About the author

Tiziano Sclavi is an Italian comic book and novel writer, who has also worked as a journalist. Sclavi is most famous for creating the Italian bestselling comic Dylan Dog, started in 1986 and still ongoing, a horror pastiche featuring a paranormal investigator. More than 450 monthly 90-pages long issues have appeared in the series, with Sclavi as the most recurrent script writer in the first decade of serialisation.

Dylan will seine Freundin Pat retten, die im Verdacht steht, Anschläge für die IRA auszuüben, und gerät durch eine verborgene Tür aus der Wirklichkeit in ein Land, in dem Ort und Zeit keine Bedeutung haben, eine Mischung aus Shangri-La, Jeff Vandermeers AREA X und dem Land der Morlocks von H.G. Wells.
In dieses vermeintliche Paradies haben sich Menschen geflüchtet, die den Scout bezahlen können und aus einer Welt aussteigen wollen, in der Gleichgültigkeit, Konsum und Machtstreben dominieren. Aber ein Paradies finden sie auch in dieser anderen Realität nicht vor.

Die Reihe steigert sich imm weiter, eigentlich hätte ich dieser Episode auch fünf Sterne geben können (aber die Bestwertung soll Ausnahme bleiben, und es muss ja auch noch Luft nach oben geben): Mystery vom Feinsten!
Dazu eine Prise Humor, für den Dylans Helfer Groucho zuständig ist:

"Ich wußte, dass irgend etwas nicht stimmt, wie damals ... denn am Anfang war das Nichts und Gott sprach: "Es werde Licht". Dann war da immer noch nichts. Aber jeder konnte es sehen."

Oduvek me je zanimalo da vidim koja epizoda Dylana Doga je bila prilika za američku publiku da se upozna sa Dylanom Dogom i sad sam pročitao Dark Horse izdanje iz 2002. u kom je zapravo izdata epizoda 84 koju je pisao Sclavi a crtao Brindisi.

Interesantno je da je prevod na engleski dosta neutralan, iako se epizoda dešava u Londonu, a neki od likova su Irci, a u zapletu učestvuje IRA. Međutim, dijalekta nema. Ipak, vicevi bazirani na igrama reči jesu postavljeni tako da funkcionišu na engleskom i deluju kao da jesu pisani na tom jeziku.

Sama priča je delimično reprezentativna za ono što Dylan Dog jeste, mada se i razlikuje od tipičnih nedeljnih izdanja jer ima izraženiju vizuelnu dimenziju i manje izražen pulp karakter. Tako da je verovatno i birana tako da donese što je moguće više stereotipni vajb "evropskog stripa" kom Dylan Dog tipično ne pripada.

U svakom slučaju, uprkos svesti o globalnom potencijalu Dylana Doga za razne vidove eksploatacije, ona se još uvek nije desila jer su prvi pokušaji bili neuspešni.
