Who reports a homeless person missing? They’re already missing.
Three years ago, Brianna Matthews became a victim at the hand of powerful men and barely escaped with her life because her friend cared enough to search for her. From that moment on, she lived her life trying to pay the favor forward by working in a women’s shelter for abuse victims. When her coworker and a former resident in the shelter doesn’t show up for work, Brianna must find her. Enlisting the help of Homicide Detective Aaron Jeffers to go with her to check in on her friend, little does she know they would end up walking in the underworld of Cleveland’s homeless community.
They make the perfect target. In finding Brianna’s coworker seriously ill, they promise to find her friend, a homeless man, only to discover his body in an abandoned building. Aaron, accustomed to seeing the dead, suspects this may be more than the natural passing of one Vietnam Vet living on the street.
The corpse is drained of blood.
Another body is found in a more public setting, this time with an attachment to the women’s shelter. Fearing Brianna might be in danger, Aaron keeps her with him as the investigation, along with their relationship, deepen. As the new Edgars Security and Investigations Group lends a hand, one of their own goes missing. Can Aaron and Brianna find their friend before the killer claims another victim?

Suzanne's sexy stories, whether they are her on the edge of your seat romantic suspense or the heartwarming small town stories or historical suspense novels, will keep you thinking about her characters long after their Happy Ever After is achieved.
Here's a short excerpt from DRAINED: Detective Aaron Jeffers’ favorite day of the week was Wednesdays.
Mondays sucked. Not like it did for regular nine-to-five workers. No, Mondays held a special suckiness when you were a homicide detective. If you worked the weekend, you spent Monday bringing the higher-ups up to date on any case you caught over the weekend, explaining why you haven’t closed it and all the other fun paper-work parts of the job. If you were lucky enough to be off the entire weekend, then your name was first up for whatever tragedy brought on by human greed, jealousy, evil or stupidity resulted in a dead body.
Fridays weren’t any better. While the rest of the working world was busy getting excited about their weekend off—planning family activities, get-togethers, sporting events and parties—the detectives were trying to close up cases and praying that the phone didn’t ring before they could get out of the office if they had the weekend off. And if they had the weekend on call, that was a whole other problem.
Actually, any day could suck when you worked homicide.
Wednesdays held a bright spot for Aaron for a totally different reason.
He looked up as the front door to the restaurant opened and in walked the reason, Brianna Matthews. As the tall, statuesque blonde hurried through the lunch crowd to their usual table almost every male head in the place turned to admire her beauty and the soft sway of her hips. Not that she paid them any attention. In the three years he’d known her, she not only ignored the unwanted attention, she tried hard not to elicit it—jeans, and a turtleneck sweater, that didn’t quite fit her form, but hinted at all the lush curves underneath; the messy pony tail meant to hide it’s natural curls, instead gave the illusion of having just climbed out of bed; the lack of makeup couldn’t quite hide the lovely complexion and small freckles scattered across her cheeks and pert nose.
As she reached the table, he stood and took her hand for a second of hello. No hug, not fake kisses on the sides of the cheek. The brief hand holding was all the touching she’d allow him. It was all she allowed anyone.
“Sorry I’m a little late,” she said after she’d draped her wool coat over the back of her chair and they were seated, scooping the big dark sunglasses off her face and leveling her deep blue eyes at him. The small scars around her left eye were barely visible these days and most people would think them early wrinkles. But he knew the truth of how she’d gotten them. “I’ve had a bit of a bad morning over at the shelter.”
“Something happen?” he asked, fighting the tension in his voice. Right before they’d first met, she’d been kidnapped and tortured in the state-wide sex trafficking scandal. In fact, the night they met, he was the one who carried her out of the ring-leader’s mansion. He knew she’d been seeing a counselor since the incident, and he suspected she had some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder going on. Who wouldn’t? The last thing he wanted to do was trigger her anxiety with his natural tendency to see danger in anything that strayed from the status quo.
This is Brianna's story, she was Abby's best friend in the book "Vanished" . Brianna knows her life is just a shell of what it used to be since being kidnapped and tortured by a ring of sex traffickers 3 years ago. She decides she needs to start living again and starts working at a women's shelter. When one of her co-workers disappears she teams up with Detective Aaron Jeffers, the man who rescued her all those years ago to try and solve the mystery. This story well-written with great characters and a well-developed storyline. Brianna and Aaron were both likable and interesting character. The suspense and action, combined with the love story kept me turning the pages from beginning to end. I received an advanced readers copy of this book through Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
I am a long-time Suzanne Ferrell fan, especially her Edgars series. I have been waiting impatiently for the next installment. Finally, I discovered her new surprise release, Drained. Drained is the story of Brianna, Abby's friend, introduced in Vanished. This installment did not disappoint. Brianna joins forces with Detective Jeffers and with the help of the Edgars family solves the case and brings the killer to justice. Suzanne tackles a serial killer with her own unique and enjoyable style. My only complaint is that it is too long between books . I am still waiting for the story of the Edgars cousin introduced in Capital Danger.

Suzanne Ferrell has given another really exciting story. I think that it was interesting seeing Brianna's story, since we got to learn about her character a bit in Suzanne's earlier book, 'vanished'. I can't imagine how difficult it would be to continue your life after you've been kidnapped and tortured, but she wants to try again. When her co-worker disappears, she works with Detective Aaron to try and find her. The start of their romance and the suspense that this story is packed full of, makes this a story that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

DRAINED is the sixth book in the Edgars Family Novels series. This is an intriguing romantic suspense story with great characters, missing people, murder, mystery, suspense, and romance. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
I was happy to see this latest book in the series was Aaron and Brianna's story who were a big part of book 4 which was over 6 years ago. Brianna was the best friend of Abby who had been kidnapped and tortured by a ring of sex traders. This book picks up 3 years after she was rescued.
Brianna Matthews knew she had been living a shallow life before her kidnapping. Afterwards dealing with both physical and mental therapy she decided she wanted to do something better with her life and has been working at a women's shelter. When one of her coworkers goes missing she asks Detective Aaron Jeffers, the man who rescued her all those years ago, to help in trying to find her friend. Neither of them knew that once they found her this would kick of the search for a serial killer who was taking homeless people and draining them of blood.
Aaron and Brianna make a formable team in trying to figure out who is taking these people with one even having ties to the women's shelter. Aaron utilizes everyone to help in their quest including Edgars Security and Investigations Group along with retired US Marshall Frank Costello.
Enjoyed being back in the Edgar's world and it's never a dull moment with the suspense, action and of course the love story.
Brianna runs a women’s shelter, her personal life is closed not trusting men or herself, from past experiences. When a worker Paula doesn’t show up for work, Detective Aaron goes with her to check. Concerned about a homeless man, Paula almost lost her life. Brianna and Aaron take over looking for him, finding a death that was not natural. For them working together was good for both of them , and to uncovered the demons that caused the killer to kill people this way. Good series once again by the author.
Wow ... this book went way beyond my expectations. I cannot wait to check out more of this series! Excitement, suspense, and a bit of romance round out this thriller.
Brianna is so much stronger than she knows. It is amazing what she has endured. Aaron has been in love with her for years but knows that she isn't ready for him to declare his love. She has put him in the friend zone for now, but he hopes to change that soon. When Aaron goes with her to check on a friend, he has no idea what kind of trouble they will find. They find plenty of trouble and they need to find the killer before more people are killed. Will Brianna finally realize that she too is in love?
Amazing book. Ms. Ferrell has done it again. She has grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go until the last page. Brianna Matthews was worried about a coworker, and told Detective Aaron Jeffers about it. He goes with her. What they find is one sick women. It leads so so much more. A lost homeless man, and his dog. Paula is looking for Art, and when they find him it’s not good. Aaron reaches out to someone who can help. He never once dismissed Brianna in helping in the investigation.
Another great romantic suspense from Suzanne Ferrell. Brianna and Aaron made a great couple. I liked the inclusion of past characters from the Edgars family series.
Whenever I read a Suzanne Ferrell book, I find myself involved in an exciting Adventure. Drained does not disappoint. Looking for a friend becomes a search for a serial killer. Suzanne uses humor and intensity to solidify their bond and dependency upon each other. When called on for help, the Edgars clan reunites and further works to resolve and improve the lives of their friends and others. I enjoy seeing the friends I’ve made in each book reappear to provide support for each other.
