Najimi’s sudden declaration of a Christmas Eve party at Komi’s house sends the friends into a flurry of last-minute gift shopping and Komi into a fit of worrying. But when her friends all turn up with good cheer and a giant stuffed animal for her, it turns out Najimi wasn’t just being impulsive—there’s a special surprise for Komi too!
ODA Tomohito Name (in native language):小田智仁 Associated Names:オダトモヒト
Tomohito Oda won the grand prize for World Worst One in the 70th Shogakukan New Comic Artist Awards in 2012. Oda’s series Digicon, about a tough high school girl who finds herself in control of an alien with plans for world domination, ran from 2014 to 2015.
Komi is super popular despite her aloof reputation. Only timid Tadano seems to notice that she doesn't talk... ever! When she reaches out to him on the first day of class he quickly realizes it's awkwardness holding her back. Now he'll become her first friend in her quest to make 100 friends.
Komi Can’t Communicate vol 7 celebrates winter and the Christmas season. And of course that means a party, snowball fight and family. The snowball fight was especially hilarious as Komi was so out of her element. And I loved seeing more of her family. Her brother and grandmother especially were highlights. Poor Tadano got the brunt of the friends jealousy which is so funny because he was the instigator for them to see Komi!
My favorite scenes though were when Komi and Tadano were able to connect. Like their date with Katai which was really magical and the final chapter of the volume which made my heart melt. Tadano is refreshingly normal amongst the offbeat friends they share, which makes me love him more. While I’d love for there to be more between him and Komi I also feel like he makes the best friend.
Komi Can’t Communicate is a series I love for its laughs, excellent art and lovely relationships. It’s fresh and refreshing to be so delighted with each new adventure.
Last volume was Thanksgiving, so this one is Christmas and New Year's. The catalyst for action is always the energetic (manic?) Najime, who announces a Christmas party AT Komi's house, which also happens to coincide with Komi's birthday! But for someone with social anxiety disorder, to host a group at her house! Yikes!
So she has to buy a gift, and requires her (also quiet, shy) brother to go along to the mall, which is, as with her quiet Dad, a comical and sweet occasion. How to accomplish life with as little talking as possible?! There's a family gathering, playing cards with Grandma, snowman building, snowball fights, ice skating. And new shy guy Katai tries to work his way into friendship with Komi and Tadano.
Komi continues to be a gentle, oh-so-adorable, and delightful bit of fluff. It's winter, so this time around we have Christmas shopping and a party, New Year's shrine visits and a family gathering, snowman building and snowball fights, and ice skating.
Volume seven depicts winter perfectly. Christmas, New Year's, and the first shrine visit of the year are all highlights of the season. Komi reveals she was born around the winter solstice, perhaps that is why she may appear frigid serene, but that is just her communication disorder, she actually wants to spread the cheer.
Another excellent volume, I always look forward to the release oi a new one.
These books are still good. But, like I've said before, most aren't very memorable. It seems like the books aren't getting the point of the series.
Komi is making friends, but I feel like the friends she's making hardly every show up. It's just the same few friends that appear on every volume. This volume, she did make friends during a snowball fight. But they were, like, elementary schoolers, and when it's she every gonna see them again? And she doesn't make any new friends for the rest of the volume. It's just a lot of random things.
Perhaps that is the point. There are a few close friends she makes that she does fun things with, and makes unimportant friends along the way. But, if that is the point, I think the series is misleading.
If it gets more obvious later in the series that the point isn't to make memorable friends, I will consider giving the books higher ratings. But, so far, if that's the point, it's not very clear.
Continues to be cute, this time taking the story out of school over winter break, Christmas and New Years. The Christmas Eve/Birthday party was pretty cute, and Tadano is a sweet character who is very thoughtful. The plot is still not super deep, but it's a good slice of life story. Check out my YouTube channel for bookish videos and monthly wrap ups!
Komi stays fun enough to read but I really feel like they can do more to advance the characters. Make them more fun. I like Komi and her relationship with the main lead male but the rest are forgettable and sometimes annoying. The christmas shopping chapter was really cute though.
OMG, this manga series keeps getting better and better. I love the strong character development, and also the Christmas, New Years, winter, and holidays vibes in this volume. I also thought Komi’s gift was also cute. I also love how Tadano and Komi’s relationship is getting stronger and stronger, especially Komi making Tadano feel better towards the end especially during the flu season.
Another great installment in a fantastic shojo manga series!
I really love this series and just the friendships being made and just doing all normal things and just it’s so cute! I love seeing Komi and all her friends she’s made hang out and enjoy the holidays and just all of it.
But this slow burn between Komi and Tadano just please get together and admit that you’re both into each other because they’d be so cute but they’re so nervous with each other it’s sad that they aren’t together yet. But I also get it that they haven’t yet. Even though it’s so sad. They’ve got such a cute friendship and I just know their relationship would be just as adorable!
The winter holidays are here so we see Komi celebrate Christmas (which is also her birthday) by having a gift exchange party with friends and her meeting her grandma during New Year’s. We later see her grocery shopping and learning how to ice skate. A (100%/Outstanding)

i always appreciate how fun and easy this series is to read and you can go through a volume very quickly and easily! i feel like the shorter chapters makes it more digestible for me at least😅
