I let this book sit for a while before looking at it because I thought it was going to be some punitive kale-based diet, and the last thing I wanted to do in the middle of a pandemic was punish myself. However, the sun is out today, I'm feeling good, and I figured it was time to look at it.

It is actually a helpful cookbook of tasty-looking sugar-free recipes designed to help you cut down on processed sugars. I skipped the intro (does anyone read the beginning of cookbooks or are all authors just shouting into the void there?) and went straight to the recipes and I am not disappointed!

I already have most of these ingredients, and it looks awesome. It has earned a spot on my bookshelf.

Highly recommended for folks who like food but wish they ate less sugary garbage.

“By removing sugar and refined foods from your diet, you can experience an increase in your energy level and alertness and a reduction in bloating and inflammation,” Pam Rocca writes in the introduction of her book, Sugar Detox in 10 Days: 100+ Recipes to Help Eliminate Sugar Cravings.

~ What ~
This two-hundred-and-eighteen-page paperback targets those interested in getting rid of the cravings for sugar in their diet. After an introduction, the book is divided into eleven sections that contain one hundred recipes, followed by measurement conversions, an index, acknowledgments, and the author’s biography.

The first chapter offers an overview of sugar cravings and their effects, refined foods, different names for sugar, addiction, stress, and physical ways to avoid it. The second part focuses on detoxing the kitchen, food lists, nutrition tips, and good habits, while the third one has four ten-day plans covering lean meat, pescatarian, vegan, and vegetarian meals, complete with pantry lists. The remaining chapters have recipes for breakfast, condiments, dips, sauces, salads, soups, vegan/vegetarian mains, seafood, poultry, and lean meat meals, and desserts.

Each one-to-two-page recipe begins with its title, followed by yield, prep/cook times, and a descriptive paragraph. The ingredients are listed in order used on the left side of the page with numbered directions on the right side. Often added are additions, cooking/prep tips, substitutions, time-saving, and storage suggestions. Caloric information is listed for each recipe.

~ Why ~
I will admit it: I have an addiction to sugar and have ardently tried to eliminate the cravings. This book helps in switching from processed/refined/sugary foods to healthy, delicious choices. I like how simplified the recipes are and easy to follow. Having the four different food plans is very helpful.

Some of the notable recipes are Sweet Potato Toast, Tofu Scramble Stir-Fry, Immune-Boosting Smoothie, Pumpkin-Spiced Muffins, Lemon Tahini Dressing, Cashew Fruit Dip, Peanut Curry Sauce, Beet and Grapefruit Salad, Chicken Detox Stew, Eggplant Parm, Lasagna-Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms, Slow Cooker Barbeque Lentil Chili, Creamy Tuscan Salmon, Cajun White Fish, Epic Turkey Meatballs, Grilled Chicken Bruschetta Bowls, No-Bake Lemon Cake Balls, and Chocolate Almond Butter Cups.

~ Why Not ~
Those who crave sugar and do not want to bother stopping its unhealthy outcomes will have no need for this book. Others who do not like to bake or cook may not have the time or interest to try its recipes.

~ Wish ~
Being a visual person, I wish there were colored photographs of all completed dishes.

~ Want ~
If you are truly serious about eliminating sugar and refined foods from your diet, this helpful book not only shows you how to do it in ten days via four types of diet plans, but it also provides over one-hundred recipes to do it.

Thanks to Callisto Publisher’s Club and the author for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

This book is for those interested in getting rid of the cravings for sugar in their diet. There is also nutritional information for each recipe.

What I liked: This book is a good place to start if you are looking to switch from sugary foods to healthy choices. I like how the recipes are clear and easy to follow. Having the four different food plans is also very helpful. And the few pictures included were a nice addition (though more would be nice). I especially liked the inclusion of nutritional information.

What I didn’t like: Very little. A nicely done book, easy to read and follow.

Recommendation: If you are serious about wanting to eliminate sugar and refined foods from your diet, this helpful book not only shows you how to do it in ten days via four types of diet plans, but it also provides over one-hundred recipes to do it. It’s clear, easy to read and follow. Recommended.

It’s hard to give up sugar-I like my chocolate and sweet tea. I try to limit as much as I can but it’s easy to eat something not thinking that it may be loaded with sugar.

The first part is where the rubber hits the road-sugar and the bad effects it has on our health. There is information on hidden sugar in foods and she gives you a few examples like white flour, pasta sauces, and several other foods. She provides you with some of the different names of sugar that you can look out for. This is still a cookbook and isn’t an exhausted information on the subject but a fair amount to inform you.

She has a section, “Could you be a Sugar Addict?” I can relate to a few of them.
The author has four menu plans: Lean Meats, Pescatarian, Vegan, and Vegetarian. Each one of the menu plans gives you the page number for the recipe. She actually recommends you eliminate dairy from you food during your detox. I know milk and many dairy products are loaded with sugar.
A lot of common sense advice like eating in moderation, developing good habits, and good food recommendations.

All the recipes are pretty simple to make. A few of the ingredients you may have to find at your local health store. There is a good variety for most people’s palette.

I received a copy of this product in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Learn how to control your consumption of refined sugar and processed foods in a healthy, sustainable manner with "Sugar Detox in 10 Days: 100+ Recipes to Help Eliminate Sugar Cravings". Sugar Detox in 10 Days is quite a cookbook! It's very informative, explaining the effects of sugar on the body and why it is beneficial to eliminate it from our diet, the different names on ingredients lists that equates to sugar, and how to transition away from sugar. The author is knowledgeable and determined to help you succeed in changing your diet.

What I found most impressive is that it gives 10 day meal plans for four different types of eaters (lean meat, pescatarian, vegan & vegetarian) and over 100 recipes in categories that cover it all (breakfast; smoothies & snacks; condiments, & sauces; salads & soups; vegan & vegetarian mains; seafood mains; poultry & lean meat mains and desserts).

If you're ready to make a change in your diet, this book has what you need to succeed in that effort.

My thanks to Callisto Media and RockRidgePress for giving me a copy of this book in hopes of a review (reviews are NOT required). The opinions expressed here are my own and are unbiased.

A good book to help you change the way you eat in 10 days. Easy to read and well organized.

Likes: Menu plans addressing lean meat-eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians and vegans so everyone is covered. Recipes are healthy and flavorful.

Dislikes: Although the title does say 100+ recipes, I guess I was looking for a little more background and discussion about the sugar detox process. There isn't that much, this is mainly a cookbook.

For any kind of baked good or dessert, it seems that sugar is replaced by protein powder. I am not a fan of protein powders, they have an odd taste and sometimes too many supplements for my liking. There is a paragraph that states you have to be careful about how much sugar is in the powder but then goes on to say that there are only a 'few' recipes that use it. I counted at least 18. That's more than a few. The author does recommend two different brands which I have not tried so maybe these recipes will turn out ok.

Thank you to Callisto Publishers for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

Sugar Detox in 10 Days offers what to look for on labels when grocery shopping. I found it interesting how long the list was of sugars to look out for when reading labels. Throughout the introductory pages, the truth about sugar and sugar addictions are discussed.

Approaches to living sugar free are offered and benefits are discussed. The recipes are easy to follow and the shopping lists are not too extensive. I love that the book includes four meal plans! Yes-four!! The reader chooses either the lean meat plan, pescatarian plan, vegan plan, or vegetarian plan.

I wish there were more pictures of the the recipes made, as I am often pulled into recipes initially by the picture of the scrumptious yums, but I am impressed with the ease of the recipes. Highly recommend Sugar Detox in 10 Days by Pam Rocca!

Reducing the amount of sugar I consume is a constant struggle for me. The addiction is strong, and it's easy to miss the sugar that's hidden in most pre-packaged food. I appreciate that these recipes all seem pretty manageable for an amateur cook like myself. She includes meal plan options for vegetarians, vegans, and those of us who do eat meat, so it's nice to have all the options. I also appreciate that she addresses to prepare yourself for what you'll feel like when you drastically reduce your sugar intake. I wish there was more advice for behavioral changes, and more photos of the recipes. Otherwise this is a great resource for anyone looking to improve their diet. This book can really help you kick that sugar habit and believe me I know it can be hard. I am right there in the struggle some days doing better than others. Food is totally my kryptonite and I can crumble and fall in one weak moment. This cookbook has great ideas to help prevent that.

Give this cookbook a chance 10 days can become 20 and then a new lifestyle. It really is doable just take one day at a time and the dedication and tools to help you succeed. This book has great information on the hidden sugars and delicious recipes to keep or help you get on track. There are some tasty recipes in here and if your interested in getting rid of sugar or even just reducing it give this book a shot!

I received this book from Callisto Publishing and Rockridge Press for an honest review.

Lots of options

The intro about sugar - especially the hidden sugar in processed and "healthy" foods - was informative but not overly long. The author provided alternatives to dialing down the spice heat level and for leaving out curry if one is not a fan. This makes for lots of options often missing in other books. I also love that theft of only takes 10 days. Who can't stay on a new way of eating for just 10 days?

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book. My honest review follows.

I'm absolutely addicted to sugar and have read many books on giving up the vice!

In regard to this book, the good: can be used by people with a variety of eating habits. There's four plans outlined including ones for lean meat-eaters, pescatarians, vegetarians and vegans. The book is also designed dairy-free. The variety of recipes is impressive. I'm planning to make Indian spiced turkey stew this week. New recipes for ground turkey are a plus for me.

The not-as-good: because it is dairy free, there are special ingredients not everyone would have on hand. (Looking at you dairy-free feta) but could be subbed with traditional ingredients with moderate impact on the plan. My other critique is that this is primarily a cookbook/recipe book. I was really hoping for more on the behavior modification angle. Most people know that eating roasted veggies with hummus is healthier than a vending machine candy bar. It's the behavior modification and habit changing that people struggle with.

Overall, this is a great collection of recipes for anyone looking to make healthy changes to their diet, whether addicted to sugar or not. And maybe seeing the vibrant cover staring at them from their side table or kitchen counter will help encourage those choices.

This is one of those books you just can't read through. It's like a recipe book, try the 'recipe' or principle, and then go to the next one.
