Paradise isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Few people know this as well as Jesse McDermitt, retired Marine and former government operative.

In the aftermath of an intense mission in coastal Mexico, Jesse wants nothing more than to get back to his boat; to just sail away and forget all about the firefight and his warrior past.

The Caribbean sun is warm, the azure water inviting, he has the woman of his dreams at his side, and everything seems to be smooth sailing.

Until a severed leg is found tangled in a line securing Jesse’s dinghy to his 61-foot sailing yacht, Salty Dog. The former owner of the appendage turns out to be the eighth victim of a lunatic who kills for money and a former Russian smuggler who won’t pass up a chance for one more big score.

Jesse is forced to don the warrior’s mask once again. This time to catch a ghoulish killer who is stalking the villages and jungles outside Belize City.

“Rising Thunder” is another great book by Wayne Stinnett. I was a bit confused, however, during the first six chapters. Maybe he wanted Charity in the book, and I appreciate her and admire her in his stories, but I didn’t follow the tale about Weller and the drug cartel. Maybe because I have forgotten some of the players in this series, but I didn’t enjoy the beginning of this book.
The rest of the book was typical Wayne Stinnett fare and I loved it. The plot was dark, but I believe that horrible stuff does happen in this world, and I hope there are people these days who go out to confront those wicked people.
I enjoyed the relationship between Savannah and their daughter, Florence, and the introduction of David as Florence’s friend.
Once again, the ending was superb, and the obnoxious evil villains got their comeuppance. I have no trouble recommending Wayne Stinnett’s books as you cannot put them down.

Not my favorite. Too dark.

I am addicted to the Jesse McDermitt series. This is my least favorite so far. I felt like it jumped from awful, sick, bad guys, to more awful, sick bad, guys. There was less of Jesse and his crew, and much more on the horrific things that humans are capable of inflicting upon each other. There was not a shred of humanity in the bad guys. Too dark on this one. Also too much detail on equipment, guns etc. I felt like that was filler this time, as opposed to cool information. I still liked it, but I enjoy a little break between awful opps. It felt rushed, and the interaction between regular characters was minimal.
Hopefully, this is an aberration, and the next in the series will go back to the typical Jesse stories. There was not one new likable character in the entire book.

Gunny McDermitt sails again

I have gotten great pleasure from reading every one of the Jesse McDermitt novels (and the Charity Styles novels as well). Wayne Stinnett really knows how to tell a story and his characters practically leap off the page, they are so real. Jesse once again brings justice to the Carribean in his own inimitable fashion while being reuntied with Savannah and their duaghter Florence. I recommend Mr. Stinnett’s books to anyone who likes crisp writing, well drawn characters, exciting action and exotic locales.

Good

This was one of the few Jesse books that I did not give a five star rating to, and that is almost purely based on the beginning and the end. The beginning action sequence with the drug cartel was completely out of place for me (maybe I should have re-read the previous book?) and the only reason I can found for it to be in this story at all was to bring Charity into the story. The ending... somehow I just don’t see Jesse placing the explosive and the sailing into the sunset without first apprehending the bad guy.

Buckle up; this one moves pretty fast.

KU borrow. Sometimes, in a Stinnett book, there's a little slogging through some technical stuff that, while interesting and mostly necessary to the story, slows down the action part. Not so in this one! To me, this was like a rollercoaster ride with very little uphill climb. Oh, and thanks, Mr. Stinnett, for deleting some of the depravity stuff. (See the end notes.) What there was, was enough for my imagination to more than fill in the blanks. Well done!

Jesse's love life is sorted, finally.

Nice to get back to business, flex the muscles of Armstrong. To was nicely balanced with family and support network.
Yes the story is a dark one, however it's happening way closer than you think it is to you. Modern slavery is higher now than it has ever been in history. Could be going on in your town, or right next door. They are broken, hidden, and guard things. If you get a bad feeling, or see anything within, take note and report it outside of the area involved. Evil thrives when good people ignore it.

Saying that a Jesse McDermitt novel is loaded with action, is redundant. They always are and this time is no exception. Jesse and Savannah have some things to work out, but it doesn't look like a trip down to Belize is going to do it. Need a drug cartel taken out and all of their drugs obliterated? No problem, Jesse is here. Taking down the financier and murderer of prostitutes to harvest organs, proves to be more of a challenge.

EXCELLENT

I am unable to put down the book and I have fallen asleep while reading Wayne's books. He writes in a way that makes you think you are standing next to the people in the book and watching everything unfold in front of you.

I recommend this book and the other books in the series.

Good handling of a difficult subject

This wasn't my favorite of Jesse's adventures because the subject matter was hard to take in. But evil exists, and this was a good exploration of the depths of depravity. Those who perpetrate these atrocities need to be hunted down and removed from the earth. Jesse does this ugly but necessary task in a grim but determined way.

A little on the dark side, but Stinnett does a good job of handling the subject. My question is: why did he choose to write about it in the first place? Are we getting a preview of a new member of the team? Is Jesse going to continue in his present role? Is he getting so close to Savannah that we're being set up for another loss? Stay tuned.

#17 Is a Lucky Number

Who knew that the number 17 was so lucky... Since I first was introduced to Jesse McDermitt (I don't even now remember how many years ago) this was THE BEST continuation of his story. This new chapter in his life is heartwarming, enthralling, and engaging, as well as continually exciting... can you tell, I loved it... come on August 2020!

Jesse's Thunder, Evil Taken Out

Jesse and team discover a very sick and twisted scheme. Jesse has a storm brewing inside of him, family or fight evil?

He questions if he can become a family man and if he has to stop fighting evil in the process.

The storm reaches its climax, and Jesse has his answer.

Another AWESOME McDermitt novel. I highly recommend!

This is the 17th in the series and I have read them all.
This was good - I did think there was a lot going on - different missions for Jessie to go on.

I liked seeing him getting settled with his old girlfriend and his daughter. I did miss his old stomping grounds, his island and Russ’ bar

I could not put the book down.....

The books in series just get better and better. Wayne just keeps on writing better stories he continues to write. Be prepared to be able to read until you finish the book.as you will find it very difficult to stop reading.

I am waiting patiently until Wayne's next book is out late summer/early fall.

Keep up the great work.

Even though, Jesse prevails

The addition of a family to Jesse's life is definitely a new story. Having to adapt to thinking of them before he goes on a mission, creates a new dimension in the man. A good read about finding what's more important in life and a glimpse of some of the darkness that lurks out there.

Gotta love Jesse!

This book was terrific. Fast paced and a bit different from previous Jesse stories. He's finding his footing again with a good woman at his side and his youngest daughter. Can't wait for the next one! It's set in my neighborhood. Its fun knowing all the places in a book.

Spellbinding

This book gave me chills and thrills along with a longing for a relationship with friends, coworkers, relatives, and lovers that have the total confidence in these characters in this series of books. I have thoroughly enjoyed each and everyone of Wayne Stinnetts books.

A classic Jesse McDermott adventure with non-stop action, whether it's diving, sand dancing or taking care of the bad guys. Jesse always has love, honor and respect for his family and friends and bad news for the evil creatures.
When I start a Wayne Stinnett story I know I won't want to put it down and this was no exception.

Great, but darker than usual,

As always, great characters, relationships and storyline. This is one of the more disturbing storylines for Jesse, but does reflect the real world we live in, regrettably. Glad to see Jesse in a good relationship, how long will Wayne let it continue?

Great

Once again an outstanding story. Jessie is pulled into a situation that takes his skills and associates to bring to a halt. He is getting to know his daughter Florence and working on his relationship with Savanna.

When the darkness comes Jesse fights for what’s right

I can’t say enough good things about this series of books. The main character and all that touch his life are almost real. The adventures are exciting and written well and easy to get lost in Jesse’s world. Great read.

Great read

This book kept you on the edge of your seat. I really liked how there was two stories and Jesse did something out of his comfort zone bringing in an ousider, and a young one at that to watch over his family.

Dark indeed. Jesse on a vendetta

I do love the characters and the setting of Rising Thunder. The story itself is scary. Once again Jesse is pulled into the case and gets the job done.
