My name is Piper Williams, and in three weeks I’m going to die.

The summer after Senior Year should be all parties and fun, but for me, the world is about to change. Determined to break out of my reclusive shell and move past the trauma of my father’s unexpected death, I take a job at Camp Shadow Lake, a place where nothing is what it seems.

Every counselor is beautiful and aloof, including Levi Kass—who is as hot as he is hostile. I don’t know what I did to make him hate me, but he seems to want to eat me alive. How can someone so gorgeous be so menacing?

But hot-as-hell Levi, with his dark stares and spine-tingling glances, is the least of my worries. A year ago, someone or something killed my father, and the more time I spend at Camp Shadow Lake, the more clues I find.

They say it was a bear attack. Bear attack, my ass. Something much more insidious killed my father, and it might be hiding out near Shadow Lake.

When I go looking for answers, I experience a shocking vision—one that shows me my days are numbered.

Someone is going to kill me, and I need to figure out who before it’s too late. Will Levi save me or will I have to save myself… from him?

If you love The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries, you’re going to have a great time at Camp Shadow Lake. Don’t piss off the counselors—they’ll eat you for breakfast.
Shadow Lake Vampire Society contains scenes with violence and some mild language.

It’s been a year since Piper’s father was brutally attacked and killed by someone or something while on a camping trip with his daughter. Her father had hidden her in a small crawl space beneath their cabin prior to the attack and she could only listen helplessly to his screams. With the blood of her father dripping on her through the floorboards, Piper lost consciousness and had remained that way for two days before she was rescued by the authorities. Following an official investigation, the cause of death was ruled as a bear attack. Piper knows better however, as along with the growling sounds she had heard heavy boots walking across the floorboards.

Stricken with flashbacks and anxiety attacks as a result of PTSD, Piper has been undergoing therapy for the past year but seems to have made little progress. The only person who believes her version of events is her best friend, Coco. Encouraged by her therapist, she accepts a job as a camp counsellor for foster kids at Camp Shadow Lake (where her father had also worked as a counsellor) in the hopes that a fresh start will help her to move past the trauma of her father’s death.

On her first day at the camp, Piper hits it off with fellow camp counsellor True King, whose parents died in a car crash three years ago. Piper is bewildered at the hostile stares from some of the other counsellors - especially Levi Kass, who she feels an instant attraction towards and who seems to be watch her every move. While searching for answers, Piper comes to realise that the camp is hiding secrets of its own and after seeing a vision, she realises her days are numbered. Someone is going to kill her and she needs to figure out who before it’s too late. Will Levi save her or will she have to save herself… from him?

The Vision is the first instalment in the Shadow Lake Vampire Society series cowritten by Katie French and Wendi Wilson. I was familiar with the former from her Supernatural Prison Camp series collaboration with Ingrid Seymour. I had also read Wendi Wilson’s Shadowed series so I was looking forward to reading this latest collaboration. The book is told solely from Piper’s point of view. From the offset, I found myself totally immersed in the premise of the story. Readers will instantly sympathise with Piper, who despite months of therapy, is struggling to overcome her sense of loss and trauma following her father’s brutal and untimely death. Only her best friend Coco (and later True) believe her version of events.

Her initial arrival at the camp gets off to a shaky start. On the one hand she instantly bonds with fellow counsellor True and on the other she finds herself under the scrutiny of an antagonistic Levi Kass, who is less than happy to have her at the camp. It soon becomes apparent that the camp is not what it appears to be and neither are the counsellors. Following a vision of her own death, Piper must differentiate between friend and foe before she suffers her father’s fate.

This was a well executed, tense and compelling read with lots of mystery, twists and turns with interesting and relatable characters. Both authors have paved the way for an intriguing sequel and I for one can’t wait.

Ideal for fans of urban fantasy/paranormal romance, supernatural mystery, secret societies, vampires, murder, troubled teens, PTSD, summer camps etc

I was lucky to get an advanced copy from this author duo which I absolutely had to have because I’m a huge vampire fan. And I was not disappointed. Piper is a lovable character who is immediately relatable and her bestie True is so cute and sassy. Add in a broody Vampire and I was sold. Piper and Levi are the next Bella and Edward I can totally see it! Hot vampires and summer camp - what’s not to love?

As always

Wendi slays the writing game! I’ve not read any other from Ms. French but I’m definitely going to now! This was so good and a quick read. I cannot wait for Book2!! I’m on the edge of my seat. I’d happily let Levi claim me any day!

The main character in the book is Piper Williams and the action begins with her going through an extremely traumatic experience. Piper is in a wooden cabin with her father who knows they are in danger so he hides her under some boards in the cabin floor. Piper listens to her father being killed and blood actually drips through the floorboards onto her. Piper isn’t discovered until 2 days later so obviously she suffers a kind of post-traumatic-stress-disorder and is sent to see a therapist called Dr Whitely. Piper has been told it was a bear that killed her father. Piper has flashbacks though she is learning to deal with the effects of the anxiety they cause. Piper can remember hearing boots and a door slammed open like a human would do, but when she says this no one believes her and they immediately shut down and tell her bears killed her father. The only person who stays by her side and believes what Piper remembers is her best friend Coco. It is suggested by Piper’s mum and Dr Whitely that being a counsellor at Shadow Lake Camp would be both good for her and the children she would be able to help as well as look good on her future resumé.

Piper at first reluctant slowly comes around to the idea. I think the thing that finally pushes Piper to say she will go to Shadow Lake Camp is that it is revealed her father was once a counsellor there too.

On arrival at Shadow Lake Camp Piper meets the Dean who is called Charles Purty. Charles/Dean Purty gives Piper a quick run-down about how things work. He informs her she will be the head of Saka’am cabin along with fellow female counsellor True King. It quickly become apparent that the other counsellors are not going to make Piper feel welcome or allow her into their exclusive little group. True explains its her second year at the camp and they were exactly the same last year and she just let them get on with it. Sarah seems to be the leader of the “cool good-looking gang” and the others Micah, Ian, Naveen, Analise, Miranda, and Lars seem to follow her lead. The only one who seems to stand out from this little gang is Levi who isolates himself a little from the other counsellors preferring to eat and spend time with the older members of staff such as Dean Purty and his assistant Sasha, and resident nurse Barbara.

Of course, my favourite character was Piper, she’s been through a very difficult time but is determined to come through it, and fight the flashbacks and the anxiety they give her. I adored the way she referred to herself in the book by either how she was feeling or what emotion/image she wanted to show the people around her. She can become “Bubbly Piper” or my favourite “Badass Piper”. There is an immediate chemistry between Piper and Levi. To begin with Piper understandably thinks the aloof, scowling Levi hates her for some reason. Things get worse when Piper overhears Levi suggesting to Dean Purty that he send her home. I also really liked the character called True King, though initially I felt a bit put off by her name, later in the book the reason behind her name is revealed and I guess it does really fit that True is her name. True and Piper quickly become close friends, so much so that Piper shares what she thinks about her father’s death, the fact everyone says it was a bear, despite her saying she heard boots hammering on the floor.

I loved the writing style it flowed so well and made the book a quick and easy enjoyable read. Levi is most certainly the “book boyfriend material” for YA readers, though I must say Dean Purty sounds …er….quite handsome too for those of us that are older not YA aged readers of the book!

Within the blurb this book is compared to The Twilight Saga and Vampire Diaries which I do agree with but I would also compare this book to Knights Academy by Emerald Barnes and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Also there is a warning that the book contains scenes with violence and some mild language, to be honest I think YA readers would probably see/hear worse on TV programmes these days.

My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were that it covers some difficult subjects, murder, mental health, grief, confidence, bullying, peer pressure, love, as well as some great paranormal issues such as vampires and their etiquette of drinking different types of blood and how to talk to them so you don’t literally get bitten or killed!

To sum up I am honestly looking forward to more in this series. The book ends with one heck of a cliff hanger! I also had so many questions, and despite Piper snooping and asking many questions she has yet to find out who/what killed her father. I am also super interested in learning more about Warren Thornberry and his society. I also wonder how the series will unfold will it be set at the Camp? Does the Camp work all year round? This series has so much potential!

Great summer read with a twist

Easy to read and I enjoyed the build up and history of how Piper came to be in her current state. Then things start to get interesting and you can't put the book down because you've got to know what's going to happen next! Such an interesting storyline, summer camp, vampires, and a secret society. This all makes for a supernatural mystery, drama, horror show. Not everything can be a happy ending but an intriguing one might be better! I see so much more to come with Piper and her friends!

This is a good young adult vampire romance with a mystery thrown in for spice. Levi and Piper's relationship got off to a great start and I can't wait to see where it goes. The setting of a summer camp adds a fantastically creepy vibe that heightens the tension of the story. I'm interested to see where this is going next.

This book can best be summed up as something very similar to Twilight, in that girl meets boy, boy turns out to be Vampire, and there is a romantic entanglement. Of course, it wouldn’t be much fun if there wasn’t an element of danger, so there are some nasty things as well.
Whilst there have been a significant number of stories in this genre, French and Wilson have created something that stands out amongst the others.
For starters, as someone who is a lover of the Vampire Mythology, and has been for decades, it is nice to see Authors taking ownership of a creature of Mythology, and rather than just either flat out copying it (which although can be faithful, can also be boring), or doing something dreadful, like making them sparkle like disco balls in the right light (seriously, Vampires do not ‘twinkle….’), the Authors have instead, paid homage to the Mythology, keeping some of the time honoured aspects, but have also changed other aspects, and they have had a lot of fun with it in the book as well, for example, garlic does not work, and one of the Vampires gets a good laugh at someone suggesting garlic as a weapon, and just how gullible people are.
This is the sort of clever, detailed, and creative world building that makes this story a lot of fun to read. Because lets face it, when you pick up a book like this, you are looking for something that is fun, pure escapism, and where you don’t have to think too much, you just want to enjoy the story. As such, it is important that the world building be accurate and realistic so that there is not glaring unrealistic errors that irritate you, or put you off the story, and this book is just seamless. What I really liked is that there is a good amount of mystery to it as well, keeping you guessing, but they answer a few of the questions, whilst adding more, making you want to keep going.
Of course, with a book like this, one of the main reasons for reading is the characters, the interactions between the main players. Piper is an extremely likeable character, you immediately take a liking to her as she tells you about how she has lost her Father to a mysterious attack the year before, and you learn of the relationship with her friend Coco.
We already know she is going to the Shadow Lake Camp, and there she meets True King, the girl with a lot of interesting stories to tell, but also the one who takes Piper under her wing.
There is some immediate similarities here to Twilight I will say, how Levi, one of the boys at the camp, seems to hate her, and stare at her with looks of loathing and hate, and there are these beautiful people all strutting around. Of course there is the leader, the Dean (and there are going to be suggestions that he is similar to the Dr from Twilight – but this is not so, as there is no family connection, and he has only been there 2yrs, does not know the others, it is quite different).
It does not take Piper long to realise that Levi, and several others at the Camp (the Counsellors), are actually Vampires (big shock given the title of the book!!!).
And this is where the heat is turned up, as there is an instant connection (that I am not going to spoil – you can read about it), between Piper and Levi.
But there are also a lot of dangerous things at Shadow Lake – things that Piper has not realised, and since she has suddenly stumbled across this secret, she is now in grave danger, much like her Father was the year before, and all of a sudden, her camp trip might not be the therapeutic and helpful trip she thought, it might be the last thing she does.
This is a powerful, character driven story, with gritty characters, that you will absolutely love. Piper and True, are so incredibly real, intelligent, and there is some absolutely brilliant humour, as well as some very clever and powerful moments between them. The interplay between Levi and Piper is, you know what – you will find out when you read it, but just make sure when you get to those sections, you aren’t going to get disturbed!!
This is a wonderful story, a lot of fun, and well worth the read, if you liked Twilight, then you will love this, because it has a lot more class, and is a lot more mature in the writing. If you love anything with that romantic Vampire element, then you have to read this, as it is brilliant – can’t wait for book 2!!

This is a bedtime book. a lunchtime book, a coffee break book, a soon as you wake up book in fact you will find it very difficult to keep your eyes off this as I found I couldn’t put this book down...I was totally emmersed in the storyline..personally I don’t think this is nothing like “Twilight” yes it involves romance and vampires, but that’s where it ends because to me there is nothing to match the absolute original storyline of bereavement & desolation resulting in months of therapy to continue agreeing with the lie of the official cause of her father’s death because otherwise Piper would be Locked away in an asylum, so apart from the blurb that attracts you to the book, I don’t like leaving anymore spoilers. Wendi.L.Wilson is a new author to me but I’m a great fan of Katie French’s work and it’s obvious this fusion of minds, imaginations & can transcended rules of originality, interpretations, methods and progressiveness of characters personalities along with the world building around each of them has turned out extraordinary for these two authors so I would high five them both if It was physically possible. This series has opened my stove and I can’t wait for more heat of the storyline to be attached to the coal that feeds it. I don’t leave spoilers if possible. As this is the first book in the series I wanted to let other readers know how I found the authors worked together...as the series continues I will be commenting more on the characters & storyline, as it’s a definite for me to want book.2. for now know I would definitely recommend this YA Vampire, Mystery & Deadly with a shot of Lust, with so much more in between book. It will be receiving the top ratings possible for this start from me

I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
This book had me gripped from the first chapter, which is a flash back of Piper and her dad being at a cabin, and her dad senses trouble so makes sure that she is safe before confronting the trouble. Unfortunately he doesn't make it 😔 which traumatises Piper.
Her mum thinks that it's a good idea for her to be a counsellor at a camp.
But there are secrets about the other camp counsellors that could spell trouble for Piper.
They are all drop dead gorgeous and could be model's instead of being camp counsellors, so what's their secret?, why are they at the camp?
What really happened to Piper's dad, she's knows that it wasn't a bear attack, so what was it?
Well you'll get all of the answers and more when you read this outstanding book by Wendi L Wilson 💞
It's so well written and the characters are brilliantly brought to life by the way that Wendi writes them that they you'll feel like you're at camp full of teenagers too 😁😁
Definitely a book I'd recommend 🥰🥰💕

A Thoroughly Engrossing & Entertaining Spooky Read!!👀😲😍😎
A 4.5 Star Read 🌟
Shadow Lake Vampire Society: The Vision

Piper is left with one best friend after living through a horrendous & traumatizing experience that's changed her!💔 Coco is her light in the darkness in their last month's of high school. Her Mum is is worried now insular she's become & with her therapists backing has enrolled her to be a camp counsellor for the summer. Coco encourages her to go too.🙏

She meets True, her counsellor buddy, they hit it off immediately & grow very close.😃 True was there the year before & fills her in on what to expect. What neither expects though is Levi Kass to show an interest in Piper or for the other counsellors to hate her for it!!😳 Something untoward seems to be going on but they can't quite put their fingers on what.👀😕

A very well written & paced read. I loved the character's & storyline. Piper's personal growth was really welcome!👍 I'm really looking forward to book #2.🌟

I was lucky enough to get an advanced readers copy of this book, and it ended up being one of the books keeping me sane while my internet was down.

In this book, we meet Piper, a girl who has experienced losing her dad in a violent incident and working on healing the trauma from being there when he died. Trying to put herself out there, rejoining society, she starts working at a summer camp. The events transpiring there leads her on a road to discovery of her own inner strength, courage and healing.

The character is well written and you can easily find relatable traits in her, while experiencing her struggle to find herself again after the trauma and I enjoyed the character development as I progressed through the book and I find that I need to see where Piper's story will lead.

Would I read it again? Most likely, if I ever end up getting through the current backlog of reading material that I have.

Classic Mix

This was a stay-up-later-than-I-had-planned, absorbing, can't-turn-the-pages-fast-enough book. I loved the mix of tropes, all knotted together, including:
--an awesome BFF (two actually),
--mean girls,
--a queen bee,
--the summer camp setting,
--the human-girl-meets-hot-vampire-guy,
--and the dad who was killed mysteriously.
That's just to start with. It's a dump cake of tropes, but it works!
It's also a rare 100% clean read.

The downside is the plot is really simple, with no depth or subplots. Hopefully future books will go deeper into, well, everything. The ending is not an ending, but not truly a cliffhanger either. I was simply left in the middle of the story.

It was still a fun read, wondering what would happen next. Piper is a catalyst, unknowingly dropped into the middle of two antagonistic vampire groups, her own powers just beginning to emerge.

Happy reading!

Being a fan of Wendi Wilson’s work and new to Katie French’s, I was eager to get my hands on this book, and it did not disappoint. Vampires. Secret societies. A supernatural mystery or two to solve. It had everything to keep me intrigued and turning the pages.

Suffering from PTSD after witnessing a horrific murder, Piper has alienated herself from everything and everyone for the past year when an opportunity arises that could help her move closer to the person she used to be. Or at least that was the plan, but it soon becomes clear Camp Shadow Lake isn’t exactly what it appears to be, and neither are the counselors. And that ending—whoa!—I did not see it coming.

This book was fantastic and I cannot wait to see what happens next in book 2. Well done Wendi Wilson and Katie French, well done.

Description on book was spot on with the whole Twilight thing, but with the camp twist, 20-some age difference and below 18 yo bodies. The mystery of whodoneit will not be solved but love is in the air. This quick-paced teenage drama is friendly enough even with the grotesque bloody scenes, but they are quite expected where vampires are concerned, so please jump into this story with a bloody warning.

If you're expecting dual POV, I'm sorry. If you're expecting happy ever after in the last paragraph, I'm sorry. It will be brutal. Coco!!!!! But anyway, fast paced. Fast crushing. Fast stabbing. And then, it's over and you kinda wanna more thanks to the sneak peek page right after saying thanks for reading and add a review

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this book. The authors did a good job creating this story and really making it their own.
Piper's character has been through so much. I could feel her turmoil, her fear and really, her PTSD after what she went through with her father. You could see her grow throughout the story, but still feel her anguish and pain. She was blessed with 2 amazing friends, Coco and True, who saw her and accepted her for who she was and didn't try to change her.
Then, there is Levi. He is definitely a character worth loving and wanting to know more about.
I can't wait to read the next book!

Vampires and camping, who knew!

Piper and Levi just don't have magic that Edward and Bella had, the instant attraction kind of falls flat. I do see the similarities but there is no spark. So many different stories going on in this book and having the vampires as camp counsellors just feels all kinda wrong and not the best place to work out their issues with their addictions. I do not think I will read the rest if the series as the characters are not engaging apart from True who is a supportive best friend even risking her life to help Piper. The visions and lack of explanation or background information is frustrating as you don't have all the information.

I absolutely love Wendi Wilson, and when I read the blurb about this book I couldn't wait to read it. This book is a great read that will make you not want to put it down. Piper has been having a hard time dealing with the death of her father so going to camp seems like a good way to help forget about things for awhile right? Yeah, right.... what she gets instead is a great friend, weird co-camp counselors, a broody teen crush she can't figure out, and a dangerous mystery that just needs to be solved.
Once you start reading this book you will not want to stop. I eagerly await the next one.

Sucks you in. You have to figure out who did what.

First time reading this Author. I really loved the attraction between Levi & Piper. Piper has a tragic backstory. Unfortunately, for her things don't get much better. However, she does slowly get some answers. The Shadow Lake camp isn't what it seems. It literary becomes a fight for your life daily. She has allies however, they can't be protecting everyone at once. She meets a new best friend named True. Thank goodness because at this camp you are better off in a group!

I really liked this book. It was the perfect teen escape without being to teenagery. Piper loses her father and grieves his loss. Her mom and counselor think it will be good idea for her to serve other struggling youth at a summer camp. Her father worked there as a kid as well.

A few of the scenes are a bit vampire cliche, but they have to be. It is obvious, you should not fall in love with a vampire because they are dangerous. The plot was face-paced and held my interest. The characters were endearing and brave. And I can't wait to see what happens next in Piper's world.

4 Stars for The Vision by Wendi L Wilson and Katie French. This is book one the Shadow Lake Vampire Society. Piper’s father was murdered a year ago on a camping trip they took together. Now Piper is at Camp Shadow Lake and things seem strange with the counsellors. She is instantly drawn to Levi who is one of the counsellors. However, Levi isn’t happy to have her there but she doesn’t understand why. Piper has always got visions and felt different. I enjoyed this book. It was tense and filled with suspense. I loved all the drama, romance, and twists and turns.

Something new, something old

3,5 rounded up. A very teen very contemporary romance books. If you read the most hyped one you read most. As the saying confirms it has something new in it - I liked the camp vibe - it has some old story in it first seems haters than turnsouttobe the biggest fan kinda brooding boy. Something borrowed, hmm I think the whole story is kinda like it. BUT!!! If you liked 10yrs ago The Saga and didnt read similar story for a while and like it if ots a biz dark than you’ll gona enjoy it. Even Immovet my teens for a while its still makes it a bit kinda re-living the feeling.

I’m not really into reading vampire stories after the Twilight Series. Read there, Read that.
I love reading Wendi Wilson’s books. Each book is unique and she’s able to take a saturated genre and make it fresh and original.
WW tag teamed with another supernatural author, Katie French this series. The result is a sweet, vampire book boyfriend you can’t refuse and another original story you won’t want to put down until it’s finished. Looking forward to book 2!

Shadow Lake Vampire Society: The Vision

Very good book with the blood pounding in my own veins, wondering who was coming after me! Any writer who can do that to me is a very good author. It was an exceptional story with an ending that isn’t an ending making me anxious to read the next book from this author.
The book started out a little slow but then before it was over, I was hoping for more! Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
