The stars of Jonathan Fenske's 2016 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor book, A Pig, a Fox, and a Box , and A Pig, a Fox, and Stinky Socks return in another humorous three-part story designed to engage early readers. This story contains charming characters combined with simple text, lively illustrations, and laugh-out-loud humor to help boost kids' confidence and create lifelong readers!
As in the precursors to this tale, A Pig, a Fox, and a Box and A Pig, a Fox, and Stinky Socks , Jonathan Fenske tells a humorous three-part story of two friends, Pig and Fox. In this book, Fox has a doll that looks like him, and he uses it to prank Pig into thinking it's the real Fox. As always, the mischief winds up backfiring, and Fox becomes his own victim.
With comic art and simple language, this title is sure to have kids rolling with laughter.
Exciting, easy-to-read books are the stepping stone a young reader needs to bridge the gap between being a beginner and being fluent.
Jonathan Fenske is the author and illustrator of the leveled readers Woodward and McTwee, Love Is in the Air, Guppy Up!, and A Pig, a Fox, and a Box, which was a 2016 Geisel Honor book. He is also the author of two picture books, Barnacle Is Bored and its follow-up, Plankton Is Pushy. Jonathan lives in South Carolina with his family.
Pig and Fox clearly like one another in these super easy, rhyming stories, written in three parts. Fox has a fox doll and he likes to play tricks on Pig. But somehow, Fox always ends up getting injured. The stories were definitely reminiscent of Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner (except that there’s no death wish).

I love these two friends and their antics. I especially liked the rhyming text in this particular story. It was reminiscent of Dr. Seuss word play for me. I think kids will really like it.
In this new title of Pig and Fox, Fox is trying to trick Pig with his doll Mr Fox. First, he puts Mr. Fox on a wall of blocks. Pig is able to save Mr. Fox but in the process, squishes Fox. In the second part of the book, Fox tries to trick Pig by knocking on his door but only having Mr. Fox visible. This time Fox is squished behind the door. In this book Pig and Fox use a lot of rhyming and silly actions to entertain their reader. This would be a good addition to most advanced beginning reader collections especially those that already have the other Pig and Fox titles. Maybe sometime Fox will learn to not try and trick Pig but most likely not.
Fox decides to try and trick Pig with his fox doll, but Fox's tricks backfire horribly.
I think Fox has learned his lesson. The best part is that Pig always has the best intentions and inadvertently gives Fox a lesson in the process (usually in the form of a bit of slapstick physical humor). A humorous little duo of trickster tales in rhyme. The vocabulary is very simple so this is a great pick for just beginning readers wanting a funny story.
Notes on content: Fox gets pummeled with some blocks and smooshed by a door, but you get the feeling he'll recover soon (though he's learned a lesson in the meantime).
Great little book in the tradition of Dr. Seuss. I think he would have been proud.
I was thoroughly entertained. If you mixed Dr. Seuss with the Roadrunner, this is what you would get. Hilarious, funny, adorable, and even has a good moral to boot. It is short, sweet, easy to read, easy to sound aloud, sticks in your mind and is structured so as to be easy to memorize, all while having a defined plot structure.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

This is the third book about Pig and Fox and again Fox tries to play a prank on Pig. This time Fox has a small Fox doll, but doesn't have much luck in pulling off his prank. Although this picture book isn't as funny as the other two books, little ones who appreciate silly visual humor will enjoy this story.
Thank you Edelweiss for the digital ARC. This is a great Beginning Reader full of rhyming and repeating sentences. I love the other books in this series and they are humorous for young children. Fans of Elephant and Piggie books will enjoy this.
Fox keeps trying to play jokes on Pig. To his dismay, but to our comic relief, the pranks backfire. This is a cute graphic novel set to rhyme for emergent readers, and sure to bring some giggles along the way.
I liked pretty much everything about this even though it rhymed. It was cute and somewhat clever and just right for the age group. I am not 100% sold on its rereadability, but it'll get 5 stars if it passes the test of time. love the illustration style and the premise
Cute! I was a little confused by the slamming door near the end, and this early reader is more violent than most. Rhythm and rhyme are great and most words are not too difficult for emerging readers.
Fox continually tries to trick his friend Pig, to his own demise. (Reminded me of Wile E. Coyote a little bit.) I will have to get these and read them aloud to Kindergarten, they'll love it.
