Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
This was a very well written story line. Art was perfect as well. New characters were introduced to breath new life into the Star Wars universe. I really enjoyed this Commander Zahra (Tarkin was her mentor). I like her origin so to speak. She is driven. She has a purpose and a destiny that ties in with Leia. I am looking forward to more stories with Zahra.
Ah, Tarkin, the Star Wars novel that keeps on giving...
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad comic by any stretch of the imagination, I'm just getting tired of what feel like endless call backs to the Tarkin novel, and the fact that every comic has to include a pointless reference to the High Republic right now...would probably be less annoying if the High Republic stuff hadn't ended up being delayed until next year.
But, more significantly, I don't really buy the Death Star's destruction, and Tarkin's death, as a motivation for Commander Zahra's specific grudge against Princess Leia. It's not like Leia was directly involved in the attack on the Death Star or even coordinated it from the ground.
Nevertheless, it was an excellently illustrated comic, and despite the issues I raised above it's still a well written book. I guess I'm anxious to see the plot take some bigger strides in bridging the gap between Empire and Jedi. Maybe it would be nice to follow Lando in his quest to find Han for a while...?
Catching up on Charles Soules main Star Wars Comic that fills the gap between ESB and ROTJ leaves me extremely excited to dive into his first Star Wars novel The Light of the Jedi in the near future. While I've also read issue #8 it's not on here yet but I'd mark it at around the same star level. This arc though was fantastic. I loved Luke's arc post defeat at Bespin and the ongoing struggle of the Rebel Alliance has been exciting to say the least.
Madonna questo numero mi ha fatto volare, come qualsiasi cosa in cui compaiono le dinamiche dell’Impero (infatti mi ha ricordato molto il primo romanzo su Thrawn) e qui il focus è nientemeno che su Tarkin. Molto, molto bello.
It gets tiring writing the same thing over and over again about Charles Soule’s mastery of storytelling. Let’s just say “Read this, you won’t be sorry” and leave it at that, shall we?
Excellent start to a new arc. Loved the callbacks to the Tarkin novel and the reference to the Nihil who will be a big part of the High Republic stories.
I know he is a fan favorite, but as a kid watching the original trilogy, I never thought twice about Tarkin, that being said, it’s cool to see how they are really fleshing out his character.
