If you’re looking for a Robin Hood book, as I was, then this isn’t it. Yes, there’s a lad in it who is known as Robin Hood, but his real name is Grayson and he lives at home with his mum and dad. Yes, they live in Sherwood Forest, but it’s more modern-day America Sherwood Forest than England in the Middle Ages.
There is no Much, no Little John, no Will Scarlett, no Allan-a-dale, no Gisborne. There’s a Sheriff, who is suitably vile, and there is Marion - the main character. Who’s also a teenager.
This isn’t set in medieval times - it’s set in some futuristic-type land, and Nottingham, under the rule of the Sheriff, is some kind of dystopia. There are metal horses, guns, TV’s, and robots.
Basically, it’s young adult through and through, and isn’t badly written at all. But it’s very much aimed at teenagers, and it is nothing like the legend we know and love, apart from the fact that Robin/Grayson’s gang use bows and arrows - and also have arrow tattoos!
I’m not going to say I hate it because I don’t. But I expected something different, which is why I’ve only given it 3 stars (which isn’t a bad rating!) I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the trilogy though as it isn’t really my kind of thing. But it is a decent story.
