To earn the love of his curvy human, this cyborg will have to set her free. *** Dissent has one primary mission—to find his female and protect her.
He doesn’t know who she is, where she’s situated, or what she looks like. That doesn’t stop him from searching the universe for her. He’s a cyborg and he’s determined. He WILL track her down.
While the J Model warrior is exploring a settlement on a merchant planet, he hears a defiant scream. Dissent has finally located the one being he’s genetically compatible with. He rushes to his little human’s side, ready and willing to defend her, eager to claim his female…forever.
Greer has only one dream—to be free. She’s been a slave her entire lifespan, has been subjected to soul-crushing abuse and pride-shredding humiliation. When an opportunity to escape presents itself, she takes it. Steps away from independence, she’s apprehended.
As she looks death in the face, waiting for the final strike, a tall, handsome cyborg warrior saves her. He exudes power, makes her tremble with desire, is unlike any of the males she’s ever known…except in one heartbreaking way.
He wants to own her.
As Dissent and Greer battle for dominance, danger looms. An enemy from the past has returned. He’s heavily armed, he’s not alone, and his sole goal is to kill both of them. * * * Dominance And Dissent is a STANDALONE Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, sometimes-violent universe. It features an overprotective cyborg, a defiant slave, and a ravenous baby creature who is determined to eat his way through an entire settlement.
Dominance And Dissent is the third of five core stories in the Cyborg Space Exploration Series. Book 1: Choosing Chuckles Book 2: Doc’s Orders Book 3: Dominance And Dissent Book 4: North Bound Book 5: Testing Truth
USA Today bestselling author Cynthia Sax writes steamy cyborg and alien romances. Her stories have been featured in Star Magazine, on TV, and numerous romance top ten lists.
When she isn't writing, she's traveling the world with her Dear Wonderful Hubby, meeting new people, visiting new places.
Oh, man. These poor cyborgs. They've been battered, abused, used as cannon fodder, and treated as unfeeling machines and they still manage to be decent men. Sure, some of them are a little rough around the edges, but they're big, mushy sweethearts when they find their special someone.
For Dissent, his special lady is a slave who's been horribly mistreated by people she thought were friends. When Dissent finds her, she's prepared to die. She's mistrustful and looking for a chance to escape at every turn. Given what she's been through, that's perfectly understandable. Her desire to escape might break his heart a little, but he's not one to give up.
Despite what's been done to her, Greer has a big heart and she's reasonable enough to listen to Dissent's words of caution (most of the time) and she comes to see his imprisonment of her really IS for her safety and not because he desires a slave. Sure, it takes a while to get to that point, but she's a smart lady. She figures it out.
I'm pretty much loving watching these cyborgs fall and fall hard for the one person they're meant to be with. They really are big marshmallows when it comes to their mate and I am SO here for that.
Man. Cynthia Sax has quickly become one of my all time favorite authors. Her stories are always so creative and original, and Dissent’s story was no exception. Nibbler and Greer both pulled at my heartstrings and Greer’s journey was so extremely difficult to read. There were parts that her pain was so intense, I wanted to skip it... but since it made her who she is, it was an important part of the story. Dissent was the perfect male for her, too... kind, caring, understanding, and protective. I can’t get enough of this series!
Cynthia Sax does it again. She wrote a fantastic book. Dissent and Greer were both survivors. All Dessent wanted was someone to love and protect. All Greer wanted was to be free. Will they each get what they want? Go get the book and find out. I absolutely loved their story.
All Ms. Sax's cyborgs are noble and caring. Dominance is no exception even warming up to dangerous, predatory animals. The story hits the dark meter due to the heroines abuse by the villain, not the hero.
I liked that Dissent got his own story, but it wasn't as well done as I would have liked. It was a little busy throwing in the slave thing and the rogue cyborgs. It was a bit disjointed. Still, a good read.
The spaceship Reckless is still on its mission of exploring and gathering data on life-sustaining planets, the current one Altair Alpha. The crew consists of Truth, North, and Dissent, the latter whose primary purpose is to find his genetically compatible female. Although a cyborg, Dissent needs to love and be loved. He had found an unusual pet, Gnaw, the miljoonasuut he befriended on Khambalia 5, but Dissent had to leave him behind. But on Altair Alpha, he finds a baby miljoonasuut, who has been captured and is kept in a cage. Dissent buys the creature - whom he calls Nibbler - intent to return him to his home planet, that's when Dissent hears anguished cries. A woman is being hurt, but worse! She's Dissent's female, Greer! Greer has been a slave all her life, and since being sold to the vile Zloy, her existence has been sheer hell. Repeatedly raped and tortured, she dreams of running away, of being free but when Dissent rescues her, she wonders if she has exchanged her prison for a more comfortable one.
Poor Greer! What a horrific life she has endured, and DOMINANCE AND DISSENT being a romance, I wondered how it would all play out. Obviously, gaining her trust would not be easy, but Dissent is a kind and patient cyborg, and he knows what being enslaved means. To my astonishment, it went much more smoothly than I expected. To say the least, Greer is not well-disposed at being with another male, when all she craves is freedom, but she has no choice. I was happy that there were no multiple shows of defiance and that she quickly sensed Dissent's good intentions. And other things!
Given the erotic content of the Cyborg Space Exploration series, I was a little bit worried about how that side of the story would work with Greer's past, but Cynthia Sax navigates the treacherous waters with uncommon (or rather expected) finesse. DOMINANCE AND DISSENT is probably the series' most erotically charged installment so far and there wasn't a cringe-inducing moment in sight, which is a testament to Ms. Sax's subtlety in handling delicate matters. Greer is fabulously resourceful and I loved how she uses Nibbler's - idiosyncrasies, shall we say - to her advantage. This you have to read to appreciate and applaud! DOMINANCE AND DISSENT is very intense and a little gory; it's also a very interesting look at freedom and love. But boy, did Cynthia Sax give me a heck of a scare towards the end!
Dissent has been looking for his mate. He knows she is out there. Greer has endured so much. She has never been free and plans to keep trying. She is a fighter. One that the Cyborg’s would love to have on their side. Dissent isn’t going to lose her but he knows he has to let her be free.
I have to say that what happened to Greer was horrible. I wanted to cry and scream all at once. She was a fighter though and that had me rooting for her from the very beginning. Dissent has such a soft heart. Ans he saved a creature that was deadly. I have to say though in the beginning, felt almost like with Rage and Joan. The way he saved her. You want to weep for that. These two suffered by their masters. Him by the H.A. and her by not only her father but the evil man she was sold to. I understand that she wanted to be free. I was so worried for Dissent. Of course it would be a happy ending but there were times you just wanted to cry and weep for all the evil in her world. And Nibbler finally found his home.
A story of strength, survival, and empowering love! I love Truth’s sense of humor, the cyborgs ultra-protective care of their females, even North’s ever so serious attention to his responsibilities. Greer is a survivor. Freedom is her goal. I adore seeing her blossom into the freedom Dissent offers to her through his love for her. Empowerment is a wonderful gift to bestow. Greer, discovering the wonder of Dissent: “The moment stretched, hanging like a teardrop on the tip of an eyelash, elongating into forever.” Greer’s cyborg may indeed be dominant, but it is a gentle, loving dominance, carefully suited to her needs. I love the playful way Dissent shows Greer that she can be in charge of a situation, likening himself to a tool that she can use to accomplish her goals. What a story! I was in tears (of happiness) as the book drew to its conclusion. BTW, Ms. Sax...Truth deserves to be no longer female-less. 😁
This book is EMOTIONALLY GUTTING, DEEPLY HEARTWARMING, WICKED GOOD, DELICIOUSLY SIZZLING & needs to come with a warning to have BOXES of tissues within reach! OMG! I cannot count how many times I teared up while reading Dissent & Greer's story! And I am not normally one to do that. Both Dissent AND Greer tore at my heartstrings in the worst AND best of ways. A stellar romance between a lethally powerful but gentle Cyborg & his female who has a spine of steel & refuses to let betrayal & severe abuse quash her bone deep dream for freedom. Will love? But, once a Cyborg finds his one & only female, it's for life . . . . I LOOOOVED THIS BOOK, Dissent & Greer sooo much!!! Another one of Ms Sax's going into my FAVES/REREAD Kindle file!!!
Cynthia Sax writes her cyborgs dominant, strong, sexy and fiercely protective. Dissent has suffered at the hands of the Humanoid Alliance. He has a special sensitivity to others who experience the same fate. For example, he buys and rescues a dangerous offspring of a violent species, in order to bring the creature back to its home planet. On a mission, he encounters a runaway slave abused at the hands of a sadist who paid her master to hunt and torture her. A beautiful story follows of love, friendship, trust and freedom. Highly recommend.
Dissent and Greer story is one of the most heart wrenching I've ever read next to *Rage* I've cried for Greer and the injustice and the abused she suffered it's so barbaric and I know that it's also happening in reality I meant women being abused that bad and being denied even their basic rights. Anyway I loved this series so much and I can't wait for Truth, North and even Power's stories. Dissent is so adorable and Nibbler omg I love that little biter lol his so cute.
A beautiful love story that capture your heart and leaves you wanting more with awesome characters. It has everything you want in a romance, action, adventure, drama, passion, and steamy sexy scenes that leaves you saying ahh? Definitely a must buy and waiting anxiously for the next book in the series?
Absolutely adored Dissent and Greer's story. So much heartache and strength between the both of them it hurt sometimes to read but so worth it! Proves love knows no bounds. Please please please tell me Truth is next.
Series: Cyborg Space Exploration #3 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
TW: slavery, rape
While Dissent is exploring a settlement on a merchant planet, he hears a scream and realizes it is his mate. He rushes to her side and saves her but things are not as great as he expected them to be. Greer is a slave who is determined to be free. When she is rescued by a cyborg she things its another kind of slavery at first, but the more she learns about Dissent the more she realizes she is free.
This book was an emotionally heavy one. Greer is a slave that has been used and abused by her master and all his friends. She expects to die trying to escape but finds herself saved by Dissent instead. She struggles to overcome her past, especially since she sees mating as another form of slavery. Greer was a very strong woman who overcame so much pain to find love in the end. I really liked her.
Dissent has been searching for his female since the cyborgs freed themselves. He has dreamed of her and what their relationship will be like. Meeting Greer changes all his expectations. He has to change his plans for how the relationship will go to work with the trauma Greer has faced. I really liked that he adapted so quickly to her needs and never lets her feel like she is less because of the trauma.
Overall, this was a good book but it does have some very heavy topics and scenes. I still really enjoyed the story and the couple.

Did I know this before? I feel like I did, but I can’t remember where I would have read this. Cry out in anger and pain, both physical and emotional, yes, but actual crying?
Either way, I’m happy with this one as well. It felt a little short, but I’m not surprised since most of the conflict was external to them and easily dealt with.
This is the closest the author has gotten to a cyborg not meeting their mate. We have come equally close to losing a mate once found in another story, but this I think was testing how thin they could make the plot armor.
Now that I think about it, he was close to death himself like 4 books back. He was the cyborg that the girl hiding in the ship had saved. So he ended up living to save his mate from dying. And yes, this was mentioned in their talks but not in that way.
The little creature of death was a nice touch. Good read. Thumbs up.
Dissent stayed alive for his Female and has been waiting for a very long time to find her. He was on an away mission when he heard the scream of her voice and he flew to her side recking vengeance. No one was to harm his Female and get away with it. Dissent would destroy anyone who damaged his Female!!! Greer was born a slave and thought her father would free her once he died but he betrayed her instead and sold her to a disgusting horrible humanoid. She tried to escape but she was caught in the market place and screamed her denial only to have Dissent rescue her. Though at the time she didn’t realize it and fought with him daily to be released. Or did she fight hard enough?
I love Cyborgs. Especially Cynthia has me enthralled. Each story is unique, but familiar like looking in on family. She takes you on a sci-fi ride into the future and space to new people, or humans, or nonhumans, but always interesting and new and diverse. Each of our and I mean our cyborgs is completely dedicated to his special female and her need and talents!
Dominance and Dissent Cyborg Space Exploration book 3by Cynthia Sax
Another absolutely heartwarming story with plenty to get you turning the pages to see what happens next for them and also cheering them on to finally get their HEA together ❤!💖
Dissent is one of my favourite Cyborg characters as he was out through so much horrifying degrading torture and yet stayed hopeful. Also how can you not like a guy who rescues enslaved beings.
However, while I enjoyed this book from about the middle to the end, I didn’t care for the beginning part or more exactly, the female leads beginning part. I don’t know what bothered me really, I have no problems with dark romance content but something with this characters origin story just ruined the romance for me.
I want to say that the basis for this book is a horrible trauma that both experienced but the female’s was literally happening the day they met and the males had happened in an undisclosed long amount of time ago. Time enough for him to be better able to understand and recover from it and be open to love. I HIGHLY doubt that a new trauma as the female leads was would allow for so quick an emotional turn around as this book describes.
Having said that, both characters had a lovely to read emotional recovery that I truly enjoyed. There was a sweet HEA at the end. And as a Cynthia Sax usual, the side characters, Truth, Gnaw and Nibbler were just awesome to read. True delights!
Rough entry, but improves after the first third of the book. Greer's story is not a happy one—ick on so many levels which we jump right into and thus the TW/CW shelf—but it improves as she befriends Nibbler and begins to trust Dissent. They made the sweetest little trauma family. There's also some interesting thoughts on true freedom vs. love that are scratched at in here. Nothing too in-depth, obviously, but enough to plant a seed and encourage deeper exploration.
My heart just about broke reading about Greer's story born into slavery, treated as a pet, then sold and treated worse than and living thing should ever be treated. I was so angry and thought it anyone deserves a cyborg that with love her unconditionally, forever and treat her like a goddess it's Greer. Dissent only wants to find his one and only and love and take care of her until the end of time. Thank God he realizes that Greer will need all his love but most of all she will need patients, compassion and understanding. Thank goodness they find each other and they learn to trust and love grows and passion follows. I love cyborgs💖
I personally love all things Cynthia Sax and this book was no different. However, this book is full of triggers. The female main characters was physically and sexually abused by many men and immediately starts a sexual relationship with the main male character. And when I say immediately, I mean within minutes of him finding her bleeding and almost dead on the street. I love her books but this made even me squirm. If you can get past that the rest of the book is enjoyable.
