Five lessons in pleasure. One lesson in love.

Fraser MacGregor, thirteenth Duke Molineux, seizes the opportunity to use the title he unexpectedly inherited, to further his whisky business. He leaves his Highland home and heads for London where he's accosted by a feisty lass, who smashes a vase over his head.

Delilah Hart should be relishing her first London season. But she'd rather be a writer than a bland society wife. Her secret occupation of writing anonymous, inflammatory articles about the notorious Molineux family, is the first step to realizing her dream.

But when the new duke makes her an offer she can't refuse—to learn about her cause for social justice in exchange for five lessons in the art of pleasure—she begins to question her beliefs and desires. Before long, Delilah realizes that her heart, as well as her career, is at stake.

Delilah Hart should be relishing her first London season. But she’d rather be a writer than a bland society wife. Her secret occupation of writing anonymous, inflammatory articles about the notorious Molineux family, is the first step to realizing her dream.

Will she open her eyes in time ...

This is my first read by the author and while I thought at first the hero a bit too much of everything, lusty, ornery, haughty.
He is in fact so much more than first his appearance and words say about him.
He might be recklessly forthright, but he is a kind and generous soul, he is no liar and so honorable that even betrayed and short of funds, he feels honor bond to fulfill a promise done.
And it is true how looks can be deceiving. At the beginning I liked Delilah until she presented herself as a doormat and a ninny, not understanding the significance of what she let do. She believes she is her own right but does not even fight for her prose, letting others rewrite it to their personal gain.
Worse, she discredits all aristocratie because she hold a grudge against some but a few is not all.
Sure a woman has not the same power and freedom (which at this time were equal to zero), but she should have owned her ideas and fought for them if she believed they were used the wrong way. Plus by hiding her deeds, it was a disaster in waiting. I was wondering when the second shoe would drop.

And while I was not fond of the heroine, it is her coming of age tale, she learns from her mistakes, and find out the right path is not always the easy one.
I am now very curious about her siblings from her two opposite brothers, the sister that fights for her like a lioness and the absent one.

Nothing better to start your day than with a good cup of coffee and a book, with a big, braw, lusty, Scottish Duke.

Fraser is the Duke and he’s got it all, he handsome, own business, Scottish Castle, he’s got a way with words that will melt your Kindle, and the goods to follow it up to.

Delilah is a strong willed woman, he brothers a Banker, she has a good head on her shoulders, she’s independent and knows what she wants out of life, she also is about to fall for the one man that she should keep far away from, Fraser.

I really enjoyed this book, such a lot going on and it keeps your attention very well.
I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series, if it’s like Emily’s others it promises to be brilliant.

Oh dear. This was dreadful. Attempting to be some sort of Outlander fan fiction sent this book straight into the garbage. Delilah was clearly a Regency era version of Claire (independence, women’s rights, etc) and the author wasn’t even creative with the male name of Fraser. I can’t keep from rolling my eyes even as I write this! Outlander isn’t really that good to begin with so trying to do a twist on it is beneath this author.

I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

From the first few chapters, I was put off by Delilah's gratuitous aggressiveness and propensity to lash out, and Fraser's blatant sexual overtures bordering on boorishness. I could not get into the story nor connect with the characters. I do not mind arrogant heroes and churlish heroines, however, in this instance the combination was a disaster and sometimes painful to read.

Woohoo! Another fabulous offering from the pen of Emily Royal. I love a strong, determined hero who gets stopped in his tracks by a feisty heroine. Even better if that hero is a muscular Scot who makes one weak at the knees!
Despite her prejudices, the heroine, Delilah, is persuaded to overcome her inherent dislike of the aristocracy. Well, who wouldn’t, with the delicious Fraser MacGregor to spar with? And there are plenty of other intriguing characters adding colour to the story—I can’t wait to meet them again in future stories. Ahhh- Fraser MacGregor. Not just a Scot, but a duke too- my dreams will be sweet tonight!

Fraser MacGregor, Duke of Molineux unexpectedly inherited the title.  Unfortunately, said title has passed through some very disreputable hands and is thoroughly disgraced.  Fraser didn't really want the title but maybe it can be used to help his business interests. Our hero is a typical brash and bold Highlander who gives no quarter to dishonesty.

Miss Delilah Hart is an intelligent and independent young woman who is not frightened of airing her views on equality. Although her brother is a very wealthy Banker the upper crust in London society still look down on them, unless they are looking for a loan.  Our heroine is a frustrated poet who wants her poems printed. Her other writings may have unexpected consequences.

This story is lots of fun with some naughty but very lovable characters.  There is a lot of heat simmering under the surface but it's not explicit in language. I very much look forward to reading the next book in the series which I expect to be about Dexter and his lady.

I loved it.

Yowza! What the Hart Wants Indeed! The first time Lilah met him, she hit him with an urn filled with the ashes of one of his ancestors! When he opened his eyes "he senses were assaulted by the most striking blue she'd ever seen... she would have believed him a gift from the gods."

Of course Fraser MacGregor, now thirteenth Duke of Molineux, was a braw Scot and to say his and Lilah's first meeting was a little explosive, well.... needless inflammatory is more like it!

Lilah has a fierce disregard for the Aristocracy and dislikes the Molineux line most of all. But she and Fraser may just strike a bargain and who knows how it will come out!

Don't miss this first in a series tale that will have you enthralled!!

What the Hart Wants, by Emily Royal. Oh my gosh! I am absolutely madly in love with this book. Did you hear me? Let me say it another way.
I - am - Unequivocally- head over heels- in love with this book. This story reminded me of what it’s like to read a tremendously, wonderful historical romance novel. The writing was fluid. I didn’t find the book boring with informational details that are relevant to the plot. The verbiage, I thought was timid.
I didn’t find myself mulling over what the writer was trying to convey to the readers. The dialogue was direct and to the point. With considerable amount of ease the book reads at a satisfying pace. The drama was so, so powerful. It was the star of the book.
That being said, I am absolutely in love with this book! Thank you to the author. Thank you to whom ever for providing this writer with the amazing talent of writing and telling a genuinely, touch your soul love story. This book hit every mark at being a “Super Star”! Hands down, it’s the best!
The book has characters who work hard at their ambitions of being a success. Others, that fight for the rights and equality for both men and women. Occasionally there are unintentional heartaches. Secrecies behind closed doors and hidden meanings in wording. Vindictive villains who sharpen their claws, ready to strike at their opponents once their back has turned.
Overprotective siblings whose words are like ice from the Highland mountains. Then there is the unspeakable love that is not only passionate but sensually stimulating. These moments are often times exquisite ecstasies that will have you eyeing your partner over the brim of your book. Fraser and Lilah certainly gave me a story to remember. Both characters affection for one another was so genuine and real. When these two are together it’s like a delectable treat. Lilah, is a smart, brilliant woman whose not afraid to stand up to any person. She stares down all her challenges and fights them head on. Fraser has away of whispering erotic things to Lilah that makes her body turn to clay. Pleased with how he can unwind Lilah, Fraser wickedly uses his Scottish hands to mold Lilah’s body into cry’s of pleasure.
I’m giving this book two snaps and another two snaps. I would say, “and a twist”, but after reading this review, you may get some naughty ideas. Anywhoo, I freaking loved the book. Until next time my fellow readers… read on!

The first book in the Headstrong Harts series, What the Hart Wants follows Delilah Hart, a young woman determined to carve her own path in a male-dominated society. Published in a local paper under a male pseudonym, Lilah critiques the aristocracy, especially the detestable Molineux family, who has a history of corrupt behavior.

When Lilah meets the newest Duke of Molineux, sparks fly. Irresistibly drawn to each other, Fraser and Lilah begin to questions their beliefs, goals, and feelings. Can this couple have a future when secrets, lies, and other obstacles stand in their way?

Messages of empowerment, learning and growing, and fighting for what you believe in are strong in this story, as is the romance! Fraser and Lilah have so much chemistry, and as Fraser teaches Lilah the ways of love, their feelings intensify. Of course, secrets, prejudices, overbearing brothers, and jealous competition get in the way of a potential future, and the pair must decide if their feelings are worth fighting for.

Another aspect of the novel that I really like is the representation of strong, intelligent women who skillfully maneuver through an inequitable society to live their best lives. Delilah writes under a male pseudonym so that her ideas will be published. Though this leads to some heartache, Delilah learns how powerful her voice is. Delilah’s sister and Fraser’s mother also take leadership roles in their families, empowering themselves in a world that offers them less because of their gender.

A sexy enemies-to-lovers historical romance, What the Hart Wants is a great start to the series. I look forward to reading more about the Hart’s in future books. Thanks so much to Netgalley and Drangonblade Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

What the Hart Wants follows Delilah Hart during her first season, though she has no intention of following her rich brother's orders, and marrying someone titled just for the prestige. She is all about equality, feminism, and very much against the horrific and notorious Molineux family. So when she comes across the newest Duke, Fraser MacGregor, and is instantly attracted, she is completely angry. Fraser, for his part, never expected to inherit the title, and the feisty little terrier her meets in his rundown London home takes his breath away. He wants to get close to Lilah, and show her what pleasure just is, while also furthering his family's whiskey making business, and becoming solvent. The letters being penned by the mysterious Mr Smith, though, may just cause problems for the both of them.

As soon as I saw this book advertised on NetGalley, I requested it, because both the cover and synopsis immediately drew me in. I enjoyed the romance between Lilah and Fraser, and especially the moments between the two up in the Highlands at Fraser's family estate. They were both really good characters, with fleshed out back stories, and I'm definitely intrigued by the other Hart siblings we have either met, or remained off page. The other love interests, Jennifer and Thomas, were slimy and written in a way that made it obvious they were in it for the money or title, or both, and there was nothing redeemable about them across the board. All in all, a quick read, and solid foundation for a new series.

I have a weakness for Scottish Dukes and this one is just added to my list. TheI like strong hero/and heroines and we have that with both here. Fraser is like the perfect man he has literally everything going for him and to top it off he is just hot. Then we meet Delilah who is no slouch she is a woman we can respect and in that era that was not easy to do, or to be accepted luckily for her she meets Fraser and these two will melt your kindle or nooks or whatever you are fortunate to read on .enjoy!.

Highland Heart

Delilah's family is noveau riche, and so her brother, Dexter, wishes her to marry a title. She cares little for the aristocracy and is ardent in her pursuit of fairness for women and the poor.
Fraser is unexpectedly made a Duke, and encounters Lilah at his London home. Thus begins a friendship and a romance threatened by her secret.
Interesting and intriguing, with a villain who appears benign. Very enjoyable.

What the Hart Wants is the first book in the Headstrong Harts #1 series by Emily Royal. It is a love story filled with passion and desire.

Delilah Hart is preparing for her first London season but she has no intention of marrying despite her brother expecting her to secure a title for the family. The Hart family did not come from money and their success is the result of their brother's hard work. Unfortunately, some members of society still shun the Harts because of this. For this reason, Delilah's brother wants her to marry a man with a title and live a comfortable life. Delilah is too head strong for such a thing. She would rather write poetry and essays including inflammatory articles about the famous Molineux family.

Fraser MacGregor has just inherited the dukedom and is now the thirteenth Duke Molineux. He must reluctantly leave his home in the Highlands to get his new home in London in order. While in London, Fraser plans to secure a loan for his whiskey business now that making and selling whiskey is legal. Seducing Delilah was not part of his London plans.

I was in love with this story from the beginning. Delilah is the type of woman who has no problem speaking her mind even if it goes against what is expected of a young woman in London's high society. But, she did not come from money so who can blame her? The way that she is so open and honest is what draws Fraser to her in the first place though.

Fraser doesn't fall in love. He's no stranger to the company of women but he doesn't fall in love, and especially not now when all these women seem to only see his title and not him. When he runs into Delilah he welcomes her honestly and there is a lot of fun banter between the two. Banter that turns into desire.

The two end up making a deal that involves Delilah visiting Fraser's home in Scotland and Fraser teaching Delilah the arts of pleasure. In exchange, Fraser will help Delilah with her poetry and social causes. Delilah's brother, who made his fortune through banking, only agrees to the arrangement if his sister can spy on the highlander's whiskey business.

This story pulled me in from the beginning. We start off with this strong willed heroine and a brash Scot butting heads. Yet, neither can deny the lust between them. I thought both of the characters were very well developed. Each had an interesting back story and each were similar in the fact that they were still considered outsiders by the ton. Fraser was still seen as a Scot by many despite his title and Delilah was still seen as an outsider because she was not born with money. It feel like this dynamic worked nicely in their relationship.

I also really enjoyed the passionate scenes between Fraser and Delilah. The author did a great job building up to Fraser's five lessons in the art of pleasure. Delilah did annoy me a little bit at times, but overall I really enjoyed the book and the romance.

I am really curious about the other siblings of the Hart family though. The author did a great job setting up the family and hinting at family drama. I need to read about the other siblings now!

About the book:
Delilah Hart is a young woman in her first season in London; she has high hopes of independence, though her family wishes to see her advantageously married. She wishes one day to be a writer, going so far as to offer essays to the local paper under a penname. Fraser MacGregor, recently named 13th Duke Molineux, has dreams of furthering his whiskey business, and hopes to use his new title to help in that regard. When the two meet, Delilah has already decided to hate the Duke, but their chemistry is unmistakable. It would be untoward for their relationship to be anything more than civil (and sometimes uncivil) conversation. But the heart wants what it wants.

TL;DR:
- 3 stars
- Content warnings: allusion to "horrible event" between Delilah and previous Duke, ruination
- Quick read, not super engaging or interest-keeping for me. Worth reading if you're into sexy historicals and a little verbal tussle between the leads.

Loved:
- Delilah starts off as a character passionate about her independence and women's rights, which is awesome. I don't read a ton of historical romance, but I love a fiery lead!
- Love the idea of a lead who knows what she wants (in love and sex), in a time period that technically this would not be okay.
- Fraser is pretty cool. He's compassionate, a "good man," cares about his mother deeply. He's a bit crass, generally, and definitely butts up against Delilah, but I actually came out liking him a bit more than her (😬).

Less into:
- Delilah loses her independence and bullheadedness literally exactly when she meets Fraser. Which is fine, like, it's happened before and will happen again! But she's SO adamant that she's not like other women, etc. etc., and then she literally is. She does whatever Fraser asks (under the guise of some sexual liberation), she doesn't fight back against her editor, she allows a clearly horrible man's advances, etc.
- A lot of detail I felt was lacking, like I could've stood to know more about Delilah's parents or the incident that occurred, or how her brother made his money. Felt like I was missing critical details the whole time.
- The time-period accurate sexual nature of the men in this book was off-putting. I am not averse to sex in books, it's just that it felt like every chapter we were reminded that it is ABSOLUTELY kosher for men to sleep around, while women cannot, or fear ruination. And then it would describe or otherwise introduce the various mistresses. Just like, odd? Maybe I don't read enough of this genre, lol. But why waste time on that information when there is a plot to be had?

Overall alright. Quick with a nice little happy ending.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Just a short back story… I read mostly historical proper or Christian romance. In most of my books the characters hardly ever kiss. But I need to widen my author and publisher list so I thought I would try something a little different but still historical romance. That is how I came to read What the Hart Wants by Emily Royal. Once I started reading the first few chapters I was thinking, well this is not Christian or proper but I am going to read this and see how I like it.
This book was very exciting and couple of times I found myself blushing!! I was able to relate to Lilah not wanting to be married like every other society girl and wanting to have a career first. But just takes meeting the right man to turn your world upside down.
I find myself excited about the next two books in the series as I believe they will be about Thea and possibly the other sister that they only mentioned a couple of times. I also found myself looking for other books by Emily Royal. I am so very happy I decided to try something a little outside of my typical reading. I would really recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance that shows the racy side of the early 1800s then you will really love this well written novel.

Full of heated discovery & brimming with heart!

Emily Royal has crafted a well written tale about having the strength to discover oneself, find your rightful place and ultimately allow yourself to be happy about who you are. With cleverly entangling dialogue, sensual intimacy and intriguingly beguilling characters this tale absorbed my attention and thrust me into a family I am very eager to learn more about.
By the strength of her convictions, blinded by her prejudices and afraid to succumb to her passions for fear of being a hypocrite to the first. Delilah meets the newly appointed Duke and Whisky distiller Fraser and naïvely falls prey to her misperceptions as fireworks fly. However, his magnetic allure keeps sucking her back and may just force her to reconsider. From their first explosively audacious introduction, Delilah and Fraser's attraction and connection so boldly simmers beneath the surface. Bringing together two soulmates with the potential to bring out the best in each other, if only the schemes of others didn't darken their building intimacy and blooming love. Let the fun explorations and heated discoveries begin!
Delilah is a slave to her emotions and feisty in her principles for equality but lost in her need to find a balance between both. Whereas, the charismatic Fraser, not ashamed of embracing pleasure wholeheartedly is determined to awaken Delilah from her need to starve herself of such pleasures for fear of being labelled a hypocrite.
I really loved picking apart Delilah and Fraser and being allowed to delve deeper into their convictions, dreams and desires as they are both so much more that they appear on the surface. Fraser isn't the brash, uncaring, savage he is thought to be thanks to the unsavoury history of his debauched Duke ancestors and prejudices about his Scottish origins and Delilah isn't the bold hoyden her emotional impetuous outbursts would suggest, just floundering to be heard as she fights for her right to make her own decisions.
I absolutely loved this tale it was so emotionally ensnaring and interwoven with such heart, wit, relatable vulnerability and heated deliciousness I just couldn't look away.
Onto book 2 and I'm really looking forward to it!!!

What the Hart Wants by Emily Royal is a refreshingly different Highland romance. Delilah Hart grew up in a middle-class-to-poor home Thanks to her brother's efforts, they are now wealthy; he is a financial genius and astute businessman. None-the-less, the ton wants not part of them. The snobs are out in force. There are only a few who bank with him or will be seen socially with him. He wants a titled husband for Delilah; she could care less. She's not sure she wants a husband at all. She is a writer. She has a successful series of articles appearing in a newspaper under a pseudonym, as well as a book of poetry in the works. She is often to be found at Clayton House, a crumbling ruin that had been the home of the Molineux, a degenerate family of dukes, one after another, and bad to their cores. She came to look after the birds left unattended in the aviary. They had become her own. Fraser McGregor, the new duke, arrives at the house curious as to who is in it. She surprises him by hitting him in the head with an urn (containing the ashes of a much earlier duke). It was an inauspicious meeting for what would become a remarkable relationship.

This was a compelling book about two extremely interesting people, both stubborn and proud. Their circumstances were complicated by outside forces motivated by, what else, money. He taught her about pleasure; she taught him about independence. The setting was primarily London, but her introduced her to the Highlands, with which she fell immediately in love. Despite his anger, he shopped her poetry around until he found a buyer and she became a published poet. She had friends who care about her welfare; he didn't. He only had a protective mother and a woman who chased him for years. He did have a cadre of loyal employees; loyal because of hoe he treated them. They were an interesting and challenging couple whose story is full of twists and turns. It was a charming and enticing read, full of good humor and falling in love. I recommend it.

Delilah Hart is a strong-willed young woman. She wants to be independent, able to take care of herself. She believes aggressively in equality. She is a frustrated poet who is earning money while she waits to publish her poetry by writing inflammatory essays about the aristocracy in general and the Molineux line in particular. Fraser MacGregor is handsome, owns a Scottish castle, and runs his own business. He didn’t expect, nor did he particularly want to be the thirteenth Duke Molineux, but that’s what he is. Fraser believes that his new status will help him maintain and expand his whisky distillery and allow him to distribute his product in England. When he comes to London, he finds Delilah inside the library of his townhouse, and sparks fly, not the romantic kind at first. Before long, it is the romantic kind, and the chemistry is hot. She accuses him of not caring about those less fortunate than he, and he tells her she needs to learn about the pleasure life offers. The Duke makes a deal with her. He will learn about her charity work, and he will teach her five lessons in pleasure. Sounds interesting. How will it work out?

This is an excellent beginning for a new series. There are five siblings, and future stories promise to be interesting. In this first story we have a feisty, impetuous, opinionated heroine with good intentions and a caring heart. The hero is just about everything a hero should be – handsome, smart, caring and generous, and he enjoys life’s pleasures. The story is engaging and the characters compelling (not all are likeable). There are some secrets that could make finding a happy ending difficult. I look forward to the other stories in this series. In this one, Fraser and Lilah enjoy five lessons in pleasure, an interesting incident involving a granite boulder, and one awesome lesson in love. This is a good one. I recommend it.

I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Lilah is a very strong woman, she has known poverty and now that she has money, all she wants is to write and publish her poems and her a women’s shelter. What she did not know she wanted was pleasure. And that is where Fraser comes in. Lilah was a satisfying character to read, she actually goes after her writing career and succeeds even if it is not the way she wants. She is constantly defying her brother to prioritize what she wants but she can be a bit naïve, she believes something and that is the right thing, no discussion. When Fraser enters her life, she realizes that life can be more.
Fraser is a Highlander that has inherited a dukedom, and now is The Duke of Molineux. With the title, he plans to make his whiskey business a success. He believes he has everything he needs, but in the first encounter with Lilah, he realizes he now wants her. Fraser was a delight to read, he is very true (I don’t know if that makes sense to you). He lives his life, takes care of his mom, has the occasional mistress, and doesn’t care for the aristocrats. He loves being a Highlander and that is what he will always be.
The relationship was great, it was not fast passed, and you could see their trust and relationship building during the book. Also loved that the end was not rushed, and the conflict was meaningful and not only miscommunication. The only reason this romance is not getting 5 stars is because there was a little too much info-dumping about politics and the whiskey business, but it is totally necessary for the story.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series!!!

Fraser MacGregor never expected to be the thirteenth Duke Molineux, but seizes the opportunity to use the title to further his whisky business. He leaves his Highland home and heads for London & on entering his townhouse he’s accosted by a feisty lass, who smashes a vase over his head. Delilah Hart should be relishing her first London season. But she’d rather be a writer than a bland society wife. Her secret occupation of writing anonymous, inflammatory articles about the notorious Molineux family, is the first step to realizing her dream of having her poems published. when the new duke makes her an offer she can’t refuse—to learn about her cause for social justice in exchange for five lessons in the art of pleasure—she begins to question her beliefs and desires.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author & thoroughly enjoyed it. It was well written & the pace was good all the way through. The characters had depth & I really liked all bar two. Oh Fraser a brawny Scot who was so honourable & caring, he even kept his word when things were difficult for him. I really liked Lilah but keeping secrets is never going to end well. I loved the chemistry between the pair & also their verbal bantering. I look forward to the other four siblings having their HEAs, Dex’s was vaguely referred to , just enough to whet my appetite. My only quibble was that two horrible characters walked away scot free (pardon the pun) I would have loved for them to have had their comeuppance
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A historical romance novel that makes you forget time the moment you start reading it.
I got a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book follows the story of Delilah Hart and Fraser Macgregor. Delilah is a very likable character. Her ideas are ahead of time, she’s a feminist who believes in equality and has a very strong personality. Fraser is a Scottish duke who is trying to further his whisky business in London where he meets Delilah. He’s immediately attracted to her but there are some obstacles in their way. He makes a deal with her, he learns her about pleasure and she teaches him about social justice and equality.
This was the first historical novel I have ever read and I have so many regrets of not reading them earlier. I was sceptical that I wouldn’t be able to really get into the story because it’s not really relatable but I was wrong. The moment I opened this book I couldn’t let it go. Not one time while reading this book was I getting bored. I think this is an easy read and I definitely recommend it (You need to be able to stand the passionate scene’s though).
I can’t compare it to other historical novels but if you’re thinking about reading a historical romance novel but you don’t know if it’s for you. I recommend reading it.
And I’m so excited to read the sequel when it comes out. 😊

A sexy Scot (don't tell anyone he's actually kind of sweet and sensitive) and a headstrong and feisty Lady combust on the page at the beginning, but fizzle somewhat by the end.

I loved the quick witted banter, especially at the beginning when Fraser MacGregor and Delilah Hart first meet. Fraser is a dirty talking Scot, so be prepared for lots of sexual innuendoes and overtones inserted into many of his conversations. This was fun for a bit, but became somewhat tedious. Delilah is a feminist and wants to fight for equality, but hasn't really gotten into the trenches yet to make a difference. I thought she had more bark than bite. The steamy scenes were open door, but I thought there was a bit of chemistry missing between Fraser and Delilah. Suspend your disbelief, if you're a stickler for following the conventional society rules of the time, your skin may crawl (things like an unmarried young woman going to Scotland just to visit a man just seemed like a big no-no).

What the Hart Wants is the first book in the Headstrong Harts series. I love family series! This book kept me entertained enough to want to definitely check out other books by this author. I was especially interested in Delilah's brother, the Duke.

Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Overall, a good historical romance with the ruggedness of a Scottish male lead in English society. Offering up beautiful Scottish landscapes, whiskey distilleries and no ballrooms, this is good for people who prefer to read on the fringes of society rather with social graces taking centre stage.

While I am a fan of unexpected pregnancy tropes, I'll admit I found it cluttered this particular plot line more than I felt was necessary. I felt like the second half of the plot was stretched to meet pregnancy timelines and would have preferred to focus on the intrigue not the ruination elements.

The other element I didn't particularly enjoy was the banking and economic politics of the book. Based around the concept of Lilah Hart's brother being a ruthless banker I found the fixation on profit and money annoying. Counterbalanced slightly with depictions of charity, charitable work arrangements and worker entitlements such as sick leave, I still found the book irritating in its fixation on capitalism elements.

The start of this book made me expect a book slightly steamier than it was. There was a fairly consistent smattering of steamy content, but somehow I felt the dirty, ruggedness of the opening never got followed through on.

3.25 STARS

When neither character grabs or holds your interest it’s hard to enjoy the story. The h came across as it is her way or the highway. She sets out to ruin the H because he came from a long line of awful men. Even after she gets to know him, she still causes him ruin. She is suppose to be intelligent. But, when the editor says he is still going to publish her story HIS way, she doesn’t see the harm it would cause?

The H is a rutting fool. He takes the h’s innocence with no thought of any consequences. He is not very smart in business either.

I didn’t feel a connection to this couple. First you have to like and respect them. The author tries to get us to like them by giving then a cause to help, but it didn’t help me feel different.

There is minor typo, but nothing bad. There is lovemaking and stuff outside of marriage that was more lust, descriptive and heat level 4.5 out of 5. I didn’t think there was romance either.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, main and secondary character’s lacked warmth, no romance and plenty of steam. (ljb)

I don't think this author writes to my tastes!

Too many overbearing, arrogant, asshole men with no personalities. Who comment on thrashing woman, who have an opinion & aren't biddable. The men also tend to leer, especially the hero Fraser. He's crude, handsy & acts like a dog on heat. Really not appealing!

The woman also lack personalities, a bit like cardboard cut outs. The heroine Delilah, harps on, a little too on the modern side, about woman's rights. While acting like a petulant brat. Delilah also seems to allow herself, to be drawn in, by the manipulative way Fraser goes about seducing her, an innocent for his own pleasure. He practically slobbers all over her in public.

Fraser challenges Delilah to be strong & decisive. When she is, he just bends her to his will. Cause he wants what he wants. I mean the men in this book, are the kind of men you give a wide berth if you can. Especially, in a time when the slightest thing could ruin a woman. Force her into a marriage with someone who owns her, who she couldn't divorce.

Not my cup of tea this one!
