Edited to mildly increase coherence. I wasn't coherent when I wrote this

Narrrgghghhh. Ahh! Ahhhhh!

Those are incoherent flailing noises. I didn’t think ANYTHING could top Learn my Lesson—and I was broadly indifferent about this book concept but … err … I think it might be my new fave?

What? How?!

Don’t get me wrong, Meg and Hercules own my heart (and potentially some other bits of me as well) but Hades was kind of the weak link in that dynamic for me. Emphasis on for me. I mean, I like his square glasses? But I’m the opposite of into the cool, controlled dom trope—and I know Hades does show some vulnerability towards the end but, eh, HE HURT MEG (for quite a long time, in ways she did not consent to) and while, if I were in Meg’s position, giving me Hercules would probably go some way to soothing my feelings … I never felt I got enough from Hades to give a damn about him, beyond the fact he does come through for Meg eventually and take some actions to prove his devotion.

In any case, Hook is the anti-Hades, despite the fact I didn’t rate him much in earlier books. Kat described him as an alpha cinnamon roll, which sounds impossible, but it’s absolutely accurate. He’s a fully-rounded character, equally driven by protectiveness and vulnerability, hyper-focused on Tink in a way that never comes across as creepy (there’s a scene where he recognises she’s sub-dropping in the middle of scene, and immediately ends things so he can take care of her) and—someone play the Hallelujah Chorus right fucking now—HE’S NOT A COLD DOM.

Oh my God, THANK YOU.

Listen, I’m not trying to shame anyone who is into the whole remote, controlled-to-the-point-of-omnipotence thang. But Hook is in control in a way that is just gorgeously warm, loving, tender and, like, fun? Like he’s actually, y’know, enjoying what’s happening? I know, right? A dom giving verbal and visual evidence of liking being a dom. WHAT EVEN IS THIS WILD SHIT.

And I don’t mean to make a big deal out of this, he says, making a big deal out of it, but without implying a value judgement in any direction I do wish there was more variation in the, err, dom/me-type in romancelandia. And, again this might be a me thing, but for me I think one of the major issues with the cold dom archetype is that I can see it functioning effectively as what you might call a space of fantasy. But it’s not exactly the sort of thing you can, well, identify with, is it? I mean, again, I’m going to some places here, but I’d be a bit worried if there was a regular pattern of standing over your tied up sex-partner with an implement in your hand, being like “I should probably act as detached and disinterested as possible right now while we partake of this extremely intimate and trust-based activity.” Which, in romland terms, creates this weird expectation that dom/mes are these figures of abstract sexiness we’re allowed to fancy but not actually supposed to ever inhabit.

Anyway: Hook = not that.

And I really need to stop talking about Hook because, as much as I adored him, Tink is everything. But before I zoom Tinkwards, I’ll just add that Hook won extra brownie points from me by, err, and I shouldn’t have to say this like it’s an unusual trait, listening to the heroine? There’s a bit early on where he consistently refers to Tink as Tatiana, a name she has chosen to leave behind, but the moment she tells him to stop calling her Tatiana he—actually let me quote the scene:

I spread my arms and give her a wide grin that I know will spike her blood pressure. “You can touch if you like, Tatiana.”

“Stop calling me that.”

“It’s your name.”

She props a hand on her hip. “Not anymore.”

It’s tempting to argue, but ultimately it’s not my call what she chooses to call herself. If she sees Tatiana as representation of the person she was before, who the fuck am I to argue? “Okay,” I finally say. “Not anymore.”

I mean, yes? Hard yes? Why does this feel so fucking revelatory: a hero who listens, empathises, and knows when to push and when to back off? Spaces of fantasy/identification are so complicated in romance, potentially even more so in m/f, but I will say for this Hook—I don’t necessarily identify, but I fucking aspire.

But, anyway, let me get on to Tink because she’s amazing: much like Meg, she’s both damaged and strong, and neither of those things are presented as being in conflict. The plot, like most of the Wicked Villains plots, is made out of tissue paper and candyfloss (and no complaints here, these books do not NEED plots, they’re for sexytimes and surprisingly meaningful emotional arcs): but essentially Tink agrees to a political marriage with Hook, in order to protect her from her abusive-ex, Peter, who once held power in the territory that Hook now controls. I don’t really have standing to make the sort of claims but, to me, Tink’s backstory is really well-handled. Its effect on Tink is real and significant, but it’s not dwelled upon, letting Tink fully occupy the narrative as the person she has worked to become.

Which, let’s be clear, is a volatile smartarse who is terrified of the things she wants outside the bedroom. But she’s kind of amazing. As is the way Hook woos with her, with adoration, attention, an understanding of who she is and, at one point, a smoulderingly hot fivesome. Ahem.

Something else I felt was well-handled—and, again, is not really something I have standing to talk about—was the fact that Tink is (and I use the following word descriptively rather the pejoratively, moreover it’s the word she uses for herself) fat. For me, the text does a really excellent job of balancing this as a natural part of how Tink looks without obsessing over it or feeling obliged to define precisely what fat means in the context of Tink. I’ve read quite a few romances with fat characters and for me—cue up the “out of my lane “siren again—the least successful ones involve getting all qualitative about the weight/size/dimensions of the character. Because that can imply broader judgements that no text should probably feel comfortable making (plus there’s the added WTF of sometimes getting page 263 only to discover that the apparently fat heroine is size 12). In any case, I loved that Tink was fat, and I loved that she was able to feel both confident and comfortable about it but also, on rare occasions, insecure—particularly because she was what would be considered a social “ideal” bodywise when she was in her abusive relationship. Regardless of body shape or type, nobody is 100% happy 100% of the time, and I think fat characters are sometimes trapped in this impossible situation where they either have to be super okay all the time else they’re failing to Represent or they’re a shamed wreck until the last chapter of the book, when maybe they might be allowed to have learned to love themselves a little bit maybe.

I should also mention, something I’ve only recently noticed is extra-delicious about this series—and Tink is not an exception here—is the way all the switchy or submissive women are allowed to be totally in-tune with desires. Even Jasmine in Desperate Measures, who isn’t very experienced, still has a very clear notion of what she’s about and what she’s into. I don’t mean to keep whining about “usual” romaland kink dynamics (because sweeping judgements are both icky and generally incorrect) but because Cold Omnipotent Dom tends to be the favoured archetype, that usually results in a Totally Inexperienced Submissive Heroine. Which, don’t get me wrong, is fine. Hot, if that’s your thing. But, again, it contributes to this broader idea that sex is something the hero GIVES to the heroine. Whereas in the Wicked Villain series—because the heroines are already familiar with and in control of their own desires—sex is something the hero SHARES with the heroine. It also allows for depictions of submission that are active and informed, even when control is being surrendered or taken.

A really intriguing example of this in action popped up in this book. So, early on Tink tells Hook she doesn’t want him, which Hook—being Hook—immediately respects. But then he promptly turns it into a sex game by the pulling the ol’ “but if you want to have sex with me you’ll have to crawl and beg for my cock.” This is a bit of a romance, and erotic romance, staple. And normally I am not so keen on it because it seems largely about humiliating the heroine. Or maybe I just personally find it humiliating because, well, I’ll beg for forgiveness and the last After Eight mint but cock? Not so much. Regardless, it works incredibly well here, because it feels more about giving Tink the space she needs to accept what wants (Hook in general, not just his boner) and allowing her to consent explicitly both to sex and to the relationship as a whole in a framework that works for her emotionally and sexually. It’s really fucking clever.

And the scene itself is

I don’t want to spoil it but Hook is ALL INTO IT, both emotionally and literally, and Tink feels sexy and completely desired—and so it’s no longer this thing (though to be frank it never was to begin with) the hero demands from the heroine. It’s a gift Tink gives to Hook. One she feels empowered to give, and he feels humbled to receive.

ARGH. I’M DYING.

THIS BOOK. I MEAN. THIS BOOK.

And, oh my God, it’s 5am and I’ve written a 1.6k word essay on GR about it.

Anyway, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t pick at something. So … I found it mildly odd that anytime Hook’s skin was mentioned it was described as “medium brown.” I mean, not that it was described in this way (and, obviously, medium brown is about the least fetishistic way you can possibly convey the notion that someone’s skin is … medium brown), but that it was ALWAYS described this way? I mean, yeah, yeah, I got it, he’s got medium brown skin. Maybe it was an attempt to push back against white-defaulting, I don’t know.

Also I have Gaeton-related qualms. I got qualms. So he’s, well, he’s Gaston, and there’s hints about some dramaz between him and a dude known as The Beast and some girl they were both into, which I think is set-up for the next book. And the deal with Gaeton is that he’s a switch (yay) but he doesn’t sub in public (uh…I mean, I respect your boundaries of course, but that feels less like a boundary and more like a masculinity crisis to me) and his subbing seems super-connected to being penetrated by a human penis. Which makes me slightly sighful. Just because, well, sure, sure, it’s fine for your subbing to take whatever form it takes but there’s such a widespread assumption that penetration, especially for a person who identifies as a man, is INHERENTLY submissive that, well... I don’t know. These books are so unapologetically queer and kinky in so many different directions that I wish we could have avoided this one. I might be borrowing trouble though.

(PS - The Beast is in this book for all of one scene, he puts his dick in Tink’s mouth during the fivesome, during which he is otherwise silent—behaviour she notes is slightly hot but also deeply weird. Based on this alone, I don’t think I’m here for The Beast as a hero. Go away, you creepy silent mouth-dicking person).

All of which said, this book is an absolute fucking delight. The whole series has been so far. It’s make me impossibly happy in a time when, well, things are a bit rough, aren’t they? Rough in the non-sexy way.

PS - my other favourite trope of this entire series is that at about the 75% mark we always get to the point where a plot beat is happening. The bad person is coming back. Action must be taken. It's all very tense and stakes are high whatever. But the protagonists always react to the tension by having a really extravagant sex scene. Like, we're feeling worried, QUICK TO THE BED MOBILE. I think all allosexuals could benefit from this as a metal health strategy. "Stressful day at work tomorrow, let's invite our hottest friend threesome." "I'm concerned about the electricity bill, LET'S BANG."

Another great installment in the Wicked Villains series! I do think that this one might be my least favorite so far, but it was still really fun and I fully intend to see the series through to the end. Def recommend if you like classic Disney movies but also think they would be fun if they were sexy lmao

Genre: Erotic Romance/Suspense
Type: Standalone book 3 from Wicked Villains series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

For five years Tatiana (Tink) Petrov sold her freedom in exchange for a much needed protection. No longer under the deal, she was forced to fend for herself until Jameson Hook made an offer she couldn’t refuse. However, in doing so, she risked getting herself back into the very situation she escaped from.

I’ve done unforgivable things to ensure I remain on top. Things that have stained my soul in a way I’m not sure I’ll ever recover from.

Tink attracted my attention since the first time she appeared in the series with her sassy personality and I liked how she showed her vulnerabilities in this one. I loved how Hook was not who I expected him to be and I liked the way their past bound them.

The story was a little slow for me in the first half of the book, but it picked up after. I liked that this one explored more of the territory dynamics. However, I wanted a certain character to have a bigger role considering how this person affected both the main characters' lives.

“Beautiful girl, you know better. There are thousands upon thousands of things I can do to you without ever penetrating that pretty pussy.”

Judging by the other books in the series, I expected this one to be as scorching as the others. The author delivered the type of scenes that I crave and thoroughly fulfilled my needs lol!

A Worthy Opponent is a story of taking back control. It would appeal to readers who enjoy an erotic, modern fairytale reimagined.

My soul hates Hook. My body hasn’t gotten the memo. But then, my desires always did get me into trouble.

This series has quickly become one of my favorite guilty pleasures. It's deliciously wicked and sinfully hot. Katee Robert manages to merge together some sizzling hot erotica with an addicting story and characters that you can't help but love. Think has been a character that I've been intrigued with since the beginning of the series. She's feisty, sassy and has this live wire spark to her that shines bright even as a secondary character. Now we finally get her story and you come to find out that there's some dark secrets behind that smart mouth of hers. And it'll take a sexy villain to offer her a bargain with the devil in order to survive.
Here are the updated terms. I will not negotiate further. You marry me. I kill Peter. When you decide you’re tired of playing hard to get, you’ll crawl to me and beg for my cock. I’m all too happy to give it to you any way you like. Every way you like.”

Hook has wanted Think for years and he's not above playing dirty to finally get her in his bed. He'll protect her from a man she fears and in exchange she'll give him the one thing he craves, her begging.

If you're expecting a traditional MF here, you'll be sorely disappointed. This book is sizzling hot and one of the things I love most about this series is the different kinks each one explores. Hook's kink just so happens to be voyeurism and I'll let you use your imagination on that. There's some MMF and MFM and all of the hot f*ckery!!! I'm saying HOT here people! Now I'm desperate for Beast's story because holy hell, that set up!!!

It pains me to give this such a low rating but I really just did not enjoy Tink or Hook’s characters. Their story was bland except for the sex, and since I’ve fallen out of love with BDSM, that didn’t work for me either. It took me forever to get into the story and if I’m being honest, I don’t think I ever did get invested at all. I’m not sure I should continue with this series? I did enjoy book 1 but mostly for the novelty and uniqueness of romances with Disney villains.

After five years under the protection of Hades, Tatiana “Tink” Petrov’s contract is over and now she must confront the danger of her past. Knowing who lurks in the shadows, Tink’s options are limited but Jameson Hook offers an alternative that may be more than she could have bargained for.

“No one in our world offers something for nothing. Power, submission, sex; tit for tat.”

Told in dual POV, Tink’s bold personality shines as she isn’t one to back down and it only serves to attract Hook. Having been intrigued by Tink for some time, Hook knows exactly what she needs and is willing to make it happen. Both and Tink and Hook have past scars that have shaped them, which makes their exploration even richer.

“The fact she won’t give me the time of say only makes me respect her more.”

Set in a world where territories are divided and the Underground is where those go to play, Hook and Tink are quite familiar with each other’s kinky proclivities. Together, they are hot together and Hook is the type to entertain in many pleasurable ways. These times were definitely dirty, combustible and I loved the different dynamics.

“Finger fuck your come into me, Jameson. Make me messy.” Jesus Fuck. I lean down and kiss her hard, and then I do exactly as she wants.”

I also enjoyed the overall plot as past fears converged into the present, but wanted a little more when it all started to explode. However, an additional standout is the push/pull between Tink and Hook and how they define their own relationship.

A Worthy Opponent is an erotic romance about reclaiming one’s path. This book would appeal to those who enjoy a kinky fairytale retelling.

This was definitely a tad bit better than the previous book. The plot still wasn’t developed enough for my liking. Peter was supposed to be this evil character that Hook had to stand off with, but I was more interested in the relationship between Tink and Hook. We got to see them interact in previous books so I was looking forward to a book where we got to see their banter first hand. This book definitely didn’t disappoint in that area. I loved that both of them had their guard up, but it took a fake marriage for them to realize that they truly needed each other. It was sweet, much sweeter than I anticipated. And the steamy scenes were hot. I mean extremely hot especially the one between Tink, Hook, and, Gaeton. My goodness that had me fanning myself. I’m definitely going to continue with the series but I hope that we start getting a little bit more plot development in future books.

I only meant to re-read the bits where Hook booms out a laugh for the first time, Hook calls Tink “beautiful girl” for the first time, and Meg delivers the iconic “No, I’m a Fury.” line.

But I ended up re-reading the whole thing.

original review

Oh god. This book. I wasn’t expecting to like it a huge amount. Hook did not make a good impression on me. I thought he came across too much like a douchey alphahole. And while I’m not averse to books with douchey alphaholes, the thought of reading one felt jarring after experiencing Hercules (THE MOST PRECIOUS OF BEANS). So I was in this for Tink and that was about it.

But oh god. This book. I loved it super fucking hard. The Hook you think you know of previously? It doesn’t remotely prepare you for the actuality of him. The blurb says he’s a cinnamon roll alpha hero which had me like HOW. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME KIND OF PERSON. But he is. He so totally is. From the second he boomed out a laugh I knew it was all over for me.

What can I say about Tink? She is like a human hedgehog: prickly on the outside; softer underneath. She is also mean as fuck at times (please give me more mean heroines kthanx) which is I think partly innately her? But I think it’s also a defence mechanism as she copes with her shitty past which has left her, unsurprisingly, damaged. This is Tink’s book, but her arc actually starts in Desperate Measures. To think of how she is there, to what you get a glimpse of in book 2, to the journey she goes through here gave me FEELINGS.

This book did one of my absolute favourite romance things where a character (Tink) who has been through horrible shit learns to feel safe. And I mean safe in every way it can be meant: emotionally, mentally, and physically. Hook is obviously integral to this, but the way he understands Tink, anticipates her needs, loves her so utterly and completely even when—especially when—she’s at her most vulnerable and extra feral is just... IT JUST REALLY GAVE ME A LOT OF FEELINGS OKAY.

Me: no more terms of endearments in books please I beg of you
Also me after every time Hook calls Tink “beautiful girl”: 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

There was also another of my absolute favourite romance things (I’m so spoiled by Katee Robert) where one character stops calling another by their nickname and uses their real name at times of significance. Tink did it with Hook and it was like a record scratch every time. And then you’d get Hook realising the significance of her doing it as well. *mumbles about FEELINGS* *bites fist*

This has been rambly and incoherent and I've missed mentioning probably another dozen things I adored. I just really loved Tink and Hook so very much and I miss them already.

This is my favorite wicked villains book so far. Hook and Tink had a great relationship, and the steam was soooo good. I loved the scenes in this one. Hook was a fantastic male lead, he loves tink so much and it was adorable and a contrast to how dominant he is. Tink is sassy and takes charge of her life despite her terror that Peter will come for her once her contract with hades is up. Their pining for one another for 5 years is 10/10 i always eat that shit up. But what really made this good was the MMF scene and the MMMFF scene. Hehe. The audio book was well done as well!! It had multiple narrators

As I have read the series out of order this is my last one. It's been very hit and miss with my reading experience. I loved the one with Ursula but not the rest very much. It's more of a smutty series and while I enjoy smut the plot itself wasn't very memorable. Might read something else by Katee Robert soon but won't binge the whole series if the first one isn't great

“I don’t believe in knights on white horses. Maybe I did once, but the only people out there searching for damsels in distress are more dangerous than anything said damsel leaves behind.”

This is a story that’s an erotic play on Captain Hook, Tinker Bell and Peter Pan. I enjoyed this read because Peter is the villain, and I honestly could not EVER stand him in the movies/book. He’s so whiny and he takes children from their homes at night. It just always creeped me out. ANYWAY, this story is a darker play on that obviously. There are triggers. Past domestic abuse, that is alluded to, but is mostly off book. I rated this low, because it did feel like a bit was missing from the story. Also in the first books the sex always felt like it flowed with the story. In this book it was like “ok we just found out some devastating news, and we are stressed, but let’s have a full on sex scene!” Don’t get it twisted they are hot scenes, but one or two felt a little forced into the story.

All in all this was a good read. If you ever wanted to know how things would go if Hook & Tink were paired up in a dark adult erotic way, then you may like this story 🤣

🧚🏼‍♀️ It wasn't bad, I was just not interested enough to continue.
🧚🏼‍♀️ And I couldn't bring myself to care for Tink and Hook or any other characters from future books really... (might still continue with the series sometime if the mood strikes)
🧚🏼‍♀️ Sex was not all that special. I mean, there was a fivesome! I expected a volcano but got a tiny little dying flame.
🧚🏼‍♀️ Maybe it was truly me and not the book because somehow I managed to get lost in a nonexistent plot. Yeah, shit happens.

Was this objectively good? No. Not all at all. Was it a fun read? Yeah.

This book was far from perfect. The writing style was choppy and there was some glaring errors.

However, I do feel like this was the best book in the series so far. Tink and Hook both have the best chemistry. This series is far from being considered a true romance novel, but this couple was the best romantically developed.

I loved how their banter and how well their two personalities mixed together. There was so much built up tension and sexual frustration. And the fact that Tink picked her safe word- Pirate- after him? Omg.

Tink- She was a bratty submissive. Who is working through the problem of ex-boyfriend, Peter. She’s having a hard time figuring out her place in Carver City and facing reality of her feelings.

Hook- A dom, who’s been having feelings for Tink for a long time. He’s been a lot more of a softer dom than the other doms in the series. He worries for Tink and always values her happiness.

I think Hook has been my favorite MMC just because I imagine him as the Hook from Once Upon a Time.

Anyways, the story was sex heavy. It got pretty kinky- (there was a fivesome with Malone, the Beast, and Gaeton) but the softer scenes with just Tink and Hook were the best. There was more of an emotional connection to those scenes that I really craved in this series.

The storyline was quick- for a two hundred page erotica. I would have liked to see more after the climax. There was a lot that could been explode more. Like what happened to Wendy. Also we got an introduction to the Beast? Why that his name? Or the “Man in black.” Seemed like an odd name. Maybe it’ll be explored in The Beast.

this is a series of seven books (6 actual novels plus a collection of short stories and additional scenes) and I am not even gonna tell you how fast I read all of them… spoiler alert: incredibly fast ;) but who would know how much I needed in my life a dark, contemporary, erotica retellings of Disney villains getting their happy endings with lots of BDSM on the way… ;) not me, that’s for sure… honestly, I am shocked by how addictive this series is… and I am totally blaming it on the amazing writing style of Katee Robert :) I’m just gonna write one review for the whole series, cause in each one I would just repeat myself :) so here goes :) first of all, these books are hot as fuck… they are very well written, but make no mistakes, there is just enough plot to move things along and the majority of each story focuses on the (very sexy) romances… not only we have all sorts of sexual preferences and kinks included, I loved how it was just… there… no judgement whatsoever… consent is the one rule everyone abided by and when it comes to everything else, just do whatever works for you :) we also have a lot of different… let’s call them relationship dynamics, shall we? :) we have an FF couple and polyamorous relationships (both MMF and FFM) and it’s glorious :) my personal favourite is the third one (A worthy opponent) with the sixth one (Queen takes rose) a close second :) there are also gonna be (at least as off right now) two spin-off series, and you can bet your ass I already bought / pre-ordered all of those books :) if you want to find an amazingly well written escape from reality that will make you melt all over, look no further and pick this series up :)

I really liked this one, and I am a hugeeeee sucker for a Peter Pan/captain hook retelling (once upon a time has me loving hook 😮‍💨).

First off, ALL OF THESE BOOKS ARE SO DAMN HOT. Like Jesus. Katee put her whole katussy into these and I am so glad 😂

The tension between tink and hook is so hot and when they finally give in… oh my god.

ONTO THE NEXT. This one set up for the next book well because I am dying to read the beasts story.

Spice: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Tropes:
Peter Pan retelling
Villain gets the girl
Marriage of convenience
Enemies to lovers
Group activities 😮‍💨

A Worthy Opponent is smoking hot just as its predecessors. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Tink and Hook have a banter filled, tension filled, hate-love relationship with lots of chemistry. I love the tug of war aspect of their relationship but what I loved most was the way Hook saw her and treated her, that she alone got that side of him. There's kinky shenanigans a plenty in this book along with a suspense of sorts. I loved it and highly recommend it.

3.5 ⭐

We saw many bits and pieces of Hook and Tink in the last 2 books now it's their turn. Now reminder.. there is alot and I mean ALOT of sharing in the wicked series. everything in this is consent.

Tink has been in Hades territory scared of her ex Peter, and her time and deal is coming to a end, but a meeting with sorta enemies Hook ask her a question.. Be his wife, his lover, his woman in every way and he shall have Peter's head on a sliver trey for her. At first she denies the deal until Peter makes a appearance that has her scared to death of what he has done to her.

Now she agrees to Hooks deal and boy Hook is smitten with Tink.. like more smitten then the past villians and one of my top guys. I think he beat out Jafar on dirty scale. When he gives Tink a yummy treat.. a 5 some.. yes 5 some many Delicious men and a woman doing dirty things to Tink.

But Tink does fight her feelings for Hook since she has been burned by love. But that doesnt stop Hook from taking down her walls. Now he has a promise to keep get rid of Peter.

We also get a tiny sample of The beast.. and I'll be honest it doesnt intrest me.. the hate sex.. or hate hate relationship is meh to me so I'll pass on that.

Om drama (Tinks ex Peter), no cheating, drama, secondary charas, sex & more Sex, no virgins

Recommend- yes

God these two were on fire. So hot esp. when they invited Gaeton into their bed with Hook calling the shots on them both. *chef’s kiss
