3.5 stars.

“That was Anakin. The Jedi that Typho mentioned. Even as a child, he served our queen. After she died, he vanished. We mourn his loss as we mourn hers.”

If I had known that this issue would make this emotional I would read it with more care.

To say that this was a twist that I was most certainly not expecting is not enough. I mean, my heart ached, I was incredibly proud and happy, and salty, all at the same time.

The fact that this story is probably my favorite in the Star Wars universe just makes it more bittersweet. Because that's exactly what this is, extremely bittersweet. With the sad recollections of an age long gone and the love that was gained by too pure souls.

I was not expecting this Vader comics to deal with this but, hey, you won't see me complaining any time soon.

It may become of my faovrite pieces of Star Wars literature.

“For Padmé… and for Anakin.”

This actually hurts a lot more than I was expecting.

Vader revisits the past and the prequels are given a bit more context, it makes you look at them in a different light. I really like how this story is unfolding and I’m really looking forward to the nest issue.

Gah! What a cliffhanger!!!

I waited so long for this comic! (sobs in Millennial)
Definitely worth the wait! I feel it's critical to have read The Queen's Shadow to understand some of the specifics regarding the Amidalans. It's nice to see the tie-in.

Well, this is really excellent work!

Pak's writing is fantastic and Ienco's art is fantastic. But what made this exceptional for me is how well it connects to Queen's Shadow. Which shouldn't be surprising considering that was very much Sabe's book, as much as it was Padme's, and this comic focuses on Sabe and her search for the truth about Padme's death.

Although, of course, she knows...or, at least, she thinks she knows who killed Padme...and Anakin...and thereby hangs the twist in this tale.

As much as I wondered what more there was to say about Vader, what new take Pak could possibly have, using this series to explore the fact that...well...it's Anakin in that black armour, the same guy from the Prequels and the Clone Wars...and just what that really means, is something that I didn't know I needed, but I'm very glad that Pak's giving it to us.

As I've mentioned in my Podcast, I have been enjoying this run and how it ties back to the prequels and hopefully gives it a better light among fans.

This comic series is incredible, well worth the delay and wait.

I love that this fills in the gaps of the “Vader years,” giving us a look into what he does during this time. If you are a Star Wars fan this series is a much and I cannot wait until the 4th and final installment!

The first couple issues didn't impress me much, and I did worry that the prequel nostalgia would feel too overwhelming. While there is a lot of it here, it felt more purposeful for the story. We get to see Captain Typho again, expressing his guilt over letting Padme go to Mustafar herself. And we get a little glimpse at the immediate aftermath of the Queen's Shadow novel. It looks like Jar Jar may have been with the Amidalans, if I'm not mistaken.

3,5/5. It was good to finally being able to go on with this series. Maybe not the best issue but a good one, entertaining even if not really original.

An exceptionally fun read. First off, fixes something I've had an issue with for this volume. Starts off with a splash page for which I would pay big bucks. Lots and lots of references to Phantom Menace and the Queen Amidala handmaiden books by EK Johnston. All the references made are done without feeling forced. If I'm honest, I was concerned about Greg Pak taking over this title. But I am now a believer.

Review for the series: I think this is pretty interesting. I like the idea that Vader was a little shaken after the events of ESB and would have delved a bit more into Luke's background, especially how he was hidden from him for so long. It did start to lose me at the end, however, as it got more into the Emporer's secret plans (been there, done that, saw the movie), but I did really enjoy the writing and the artwork a lot. Clearly a lot of effort and heart was put into this series.

Finally! A Star Wars comic that shows the galaxy (or at least some of it) reacting to the deaths of Padmé and Anakin Skywalker.

I am enjoying the story looking at things from a different point of view, I am not sure that I like where it is heading, something about it sits wrong with me, but I love Vader so more Vader is a good thing.
