of the ugly heiresses' stories. Trust me, if you love Pippa books, you NEED to read this one.

Thanks to @pippa.grant and @givemebookspr for an ARC copy for review.

This book is giving me life right now! It’s been a bit since I have read a RomCom and this one had me snorting out loud last night. (It was the zombie pig that had me going)

This one have a is a bit of everything:

💕Best friends brother
🖤Opposites attract
💕Forced proximity
🖤Bad boy/Good girl
💕RomCom
🖤Spice
💕Destination wedding

This was my first time reading this author and I will check her out again for sure.
There were some parts that I felt the wording was off but I’m not sure if it was just me or not.

Theo is absolutely book boyfriend material and I absolutely fell for him. This “bad boy” who loves life and just happens to have bad things happen to him no matter where he goes, had me hooked. He has the biggest heart and does so many kind things for others without their knowledge. He has always had others looking down on him and judging him and still, he is kind and humble and amazing.
Can you tell, I swooned for him?
After everything is uncovered about him and all his secrets are out, I fell for him that much harder.

Laney was our reserved, play it safe and by the rules heroine who just wants to live life and start having fun.
Her first attempt at letting loose was a bit of a laughable disaster after to many Mai tais but she didn’t let that stop her.
She starts to see the world a bit clearer and that’s when she really starts to come into her own.

I enjoyed watching these two start to discover each other in a new, less judgemental light and start to life each other up.

I would give this one a 3.5/4 star.
I received an arc for an honest review.

Longest it’s taken me in awhile to finish a book. Didn’t want to finish but felt compelled.

This book never grabbed me, couldn’t connect with the characters, and overall it was so chaotic with all the characters backstories and dramatics.

What happened with Emma? Why did we not learn about Sabrina’s ONS until the last 5 pages? Wtf was that weird non-resolution with Laneys parents.

UGHHHHHH wish I had DNF’d because I’m just annoyed now, but oh well, on to the next. Just glad it was free through KU otherwise I’d be extremely annoyed.

This is my second book reading by author Ms. Grant and I guess the ratings are still the same. Not sure what it is but I will still give this author another try on other books. This three BFFS and a wedding went south at 50% into the story. I couldn't connect and thought it was not work pushing to the end. It seemed to be a good read but I thought the characters were not my cup of tea. Maybe its me on this one but I DNF. One day may be a re-read but for now...not going to move on the next.

Decent

I mean it was good story but for some reason I wasn't feeling it. Parts I enjoyed but like Planey Laney why does no one really work with her to dispel that? And not eating is called a disorder so probably ought to have had a little more attention. Also I'd really like to see a grand gesture which I didn't really feel happened. And there were a lot of awkward moments for Laney which I wasn't a fan of because I'm a second hand awkward person so I just felt bad for her instead of seeing the humor. It wasn't a bad story but I just don't think it worked for me as a reader.

I have been in a serious book funk. Such a funk, in fact, that I, the blogger who normally reads 3-4 books a week, haven't read a book in three weeks. I was just frustrated. And then a new Pippa book came out. I love Pippa books, and they've never failed to dazzle me in the past, so I didn't hesitate to snatch this baby up and read it. And guess what? Book. Funk. Over. I loved this story. Well, at first, I didn't like Delaney very much because she was such a stick in the mud. (And my dislike of her was disheartening, to say the least, because I have to admit that I am a lot like her in many ways.) What I loved most about this story wasn't the two characters falling in love with each other--it was more about them finding out who they want to be and learning to love themselves (especially in Delaney's case; Theo was mostly there). Well, that and kittens. Okay, the kittens were my favorite, and then that part about telling the world to bite you and being the person you want to be. In a book funk? Read this book. Need to smile and laugh until your face hurts? Read this book. Just want to enjoy a really, really good story? Quit reading this review and read this book. ;-)

This started off promising - I liked the idea of former high school enemies coming together to help a disaster of a destination wedding go smoothly and there were some funny moments, but, in the end, I wasn’t a big fan of either Laney or Theo. They were both too much — Laney too much the goody goody girl and Theo too much the messed up bad boy. Yes, there was a story of personal growth and each trying to be be more true to themselves rather than living up/down to high school expectations, but Laney was pushing 30 and still pretty boring and too worried about what her parents thought and Theo … it seemed he was able to become self-sufficient and successful more through luck than anything else. The whole opposites attract idea doesn’t always work and I didn’t get why they liked each other. They never were particularly nice to each other. Also, the idea that Theo could get so rich so fast from his side hustle or that he’d be recognized or that anyone would care about his identity … well, struck me as unrealistic.

DNF at 32%.

This has none of Pippa’s usual magic and was a complete disappointment. It is repetitive and boring and badly needs a good editor to go through it with a red pen. There is so much time spent on interpreting tones of voice and facial expressions and it breaks up the flow and makes it a chore to get through.

The scene where the MMC wakes up holding himself and accuses the FMC of it because his hand is asleep is just beyond bizarre and nonsensical.

The reasons MMC can’t sleep in the second bedroom make no sense. The MMC needing a babysitter makes 0 sense. It’s all just off.

I’m going to go reread one of Pippa’s hockey ones so I can pretend this never happened.

Pippa Grant is the freakin QUEEN of romcoms. Theo and Laney are oil and water. It seems that there’s no way they’ll mix, that they’re just too different. In usual Pippa fashion, we’re treated to a story that’s absolutely hilarious, interesting, entertaining, and completely filled with characters that I just cannot get enough of. I’m SO excited to read Sabrina’s story!
