POWER, those who have it reap great rewards…and pay a great price.

DUTY, the little-known strength behind every vampire lord’s rule.

LOVE, stronger than power, and the true root of all duty.

Vampire Lord Raphael has seen North America’s vampire rulers united, and Europe’s defeated. He and his mate Cynthia have spent years achieving that, fighting everyone else’s battles, along with their own. Now, all they want is a vacation. A getaway to someplace romantic and secluded. No guards, no supplicants, no phones—just the two of them with their deep love and endless desire for each other.

If only they hadn’t taken a quick detour to that particular town. Because they soon discover that vampires are dead, and another is missing. And it’s Raphael’s duty to serve justice to the wronged and vengeance upon the guilty, regardless of his plans.

It turns out there really is no rest for the wicked.

There is no denying that I am indeed obsessed with Raphael.

First read review:
A cute short novella that had both action and hot sex. It was great seeing Raphael again, and of course Cyn, but mostly Raphael. I love Raphael, you see.

Cute and fun!
A short story anout Cyn trying to take Raphael on a brief vacation without his or hers bodyguards and miserably failing because of an emergency due to a "we hate vampires" group.

Cyn and Raphael plan to go on a long awaited and well deserved couples' getaway but a vampire lord's duty is never done and there's an unexpected detour and justice to dispense before they can enjoy themselves.

Where there is great power, there is great responsibility and no rest for the wicked!

I just love Cyn and Raphael's relationship and how it gets tested and they always manage to exceed my expectations of their love and commitment to each other. They are so open and emotionally vulnerable with each other, as well as hot and adorably romantic as a couple. When challenged by an enemy, they are bloody scary in a fight and ferocious in protecting each other and those they love.

They are one of my favourite UF couples!

"I'm going to call our future prison inmate, to see if I can find out where this meeting is."
"Don't know why you think he'll end up in prison. I've never known Raphael to take prisoners."
"He takes prisoners. They just don't stay that way very long."

***

I guess it is hard to get away from it all when you're the baddest Vampire Lord in America and possibly the world. I'm surprised that Raphael has allowed anti-vampire sentiments to flourish in his own territory!

This was pretty good. It was nice to see Cyn actually act like a human with emotions and to see her not running head first into danger. (I'm so glad she learned that lesson.) Nothing too huge goes down, but I always love to see Raphael's power and what he does to those that mess with his people.

This little short starts with Cyn finally being able to take Raphael away from the estate for a little "vacation" with just the two of them. She just wanted some alone time with him, and who can blame her considering all of the demands on his time. Along the way when they stop for gas, one of Raphael's vampires approaches them for help. Vampires in his community have stated suspiciously disappearing and the newest one was a big softy that does more for others than himself. Needless to say, their trip takes a little detour. Huh. Guess that's where the title comes in. It's not hard to find the vampire purge leader, though it turns out he was only the front man. The real leader being a power hungry killer who got what he deserved in the end. In beautiful Raphael fashion. Oh, and they even still managed to get a little time away afterwards.

This was a short fun read about Raphael and Cyn. If you don't know these two characters, then do yourself a favor and go pick up Raphael. He'll be your next 'book boyfriend'. Trust me. He's a serious badass that can do things I haven't seen in a vampire novel before, which was awesome. He meets his match when he hires Cynthia/Cyn. The dance these two go through to become a couple and stay a couple is wonderful to watch.

Absolutely love the series

This is one of my all time favorite series. I fell in love with Raphael and Cyn in the first book and have loved every story since then. This is a short novella. Cyn attempts to take them on a short vacation where it can just be the two of them together. They stop for gas and meet up with a local vampire who needs their help. Vampires are disappearing in the town and it's up to Cyn and Raphael to find out why. Excellent reading.

Excellent Read!

I Love anything Cyn and Raphael; Including this read! I enjoyed reading how Cyn planned out "another" vacation just for her and Raphael and again, something happens! But, good things came from this attempt at a vacation! I know everyone that reads this book will enjoy it! I will definitely recommend it to others!

Can’t catch a break!

I love this couple. Cyn and Raphael are so bad azz separately and together they look out for the people Raphael is sworn to protect. A whole network of vampires want to look out for Cyn but she wants some alone time with her man. Reluctantly she puts the vacation on hold to solve the disappearances and get her man.

A shorty to be certain, but the perfect glimpse into both sides of the uber vamp, Raphael.

Can we all just take a moment to thank the stars, the Muse and the author, that Raphael most definitely does NOT glitter??

4.0 - 4.5 ***

Cyn and Raphael are always a good read. I liked the story although Cyn's tough girl routine is getting old. I'd like to see Cyn's softer side instead of her getting harder with each book.

A nice little revisit with my favorite couple, but I really missed Cyn kicking butt. Plus, where was the follow through with the other names given and since when does Cyn need to run away from the messy stuff!?

Love these Cyn and Raphael novella's. Vampires In America is one of the best vampire romance series around. Cyn and Raphael are my favorite vampire/human couple. If you have not read The Vampire In America series, you are really missing out. D.B. Reynolds has hit it out of the park, again.

This is so cool. I do enjoy those characters. They always get into something. I like how they get into something but ask for help when it is needed.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed revisiting Cyn and Raphael, though found the ‘to be continued’ a bit strange at the end. Found the story itself less than engaging.
