The Ultimate Slow Cooker by Linda Larsen is one of those cookbooks that takes care of all your needs. It is a big book, 499 pages and covers an introduction that talks about the basics.
The sections include breakfast and brunch, appetizers, snacks and drinks, vegetables and sides, then there are soups, stews and chilis, seafood and vegetarian meals, poultry, pork, beef and lamb, basics like sauces, and desserts.
There are recipes for a 3 qt or 6 qt, whether you want to make hot chocolate in the small cooker or a whole chicken in the 6 qt.
There are labels, meaning if the recipe is low calorie, gluten free, or vegetarian. there is information on the ingredients, basics such as cooking times and temps for the cookers. I love the tip part of each recipe, ingredient tip, a little lighter, if you have a minute, extra easy and game plan. Easy to read recipes, some with a bit longer prep time than others.
I think that this cookbook will have a prominent place on my cookbook shelves. I love to use my slow cooker and hope to use this book frequently.

This is a very comprehensive cookbook with many mouthwatering recipes. The recipes are seperated into handy sections based on what you have as the base of your dish. This would be a great title to tuck into a slowcooker as a house warming, wedding or even off to college gift.

For those of us who like fix-it-and-forget-it recipes (and who doesn't?), the slow cooker is one of our go-to kitchen appliances. This slow cooker cookbook is a wonderful addition to your shelf. It contains recipes of all types and for a wide variety of tastes.

As I read through it, I kept saying to myself "Mmmm, THAT sounds good!". After I'd said that numerous times, I knew this was a keeper. It would be difficult to NOT find recipes you want to make in this cookbook!

I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher. No review was necessary, and my review is strictly voluntary and unbiased.

With more than 225 recipes over 10 chapter categories of food types, this is the largest slower cooker (crock pot) cookbook that I have in my collection. I tried four recipes before writing this review -- Maple-Glazed Carrots, Turkey Sausage with Red Beans and Rice, Barbecue Chicken Drumsticks, and Dark Chocolate Brownies. I picked these recipes because I suspected that my entire family would love them but more importantly, because I had all the ingredients on hand. The first three recipes turned out great -- the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The brownies, however, were missing the final stage of instructions that told you how to cut and serve them plus the outside of them was harder than I'd like.

This cookbook had a few more photographs of the dishes in it than most of the RockRidge Press cookbooks I've reviewed in the past have. That's a big plus for any cookbook. I do really wish that such a large cookbook (over 300 pages) had a spiral binding so it was easier to open up to use.

You should know that the recipes are almost 100% from scratch so if finding or using fresh ingredients of all types is a challenge for you, this is not the cookbook you'll want. You also need several sizes of crockpots (slow cookers) to be able to use every recipes. You can use a larger one for smaller sizes but you really can't use a smaller crock for the big recipes very well.

I was sent a paperback version of this cookbook for free by the publisher in the hopes that I'd write a review; not other form of compensation was received in exchange for my sharing my experiences with it.

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy from the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

I have been looking for a good slow cooker cookbook for a long time. This one is exactly what I’ve been looking for. The prep time is short and the cook time is slow. And the recipes I’ve tried so far are delicious. I’m always looking for new ways to cook chicken, and there are several in The Ultimate Slow Cooker Cookbook that I’m wanting to try.

If you haven’t used a slow cooker much, the first chapter has “Slow-Cooking Basics” that will be helpful. Then there are nine chapters that have everything from breakfast to dessert. So many of the recipes look yummy! There is also a chapter called “Basics” that tells how to cook things that are used in many recipes such as vegetable stock or caramelized onions.

I’m so glad I got this book, and I definitely recommend it if you use a slow cooker.

I received an advance publishers copy.

The Ultimate Slow Cooker Cookbook is a dense cookbook with a large variety of recipes from breakfast to lamb to stock to desserts. Every one we have tried has been delicious. The index is phenomenal as it’s recorded under the name of the dish as well as the category (beef, etc.). Last, but also so critical, the recipes are given a label, including weeknight hero, which allows me to immediately focus on particular recipes needed same day. Most recipes ingredients were in house and the prep was basic. A new staple in our kitchen.
