Midlife Mayhem #3

Spandex, Spells & Shadows?

Rate this book
I finally had some answers. Except those answers only led to more questions. And the first question on my mind?

Were there any other halflings in existence?

Between Hunter’s and with the Council, his orders to kill me, and the immense growth in my magical powers, I’d hardly had time to explore that possibility.

But I needed to. I needed to know if there was anyone else like me out there, and I needed to know now. The only problem was that when I got my wish, well…

Let’s just say things didn’t quite turn out the way I had expected. Then again, when did they ever?

Each one of these books gets better and better. Shannon is growing in her magic and has decided that she will never be a DA again but instead a full time witch 🧙!! Let’s just say it’s a lot harder than she thought and she is learning. The complicated part is she isn’t just an ordinary witch she’s a half-ling and being a half-ling is illegal. So of course she is wanted “ Dead or Alive !! Like a cowboy 🤠

This book feels like a video game as Shannon learns new things about being a fae and a witch. She keeps having these visions that are leading her to some pretty risky business. Each time she does it feels like we are leveling up to a new challenge and of course she isn’t telling her friends. And when she does it isn’t until she has started taking matters into her own hands !! Shannon stresses me out from page 1 to 234 because she always has a plan.

Now don’t get us wrong we love a strong willed heroine normally. However, in this case where the heroine does not have a proper hold on her magic you want her to tone it down a touch. Like take a nap Shannon. Talk to the 90 year old witch 🧙 before you bring another fae into the house. Don’t fall for the fae hunter who kills your kind for a living. I mean come on lol 😂!! But with that all being said I still loved it and I am happy there is so much more to unpack.

Happy reading everyone !!!

Spells and power.

Shannon is at last coming to grips with her new powers. She has found out that there have been many other halflings born and wonders if she would ever be able to meet one. Then there is her relationship (if you can call it that) with the Hunter from the council. They have something happening but he has a gear on him to kill her so they have to stay apart. There’s a lot going on in this book that keeps you interested and there’s a tag at the end that promises more.

Each of these books is better than the one before. I really enjoyed this one and am getting the next one to read in few minutes.

This story about a 40 year old woman who didn't discover she was a witch until she was 40, also discovered she's what's referred to as a halfling - half fae and half witch. Hunters, humans who have been given magical powers and are ordered about by the "Council" have been ordered to find her and bring her back to the council or kill her. She also discovered another halfling who hasn't yet manifested powers but was captured and imprisoned by the hunters. After freeing one hunter from his cursed bond, the two of them go to the home of the hunters and council to rescue the other halfling. Along the way they find an elderly elf who knew her father so they rescue him as well.

Full of emotion.

Finally Shannon and her family broke the bond between Hunter and the council. The ritual wasn't easy because Hunter was in pain and finally didn't breathe at all for a moment they thought they killed him with the potion. Hunter is able to see Shannon again. Now that he lost all of his magic and become an ordinary human but physically still a strong man.

Shannon also found out there's another halfling she needed to protect.

And Laslow got a new hope knowing that he has real family and intended to escape from the jail this time.

Oh I'm so excited!

I didn't need to write long review because I want to read the next book asap.

Searching for answers

Trying to find other halflings like her while trying to find a spell to help break Hunter away from the Council's hold and break the urge they've instilled within him to kill Shannon is really just her new normal now. Embracing her life of magic hasn't changed that ingrained part of her searching for answers and justice in what seems to be a really messed up sense of rules regarding fae and witches and other magical creatures for that matter. Hoping to see Shannon change those ways as her story continues.

Can their love survive the curse?

As you know from reading the first book Hunter and Shannon couldn’t be together because of the curse and bounty on Shannon’s head that Hunter is there to collect upon. Shannon and her family find spell to break the bond between Hunter and his boss but does it work? What other mischief can Shannon find? Will it be alone out with a o partner?

Don’t miss this next installment

Entertaining book

Shannon is gaining control of her powers but is not quite there yet. Are there other halflings like her? Will she and her family find a spell that will break the compulsion hold that the Council has on Hunter? Will she be able to pull off a rescue from the bowels of the Council's headquarters? I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.

An easy and fast read! I have really enjoyed this paranormal series where a 40 something divorcee comes into her own!

She learns of her families magical history and that she herself has a few gifts she was unaware of until circumstances take her back home to help with the family business -a new age magical shop that she didn't realize was reality for her family!

Really loving this series!

It's a breath of fresh air. Normally paranormal romances are a bit annoying for me, the sex scenes get a little too repetitious. This series however hasn't had any of that however. Just some exciting , nail biting suspense and a lot of emotions. I recommend it!! I give it 5 stars!!!😃

Fast-paced and a fun read. I quickly see Melinda Chase becoming one of my favorite authors. Shannon does the unexpected and keeps delving deeper and deeper into her world and background. I love it!

Great Series

I read all 3 in the series in record time. Once I got started I couldn't put them down. Great characters, loved watching Shannon becoming aware of her ancestry and the growing bond between her, her mom, grandmother, and their friends.

Better and better

I didn't think this series could get better but it has. Along with the snark and the sarcasm there's also lots of action and battling. It's a quick read and if can't wait for the next one.

Shannon must find a spell to help Hunter

Shannon is getting better with her spells and fae magic. She's missing Hunter something fierce. He's staying at a hotel, but seeing him is a must. A cloaking spell is the answer. Shannon believes she found another life her, a halfling.

Shannon and Hunter

Magic, mystery and danger. The council wants Shannon dead, halflings are forbidden. Hunter is hexed to kill her and Shannon has found another halfling. Love the characters. No cliffhanger and happy for now. Good series.

Very very slow with the romance....

I like these books, but I'm having a hard time with how slowly the romance is going. I'm going to read the next one and then decide if I'm going to keep going.

I wasn't sure as I started this book. Though as I read on and the story unfolded, I was pulled into this tale. This is Book #3 and I hadn't read #1 nor #2, but the author made it easy to meet the characters and be pulled along. I really enjoyed this book about faes and witches.

I really wanted to like

I tried to read this series several times and just can't finish. The writing is solid, the story arch interesting. But the main character is so unlikable that I need to stop. If unlikable women bother you, this is not the series for you.

Very entertaining!

The books are quite short but well written and entertaining! I am not one for "romance novels" and thankfully this series, so far at least, has sweet flirtations without any boring or gratuitous sex scenes found in many other books of this genre.

Witches!

So much is happening, and not all is good. But this family of witches are teaching their halfling about how to use her magic. A rollercoaster of events happen, and I can’t wait to read more books in this series. Thumbs up to this author.

Awesome

OK, now we are getting there. I have only just realised these are this authors first books. This 3rd book hit the nail on the head. Characters with depth, interesting and changing plot and a better length. I definitely recommend this series.

Captivating

Chase is a gift author that's crafted a series that's pulled me in from book one. This series has an eclectic blend of characters that bring life to these adventures.
