The darkness fell. He broke through it anyway. Now another boundary appears, another supposed king, with another false ceiling, demanding that Wes accept his victories and go back home. That he go no farther. But his people, his throne, and the woman he loves are still on the other side. So now Wes Malcolm chooses to wage war on the ancient powers reigning in the supposed heavens. Because they are not his heavens, not his gods. And these are not his skies.
If you've enjoyed the series so far, this will just be more goodness.
One of the great things about this series is that the main protagonist continues to maintain his character throughout the story. Yes, there's growth and character development, but Wes stays true to the premise, regardless of what is being thrown at him.
If you enjoy a story that has a good side and a bad side and the main character is the archetype of the hero, then you will enjoy the series and this book in particular.
Plot: I had a very hard time getting into this book. Don’t get me wrong, it is a well written story, but the first half of the book involved a lot of emotional issues and getting in touch with their feelings. Way more than I wanted to slog through. There are a few fights, but they end rather quickly.
Characters: I’m tired of all the drama from all of them. 5/10
This series just keeps getting better! The fantasy and litrpg elements are outstanding but even better are the encouraging elements that simple every day actions are worth the challenge. Next one please!
I have been waiting anxiously for each book in this series and have enjoyed every one of them. I would definitely recommend this series. I am looking forward to the next book.
The simplest way to sum up the fifth book is, Wes rules. Stimulating and challenging the book pulls the reader along for an emotional ride. Relationships grow, feelings exposed and family reunions make the bulk of the book on the good and bad side. An excellent job Nathan, enjoy your break and hurry up Fall.
I love this series. I will say that first. I have enjoyed all of the books, this one however took some time to get to the heart of some things that were not as exciting. It had some action but not as much as some of the previous books. That is perfectly fine with me for this book. The stories and characters were able to take a moment and grow with self reflection and the help of each other. Overall I think it was a great book and look forward to the next in the series.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster. I laughed, I cried, I raged etc.
After such a long wait from book 4 I wasn't sure if I was up for reading this without going back to the previous books. The basic recap during the beginning helped so much and the way it was done was fantastic.
I have to say that this series is probably my favorite series currently, I really look forward to book 6.
I've been in bed for the last 4 hours reading this and I can only say this: Amazing. I've slowly counting down until release and this series continues to be one of my favorites. I've said this for the previous 4 books as well, but the mix of action, world building, exposition, and underlying romance is top notch. Another great book!
I’ve been waiting awhile for this book and I was not disappointed. Wes’ adventures are legendary and exciting and inspiring and I’m very much looking forward to the next book
Thompson has once again blown me out of the water with his amazing telling of Wes and his journey to right the wrongs of the expanse. This deserves more than 5 stars and I can hardly wait until book 6
I could only manage upto 36% and the best I can say that it is a satire on his previous works. The style has gone from epic to full of pointless drama, empty snark and circular logic .
The series is still going on strong and is still good, my only complaints are about flooding the series too many characters and perspectives that will dilute the enjoyment of reading about the mc's that we started with and some of the over the top emotional baggage that nearly everyone has but especially the mc. All in all still like the series and want to read more and would defiantly recommend it to anyone young adult and up.
I've read all his books and enjoy them all. He's a great writer his books have good pacing the mc is a bit op but that just a feature not a bug to me which is great some of his side characters like the companions could use more content to develop further but I recognize they're not that important right now but if they're to be his retinue they need the time.
So happy to see characters that grow. To many multi volume stories get stuck in the rinse repeat cycle with their emotional growth not only stunted but driving the plot down the same avenue repeatedly. Here we have finally have emotional growth in the characters to an extent that the plot mechanisms and character interactions change and grow as well. Excited to see the results in the the next installment!
I can honestly say that your work is one of my favorite. This book has a lot of fun stuff, have an amazing character development, and you feel the characters are alive. This one has multi viewpoints of different characters and it's gives you the name of the person so that's good. All in all a wonderful life of art.
I really enjoyed the first 3 books of this series. This one was a bit underwhelming. Not nearly enough progress and way to much philosophy. While I love the premise that people can rise from defeat, the author sounded like a broken record. Less is more.
The story still compells, the themes resonate strongly, and the growing cast of characters still appeal. Unfortunately the descriptions are overlong, the pacing is jagged, and the proofreading errors distract. This book, and series, is good and recommended. But it peaked in book three and I am unsure if we will rise to those heights again.
I like the romantic realization from the main female that she wasn’t gross or unworthy of love but I have to admit that In all honestly that she had no competition to really help her realize it faster and I have already recommended it to other people who like reading and I hope they get to love this as I love this
Wes is slowly growing and as the help he gets increases so does his responsibility and the complexity of the story and the past that was hidden. Thompson does a great job of juggling all these balls into an excellent read whilst leaving plenty of surprises for all to read.
It's a good book but it has profanity that distracts from the story. That's why it has four stars instead of five.
Also it has stat sheet errors. I hope the author pays more attention to the stats and gives more information on the main characters paths and good blood lines.
This series is great, it deals with a lot of subjects well. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the women are getting a bit too one dimensional. They compliment the MC, give him advice from time to time, and not much else. Which is a shame as they were much more interesting in previous books.
Love everything about these books and I can never seen to read them fast enough. I look forward to each new book that comes out and just can't put them down. This book was definitely another winner!
While I love some of the characters and the book is still good, I am noticing a "sameness" about the story. It is starting to feel a carbon copy of previous books.
Another fantastic edition to the saga that explores some more of the world and the characters surrounding Wes as the journey continues with it’s trademark humour warring against the sadness (and that darned creep). Loved it and cannot wait for the next adventure
I will give these books to my son to read. They are filled with hope and purpose and good intentions. I feel like a better man while reading these. I feel like I can become a better person. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
In a fantastic series. Extremely well written. Fantastic balance of introducing new character elements, branching story lines and the growth of the MC and his relationships. Only complaint is the long wait for the next book.
I really love this series of books, seeing someone fight back against everything that can be thrown at him. Growing from that, making himself and those around him better.
This was the 5th installment of the series and even though there wasn't that much fighting the character development that took place was just fantastic. If anyone plans on reading this series I suggest you start now
The journey is just beginning in the golden sands. We get a peek at a villain we cant wait to see destroyed and feelings are beginning to show. To me this was another win and I'm super excited for the next one.
This is one of my favourite series ever. More character growth than Sam gamgee... More actual story that the brothers Grimm. constant plot twists fantastic writing and passages bringing tears to the eyes of a grown man pushing 40. 100% genius.
