Resident Evil is entering its 30th anniversary this year, 2026. What better way to celebrate then to drench myself in the history of the series through the different mediums. Whether it’s admiring the gnarly art of graphic novels, reading the actual novelizations of the vast stories in the universe, playing some of the previous games, even appreciating the CG straight to home videos and reliving the Milla Jovovich questionable movies, I want to live and breathe the BIOHAZARD in. Especially in anticipation of the next chapter: REQUIEM.
Going to keep it short and simple because the whole story for Code: Veronica is split into four trade paperback volumes of graphic novels. (About 140 pages each) This is my second favorite in the series after RE2. So it got a grand comic adaption. This third volume continues the gorgeous art work by Hui King Sum and the fast paced pulpy action.
It’s time for Chris Redfield to have some fun! While Claire and Steve are held hostage and become the B storyline, we get a POV shift to Chris searching for his sister at the Island they just escaped. I got all giddy with the flashbacks to resident evil 1’s final climax especially with this artist’s epic filled panels. This comic really pops, the movements never steady. You feel you’re adrenaline pumping.
The return of Wesker just as deliciously filled with that 90s banter. The face closeups a delight, I laughed hard with some of Chris’s one liners. Funny how much he uses his fists to solve problems. The boulder from resident evil 5 has nothing on the creatures Chris punches in this. Overall, this volume was a blast and a welcome change in dynamics.
Claire and Steve are still our stars even in the less screen time given. Their relationship better portrayed in this with added dialogue that’s not found in the game. They share a moment of laughter before all hell breaks lose. Unto the final, Book Four!
