As the Minstrel of Kaf, Zayne kept the land of the djinn in harmony. Yet lately, raging desires and unquenchable yearnings were throwing his life into discord and wreaking havoc on his home. He needed a woman with whom he could blend his voice and his body. And according to his destiny, this soul mate could only be found in the strange land of Earth.
Madeline knew to expect a guest while house-sitting for her eccentric neighbor. However, she hadn’t expected the man would be so sexy, so potent, so fascinated by the doorbell. Zayne may have been a disaster with modern amenities, but he certainly knew what made her tick. With one soul-stirring kiss, she saw colorful sparks dancing on the air. But Madeline wanted to make sure her handsome djinni wouldn’t pull a disappearing act before she could allow herself to become utterly… SPELLBOUND
I can't say that I'm one of those authors who announced to their mother at the age of six that they were going to be a writer. My first declared career choice was detective. I was reading Nancy Drew at the time, and half in love with Ned Nickerson. A distinct aversion to eminent bodily harm, however, made the career choice an impractical one.
The notion I could be a detective, though, came from a book. Books have always been a treasured companion, a source of knowledge, and a means to travel beyond my world and experience since I first discovered The Poky Little Puppy and The Little Engine That Could in Golden books. It wasn't a far hop from a love of reading to a love of creating my own stories as well.
When that practical streak (the one that steered me away from private detection) reared its head, I began a career in pharmacy. An admittedly varied career, for I've worked in just about every field of pharmacy except sales. My years of writing drug monographs, however, strengthened a heartfelt appreciation for the joys of fiction. When I became a stay-at-home mom, it seemed a perfect time to take the stories I'd been spinning and do something about putting the dream of getting published into practice.
I discovered creating characters and plot an irresistible challenge. Especially when it meant I got to live with djinn, elves, and meddling Greek gods. And I got to be the detective, the magician, the chef, the villain, hero, and heroine.
Five manuscripts and six years later, my first book, Wishes Come True, was published in 1998. Since then, my books have won a Golden Heart, a SARA Rising Star Grand Prize, the Holt Medallion, the Colorado Award of Excellence, the PRISM Award, and the National Reader's Choice Award and been a finalist RWA's RITA. After living for eighteen years in New Orleans, I've returned to my birth state of Michigan with a husband, three children, and two cats. Along with learning the ins and outs of empty nesting now that all three kids are in college, a commitment (again) to really sticking with an exercise program, and a home health care variation to the pharmacy career, I still find that creating characters and plot is an irresistible challenge.
Only, in my books, Ned and Nancy are all grown up and falling in love.
Zayne, a Djinni, the minstrel for his people, but of late his song has been wreaking discord among his people, and his music needs to restore balance to his world. But then he starts feeling the yearning of his mate, one who is living on Earth, and knowing that she can restore balance and be his other half, he goes to her, intending on claiming and keeping her as his own and taking her back to his home. However things don't always go as planned. Madeline, never expected that when she agreed to house sit for her friend, but never thought that there would be a guest she would have to live with, a man who is so sexy you could have a heart attack from all the sensations he sends out. However Madeline is firm in her belief that nothing can get to her, no matter how sensual a man may be, but life throws unexpected surprises and Zayne will not only be her downfall in love but will help heal scars from her past and where she will find a love that will leave her spellbound to his side....Spellbound is the fourth installment in the Djinn series written by Kathleen Nance. Spellbound is a story woven with magic and love and filled with thrilling excitement that will curl your toes, and leave you bewitched. Spellbound is a story of two people that come from different worlds, however they are connected in a way that will save the both of them in the end. I had such a thrilling time reading Spellbound and I was captivated with the story, the characters and the plot that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, and I was so entranced with the story that I could hardly put it down. Its a magical romantic story that will leave you satisfied and full of laughter until the very last page. Definitely a treasure to keep on your book shelves.
This was a really great addition to the series. It follows something of a formula similar to the second book... where the ultra arrogant and alpha male djinni goes off in search of an insecure and hesitant earth woman in order to balance his magic (ma-at). And I find that even still I liked it. Zayne is the minstrel of Kaf and his magic is all out of whack. A divination points him in the direction of Madeline, who will become his wife and balance his ma-at with her beautiful harmonies...only she can't sing. And she suffers from awful stage fright in any case. Add in an evil villain who wants a djinni's power for himself and a heartwrenching bit of angst there at the end and it really is quite delightful. Yes, the djinni is arrogant and smug and assuming about his desirability, power and all that...but he's a very good and warm hearted djinni. He is never cruel nor does he attempt to humiliate the heroine. That is the best kind of alpha male. I also admit that bits of this book are a little campy and corny, but I can get past that. The story is truly engaging.

I stumbled across this book at the local second hand book store on one of my monthly trips. Figuring "Hey, Genies! Haven't read about them before." I threw it onto my pile and took it home. Smartest move yet.
Zayne is not only a djinn but also the Minstrel of Kaf. It's his job to make sure their world is balanced through music. But when the forces go out of his control a divination leads him to his saving grace. A human woman named Madeline. The whole thing turns out to be much more than either one of them expects and takes the reader on quite a ride. I'm not a crier but I'll admit to shedding quite a few during the ending to this one.
After reading it, I found out it was actually the fourth and last in a series but thankfully you can easily read them out of order without many spoilers. Definately a new favourite author and series!
There were some...paper cuts, like after he (who valued HIS privacy and put spells on his door to keep her out) barged in - ok, teleported - to her room and truthspelled her. She had the intention of leaving but it was half-hearted at best. He did apologize but still... Since he suspected she was his destined mate, that's the sort of thing one should just not do.
And of course, there was the inevitable separation (although this one had a doozy of an excuse). Oh, and a power mad villain. Can't have a story without that.
This wasn't the first Djinni book I have read and it probably won't be the last one I read either but even though it was a good story and I enjoyed reading it there wasn't really anything that jumped out at me to make this book a favorite read.
Another cute one, this about a Genie Minstrel who comes to Earth to find his true love, only to find she's embroiled in a magical mystery that endangers them both.
