An Amish Mail-Order Bride #1

A Double Dose of Love

Rate this book
Prepare for a double dose of romance and fun when two sets of Amish twins find love.

Identical brothers Zeb and Zeke Bontrager aren’t looking for love. They have their hands full with a new horse farm, a half-finished ranch house, and a wild colt, thanks to Zeke’s hasty business dealings. Now Zeb must contend with Zeke’s bad decisions, hidden debts, and tendency to avoid responsibility, which threaten their good standing in the Birch Creek Amish community.

When a newspaper ad prompts Darla King to travel to Birch Creek in search of a husband, her identical twin, Amanda, promises their parents she’ll convince Darla to come home. After all, Amanda is the responsible and reliable one. She has always protected Darla, who acts on impulse and trusts people too easily. The sisters’ close relationship is strained as Darla asserts her independence and Amanda grapples with regrets of her past and the longings of her own heart.

When Zeb and Amanda join forces to protect Darla and Zeke from each other, none of them can possibly predict the outcome as all four come face-to-face with their highest hopes and deepest insecurities in the first installment of the Amish Mail-Order Bride series.

This is an Amish Fiction/Clean Romance, and this is the first book in the Amish Mail-Order Bride series. The characters grow on me, but I did not love them from the beginning. The storyline was good, but it also took me awhile to get into the storyline. I did enjoyed the ending, and I have a lot of hope for the second book in this series. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zondervan) or author (Kathleen Fuller) via NetGalley, so I can give honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

A Double Dose of Love by Kathleen Fuller is the first book in her new Amish Mail-Order Bride series.

Darla King is eager to marry and is excited when she reads a newspaper article advertising single Amish men available for marriage in Birch Creek, Ohio. She’s intrigued by the idea of being a so-called mail-order bride and immediately packs up and moves to Birch Creek to find her husband. Her identical twin Amanda isn’t keen on the idea of marriage, mail-order or otherwise, but moves with Darla because she’s always protected her, mainly from herself.

Identical twins brothers Zeb and Zeke Bontrager own a horse farm in Birch Creek, Ohio. The twins have always been close but are finding themselves more at odds since Zeke insisted on purchasing their own farm and moving from their parent’s home. However, they do wholeheartedly agree on one thing: they’re not ready to get married.

The two sets of identical twins meet and confusion reigns.

A Double Dose of Love is a double dose of everything good. It’s well-written. The characters are great, and the plot is engaging. I enjoyed this novel, rate it 4 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to all readers of Christian fiction, especially Amish fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Zondervan through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A Double Dose of Love by Kathleen Fuller is the first An Amish Mail Order Bride Novel. I like how this new series ties into An Amish Brides of Birch Creek series. I thought A Double Dose of Love was well-written with realistic characters. The book moves along at a steady pace and I enjoyed the humor. Darla King happens to see an ad for mail order brides for Birch Creek while unwrapping a punch bowl set that was sent to her mother. She believes God is directing her to go to Birch Creek where she will find a husband. Nothing is going to stop Darla from achieving her goal. The biddable Darla disappears before her twin sister’s eyes. I liked seeing Darla blossom in Birch Creek. She was finally getting an opportunity to stretch her wings and fly on her own (without her parent’s interfering). I am glad that the author took us back to Birch Creek where Delilah Stoll and Cevilla Thompson reside. Those are two humorous women. I like a book that makes me laugh and A Double Dose of Love certainly does that. There is a delightful meet cute moment for Zeb and Amanda. This is a sweet and amusing romantic Amish tale. A Double Dose of Love is a droll Amish story with horse hijinks, meddlesome matchmakers, parent problems, water worries, and twin troubles.

Come, I invite you to read and enjoy a fun book from Kathleen Fuller.
Doing the right thing and being honest about isn't always easy is it? Truth always comes out in the end doesn't it? Most definitely!
It makes you miserable when you try to hide any wrong doing.
Forgiveness is a necessary part if we want to be like Jesus. But that's impossible because we are, after all human.
I immediately liked Darla for her outgoing spirit and laid back way with people.
In my opinion, I felt that her family members underestimated her and therefore I cheered when she stood her ground.
My heroine!
But the one I felt sorry for was Amanda for all the hurt, fear and loss she has had to go through. Plus the jealousy too ouch!
Thing I found is and yes I know its hard don't be afraid to live. Jump back out there and get'er done! Nough said. Especially if it's in God's plan for you!
I loved it so much that I finished it in a couple of hours. It's so good that I recommend to everyone.
Kathleen's writing is exquisite. She's an excellent storyteller.
I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

A romance between two sets of twins is a fun story, and thankfully there was no assuming each other's identities as a plot device ;) The characters are so well fleshed-out, it was easy to get to know them quickly and understand their personalities, vulnerabilities and strengths. It's interesting to see the similarities between Zeb and Amanda as the responsible siblings, and their struggle with resenting their twin, yet loving and supporting them as well. A new business, a new town, a new relationship, a new friendship- it all weaves together while in the background, one set of parents tries to support, while the other set discourages. Since the story is divided equally between all four twins, I felt like my interest was as well- I believe I prefer one main couple to focus on, with the others as a subplot. Overall I love this author's writing style that brings depth and emotion to a sweet story.

Back in the community of Birch Creek with beloved characters Delilah and Cevilla whom have a knack of bringing two people together. This time around it is a double dose of love with twins Zeke and Zeb who live in Birch Creek who are setting up their own horse farm. Darla and Amanda who have come from their community to Birch Creek answering a Mail Order Bride Ad. Darla has always been the protected twin with her parents hovering over while Amanda is the responsible twin. Amanda is only going on the adventure to watch over her sister and to bring her back home as quickly as possible at her parents request.

Upon the set of twins meeting, each of them have faith lessons that they are learning. Zeke and Zeb's relationship is damaged by secrets and insecurities while Darla and Amanda are seeing each other in a different light. I enjoyed the unraveling of these characters and getting to know each one. It is the little things of faith that bring great promise!

A special thank you to Zondervan and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

How a newspaper ad changes lives, twin sister's living a sheltered life, with overly protective parents, are about to leave their Amish community for the adventure, or biggest mistake of their lives. Identical twins Amanda and Darla leave home and head out to the unknown, both with different ideas, one that she will find a husband and the other is looking to have her sister return home asap!
When they arrive at Birch Creek, they run into, literary, identical twin Amish men, who are trying to prove they are now grown and can take on responsibility of owning a horse farm.
What a welcoming place these girls have arrive at, the people couldn't have embraced them more, even these twins Zeb and Zeke.
At first I thought there was a spark between the twins, and then well, some people really need to grow up.
Come and enjoy a sweet read, and see if parents can let go, and if there will be any matched twins!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.

March-April - Ohio

This book and series are connected to the other Birch Creek series by this author. The story is about two sets of twins falling in love. They have obstacles and personal issues to overcome throughout the story. I'm not a fan of stories like this, but it was nice to see characters from past books and series again.

This was such a fun book. Amanda and Darla are twin sisters who go to Birch Creek after seeing an ad in the paper that there is a shortage of single women there. Zeke and Zebu are also twins who live in Birch Creek and have just purchased a home together. Each of the twins is so different and come with their own baggage. Will there be a double dose of love?

Following an ad to a new town with a short supply of women was a great start to this book. I really enjoyed it from the first page on. But I do enjoy a good mail-order bride story. And add that to an Amish story and you have a great story.
A book of two sets of twins and the issues of the past and another chance at happiness. I loved the story line which was fresh and new. It was so engaging that I found it very hard to put down. I definitely recommend this inspiring and sweet story. You won't want to miss this one. And it's book 1 of a new series called Amish Mail-Order Brides.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

A light-hearted Amish romance that follows two sets of twins as they take new chances and find love.

This is a quick fun read, upbeat with quirky characters. Darla King is the more impulsive of the twins, while her sister, Amanda likes to play it safe. Darla sees an advertisement for mail-order brides to a newer Amish settlement, having never been in a relationship before she jumps at the chance to spread her wings. Amanda agrees to go with Darla, but only to watch out for her and make sure that she stays out of trouble.

Amish twins Zeke and Zeb Bontrager are struggling to make ends meet with their shared horse farm, neither of them has time for romance. Zeke's financial struggles and poor business choices threaten to steal both he and his brother's dream.

I enjoyed this quick, lighter read, it is fun and upbeat. I liked that Amanda and Zeb were more more reasonable and level-headed, which allowed me to relate to them more, as sometimes Darla was just too much for me. The members of the Birch Creek community are welcoming and kind, and I liked how the women of the area especially were welcoming to both Amanda and Darla.

This was a enjoyable read that is a great start to the series as it introduces characters that we might see in the future and it has a fun premise. A sweet Amish romance that will bring a smile to your face.

I really enjoyed reading about the 2 sets of twins meeting each other. I enjoy reading about how identical twins can be so different from each other even though they look alike. This story had many twists and turns and I like that they think they are going there as mail order brides. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I received a copy of this book from edelweiss for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Kathleen Fuller was the original author who got me HOOKED a on Amish fiction! She is incredible with storytelling and building the scene. When you first see the title of this book, you might hesitate because you think there might be too many characters to keep up with. Truth is, it’s just right and I think you will absolutely love how it plays out. A great read and I highly recommend you read it if you love Amish fiction.

I think the book could be smaller and still remain very detailed, without becoming as boring as it was with unnecessary descriptions.

Also, one thing that made me sleepy was the “conflicts” because they are there but it’s as if they just didn’t happen because it doesn’t affect the story at all.

oh, and for a god-fearing man I really feel like Zeke lied a lot

A Double Dose of Love is a wonderful story written by Kathleen Fuller her series, An Amish Mail-order Bride. The characters are very likeable and likeable. Two sets of twins from two separate communities that wind their stories thru an add in the Amish newspaper. The two sisters leave their home in search of love and possibly a husband. One sister is definitely looking but the other is just along to keep an eye on the other. The set of twins brothers who have recently purchased a farm together are not looking to marry. The author has done a great job winding these two couples by accident and showing the reader how much they are alike. There are many twist and turns throughout this story and the reader may wonder if things can really work out between complete strangers. The couple that actually works out there problems may shock you.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Kathleen Fuller gives us another great, fun read in her new series, Amish Mail-Order Brides. I think we have all heard of mail-order brides when the West was being settled, but Amish mail-order brides is not something I would have envisioned in Amish reading.

This is a quick, enjoyable read about two sets of twins, Zeke and Zeb, and Amanda and Darla, who meet when the girls move to a new settlement after reading an advertisement for Amish mail-order brides. We become a part of their lives as we see the challenges they face as siblings, then as new friends, and how they face life as “grown-ups” learning to live independently of their siblings, but yet maintaining the closeness of twins.

My only criticism of this book was I found it frustrating at times to keep Zeke and Zeb straight with the closeness of their names. I didn’t experience that with Amanda and Darla.

I recommend this book to all lovers of Amish books. I received a copy of this book from Zondervan Publishers and NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

There is double the romance and double the enjoyment in this sweet love story of two sets of Amish twins Darla, Amanda, Zeke, and Zeb as they face insecurities, misunderstandings, nosy matchmakers, secrets, and past hurts on their way to finding love, trust, and second chances. The plot of this easy-to-read narrative flows at a steady pace with a few surprises here and there, and the characters are well-developed and engaging. It was unlike any Amish story I have read in that there was not a lot of emphasis on the Amish lifestyle. The idea of an Amish mail-order bride is different and interesting. This character-driven story with the messages of faith and forgiveness and reflections on the intensity and complications of sibling/twin relationships is an enjoyable, inspiring read.

An Unexpected Twist

I've always enjoyed Kathleen Fuller's books, so when I found out that she had a new series, I couldn't wait to read it. A Double Dose of Love was pure enjoyment. After reading the synopsis, I really thought I had the plot pretty well figured out. However, the author threw in an unexpected twist that made the story even more enjoyable. Great story!

3.5 stars.

A Double Dose of Love by Kathleen Fuller is a sweet Amish romance featuring two love stories.

Twenty-one year old Darla King loves her family but she is ready to marry and settle down. She is little bit flighty so her parents and twin sister Amanda are very over-protective. They also have doubts about whether she makes the right decisions. Her parents have kept her from courting due to their concerns for her well-being. When Darla finds an ad for mail-order brides in a nearby town, she sets things in motion to relocate. But when their parents learn of her plans, they insist Amanda accompany her. Will her twin sister thwart Darla's intentions to find a husband?

Amanda is much more serious and not as outgoing as Darla. She is not at all happy going with her twin, but she hopes they will only be gone for a few days. Much to her dismay, Darla not only gets a job right away, but she believes Zeke Bontrager is the man of her dreams.  Amanda turns to Zeke's twin brother Zeb for assistance in keeping Zeke away from Darla. She is surprised by how much she likes spending time with Zeb, but she is afraid of risking her heart.

Zeke is great at coming up with ideas, but he tends to run away when things do not go as planned. He is also impulsive which just adds to his problems.  He roped Zeb into purchasing a rundown farm but Zeke's ill-thought decisions have landed him in financial trouble.  He does not want Zeb to find out but his avoidance tactics are causing a great deal of friction between them. Zeke is not looking for love but he is finding Darla hard to resist.

Zeb loves his brother but he is running out of patience with his frequent absences from the farm. He is a hard worker but he is irritated that he is doing all of the work.  Zeb is taken off guard when Amanda asks him for his help, but he has no problem agreeing to assist her.  He finds Amanda's company very calming and he looks forward to seeing her. But he does not have time for love... does he?

A Double Dose of Love is an enjoyable Amish romance. The characters are likable and their various issues are realistic. There is a bit of an insta-love vibe to the romances so the couples' relationships feel a bit under developed. The characters grow and evolve over the course of the story. All in all, a charming first installment in Kathleen Fuller's Amish Mail-Order Bride series.

What a wonderful new addition to the Amish genre.....Mail Order Brides!!! Who'd a thought??!! WELL....that's exactly what twin sisters, Amanda and Darla King, decided to do when following through with a newspaper advertisement. Well, it was more that Darla was gung ho and Amanda was along to keep Darla in line and hopefully realize that they should go home as soon as possible. Guess what???.....Darla found the man of her dreams and was sure that God had put him in her life.

Amanda did not share her enthusiasm .....nor, did the "man of her dreams"!!! Zeke and Zeb Brontrager, were twin brothers who had their hands full, with the life they were struggling to live. A spirited horse, that needed trained, a farm that was in debt and only one of the brothers knew this....and more than they were able to see their way clear. BUT....Darla had her sights set on Zeke and hoped that Amanda and Zeb would follow suit.

Oh, the best laid plans....you will find the twists, turns and outcomes to be fun , entertaining and food for thought. Some things work and some things don't....secrets find a way of getting twisted and even the most hardened bachelor may find his heart doing flips.

I have enjoyed Kathleen Fuller's novels for years. This one does not disappoint. So, sit in your comfy chair, light a candle, grab your snuggly blanket, shut off the news and escape to the village of Birch Creek.....you won't be sorry!!
