Co je peklo? Sousedi!

Poor Phoebe Miller. She’s in a bit of a life slump right now. Oh, she’s still filthy rich, but she is on the other side of 30 and the pounds are creeping on while the once gorgeous face is fading. Her late father has been exposed as a nasty creep and she would rather hide out in her mansion with her expensive wine and plenty of Haagen-Daz than venture out to the shops where she will be recognized.
She has a sappy husband, no friends or family. Phoebe is lonely. Her interest is piqued when she notices new neighbors moving in across the street. Hmmm, an arguing couple with a gorgeous college-age son. Also, what the heck? There is often a little blue car manned and stationed within spying distance of her house. These two events keep Phoebe busy behind her own blinds peeping out. It took a while to get to a dead body in this story, but when it happened—I was shocked! Believe me, you don’t want to take your attention off a page for a minute!
This may sound like the premise of The Woman in the Window, but it is different than that book and, in my little ole opinion,-- remarkably better!
That is all you really need to know to get started. I had absolutely no idea what the book was about (so very few reviews yet!) and I think it is better that way. Addictive and just plain crazy, this novel speaks my language. Mark down this author Allison Dickson, this is her fabulous debut and I cannot wait to see what’s next from her!
The Other Mrs. Miller is set for publication on July 16, 2019. Thanks to Edelweiss for my advanced galley. All opinions are mine.
4.5* This book is the total package! It’s fun, surprising, shocking...did I mention fun?
Mrs. Miller, known to her friends (if she had any) as Phoebe has turned into somewhat of a recluse after her father died amidst a massive scandal. She rarely leaves the house now, other than to pick up groceries and more importantly...wine! Her marriage is on the rocks...more precisely, hanging by a thread.
Recently, a new couple moved in across the street with their college bound son. Phoebe takes notice and actually begins coming out of her shell, embracing the possibility of a new friend. Dear Phoebe may end up with a lot more than she bargained for!
Well now…then there’s the other Mrs. Miller! That’s right! But you’ll just have to read this book to find out about her! You're welcome!
There are moments that will make you laugh! You will be shaking your head at the antics! You will be shocked! What fun!
As with most thrillers...suspend your belief, keep an open mind, sit back and enjoy the ride!
A super fun buddy read with Susanne!
Thank you to Edelweiss, Penguin Publishing Group and Allison Dickson for an ARC to read and review.
4 Stars. Did that just Happen? Really?! Say WHAT?! Yeah, it did. Ha!
“The Other Mrs. Miller” is a very weird book. Like weird. Wild, and yes, it was in fact far-fetched and in this instance, it actually worked (you heard me say that.. yes, you can cover your mouth in shock because normally I am not a fan of far-fetched plots) but in this case it was outlandish and crazy and yes, it worked!). So settle, in grab a copy of this novel and prepare to be ENTERTAINED.
Phoebe Miller never leaves the house. She has her reasons and they are good ones. Phoebe is rich and does everything to excess, including eating ice cream and drinking wine, which irks her husband Wyatt to no end. Shocking, right? What irks Phoebe most is a little blue car that is parked outside her house most days – such that Phoebe keeps a log of its comings and goings.
Thank goodness a new family moves into the neighborhood to distract her. Enter the Napiers! Mrs. Napier a.k.a. Vicki, quickly becomes Phoebe’s new best friend! Then there’s Jake, Vicki’s gorgeous teenage son. Can you feel the excitement? Ooh la la!
What happens next is a freaking DOOZY! I certainly did not expect THAT to happen.
So when I said that this book was far-fetched, I meant it. That said, it totally freaking worked. Like holy crap, for the first time ever, I did not roll my eyes. BAAH! I, therefore, look forward to seeing what all of your reactions are to this wild and crazy novel.
Thank you Kaceey for sharing in this awesome read with me!
Thank you to Edelweiss, Penguin Publishing Group and Allison Dickson for an arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Twisty Plot ✅ Secrets and Lies ✅ Marital Discord ✅ Dysfunctional Families ✅ Over the top ✅ Suspension of Disbelief REQUIRED ✅ Cray-Cray ✅
Yes, the Other Mrs. Miller was ALL of those things, making it quite an engaging page-turner! This book was like settling in with a good friend for some juicy gossip - pure entertainment!
Phoebe enjoys the quiet ease of a "shut-in" lifestyle.
She is an heiress after all, she can do what she wants.
That is until this annoying little beat up blue car starts parking down her block in the same spot. This is Lake Forest Drive and those types of cars don't belong on her street.
Why can't she get a good look at the driver?
Then some new neighbors move in, more reasons for her to peer out the window. A typical day monitoring the street with a full wine glass in hand. She isn't a complete hermit though, when the doorbell rings, she prepares herself to play "well-adjusted" human.
Let the masquerade begin....
So many twists and turns that I could barely keep up and had a dizzying affect! A clever domestic thriller with a high dose of crazy- its out there.
Can the real villain please stand up?
Thanks to EW for my review copy. OUT July 16, 2019
Your rich Daddy has died in scandal, and you are hiding out in your house, "wearing yoga pants with no intention of doing poses."
Your favorite synonym for serenity is French: Cabernet Sauvignon. "
But someone has been sitting outside your house and you are sure that they are watching you.
You start a logbook noting the dates and times of when the car, and that person are there.
You are ever so snarky, but a lot of what you think and say resonates with me, as a reader.
What you DO however, does not.
Part Two:
Oh, Mrs. Miller!
You are ten pounds lighter and your skin looks like porcelain!
You now hold hands with your husband when you go out to play! You seem so much happier- is it your husband, making you feel this way? Have you really turned over a new leaf? 🍁
Or is it is because of your new neighbors (and friends!), The Napiers, who have moved in across the street...
If you like your thrillers fun and CAMPY, and full of twists-this one is for you!
Even I didn't mind having to suspend disbelief just a bit...
It was delicious fun!! And, is still one of my FAVORITES for 2019!,
I would like to thank Edelweiss for the digital ARC, I received in exchange for my candid review!
I know I'm the odd man out here so i was actually second guessing myself.. But if I'm honest, i just thought this book was silly. I enjoyed the first part.. I thought Phoebe was interesting & would've liked to spend more time with her. But once we got to part 2?! Oh boy. It actually was so ridiculous (just my opinion of course) that it genuinely came across as comical. I was surprised its even in the thriller genre, but then i saw the other reviews & turns out I'm very much in the minority. So I guess it just wasn't a good fit for me. It's not that need for "suspension of belief.." I read & enjoy lots of books that aren't realistic or in any way probable.. This was more then that. I think the author purposely wasn't taking herself (or Mrs Miller) too seriously... I guess if you go in knowing what to expect & are just looking for a quick, fun read- maybe after getting through something very dark or serious... I don't know! Lol It wasn't for me.
Phoebe's recently lost her wealthy father Daniel and is literally shutting herself in her suburban house in a quiet cul-de-sac. She has no desire to interact with other people and most definitely she'd like to avoid the press. Since his death, Daniel has been accused of rape and various kinds of harrassment by numerous women who were too afraid to talk about it earlier for the fear of retribution. Phoebe did not exactly have a happy childhood herself. Most of the time her father didn't acknowledge her existence, and when he did, it was only to put her down or label as worthless. Phoebe had her moment of rebellion when, having got accidentally pregnant, she got married to Wyatt. Unfortunately, the baby died, numerous fertility treatments proved to be futile, and Phoebe gradually realised that becoming a parent was her husband's dream, not hers, as she is not a maternal type. Phoebe's marriage is on the rocks, she doesn't want to leave her house for any other reason apart from grocery shopping. Slowly, but steadily, Phoebe is letting herself go... I was fascinated by this description of a middle life crisis, because, let's face it, it doesn't happen only to rich and socially disgraced heiresses, it can happen and happens to a lot of people who are missing meaningful relationships and interactions in their life. A new family moves in the house next door, and Phoebe gets involved with the Napiers family life in all sorts of predictable and unpredictable ways.
In the second part of the book we see a different Phoebe Miller, somebody who is bold and resourceful, and is willing to act. I kept thinking about The Likeness by Tara French, where the murder victim was also somebody who kept reinventing herself and trying out diffrent lives, friendships and relationships. Of course, if you lead this kind of exhilarating life, what you cannot afford is trust in other people, which is earned and built over time. Is the other Mrs Miller ready to pay this price?
The Other Mrs Miller was a fast and engaging read. I just had to know what was going to happen next. At several points I wrote a note for myself with what I thought the future had in store for Phoebe Miller, and, of course, I was wrong! This dark and humorous book may not be particularly realistic, but it is an interesting example of a domestic thriller.
Thank you to Edelweiss and G.P.Putnam's sons for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
Domestic suspense, with a big heaping side of F.U.N., for the win!
I don't typically enjoy books which require such a blatant suspension of belief. Having said that, this book was so campy and entertaining, particularly with a completely unexpected murder or two, that I was in it, friends. One hundred percent!
Go into this story with every intention of not taking it too seriously, and I think you'll also wind up giddy about indulging in this witty, twisty, and fun-loving novel.
And it's the living that rattle the chains and keep you up at night.
Phoebe Miller is a prisoner of her own making. Much like a shut-in these days, our gal Phoebe sits beside the pool drinking bottles of wine in a daze from early morning until night. She's gained weight and lost confidence. Her husband, Wyatt, a psychologist, has kept her in the spin-cycle of trying to become pregnant with no results. And no amount of invitro treatments ever seems to take.
With plenty of time on her hands, Phoebe has taken to staring out the front window. Was she becoming paranoid or was that small blue car parked across the street on a daily basis? Each day, every day, that driver sits behind the wheel. Hour after hour. Phoebe doesn't have the energy to confront the driver. Knowing or not knowing doesn't even seem to matter.
But then Phoebe's usual mundane landscape will take a radical turn when a new family moves in across the street. In a rare sober moment, Phoebe forces herself into the shower and into a change of clothes. Next stop: Neighbor upon neighbor. This little community outreach is gonna be the strike of the match for all parties concerned. No going back with all escape bridges burned.
The Other Mrs. Miller is a darkly written adventure into the deep recesses of the mind. Allison Dickson has created a tightly ruffled storyline that leaps well beyond the believability factor. You've got to check that at the door before entering into this one. Agatha Christie would be gasping.....but Alfred Hitchcock would certainly not.
The Other Mrs. Miller holds at center stage very bad people doing very bad things. Ol' Phoebe should never have ventured out that day, but perhaps evil would have slipped under the crack in the door anyway. Prepare yourself to find out just who this "other" Mrs. Miller truly is......
The Other Mrs. Miller, a mystery/thriller, was a solid 3.5 stars. Phoebe Miller is an unhappy wealthy woman living in Chicago. Phoebe spends the vast majority of her time at home- drowning her sorrows in a desperate attempt to forget about her failing marriage and the horrible family legacy her father left behind after his recent death. With women coming forward accusing her father of serious misconduct, Phoebe feels that she is now a target, especially with a suspicious blue car now parking in her neighborhood at all hours of the day. When new neighbors move across the street, Phoebe is able to distract herself with her new friend Vicki and her handsome son Jake. No spoilers here but things aren’t always as they seem. I enjoyed the The Other Mrs. Miller, even with the “somewhat” implausible plot, it is still a very entertaining read. I’d recommend this to fans of mystery/thriller books. Note: I won this book on a Goodreads giveaway and this is an honest review.
The Other Mrs Miller is one heck of a crazy ride - and I mean cray-cray!! And I loved it! I was not expecting the turns the story took at all from the blurb. Allison Dickinson has a sure fire hit on her hands here - and I have heard that it has already been picked up for a TV series. I will be tuning in for that.
It is a tough book to write much about without giving anything away - as I said, I wasn't expecting the way the story went at all. Phoebe Miller is a rich housewife who is in an unhappy marriage and rarely leaves the house. She notices a new car in the street on a regular basis and worries it maybe somebody after her due her late fathers indiscretions. When a new family move into the house across the road she decides to fight her fears and becomes friendly with the new neighbours. And that is all I can say! But trust me, you will not be disappointed with this one - if you are like me you will squeal at the end of part one!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Little, Brown Brook Group UK for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased.
The Other Mrs Miller is a great mystery to help you out on a boring day. But if you are looking for the dark and twisty masterpiece to blow your mind, I’m afraid this is not it…
Phoebe Miller is married to a man she doesn’t love. He is a psychotherapist and Phoebe feels he constantly analyses her. She doesn’t work because her father was rich. And when he died, women started to tell their stories of all the terrible things he did. All Phoebe wants to do is hide in her house. But she feels constantly watched and notices a car parked on her street almost every day. And then there are these new neighbours that are clearly hiding something. Should she be worried?
There were a lot of relationships in this book that I had an issue with:
- the husband that treats his wife as a study subject - the wife that treats her husband as garbage - the new relationship between a man with the IQ of a three-year-old and a woman that has no clue of what she wants - the unknown sister who would rather threaten you or kill you, than come and tell you she is your sister - the overprotective mother who doesn’t let her child speak
A very different, and at times, confusing plot. Interesting beginning and introduction, followed by a boring section in the book. A bit of tiny action, and then a slow paced stage again. And finally, an epilogue with a lot of pressure, many characters and a lot of mystery. Very satisfying, until the very last chapter, where the author turns everything around with another small twist, and here I am, sitting on my sofa, with the Kindle in my hand, thinking: THIS IS NOT RIGHT.
A final twist, without any buildup, or any hints, without making any sense or adding to the story in any way. I wish the author or their editor just deleted that last bit. Disappointing.
I did enjoy the whole book, but the very end left me with a bad after-taste and I can’t give it more than these three stars. Amazing mystery, but ahh, if I could just forget about that last chapter.
If you love mysteries, I am still recommending this. You might enjoy it more than I did. Thank you to the team at Netgalley, for sending me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed part one of this book. Phoebe is a rich bored housewife who likes to stay at home and drink while her husband is out at work. Her marriage is on the rocks. When new neighbours move in next door she gets close to them by befriending the wife and her son. Part two of the book I found to be farcical and unbelievable but entertaining. Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
I've spent most of the day pondering this psychological thriller, trying to decide exactly how to rate it. It was tough, because while some of it was very unique and well done, other aspects were much less impressive. I think 3 Stars is a fair assessment of my experience.
SUMMARY Phoebe Miller's life is on a downward spiral. She and her husband, Wyatt, have let so much space come between them that they have become little more than apathetic roommates. Not only did her (very wealthy, captain of industry) father recently die, but in the wake of his death, multiple women have come forward accusing him of sexually assaulting or exploiting them. Due to her father's scandal and the fact that she is his only child, the press has been hounding her, making it difficult for her to leave the house. Staying home all the time has turned her into a depressed recluse, and it's fair to say, that she no longer takes any pride in her appearance. In fact, sometimes she will spend days in the same yoga pants without showering (not exactly typical behavior from this once impeccably groomed, beautiful heiress). Additionally, she has noticed a car spending a suspicious amount of time parked outside her house, clearly someone in the car is watching her. Who is it and what do they want?
Phoebe perks up when a new family moves in across the street. Although Phoebe generally does not befriend the neighbors, something about super friendly Vicky and her handsome eighteen year old son, Jake, intrigues her. As Phoebe begins to let her guard down and form a friendship with Vicky, she increasingly believes things might not be all sunshine and roses at her new neighbors house. She suspects Vicky's often red faced, volatile husband, Ron, may be the problem. In the meantime, her stalker in the car outside her house is still making appearances and behind her own closed doors, things go from chilly to hostile with Wyatt. You won't even believe what happens next and what the characters try to pull off.
Told predominantly told in third person with short interludes from the POV of various characters, this story is easy to follow and a quick read.
WHAT I LOVED This is a fairly unique concept for a thriller, definitely not your run of the mill story. It has some very clever plot points.
I love the Chicago setting, it's a fabulous city and makes a great backdrop for a book.
It held my attention from page one to the very last sentence. I also liked the writing style, it's not overly fluffy, yet I still felt had a great sense of place and could envision the characters.
This book is so timely! It's very #me too and ripped from the headlines Jeffrey Epstein-esque. Is this book Life Imitating Art or Art Imitating Life?
WHAT I DIDN'T LOVE The main premise was iffy. I chose to suspend belief and just go with it but I had to force myself not to over think it. It did help that even the main characters admitted their Hail Mary plan was flawed and may not work, but it was hard to imagine they actually even tried. .
I can literally say I liked NONE of the characters. The more I got to know them, the less I liked them.
All of the 'romances' in the book seemed a bit off, weird, disloyal and unnatural to me.
The farm part was way too gross.
I didn't like the ending. I understand why it happened, but it just seem to fit with the read of the story. I can't say more or I will ruin it.
OVERALL I think this book is readable, it held my interest but I didn't overwhelmingly love it. If you think too hard, it's easy to point out some flaws, so my advice is to treat it like a fun, easy book and not to over think.
I got through the first half; the “Mrs. Miller” section and was ready to DNF. I then read some GR reviews from people who said “ooooh, the second part is SO good! “ so I pushed onward.
Um, no. Bad decision. Not good at all. I didn’t see it or feel it in either half of the book. I didn’t like Mrs. Miller or the “Other” Mrs. Miller.
The first part was drivel, whining, and much ado about nothing. The characters were weak. The plot was going...where??
The second part was supposed to be a revelation; a cunning cover up. Instead, It was poorly executed and thoroughly unexciting. The characters, instead of developing, continued to be weak. The plot of the second part was truly a farce.
This is one book that I don’t get what all the hubbub is all about! Not recommended.
Vaya! :-)
Phoebe Miller spends her days at home alone. She's noticed the same car parked on her street several times a week. Phoebe wonders if it is someone taking a break from their day or if someone is spying on her. When new neighbors move in across the street, Phoebe forgets about the woman in the car.
Told in two parts, Part 1 - Mrs. Miller and Part 2 - The Other Mrs. Miller. The first part is about Phoebe and her life. She is wealthy, lonely, and unhappily married. When new neighbors move in, she starts up a friendship with the mother and an affair with the son. The second part takes a turn, and is about the other Mrs. Miller.
I thoroughly enjoyed Part 1, but Part 2 was a let down. While the first part is realistic and somewhat dark, the second part is unbelievable and almost comical. It's like reading two completely different stories.
Overall, The Other Mrs. Miller is an entertaining read. Good for fans of domestic thrillers that don't mind suspending disbelief. Darkly humorous, twisty, and fun.
I received a free digital copy of this book from the publisher via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.
This book shows the life of a super rich, yet lonely and isolated Phoebe Miller. New neighbors move across the street and her life will never be the same.
Heart pounding until the end. The book kept me guessing until the very last page. I don’t even know how many theories I thought I had discovered until the end.
The book is separated into two parts which took me a bit to get into and enjoy.
It is a quick page turning read that I couldn’t get enough of.
"The Other Mrs. Miller" by Allison M. Dickson is a darkly written Domestic Thriller! Oh My!!
When you're unhappy with your marriage and shut yourself in your house eating bon-bons and sipping wine by the pool all day, every day, anything and everything that happens on the other side of the blinds seems interesting, right? For Phoebe Miller this includes the driver in the rusting blue car parked in the cul-de-sac spying on her hour after hour, day after day. Why on earth is that car there? Who is in it anyway?
But, Phoebe loses track of the blue car when the Napier Family moves in across the street. Could it be because of her growing gossipy friendship with mom, Vicki? Or, maybe it's because she's spending so much 'alone' time with the handsome son, Jake in a different kind of friendship, one that's causing her to be so distracted? Where did that blue car disappear to anyway? When was the last time it was in the cul-de-sac?
The characters are all a bit crazy and I'm not sure which one is the most cray-cray! It's anyone's guess! Told in two parts, Part 1 sets everything up so perfectly! It has that page-turning feel that causes me to keep reading! Part 2 does not hold that expected balance. Scenario's take place that aren't logical or realistic. And, it was a bit too long for the story-line, and especially for me.
I liked it but I wanted to love it because it has such a strong beginning. If you love Domestic Thrillers with less than realistic and believable pieces and parts, this could still be the book for you.
Two women are watching each other and only one knows why. Phoebe isn't sure when the car on her street appeared and originally thought it was related to the scandal around her late father, but she's now certain it's there for her and has no idea why. When a new family moves in across the street Phoebe becomes distracted and she's no longer focused on the car, when really she should be. Because the woman in the car is waiting for the right opportunity to upend Phoebe's life...
I had mixed feelings by the end of this book. Overall I definitely enjoyed it and found it really easy to read. However on the other hand it was almost ridiculously far-fetched. When I read a thriller I like it if at least a good proportion of the storyline is believable or at least imaginable, and I really don't think the events in this novel can be classified as that. Phoebe was both interesting and for me, unlikable. The narrative was quite fast-paced and full of secrets and twists. You basically couldn't trust any character as they all seemed a bit dodgy haha. This novel is an entertaining thriller that fans of the genre will likely enjoy (a lot of readers are very highly praising this one).
So I don't know if everyone else was reading another book but this by far has got to be one of the silliest books I've read in a while. And that's saying a lot. I've read some bad books in my time but this one definitely takes the cake. From the other reviews, I got the feeling that this was going to be a pretty different type of book and I was even willing to suspend all logical belief going into it because hey, it was supposed to be over the top. Well, this book is so over the top that you need to be basically silly and not a rational person to even believe half of what the characters are even doing. I can't even believe this book even got published. Let me elaborate further.
So, this first half of the book was based on the MC Phoebe Miller. She's a rich suburban housewife who basically lives like a hermit and her marriage is on the rocks. At the start, I thought the book was going to be a domestic thriller as there was some tension and the characters had a lot of secrets. The vibe that I got was that something big was going to unravel that would cause Pheobe's life to change. Her POV in the book had a lot of dark humour and I partly could understand where she was coming from though not much. We also caught glimpses of her dysfunctional marriage and her relationship with Wyatt. We got to see what made her tick and about her backstory. Her motivations and her view on every situation she faced. I found this part of the book bearable and was looking to see how things would play out especially as during this part she was being stalked by a car outside her house. We also get the POV of the stalker and I found that engaging. Add to this the explosive and overly dysfunctional dynamics between the Napiers gave this part of the book an edge.
Unfortunately by 45% of the book, that part of the premise was thrown out and the book takes a very bizarre turn. From that point on, nothing even made sense. The characters became unbearable and illogical. Even the plot devices were so childish that I felt I was loosing brain cells with each passing chapter. Like the majority of decisions the characters took or their motivations were not realistic in the slightest. No one in real life would even get away with it. In addition, I started noticing little details that didn't even make sense. In the book, Phoebe and Wyatt have been together for 15 years. From reading about her character, she came across as a woman in her early to mid 40s but then the author reveals her age to be much younger which I found to be so strange. Because as a person who is the same age as the character, I know for a fact that people wouldn't behave that way. So, the MC became irrelevant and unrelatable. In addition, there were some many instances in the book that were implausible, it's a wonder how I even finished it.
So overall, one of the worst reads I've had in a while. If you are looking for a book with no premise, horrible characters that lack development and no proper construction of plot devices. Then, by all means give this one a go.
This might be my fave book so far of 2020!!!! Holy cannoli!!!!!!! It grabbed me from the first page and I did not want to put it down. And this is the authors debut book?!!! Wow what an imagination she has!!! So many twists and turns you don’t know what’s going to happen next. A roller coaster 🎢 of a book!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend this one!!
Domestic thrillers can be my favorite type of thrillers because of the amount of secrecy and lies there are in families. The perfect family hiding secrets until its all exposed in the light. With that in mind, The Other Mrs. Miller should've been a good domestic thriller. Except I found the story and characters to be very underwhelming. From beginning to end, I had to endure characters that are as bland as grey wallpaper and a plot that dragged on more than it should have.
Where The Other Mrs. Miller fails to capture my attention are the characters. In thrillers, I'm supposed to care for the characters who are no doubt beginning to unravel the secrecy and deception. But all of the characters are just boring. I absolutely did not like Phoebe at all. She frustrated me to no end. Then there's Nadia and Wyatt and honestly, I could care less for them. We have a cast of forgettable and unlikeable characters that did nothing for the plot.
Speaking of plot, there is one that in theory, sounds pretty interesting. I will say that the one thing I did like was when we got to the 2nd part of the story was how it went in a direction I didn't expect it to go. Normally, these types of changes could be good if it flows well with the story or bad if it detracts from the plot. But the twist did work. In theory, however. Because after that, the story was still boring. I had to skim read most of it and when I skim read, that's never a good sign.
I know this is a short review but everything about The Other Mrs. Miller is forgettable. I'd rather listen to a dial tone for an hour than having to go back in my mind and try to conjure my memories of a forgettable book.
Say I dropped my sandwich on the kitchen floor. Well, I’d throw it away and make another one, and clean up the crumbs. The characters in this book would steal a bulldozer from the construction site next door, dig up the entire kitchen floor, and put a toilet in the middle of the room. Then they’d call the kitchen the new master bathroom, and expect no one to notice that it used to be, and obviously still is, a kitchen. Does my analogy even make sense? No, right? That’s how i felt about this book.
This was a fun read! I loved the campy plot...totally unbelievable but it never pretends to be anything it’s not. From the beginning you can tell it’s more Desperate Housewives than Broadchurch. Speaking of Desperate Housewives, the narrator sounds just like the voice-over actor from that show. I went into this totally blind and that’s how I’m recommending you read this too. I loved how it all wrapped up in the end!
