Working in a bookstore I'm afforded the luxury of seeing a great many books. All kinds of books, it makes the mind reel actually when I think about all the books I see that come out. On the positive side because there are so many nice and interesting books that come out, oh so many, many more then I will ever be able to read and more than enough to realize that anyone who complains about no good books being written anymore is obviously just angry because they only know about books probably by dead authors who obviously can't write new books. But then there is the other side of the spectrum, the terribly awful books that it will be difficult to imagine have been written, never mind published, and certainly not having been decided by a buyer for a large corporation that the book should have the companies money spent on it and brought in to their many stores across the country. The number of these books is also astounding and would make any intelligent person wonder what people were thinking.
I don't like the idea of adding books I haven't fully read, but I'm realizing that there are books that need to be slammed about, and that can be hated without having finished them. So the first of these books is this new release about angles, and exactly what are they really like.
I have not read the whole book. I skimmed through the Michael part, because he's a jock and I wanted to know why, I wanted to know what sport he played, how he gives wedgies to nerdier angels on the clouds with his other jockish seraphim friends, and maybe how he guzzles beers on a Friday night and makes the Virgin Mary not so pure anymore, if you know what I mean. I did not find out exactly what makes him a Jock, except that he is a warrior, those two words are synonymous with each other, but maybe splitting hairs is pedantic and our high school football player is really doing some brave by playing a pretty stupid sport where guys run into each other while one tries to run through all of the guys who are running in to each other, except for the times where they throw the ball, and then military terms are put to use, like the long bomb.
Next the author goes on to give other fascinating details about the Archangel Michael that would be something an depth expose in US magazine might cover. His favorite food? Thai and Spicy Mexican. His favorite music? Rock n' Roll, RnB, funk and hip hop. There are many more facts like this put I stopped reading. Of course the question is how does this person know Michael likes these things? Was Michael really fucking depressed for a few thousand years before the advent of Rock n' Roll, why would a superior being to us find the inane banality of any of these types of music interesting after existing for thousands of years (if not forever)? And do Angels need to eat? And finally who the fuck would buy this kind of shit?
Would anyone believe in this book? Is there anyone in the world who would read it and feel akin to an angel because this author has decided that angel X and person Y have similar tastes in colors, music and food? The book is described as being helpful to people in the modern day understand angels and make them relevant, but I don't understand how anyone could read even half a page of this book and not just smell the utter bullshit seeping out of every page. I'd like to think no one would ever buy this book and believe in it, but it's made it's way through a publisher and someone who makes more money than me decided that stores should carry it, and sadly I'm sure there is a percentage of people who will find this book informative and give a retarded comfort to their lives.

This book is a breath of fresh air in a genre that had been stuck on a boring/mundane repeat like a broken record for decades.
I've been fascinated with angels since I was a child and I've read just about every book there is on the market regarding the subject. I've read religious books, historical books, new age and spirituality books on the subject, so I think I can call myself a pretty well-rounded, though casual, reader.
I honestly thought I had read it all when I came across this book, and I was going to pass it up. I thought it was just going to be another rehash of Doreen Virtue or Sylvia Brown.
Chantel Lysette and her book have gone where no one has ever gone before and is probably one of the most original, freshest perspectives on angelology that I've yet read.
Azrael Loves Chocolate, Michael's a Jock is practical spirituality with a funny bone, and Chantel Lysette and "the boys" (the archangels) spare no jokes or jabs as they talk about humanity's relationship with God. But what I found so incredibly awesome about this book is that it shows the angels in a light that makes them more real than any other book I've read to date. Of every book I've ever read, I always felt the author was simply regurgitating what they had gotten out of dusty history books and biblical texts.
Chantel's approach goes straight to the source (the archangels themselves) to provide insight and wisdom in a highly entertaining and engaging way. Her style is very personal. She doesn't come off as a know-it-all, and what amazed me was her openness and willingness to discuss her personal struggles and spiritual challenges she continues to face even though she communicates with the angels daily.
After reading Azrael Loves Chocolate, I felt that I could sit down with Chantel over coffee and find myself laughing until I cried at her wit and humor, but I felt that I could also do that with the archangels, especially Michael, who seems to have the greatest sense of humor out of all of them.
If you have found your angel experiences falling flat after reading all the other better-known angel books on the shelves, you need to pick up Azrael Loves Chocolate. Chantel brings them right into your life, encouraging you to get to know them for yourself on a personal level.
I only rate this book five stars because the rating meter doesn't go up to ten.

This is the only spiritual book i have yet connected to involving angels. Its witty. Its understandable. Its written remarkably well. You know how you sometimes learn something that makes you think long and hard? This is one of those things.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, I recommend it to everyone. I teach Angelology from a Pagan standpoint and this book is a great reference for people who want to know the Archangels more intimately. Highly Recommended.

very interesting quick read. I have to disagree about Gabriel though. I only find him loving, kind and patient. the descriptions of the mansions were interesting but I know the angels pretty much create whatever they want. I definitely would use this book as a resource if I ever encounter any of the other angels. her description of Michael is spot on.

This was a cute piece of mental candy. A good diversion from some of the heavier stuff I've been reading lately. I didn't agree with a lot of her views on destiny, but it was kind of fun to think about the angels as doing more than just helping people.

I love Chantel Lysette's attitude in conversing with Archangels! She really makes them come alive and seem much more accessible through her liberal use of humor and familiarity. I recommend this book to anyone who wants the inside scoop on angels. Kind of like TMZ for the Heavens!

Well, is a different book. Angels have always been described with respect and distance and Chantel talks about them as her best friends, I liked the fresh way of describing them.
