I enjoyed this book. The charcters were lively, interesteing and human. The two sisters who are totally different and their husbands live in a large family manor house in England. Left to their guardian on her husband's death bed. Arising from common backgrounds in America their guardian and one sister, Tamsen, enjoy the new found wealth and setting of the beautiful Yorkshire moors. On the other hand sister, Arabella, strives to relocate to London, so she can move within the circles of Her Majesty Queen Victoria's Court, and find an eligible husband for her remaining daughter, Luka. The daughter has different ideas. Luka does fall in love with the neighbouring Lord's son but when it is discovered, Alistar, was handicapped at birth with a spinal injury, her mother sets on a course to protect her beautiful delicate daughter from all contact. This causes the breakdown of her own marriage and many tragic events follow. A delightful interesting novel of love, disharmony, friendship and poignant struggles among family members.
I inherited the first 5 books of this "series" from my aunt. This is one of the few romance stories/series that I liked. Well written and not too soppy. The characters actually have character!
