Ancient enemies, new allies, a history of violence, and modern warfare all come to a head, as Andy and Nile reconcile the sins of the past with the promise of the future…and carnage ensues.
Soon to be a major motion picture starring Charlize Theron and KiKi Layne, THE OLD GUARD roars back! From the acclaimed New York Times-bestselling team of GREG RUCKA and LEANDRO FERNÁNDEZ and the stellar artistic talents of DANIELA MIWA, JODI WYNNE, and ERIC TRAUTMANN.
Greg Rucka, is an American comic book writer and novelist, known for his work on such comics as Action Comics, Batwoman: Detective Comics, and the miniseries Superman: World of New Krypton for DC Comics, and for novels such as his Queen & Country series.
Trying to make Andy feel guilty about dealing with slaves over 6,000 years ago seems off base to me! Andy is the product of her times and has had hundreds of lives. No one on earth can judge her behavior. What has she evolved into?
While I enjoyed the Netflix movie of the Old Guard, I was not too fond of the major change that Greg introduced into the movie storyline, about Andy not healing. He is the writer so I guess it was a change that he wanted to make. Getting ready to take Andy out of the script? Guess it will keep us fans guessing as to what changes will appear in the 2nd Old Guard movie as OPPOSED to the changes that will appear in the 3rd Arc of The Old Guard in the comics. Which one is canon? Movie or comic?
Man, this is going to be a long long wait for part 3 - Fade Away. Man what an amazing issue and the series and the characters and the story and the fun. All amazing, Thanks to Netflix for introducing the wonderful thing to us ignorant folks.
I have always loved comics, and I hope that I will always love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics or Diamond Comics or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on the international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I can. I Love comics to bit, may comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and then just Keep on Reading.
I love how everybody there is gay as fuck. I mean two canonical queer couples, one gay and one lesbian, this is so great.
It was easier to read the second series than the first, I got used to the terrible way the faces of males are drawn. It was way more exciting than the first series as well. I love the parts about Noriko and her crazy revenge and I have no idea how they're gonna fit it in the second movie, since for the sake of unnecesary drama they stripped Andy of her powers in the adaptation. She won't survive Noriko's/Quynh hello, not to talk about the part about drowning revenge.
Book is back and all is forgiven, Nicky spends a quality time with his sniper riffle, though the immortal husbands touch way less than in the first series. We have a lot of very good flashbacks that show us how tired Andy is. For me the flashbacks are the power of this comic, and the movie was set too much in the present. The more the flashbacks are about the past long gone, being alone, then being together, the more Andy is lost in the present and tired and I prefer the comic Andy over the movie Andy.
Anyway, this got me excited for the sequel.
I kinda don't like Nile at the end and how she fougt with Andy over slavery. I mean, yes, slavery is a big issue but also a) Andy fights slavery these days b) in her times slavery fas a daily shit. She regrets it but she won't change who she was and the times she comes from. If she didn't regret or understand the wrongness of it, yeah, that would be a big issue. But Andy is busy stopping human trafficking these days. Also she has right to be fucking tired, she is almost 7000, you are 27, Nile, give the woman a break.
Also the faceless gay covers of issues 2 and 5 are awesome.

(Guess who just decided to read all current issues of The Old Guard in one sitting? Oh yes, it's me)
LET ME JUST SCREAM INTO THE VOID FOR A MOMENT. DAMN. What a finale! Definitely not what I was expecting. Again we see the characters think about second chances, immortality, humanity, being moral, and more. This is both exciting and heartbreaking, I can't wait for Book 3!
Lots of action to conclude the second arc. However, the end spoiled it. The whole slavery issue is out of left field (we’re talking ancient slavery, not American slavery), and the changes of allegiance and character choices make no sense based on all that we’ve read so far. Why is everyone silent at the end regarding the decision Nile makes? Why doesn’t Copley share what he’s learned about Andy’s actions? The conclusion leaves a poor taste in what has been a great series.
The ending made little sense to me, even though I do feel curious about where this will be going. You cannot judge a 7 thousand year old character like you would a normal person, and even if you decide to do that, you should expect certain wisdom above torture. We are talking about a character who counts her years by millenia. At the same time I can imagine her being tired of it all and why not just unwilling to respond. Probably this has happened before, not one buy many times. However, there's is a lack of depth in these old people that keeps bothering me. A thousand years just to think, there must be something else, even if it's madness.

I cannot wait for the conclusion of this, but I am so afraid of what might be ahead. This issue did nothing that I expected & I love/hate that. I wanted better for & from Andy. I want the nobler end that the movie teased. Or a simpler finale for her centuries at war. More than anything, though, I want a series devoted to Joe & Nicky from the Crusades to current. I want that as a neverending story, so PLEASE, dear creators of this series, do not kill Joe & Nicky.
Tis episode makes me think of Billie Eilish's song "Everything I wanted" The whole song is such OST for this episode. I hate that the "band" just left her like that. But I am also excited to see what will happen now that Noriko and Andy are "together".
Well, that cliffhanger is going to piss me off until the next one is out (this was released this month), and the break between the first 5 and this last 5 was A YEAR AND A HALF so.
