Being a writer can be... interesting.

Walking down the street and watching people go about their day-to-day life, but thinking strange, even dangerous things.

I still clearly remember the day I stood at the traffic lights in downtown Melbourne. There she was, sitting in her car, waiting for the lights to change green. Tapping her fingers impatiently.

Something inside my head went off. Kaboom! An idea formed, and became the beginning of a novel.

Instead of sitting patiently at the lights, she was nervous, extremely anxious as she was being pursued by killers. The next thing she knew, an angry, crazy man was slamming her windscreen with a sledgehammer and she was running for her life.

Yes, the life of a writer is quite unique.

A cute story of a mail-order bride. Millie’s first husband was a sheriff who was KIA. She then has to move out of the house they had for the new sheriff and his wife to move in. Though she’s uncertain she becomes a mail-ordered bride. Daniel Carson brings her in.

Super short and cute. I loved both Millie and Daniel.

This is an OK mail-order bride romance, with mostly likable characters, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.

First, it was just too short to have enough character development. I wanted more backstory on both Millie and Daniel, but especially on Daniel.

It was also totally unrealistic that Millie fell in love with Daniel so quickly. She was a new widow, and she had deeply loved her husband -- so I just didn't buy that she would fall in love with another man so fast. One minute she is still crying all the time, and the next she is in love with Daniel? I don't think so.

One thing that really irritated me about this story was the idea that it was shameful for Millie to be pregnant with her first husband's baby. She was a widow -- of course she could be pregnant! And for Daniel to act like she had done something wrong by being pregnant made me really not like him much. He did get better, but his initial reaction to that news was really kind of awful.

This is a clean romance, with nothing but kisses. If you only want to read romances that do not include sex scenes, this one might work for you.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Oh, Baby!

Millie's first husband was a sheriff. They were so much in love and never insiders that so!r might come when they were no longer together. Outlaws killed him within a few weeks of becoming sheriff. Millie could not stand staying in that town and possibly giving birth there. She contacted a matrimonial service and relocated.

Millie's second husband was loving and accepted the baby as his own, even though Millie had tried to hide evidence of her pregnancy, he showered her with gifts and loved the baby from the time he realized a baby was on the way.

Read this book to see how he cherished his wife and baby

Daniel seems in a hurry throughout this book - picking Millie up from the stagecoach, going to the church to be married, buying Millie a new coat and never truly talking things through with Millie especially the Cinderella moments that Daniel and Mrs Baker take for granted without considering Millie at all. Millie is a widow and due to her dead Sheriff husband becomes a Mail Order Bride to Daniel, Millie goes through an internal struggle with the abrupt changes in her life and quick pregnancy has physical adjustments to adjust to as well. The epilogue seemed to reveal more information and have a slower pace.

Mail Order Millie begins the Widows, Brides, and Secret Babies. What a great start for this series! I really felt sorry for Millie in the beginning and I felt like crying for her. She had to do what was best for herself and I admire her courage to do so. Daniel quickly grew on me and thought he was so sweet to Millie. I loved them both dearly. I highly recommend this quick sweet romance. It is a great read.
I received this book from the Kindle Unlimited program and was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

A truly sweet story

Millie and her Sheriff husband moved to Little Rock early in their marriage. They were given free rent and a furnished home. He would need to fix and rid that town of a terrible gangster group. It proved to be something he could not win making her a widow. Of course she would lose the free home as it was needed for the next sheriff. What to do? She decided to become a mail order bride. The story goes on to tell of the baby she was expecting and how her new husband's reaction to the news. Well, the story is a wonderful story of love. Well worth your read

This is a great, afternoon read. The storyline is engaging and characters well developed and believable. Millie, a very, very recent widow, is desperate. She realizes if she does not become a mail order bride, she is going to be homeless and penniless. This is bad enough, having just buried her husband, but soon after marrying Daniel, Millie strongly and rightly suspects she is pregnant with her first husband's child. To this point, things seemed to be going well. Will Daniel demand an annulment? Will Millie leave? Will it work out favorable?

This is an excellent beginning of this series. Millie has just lost her husband of 3 months and has to leave their home almost immediately to make room for new tenants. so, she becomes a mail order bride for Daniel who lives in Montana. Not knowing she is pregnant by her first husband, Millie and Daniel begin to know each other and even fall in love. Then Daniel finds out she is pregnant. Will he accept her baby? Read it and find out what happens.

A sweet and heartwarming story that I was able to finish in one sitting. The main characters are well-developed and relatable. I especially enjoyed Daniel who despite his wealth is a simple, down-to-earth man. The storyline exemplifies the few choices presented to women of this era if they found themselves widowed. I loved how the mercantile owner’s wife took Millie under her wing. Very enjoyable light read.

short and sweet

This is a short and sweet read by Cheryl Wright. Mail Order Millie is a widower. She had only been married for a few months before her husband, a sheriff, dies. What is she to do but become a mail order bride and marry. Daniel owns a business, a saw mill, and has the money to support Millie in ways she never thought. After just a few days of marriage Millie finds out she is going to have a baby from her first husband. What is she to do? A nice sweet read.

Another great story penned by Cheryl Wright. This is a sweet and heartwarming story about Millie and Daniel. Millie, a widow, agrees to become a mail order pride totally unaware she is expecting a baby. The couple certainly have some issues to work through if they are to reach a HEA. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it.

Millie's story

Millie and her new husband, Cody have just settled into their new little cabin. He's a sheriff, but didn't tell Millie the dangers he would be facing. When tragedy strikes, Millie needs to make a major decision. Will her heart allow her to follow through?

Sweet and tender HEA 💞

Sweet Story

I can only get imagine being depressed, frightened, and as shy as Millie in this short novel.
I noted the indoor plumbing in the story but she had ridden in a stage coach so I had trouble understanding the date the novel was based on. Daniel, Mrs. Baker, and Mrs. Davis were all very caring individuals making this a sweet story.

Great read!

I came back to start the “Widows, Brides, and Secret Babies” after finding one of the later books in this series. Each is a stand alone and does not need to be read in any order but I’m glad I started at the beginning.
