About the author

Born in Chobham, by an airfield, and raised in Winchester on the banks of the River Itchen, Fleur Hitchcock grew up as the youngest child of three. When she was eight, she wrote a story about an alien and a jelly. It was called THE ALIEN AND THE JELLY and filled four exercise books. She grew up a little, went away to school near Farnham, studied English in Wales, and, for the next twenty years, sold Applied Art in the city of Bath. When her younger child was seven, she embarked on the Writing for Young People MA at Bath Spa and graduated with a distinction. Now living outside Bath, between parenting and writing, Fleur Hitchcock works with her husband (a toy maker), looks after other people's gardens and grows vegetables.

Good mystery story, Fleur is good at these!
A charity shop buy (sorry, but as a TA who reads MG all the time I know what are good books to buy and school doesn't have good budget!)

Aiden, Ava, Chloe and Josh are cousins who are staying at their grandparents house for new year. It's always fun, and they get well fed but this year there is snow!
As they climb the hill leading to Frost Castle, they are alerted to a car - coming too fast! It just misses them as it goes off the road. The children run to help. The lady inside is Martha Darcey-Court an actress. She is travelling to Frost Castle where her friend lives to act in the New Years Eve Play.
Martha tells them this is the final straw - she thinks the necklace she inherited from her Uncle is cursed because since she had it, she'd had an attempted burglary and now she's crashed her car (thankfully missing Chloe).
The children help her to the Castle where they get roped in to help with the play by Felicity, the owner of Frost Castle.
But things keep happening to Martha...what is going on and who is behind it?
And just how important is that locket Martha is wearing - and what are the broken bits that are still in the box?

Excellent book for Key Stage 2 children who want to read a well written mystery adventure to gain confidence and self-esteem in independent reading.
