Leta Feldman is tired of living her life by everyone else’s rules except her own and was looking for a change. When the opportunity presented itself, she decided to pack up and start fresh with a new life which also included a new husband.
Evan Eaton is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst while waiting for the arrival of his new mail-order bride. He just wants to make sure his land is safe and that’s all that matters, until he meets Leta and she makes him dream for so much more.
Ms Gaines has hit another one out the park. Maple Sundaes & Cider Donuts was a laugh out loud good time. The characters were fun to get to know and Leta and Evan was a lovable couple. I enjoyed visiting New Hampshire and can’t wait to see what’s the next stop in this series.

Ok

The book started well. I enjoyed both Letta and Evan’s personalities. I laughed out loud when I realized that Evan didn’t know who Letta was. Unfortunately the book went somewhat downhill for me. First of all, the whole falling in love within a week is a bit much. However what I couldn’t understand was why Rick thought getting rid of Letta would be beneficial. The land was supposed to revert back to the town. So unless he had a cunning plan to get the town to sell to him, it didn’t make much sense. My biggest gripe with the book is that every cliché about small towns and “red necks” was thrown in and I find it irritating. From the mean girls to the under cover married gay pastor to the meth lab.
I understand Letta wanting to change her life but I couldn’t understand why she couldn’t carry on freelancing as an insurance investigator as well as running her puzzles business.

They both needed a change in their lives

Letta Feldman was tired of being second-guessed by her mother with everything she did. It was hard living up to the expectations of the family of attorneys. Evan Eaton was handed a life he did not want as town clerk of Meredith, New Hampshire. But he loved the family property and the beautiful lake it was near. The people of Meredith were clique-ish and he knew where all of the bodies were buried so to speak and he kept to himself, acquiring the handle of the town grump. But when Left floated in town ready to marry him, he was in love at first sight. Letta could not let Evan lose everything when her selfish and narcissistic BFF left him high and dry. Letta needed a real change in her life and she took the chance. We see both she and Evan transform within a week of their marriage. Letta is more outgoing and confident and Evan relinquished the title of town grump. With Letta, he has something to look forward to, love, and protect. He's no longer staying silent about those bodies.

I just loved this story. Olivia has a way with words that keeps my attention. I just love her sense of humor and how she incorporates that into her characters with the things they say and this book kept me laughing. I can't wait for the next one. Great job Olivia, as always

A delightful read. Evan and Leta were a charming couple with humor in spades from beginning to end. Ms. Gaines never disappoints when it comes to unique and unexpected three dimensional characters regardless of their being the H and H or a supporting character and this story is no exception. I don't think I've laughed this much since reading Beauregard and Khloe's story in "Tennessee Mountain Man".

Though, I like this story a lot there are some inconsistencies, repetitions, and grammatical errors that could have been cleaned up with a little more editing.

I love the Mail Order Bride series and the story from Ms. Gaines did not disappoint. Leta bum rushed her way into Evans world and turned it upside down. She was like a female pied piper, having almost everyone falling under her spell. This book was full of laughs. I found myself literally in tears from laughing so hard. Olivia Gaines has such a way With words. I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for this series.

Feel Good Story

Leta did what the bible said to do, step out on faith. After a failed attempt by her narcissistic friend Claudia to seal the deal being a mail order bride, Let a, looking for a different life, decided to take the chance. She sold her house, packed up her belongings and moved from Atlanta to New Hampshire and married a man who captured her attention by the weekly letters he'd written to her friend (who was really bat shit crazy) Claudia. A perfect fit for Evan who fell head over heels for the beauty. I don't know about the dessert, but I do know this book was excellent.

The slight intrinsic racism and homophobia just about ruin this for me

The whole time I was reading this I was like "what black person speaks like this". I was like this sounds like what white people or a black person who wants white people to like them think black people talk. It made mad because the story was so good and I loved the characters for the most part. I thought it couldn't get any worse and was willing to look beyond the hyper sexualization of the characters who are people of color. But then once again taking from a great story the author unnecessarily made the gay characters into borderline pedophiles in the least and predators at the most. She should probably get some better beta readers who who can tell her this stuff is ruining an awesome story that is well developed and thought out.

Not My Style

No, I did not enjoy this book. More than once I wanted to put it down. I kept reading which is why I bumped up my rating to 2 stars. To be fair, Amazon recommended this from other books I've read, but I can't figure out why. I like Christian romance and this was the opposite of my typical romance style. I don't know why authors substitute sex for romance. I didn't buy the romance or the storyline.
I didn't like the language used at all. The author tried to pass the female off as an urban sophisticate. She was anything but. The storyline and language used was so stereotypical. I know very few black women who behave like this person.
I actually bought two books in this series based on other reviewers ratings. I won't make that mistake again.

No… I could not.
I’m not sure why but this series started out so great… I was loving the books, then I got to the book before this and now this. No!
This is NOT what I want in my romance novels!
Just too much drama! I was flipping pages as fast as I could to digest the story and get it over with.
The build up of the 2 main characters was lacking, the jealous, self centered best friend was too much, the lackluster love scenes, then finally the racial quips just made me not like this at all.
I read these books to get away from this type of crap. I could have just watched today’s newscast. It’s a no for me and I gave the last book 4 stars and this book 3 b/c I do like the author. We’ll see how the next book goes.

Good read!

I enjoyed reading this book, the only thing I regret is Cladia never went to jail. She should have been charged for cutting Kevin where it was gonna ruin his career. Also, you could have made her come to Let and Evan home, for, the cookout and everyone find out she took money from Rick to ruin Evan. This was the first book I read by Olivia Gaines and am looking forward to read more.

Thanks!

They Leave The Lights On!

Maple Sundaes and Cider Donuts is a modern, contemporary, interracial romance unlike anything I've ever read. The secrets are intriguing enough to keep you reading, almost without stopping. There are many laugh out loud moments. Some are hilarious - think half a house being added to an existing cabin. The characters are developed enough with some secondary characters so interesting that you want to read more about them. Some characters are envious, small minded and even evil. Others are loving, open-minded starved for friends like Evan and Leta. It took all of them to make the book.

Evan Eaton, a white man from Meredith, NH, will do anything to keep his beautiful land with a breathtaking view of the lake. Evan is not like most men from a small town, though Meredith is the typical homogenous small town in Anywhere, America. Most townspeople have no idea who he really is. He's brilliantly different and has been waiting on Leta for fifteen years. He needed a wife and a baby by the end of the year to keep his land. He believed the answer was a mail order bride. He had no idea it would be a black woman because he hadn't contracted with one. Even though he never dated a black woman, he had no ingrained racism that would keep him from falling in love with one.

Leta Feldman is a very attractive, intelligent, successful African-American, city woman from Atlanta whose best friend, Claudia, contracted with Evan but had no intention of fulfilling the contract even though she knew he would lose his land. Claudia was a redheaded white women who was completely self centered and didn't care a whit for anyone else, not even her BFF. Leta decided she needed a complete change in her life and decided to take Claudia's place to keep Evan from losing his land. Her decision wasn't made lightly. Leta is a big city attorney from an affluent family. She has no idea the secrets some residents of Meredith had or how wicked some of them were and the effect they would have on her and Evan. Why did she think that Evan would accept her and marry her when she showed up instead of Claudia? Why did she think that she could be happy in Meredith. You'll have to read the book to find out.

There was an immediate attraction between Evan and Claudia. There was something about Leta and Evan was very comfortable with her. Some townspeople were also attracted to her, for she was like a charismatic whirlwind. Of course, Evan and Leta had sex within a couple of days - after all they had to make and have a baby by the end of the year. The sex was satisfying and realistic yet it wasnt graphic or descriptive sex or overly erotic. Still you wanted them to hurry and make love.

There were so many minor errors in the book and the timing was often off, I deducted a star from its rating. It desperately needed an editor. However, the book was so much fun to read that the errors were not distracting enough to interrupt your reading. I am going to read other mail order bride's books by the author but not those that are novella length. This one was almost too short but the maple sundaes and cider donuts really hit the spot.

They so crazy.

Who marries a truly random stranger? Someone reeking of desperation, that's who. Evan is the desperate one, Leta the random stranger. This pairing couldn't be better though. She brings joy to his life, turning him from the town grump to the town grillmaster people want to have a beer with. He is hesitant at first. After all, she's -- here's the big shocker -- Black. Oh my goodness, who dyed his bride-to-be? Leta sticks out like a sore thumb in NH, but Evan rolls with the punches that brings. He will defend her against all naysayers. To add to the tension, toss in a land dispute and attempted murder charges. Sleepy NH got really exciting really quickly. Such a good story but the editing could have been better. Lots of comma errors and too many obscurely worded passages (one was too many). Toward the end it seemed that some pertinent phrases were missed as the sentences didn't flow from beginning to end.

Get In Where You Fit In

I love the Mail Order Bride Series from Olivia Gaines. They are always good for a little laughter, mystery & romance. Evan wasn't ready for Leta a breath of fresh air that he & his hometown needed. Leta is a professional woman who is ready for a change. She's ready for the deserving people to get a chance to be all that is possible in their life. I enjoyed reading as Evan discovers his new bride is multifaceted & Leta learns he isn't a stuffed shirt after all. They have fun on the path of discovery that they are embarking on as a new couple. Come enjoy this great read. Looking forward as always to the next in the series. They are standalones & can be read in any order. Enjoy!

Great Read

Olivia did it again. I really like reading the mail order Bruce books and they never cease to disappoint me! Just loved reading about Evan and Leta. They were truly made for each other. I'm happy that they decided to actually give their marriage a go even though she wasn't who he expected. But it was good to see how well they got along and people really took to her but of course there had to be drama and people with their prejudices and jealousy as well. But it's always good when both mates are willing to make sure they always have each other's back no matter what. Looking forward to reading more of her books. Thanks for sharing hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did!

Great Read

I loved this book. Leta was such a smart strong woman who decided to uproot her life to help out someone she cared for only through letters. Evan was a man who was in a desperate situation and decided to get a mail order bride to save his family's land. Evan was not expecting Leta, but she changed him and his life for the better. Evan gave Leta everything she ever dreamed of and more and Leta gave Evan the family life he always wanted. Leta and Evan made the perfect couple and changed their little quiet New Hampshire town. All that excitement in town with Leta, Evan and friends should be a book series. I would love to read more about them. Such an enjoyable read. Definitely worth reading and reading again.

Awesome book!

Ms Gaines you have outdone yourself with this one! I wish I could give it 10 stars!! I laughed and could not put it down. I stayed up all night to finish it and it was worth it. I loved the chemistry of Evan and Leta. I loved the transformation in Evan, Leta's love and personality made it happen. I wanted Claudia to get her a#$ whooped. It was truly a great story.I loved the drama it had me on the edge of my seat one of the reasons I could not put it down. I did not want it to end and I cannot wait for the next books in the series. I highly recommend this book. Ms Gaines is an awesome author reading her books are like watching a good movie.

Not Too Bad

Enjoyed getting to know Leta and Evan. I am not sure their chemistry was totally believable or the connection for how Leta signs up for this cute "mail order bride" troupe, but it was cute. The twists and turns of the rest of the story made this book a bit more interesting- the supporting cast is what was more interesting than the couple ironically. The story doesn't feel finished, too many holes that never quite came together. However, I had a few laughs and did some smiling along the way. Wish it made a bit more sense and that the author connected the dots a bit better.

Meant to be together!

Evan and Leta was meant to be together, a love that to me was pure! They proved that the need for love had no bounds to second guess it was right or wrong! Neither had experienced love, neither experienced the other race, Evan because where he lived and Leta because of her background of her parents Civil Right up bringing for her! Love won out, they needed love everything else was lost out, they loved each other they wanted freedom they wanted peace in their life to live! They put each other first! True Love!

A new reason to love New Hamoshire

I literally could not stop reading this book. When I had to get up and move I switched over to audio, which I never did before today. I had to finish this book. The suspense. The confusion. The instalove. The very frank race discussions. The toxicity of certain relationships revealed and of course the passionate romance made this an incredible journey. It doesn't hurt.thst in a New Englander either, and that New Hanpshire is one of my favorite regions.

Best Story Ever

Loved this book. It is filled with lots of witty sayings and a few twist. When Leta first met Evan, I didn’t realize she was not what Evan ordered. There’s a twist to that. The towns folk were smitten with Leta and just about everyone she met, wanted to get to know her. I loved how she made Evan loosen up and become a better person who smiled and laughed. She helped to mend his brokenness as he did for her. I also loved that they waited before consummating the marriage, and it wasn’t graphic sex. The mail order bride series is awesome. Highly recommended.

I Really Enjoyed This Book

A few unanswered questions, I'll discuss in a minute.

Leta was fed up with life in the A T L, so she took on a adventure that turned into the perfect man.

Evan wasn't expecting Leta, but what a welcomed relief she was for him.

The issue - what happened to Claudia that narcissistic itchbay, assaulted a man and left him to loose his career, and there wasn't any reprecussions???!!! I think that info should have been addressed with at least a sentence🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

I really loved this book

A black woman in New Hampshire. Working for the Federal Bureau of Prisons I am quite familiar with the city of Manchester so it was nice it got nod.
Who hasn't dreamed of just saying flip what everyone says or thinks and just take a chance?
Olivia has seamlessly put a tale together of just that. I found myself laughing out loud at the southern sayings and Evans moments of "I'll be damned".

My only con is ..darn it I wanted Virgil to tell us exactly what horrors were in that garage!!!

So Much Packed In!

Fast paced, danger, plenty of family drama, and of course love, makes for one hilarious story. In the first chapter after they signed the marriage licenses was such a hilariously funny line. When Evan turns to Leta and says” Lady, who the hell are you”? He married her , then wanted to know who she was , priceless! And there were so many of these moments. But the biggest shocker in the book came in Rick and Jake, down - low is real . This is on the favs list!

Modern Day Mail-Order Bride! What’s not to like?

This was a sweet, yet sexy small town love story with an interesting premise. Man needs to get married and have a kid to keep his land. Finds a mail-order bride who agrees to be his wife. When the woman shows up at the courthouse, she’s not the one he was expecting. And she’s Black!

Hilarious conversations ensue between the H and h that had me laughing out loud. Love that the author didn’t shy away from the topic of race that a lot of interracial romances avoid.

Recommend this book and will be trying this author again.

Wow wow!!!

I loved this. I really like this series. I love the humor, mystery, the small town atmosphere,& the falling in love. Not gonna lie, I cringed at the beginning of this story because no black woman with one working brain cell would do what leta did. Not only does it scream desperate but it's actually dangerous for a black woman to make a move like that involving a white man she doesn't know in a small lily white town. Once I got over the absurdity of that, I fell in love with the story.

You are quite honestly....

Becoming my favorite author!! Your books are ... Touching. The characters are real with a splash of "have you lost your mind"! The men are the men I wish to see in the world and the women are the bff's I hope to have one day. Just the right amount of spicy, steamy goodness lol. Gives me hope. I loved Evan lol he is the man of my dreams and I'm definitely more of a recluse than Leta. I can't wait to start from the beginning of this series. Oh tell your editor to do another look over. But definitely 5 stars!!

Donut love !

This book was so good I read it one day! Leta is a woman with standards and has caring soul! Evan is a man that is quite for a reason, and he is about his business. I love them together and how they work as a team. This book shows you how to have each others back and the simple things in life a beautiful. Evan is not going to let you play with his woman at all. Let and Evan are hot couple. This book is worth the read!
