About the author

Torin M Finser received his Ph.D. in educational leadership from Union Graduate School, his M.A. in education from Adelphi University, and his B.A. from Bowdoin College. He taught at the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School, where he also served as faculty chairman. Torin has done extensive consulting with schools in organizational dynamics and leadership development and has been a keynote speaker at conferences all over the world.

He is the author eleven books, beginning with School as a Journey, which has now been translated into Mandarin, Farsi, Thai, Arabic, Korean and Spanish. Other books include: School Renewal, Organizational Integrity, A Second Classroom, Parent Teacher Relations in a Waldorf School, Leadership Development and Education for Non-Violence. His Guided Self Study is used by many as an introduction to Anthroposophy.

Torin has served as General Secretary of the Anthroposophical Society in America and Chair of the Education Department at Antioch University New England. A founder of the Center for Anthroposophy, he has recently pioneered their new Building Bridges Program for practicing teachers in independent and charter schools.

‫انتهيت الفترة الماضية من قراءة كتاب المدرسة كمسيرة للكاتب تورين، وحقيقة الكتاب كان مترع بالتفاصيل الدقيقة. تحدث عن كل مرحلة بإسهاب، ماذا يحتاج الطفل وكيف يفكر، وماذا يجب أن نفعل.‬
للحظة كنت ولازالت أؤمن بأن المراحل الأولى للطفل هي الأساس لكل المراحل القادمة، هي بمثابتة قاعدة تحدد كل شيء وبالتحديد مثلما قال فينسر تحدد إذا ما كان -العقل غنيًا أو فقيرًا-
رحلة الثماني سنوات والتي تبدأ من مرحلة الروضة وحتى الصف الثامن رحلة ثريّة، تحدث فيها تورين عن التعليم، عن الوعي، عن العلف القصري، عن المعلم، عن كيف من الممكن أن نتكيف مع تغيرات كل مرحلة،
كتاب #المدرسة_كمسيرة كتاب لا يقرأ مرة واحدة فقط، بل مرات كثيرة، وهو من الكتب المهمة فعلاً، لغته ليست بالبسيطة ولا المعقدة، مليء بالنصوص الحيّة، والمبهجة والممتعة.
طبعًا هو من الكتب التي تبدأ بعدما تنتهي منها.

للأسف لست متخصصة في مناهج التعليم، فلن أستطيع المقارنة والمفاضلة بينها. لكن فكرة منهج الوالدورف تقوم على أن يرافق نفس المدرس طلابه من الصف الأول حتى الثامن. وبالطبع لن يتولى ذلك إلا أستاذ شغوف بالأطفال وبالعملية التعليمية، وليس مجرد موظف يسعى لكسب عيشه.

إن لم نستطع تسجيل أبنائنا في مدارس الوالدورف لعدم وجودها في الدول العربية، فلا أقلّ من أن يطّلع الأهل على هذا الكتاب، لتذكيرهم أن التلقين هو أفشل طرق التعليم، وأن أنجحها هو ما يقوم على المشاركة، وعلى استثمار خيال الطفل.

في الكتاب عدة قصص لا يمكن نسيانها. كتاب مهم وأعتبره إضافة مهمة للمكتبة العربية.

I have been interested in Waldorf education for years and am a teacher myself in the main stream system. This book allowed me to feel completely absorbed into a waldorf classroom and be a student for 8 amazing and inspiring years. I know this method of teaching is exactly what my daughter needs to be excited about school and learning - just have to figure out a way to afford it! The physicality of the lessons, the emphasis on nature study and play and the way history, geography and all subjects are taught are wonderfully illustrated. It just so happens to be Open House at our local Waldorf School today so we are going to go learn, craft and play!

I enjoyed every moment of reading this book (including reading the pages of notes at the end). Finser is a very gifted writer and storyteller. Taking the journey through a Waldorf class teacher's memories was a great way to understand some of the more out-there aspects of the educational model...things like curative eurythmy and the physical-etheric-astral-ego body seem kind of kooky without context.

Waldorf education is magnificent. This book told the story of the author's journey through eight years with the same group of children. The book is about 25 years old, but it could have been written yesterday. The ideas are timeless.

قرأت كتاب " المدرسة كمسيرة" بناءً على توصية نيڤين، في مجال لم أتخيل يوماً أن أقرأ فيه وهو مجال الطفولة وتعليم الأطفال..
الكتاب هو سيرة ذاتية لمعلم منهج والدورف لمدة ثمان سنوات مع المجموعة نفسها من الأطفال، حيث كل فصل تناول سنة دراسية بكل أحداثها وتجاربها وإحباطاتها ونجاحاتها في مدرسة بارينغتون - رودولف ستاينير الكبرى..
أسلوب الكاتب جميل وسلس يشبه الأسلوب الروائي بحيث يجعلك تعيش معه ومع طلابه خلال رحلة التعلم وبناء الشخصية، بالإضافة للكثير من التأملات والتساؤلات التي تصب في فهم تطور ونمو الأطفال.
الكتاب يعد مدخلاً أو مقدمة في منهج والدورف وأطوار نمو الأطفال، أحببت الكتاب وطريقة التعليم وأثار بداخلي الكثير من التساؤلات حول طرق التعليم السائدة، وبدأت أنظر للأطفال بنظرة تختلف تماماً عن نظرتي قبل أن أقرأه،
أسلوب التعليم الذي يربط المقررات الدراسية ببعضها البعض نال على إعجابي، حيث ربط التاريخ عند دراسة نابليون وحربه في روسيا مع درس الجغرافيا الذي تناول تضاريس تلك البلد ومنتجاتها وطقسها، ومن خلال وصف خصائص نابليون العاطفية والعقلية تم إثارة أسئلة من قبيل ماهي القيادة الحقيقية؟ كيف يعرف المرء متى يمكن الوثوق بشخص ما؟ وغيرها .. هذا كان غيضٌ من فيض ..
في نهاية الكتاب يوجد ملحق يشرح ويوضح نهج الوالدورف وأهدافه وكيف أنه يركز على ثلاث نشاطات للنفس الإنسانية وهي: التفكير، الشعور والإرادة وكيفية تنميتها خلال مراحل نمو الطفل ..
الكتاب رائع واستمتعت بقراءته جداً وأنوي البحث عن كتب أخرى تتناول موضوع التعليم والطفولة لأني أعتقد بأنه بالعودة لهذه المرحلة نفهم أنفسنا بشكل أفضل .. إذا كان لديكم مقترحات بخصوص هذه المواضيع أتمنى مشاركتي وسأكون شاكرة لكم 🌸

📚 يتحدث الكتاب عن منهاج الوالدورف الذي نشأ قبل سبعين سنة لمُؤسسه رودولف شتاينر والذي من أساسياته أن يقوم نفس المعلم بتدريس نفس الطلاب لمدة ثمان سنوات


📚 الكتاب مُوجه للمُعلمين والأهالي وأي شخص يتعامل مع الطفل.. فكرته الأساسية تقوم على أساس أن يكون الطفل جزء فعال في العملية التعليمية وأن لا يكون التعليم جامد أو تلقين بل حيوي وممتع


📚 يتحدث الكتاب عن مغامرات معلم مع طلابه وفق نظام الوالدورف .. وهو نظام مبني على ثلاثة أسس رئيسية الا وهي التفكير، والشعور، والإرادة


📚 يتحدث الكتاب أيضاً عن المواد التي يُدرّسها معلم الصف وكيفية تدريسها بطريقة تفاعلية مبنية على اللعب والتجريب والحركة والتفاعل والقصص والغناء

📚 رأيي : كتاب مفيد جدا وجدا فيه الكثير من الأفكار والنصائح والوسائل التعليمية التي يمكن تطبيقها والتي تجذب الطلاب وتُلهب حماسهم.. وكذلك قد يُؤخذ كمرجع ثري بالأفكار والاقتراحات الغنية التي تُساعد المعلمين على شرح معظم المواد..أكثر ما لفتني به أنه يلفت نظرنا أن التعليم لا يمكن حصره في المواد الأساسية فقط بل أكثر من ذلك فدور المعلم يتعدى إلى تعليم الطفل التفكير والتعامل مع الحياة والظروف المختلفة

I can't believe I forgot to review this book. I thought it was a really nice snapshot of this teacher's journey with his students and a nice peek into a Waldorf classroom. Although many mainstreamers think Waldorf is too out there, some of their principles and methods would do mainstream classrooms a world of good. If only all teachers could invest as much of themselves into education and their students! Torin Fisher is an inspiration to be a better teacher!

Interesting read about a Waldorf teacher and his class of 8 years. Worth a look if one is interested in alternative forms of education for children, or if one would like to infuse a traditional classroom with some light. I came across several activities and procedures that I'd like to implement in the classroom. Highly recommended.

Phenomenal. What I would have given to have had this kind of an education. What I deeply and profoundly hope my own children will get to experience in their own education. This teacher is beyond inspirational. And it certainly makes me excited about the possibilities for giving my children such a profound and well rounded experience of learning an the world.

This is the book that made me choose to put my daughter in a Waldorf school. Unfortunately, her teacher and school were not nearly as good as the school/class presented in this book. After 4 years, the last two of which were terribly painful, we withdrew her from the school. Still, I like the theoretical Waldorf education and I know it is successfully put in practice elsewhere.
