One of the core themes of this entry into the Little People, Big Dreams series is being loyal to who you are. Rapinoe is a lesbian, has been on some level aware of that since she was young and has been out since 2012. It is uncommon to hear of queer sportspeople, those that exist are nearly all women. Rapinoe aims to be a leader among them and an example that you can be a top-level athlete and yourself at the same time. I think this is quite a well-balanced book. It balances the aspects of Rapinoe's life, sport, success, self and community work. It's not my favourite in the series.
Something in the art feels a bit off like maybe Morgan's art style wasn't the best choice. Colour choices maybe I don't know. Megan Rapinoe has a twin sister, Rachel both are featured heavily. In the early pages, they are identified by M and R on their clothes, later by their hairstyles. I do like the choice to keep her hairstyle the same even when the colour changes. It was inevitable that the colour has to change but the style means young readers know exactly who they are looking at or for. The end pages are not quite what I expected. I expected footballs but the choice to add confetti was a brilliant touch given Rapinoe's long-running success. Both personal and as a part of a team.
