Read this book for my toddler's bedtime. Excellent facts about each planet in our solar system. Written for kids so it's easier to read and understand. There are definitions within the story for big words but there is a glossary at the end of the book if readers want to know more. There are information about the moon, asteroids, and dwarf planets. There is information about the sun and which planet we can see with our eyes. My toddler and I enjoyed this book greatly.
Thank you Callisto Publishing for the opportunity to read and review.
Kids need to learn about the wonder of the solar system and space, which is why “My First Book of Planets” would be a good option for them to use to start off with this topic. This book is recommended for kids 2-6 years old, and I rated this book 4 stars. This book talks about each planet and the important information about that planet. Plenty of vocabulary words and facts are used to help children understand what is in space and how it is important to a planet. I really liked the language used in this book as it uses plenty of vocabulary words. Vocabulary words are a great way for younger kids to understand important information. A glossary is also included at the end of the book with very clear definitions of the vocabulary words used in the book. I do also enjoy the pictures that are used as they use proper colors and details to give kids the best representation possible. The pictures are also labeled with important objects on a planet such as a moon or a ring of ice around the planet. I really did enjoy this book as I feel it was a great idea to use for kids. I do feel that in my opinion, the age group could be extended to around 9 years old because it could be used in many elementary school classrooms as a resource. I also feel that some kids might not know the critical information and details until middle school, so I feel the age range could be brought up some. I would 100% put and use this book in a classroom. This is one of the best ways to use a resource such as this for learning in the classroom. This book would be used for science and how kids can learn the solar system and what is around us.
“My First Book of Planets” is a nonfiction book written for children ages 3-6 years old. It is about astronomy and explains each planet throughout the book. This book is very informative when learning about the different planets and space. I have this book a 4 star because there is so much information for each planet as you go through the book. Children would learn a lot from this, even if they are just curious about one planet. It is very well organized and the illustrations are very well matched with the text. It includes realistic photo images of the planets. I also loved how it included little fun facts that children would be interested in. For example, when the text described Venus, it has a little bubble that says “the bubbles in side has the same gas that makes up a lot of the atmosphere on Venus.” I did not know that little fun fact and I’m sure that children would find that super interesting. I didn’t give this book a 5 star because I feel that it is entirely too long for the younger children to stay focused on. I think that it is too much information at once for 3-4 year olds and may overwhelm them. Other than that, I definitely recommend! When working with children, I would use this book when teaching about space and the planets. I would only teach one planet at a time, that way they won’t be overwhelmed with too much information.
This book is a nonfiction book intended for children four to eight years old. This book is about the planets and how they were discovered. This book gives factual information about each planet and where they are in outer space. I rated this book five stars because the illustrations are bright and vibrant to help catch the young reader's attention. This book teaches the kids about the solar system by having them match the planets to their names based on their description. If you are teaching your children/ students about the solar system or just want to learn about the planets, this is the book to start with.
I like books that make complicated subjects easy to understand.
When it is a children’s book in the first place; I can’t go wrong.
I have a lot to unlearn from my time watching the BBC’s “Sky at Night”. There are only 8 planets now in our solar system as Pluto got downgraded sometime ago.
Now here is a book that informs and impacts facts for the here and now. A must for all children to grasp the night sky and our place orbiting the Sun. It is presented in such a way that young minds will want to learn more and long may they be encouraged to look up and into telescopes.
A much neglected subject in my opinion; so I hope this and other such books enthuse a new generation.
My First Book of Planets by Bruce Betts was one of the most memorable books from my childhood. It introduced me to the wonders of space in a way that was simple, colorful, and exciting. I remember being fascinated by the vivid illustrations of each planet and the fun facts that made them come alive like Venus being hotter than Mercury, or Saturn having the most spectacular rings. The book made complex ideas feel accessible, sparking my curiosity about the solar system and science as a whole. .
Ok this is a children's book but I thought I would give it a go as although I am interested in the planets my education on them is very limited - as I found our last night after my children tested me.
I enjoyed the quick read but the book doesn't work well on a Kindle. Some of the words are obscured and you can't see the pictures. Also, importantly, when I was showing off my knowledge last night with the children they were questioning some of the facts.
All in all I enjoyed it but it I am 47 years older than the audience it was written for!
Bought for a 4yo I haven't had a chance to give to yet, but I read it before wrapping it up and enjoyed it! I appreciate any material that includes Pluto (the reason I bought it in the first place) and I LOVE the couple of extra pages at the end that encourage its reader to draw a planet! Science and creativity, my favorite combo! (I will update when I hear about 4yo's opinion on book.)
I have been reading Project Hail Mary and for two weeks. Some words and concepts about the universe confused me. So I bought this book to read as a thirty-year-old. It's easy to understand and picture the whole solar system. My husband and I all love the book.
Some poetic concepts I love the most: Many Moons 21 Years of Winter The Sun is a Star
This book will teach kids to be able to view the entire solar system through pictures and facts that are provided in the book. Both of these things provided in the book show and describe what makes each planet so special, for example, their size, distance from the sun, what the surface is like, and how many moons they have. This book is very informational for any child!
I bought this book for my 5 year old. He loves art and images in this book are lovely. The text is simple and very helpful for anyone learning or doing research.
Little Man is interested, but maybe too young for this kind of book. He also was annoyed that the book didn't have any pictures of the dragons that he believes live on Mars.
This book is an excellent introduction for children to learn about the basics of astronomy. My five-year-old son really loves space, so this was a total score for us. I also love the photos, illustrations and fun facts. 👍🏼
This is a very informative book to help young children discover all about outer space and our universe. Children can learn a bunch of facts about each planet including Earth. It has beautiful illustrations and bold photos to keep kids engaged and excited to learn about our universe.
This book is all my two year old wants to read. He is CAPTIVATED! Love love love it for the simplicity of concepts, the actual images or realistic artists renderings, and just the right amount of information on each page to keep his interest. Thank you, Bruce Betts!
This was really well done and I learned things I didn’t know before, and now all my kids want to go to space one day. Information included is accessible and exciting for all ages!
I think this is a great informational book for kids to learn about the solar system. It's written in a fun, easy layout for kids to read and understand.
