Vampire Bound #3

Vampire Bound: Book Three

Evil Fae are trying to take over the world.
Okay, right—that’s actually old news.

Unfortunately, it’s even worse than that now. Because now, they intend to use my son—and other human children with magical parents—to do their dirty work for them.

The Fae realm is dying, its magic growing ever more unbalanced. And I guess by comparison, Earth looks like a nice, juicy alternative. They even have a foothold here, ever since the human world became spoils in the last war between the Fae and the demons—a war the demons lost.

All I wanted was to get my son back. But now, the stakes are bigger than just the two of us. If my friends and I can’t stop the Fae, humanity will become nothing more than a race of helpless slaves, bound to a powerful race by fear and magic.

I’m not alone in this fight. But every friend, every ally, every fragile new emotional connection is another weapon the Fae can use against me.

If the price of finding Jace is losing everything else I care about, will I be able to live with myself afterward?

USA Today bestselling author R. A. Steffan lives in New Mexico, where the sunsets paint the mountains purple, and roadrunners roam the desert endlessly in search of their coyote victims. When she’s not busy writing stories about people loving each other in all sorts of different and interesting ways, she can be found taking care of her small menagerie of critters.

A rebel to the core, she is currently sticking it to the man by illegally harvesting graywater from the kitchen and bathroom sinks to water trees outside. This fearless disregard for societal norms extends to her writing, as well. There, you will find polyamory along with straight, gay, bisexual, and non-gender conforming love of all flavors. You will also find families of choice, profound friendships, adventure, danger, and good triumphing over evil.

That, and sex. Lots of sex. Most of which is not the vanilla variety.

An exclusive excerpt just for you:

Downstairs, there was—thankfully—coffee. Also orange juice and Danish, along with ham, bread, and pre-packaged hard-boiled eggs. I was alone in the dining room for the first few minutes, but Zorah joined me as I was pouring a third cup of coffee.

She sat across from me, resting her chin on a cupped hand and staring at me. I felt the blush crawl up my neck, and swallowed a bite of Danish.

“What?” I asked, not able to stifle the hint of belligerence in my tone.

She shook her head at me slowly. “The walls here aren’t that thick, babe. So, am I going to need to start calling you Step-Grandma anytime soon?”

I groaned and shoved my paper plate out of the way, so I could let my head fall forward onto the table dramatically. “Stop. Seriously. Because this isn’t so much a relationship as a really hot mistake I keep making,” I told the chipped linoleum.

“Yeah… no,” Zorah said. “Trust me, babe. It’s a relationship. You two just haven’t realized it yet.”

So much anguish happened in this one, it made it a rough read. The rescue with Jace is coming full circle finally and the climax is coming!

R. A. Steffan's writing always keeps me at the edge of my seat!
The third instalment in the Vampire Bound series was one I waited for a long time (no, that's unfair, it was only three months but IT FELT like a long time because I really like this series). And it didn't disappoint. R. A. Steffan knows how to write urban fantasy romances with teeth and a backbone.

Vonnie and Guthrie are going through A LOT in this instalment and while I don't always agree with their choices, it feels true to the (very stubborn) characters that they would behave as they do. I think their slow burn of a story is interesting and different; I'm invested in how their romance progresses, but I'm also invested in all the other things that are happening in their lives.

Favorite moment: Fixing Guthrie's hair.
True MVP of the book: Albigard. Can't wait for his own book series!
WTF moment (as spoiler free as I can make it): Why, Jake, why?

Now let the waiting commence for Book Four, coming out in December.

Great installment in this spin off series from The Last Vampire. I had feared that a spin off could not compare with the original series, how wrong I was. The Vampire Bound series has gone from strength to strength with well developed characters and an exciting plot that keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. I truly cannot wait for the next book to see what happens, I have a feeling that it could be real dangerous to meddle with a mama bear's cub, she might just take your head off.
This is not a standalone, these books need to be read in order, preferably after reading The Last Vampire series.

Vampire Bound: 3

The continuation of the series is just as nerve wracking as the rest, Vonnie has to figure out how to go on and be strong for her son and Leonides has to figure out if he is going to keep living in the past or move on, the fFe have come up with a way to get a new kingdom and the humans are not going to like it. Be prepared for some heart wrenching situations and even surprising.

Nail biting

I’ve been excited to read this one, since I finished book 2. Oh my I could not put it down. The story is exciting from start to finish. Guthrie is going to be angry, he warned them, but they didn’t listen. Can’t wait for the conclusion.

Spoiler alert, I’m recapping how this ended so I can remember when book 4 comes out in December. Turn back now unless you want blatant spoilers.

Last chance.

Okay. She’s been glamoured to look like a teen and taken to the fae camp where all the other kidnapped teens are being held (on Easter Island, which was evacuated due to a flu or plague staged by the fae). Her fae accomplice was discovered and portalled away, leaving her there alone. Though Leo, her vamp boss/occasional lover, is also on the island in his non corporeal form. She found her son on the island and gave her pendant to him so that the fae could track her son and at least get him off the island if necessary. She also told her son that she had an accomplice and a way off the island, at which point he called for the guards and turned her in, not knowing it was his mom. I’m pretty sure the kids have all been fed the fae kool aid for the past few weeks, both psychologically and through fae powers, so I don’t really blame him for it. I think as she was being carted away, her son might have started to get an inkling that she was his mom. He might have recognized the pendant as hers. But, now she’s been outed to the fae in charge of the island, her glamour stripped (I think) and she doesn’t have her pendant, which blocked fae mind control and helped her focus her own magic. Leo is somewhere on the island with her, Albly (the good fae), and Leo’s granddaughter (who’s half vamp and half succubus, along with Rans (name?) Ledo’s makes and his granddaughters lover, are all out there on some nearby island. The end. Tune back in on December 1st.

Listener beware: This story ends on a major cliffhanger. You'll want to have part 4 ready so you can dive into it right away.

This continues the story of Vonnie trying to reunite with her son while building a slow-burn romance with Leonides as well as strengthening her bonds of friendship with Zorah, Rans, and even Albiguard. The action in this one is some of the best I've encountered from Steffan. The main centerpiece of the escape from the building is detailed and well done.

For fans of this series and universe, we get a nice visit from Edward, and Vonnie continues to grow her magic. She and Leonides aren't in a place where their feelings can be expressed easily. Leonides isn't good at showing that he cares. It's not obvious that they work, and yet they do.

Gwendolyn Druyor's narrator performance is excellent as always. At this point, I've listened to so many books with her narrating Steffan's works that I've run out of superlatives. She's excellent. Full stop.

To the potential reader/listener: You don't *have* to listen to The Last Vampire series to enjoy this, but you'd get a better understanding of the world and characters if you did. If you're determined to skip that, do yourself a favor and start with the first book in this series. Because of the cliffhangers and ongoing story, this isn't the kind of series you can jump into in the middle and make it have sense.

Recommended.

Finally, this series is getting into the meat of the story/plot. :) I would have to say that this book is why I will probably read the author's other series (The Last Vampire)! :) The plot of this book is not only that the Fae have stolen/taken Vonnie's son, Jase. As if this wasn't enough, our heroes discover that the Fae have a plan to take over Earth and make it their territory! To do this, they are kidnapping magically gifted children and making them into an army that will do the dirty work. THIS is the story that enlightens the reader about the entire plot.

The story is well-planned and well-written. The characters are very fleshed out (with both faults and virtues). The best part of this series is that the author keeps his characters true to who they are. Vonnie and Guthry both have issues that are kept true throughout the series (so far).

This book isn't perfect though. At times the book seemed too drawn out and the push and pull between Guthry and Vonnie became boring. But I am happy that the sex scenes were over quickly.
But the author was wise enough not to let each encounter between characters continue for too long before getting back to the plot. This book also continues to make the reader wonder about the loyalty of the other characters except for Guthry and Vonnie. The reader learned in the first book that Guthry and Vonnie are loyal to each other. The other characters? Well, the author keeps us guessing about them. ;)

3.5 stars I was rolling with this book through 9/10 of the story, but Vonnie ruined it in the end for me. I understand a mother's protective instinct for their child, but after all the danger and supernatural circumstances they have been through during the course of 2 and 9/10 books, it was disappointing to see her her disregard all of that hard won knowledge and act so rashly and foolishly. It would be one thing to put only herself in that kind of danger, but she is simultaneously endangering an entire group of people who are sticking their necks out to help her!

A great continuation to book two and amazing world-building. I won't go into it too much because I'll end up giving away some spoilers.
So I'll keep this simple, Vonnie is an amazing woman, and Guthier, or Leo as she calls him, is still my guy! Their journey is so full of twists and turns you just never know where they will end up next.
I mostly read RHs but I beyond love The Last Vampire universe and this spin-off series is freaking amazing. If you haven't started this series, it's a must-read.

Book3

I enjoyed book3 as I did the first 2in the series.
I feel so much description is given in the run up that the book runs out before you can get your teeth in to the story💭

Now I need to read book 4 to see if G & Vonnie manage to rescue Jace & realise they don't just fancy the pants off each other wen there's sucubus blood involved but all the time. . . . . . .

Sadly next book isn't out in the UK until December😢😢😢

Roll on December

Better than the last

I have read all of these and and the previous last vampire books. I nearly have up on this series as I thought the last book was poor. This was better as at least stuff happened and we are closer to a conclusion to the story. The angst between Vonnie and Leo is a bit tedious and there is a lack of humour which has been customary in the previous series. However, it was enjoyable.

Dragging it out too much!

The first book was brilliant the second was good, this one was dull for most of it. A few spelling mistakes creeping in as well and obvious plots. Halfway through I just wanted to finish it and read something else. The problem with reading series of books is that once you’re halfway through you want to know what happens.

Plenty of action and intrigue in this installment. Even though the story is written in first person the other characters seem to come to life. Great plot twists and love the slow burn romance between Leonides and Vonnie. Already started book four! Highly recommended for paranormal and urban fantasy lovers.

I finished this and book 4 today and honestly can't remember which incident happened in which book other than the grand finale which of course was book 4. I personally enjoyed The Last Vampire series more. Zorah and Rans were a lot more fun in their interactions whereas Vonnie and Guthrie are pretty dull in their tiptoeing around each other.

After all the preparations made to help Vonnie find her son Jace, she manages To really screw it up in less than five minutes of actually finding and talking to her son. Not only did she put herself, Jace, and Albigard in grave danger, Now the whole crew has to find a way to save her and her son from certain death. Way to go Vonnie!!! Most definitely not one would of my favorite characters

A bit slow moving

Compared to The Last Vampire I've struggled a bit with this series. It's a little slow moving and Vonnie and Leonides need their heads knocking together but I still like the ongoing story and love the fact that Rans and Zorah aren't relegated to the background.

I like the overall story and the universe of this series, as well as the characters. Some more than others. The main characters in this one are not so interesting overall, but the story makes up for it. I really want to know how this plays out.
