Magical Mischief - Magic And Metaphysics Academy #1 by Laura Greenwood & L.A. Boruff is a fabulous new series which follows Lou and her experience at the academy - which is a big change for someone who was previously homeschooled.

I love the different types of clicks at the academy as well, with Witches, Vampires, Shifters forming - Sparkles, Shifts, Elms, Greenies, The Beckys, Alts, and Chefs. But you’ll have to read the story to find out what each is and how they fit into the story.

There’s definitely a Mean Girls vibe with the story, and I can’t wait to read more of this reverse harem series.

The hybrid daughter of a witch and vampire Lou has been shielded her entire life. Homeschooled until she was 18, her well-known zoomalogist parents are too busy to give her education the attention it needs, so she is being allowed to attend the prestigious Magic and Metaphysics Academy. Now she finds herself with two quirky dorm mates and shown attention by the most popular girls in the school, the Sparkles. Lou is powerful and advanced in many ways of magic but lacks basic skills that most were taught as young children. She also has no idea how to navigate the path of a teenager. Clothes and make-up have never been important to her and she didn't realize there was a social hierarchy, that joining the wrong club could make you an outcast and who knew there were dating rules! Plus, the boys here... School is much more complicated and stressful than she ever expected!

What a fantastic start to this new series. I love Lou. She's so real. She's smart, pretty, and confident, yet so lost at the same time. What teenage girl hasn't felt like this? It's such a roller coaster of a time. She likes her odd roomies, yet she likes the attention of the pretty popular girls too. For a girl basically starved of normal friendships, it would be hard to turn down the offer of being with the Sparkles, especially since two of the three are nice. The attention of three hot guys would make any girl pleased and Jayse, Francis, and Brooks seem great. They each offer something to appeal to Lou. I love the Mean Girls concept. Throw in the paranormal aspect and the fact that Lou, her roommate, and one of the Sparkles, are all stronger magically than the Queen Mean Girl and there is potential for quite a lot of drama. That's before we even get to the harem. Jealousy and magic will be quite explosive; we've already seen a glimpse of what's to come. I can't wait!

This is a cute read and I think teens and young adults would love it. Its about a 2 hour read. We have Lou who has been homeschooled her whole life. Now that she is eighteen her parents have sent her to the Academy to learn more. She has great roommates, but there are other girls there that are popular. Of Course we have the cute popular guys too. Can Lou fit in? Who will she choose to be friends with her roommates or the popular girls? What about those three cute guys can she be with one of them?

Lou has started at a new school to further her education after being homeschooled her whole life. Now she is navigating threw mean girls learning how to master her witch magic flirting with boys and trying to keep her Vampire half secret oh and get revenge on the leader of the sparkles.

Fun read i think Lou is very sweet but naive about how mean some people can be. There is some light romance
and the start of a revenge plot. And a cliffhanger.

The storyline is fantastic. I just wish Lou had a bit more of a backbone and stood up to people instead of falling into line. Otherwise, was very well written and has fantastic characters. The personalities can be felt throughout the story. It is part of a series so ends in a cliffhanger. But, I can’t wait to read the next in the series. It is definitely worth reading and doesn’t disappoint.

There is a big difference between being home-schooled and going to the Academy, and Lou is getting a crash course on the first day.

Tallulah aka “Lou” thought her parents had rules, but their rules are nothing compared to the rules of hierarchy at the Academy. On her first day, she has to remember who she can talk to and who she cannot - no crossing of the breeds. The first problem with that is that she is hiding a secret about which breed she is.

The second problem is that she comes immediately to the attention of the biggest frenemy that everyone has at the school: Kristi and her Sparkles. Her new roommate wants her to befriend them to enact a plan of revenge, but Lou just wants to remain under the radar.

Then there is the problem of the attraction she feels towards Kristi’s ex-boyfriend...and his two best friends.

Laura Greenwood and L.A. Boruff are back with a new reverse harem series “Magic and Metaphysics Academy” and their first book Magical Mischief (Drowlgon Press, B07XY4ZF5J, 2019). For those who read the “Valentine Pride” series, this takes place several years after as Hannah is now only a few years away from attending the Academy herself. For those who have not read the series, no worries this series does not really connect to it other than mentioning the family from the other series.

Lou is advanced in her magical training in some areas except in how to take care of herself. Whereas most of the students at the Academy have been practicing a self-serving magic for a number of years which is something Lou has no experience with. I will say that this book reminded me a great deal of the movie Mean Girls (Dir. Mark Waters, 2004).

The relationship between Lou and her roommates and the Sparkles could have been taken right from the movie it is that familiar to me. The only thing that separates it for me is Lou’s relationship with the guys, but even in that area she “dumbs” herself down in knowledge in a class where she has advanced knowledge to get the attention of a guy. Cady did the same thing in math class in Mean Girls.

I still liked the book, I just drew a lot of comparisons between the book and the movie.

This book has every high school movie cliche and then some. College age kids, but this magical academy is described as an extended highschool as magical beings apparently have an extended adolescence. What saves this book from being Just Another Academy Story(TM) is the well thought out magic system and excellent well paced writing. Despite all the tropes, it actually is an enjoyable read. I finished it in one sitting.

This is book 1 in a trilogy and as such spends a lot of time building the world and characters. There is a suspenseful conflict brewing and hints as to deeper issues coming later in the story. This book ends with a big reveal to set up book 2. This book stays clean as Lou gets to know her guys, but the heat will ratchet up in this series.

Poor car on copy of Mean Girls with magic

It's almost word for word copied from the movie Mean Girls, but without the clever humor, memorable characters, or witty narration. Plus it tries to add weird magical politics on top that muddies the story and confuses things. Written very choppy with some conversations just ending abruptly or switching topics.

And it's way too short. Clearly the movie plot has been split into three books so nothing is resolved by the end. It ended only 75% of the way through the file and the rest was filled with the author's list of other books repeated four times.

A homeschool hybrid witch/vampire comes to a paranormal college with a lack of socialization skills.

Her new roommates are nice, but not in the cliques, and when the clique queen picks her to join their little group, her roommates push her to go along with it. It doesn't take long for her to see the ugly and cruel side of the popular girl, even though the others in the triad are nice.

I’m not sure exactly where this journey is going to take us, but I’m all in to experience it. Though, with the distinct “Mean Girls” vibe, I probably should have some ideas. I can’t help but feel for Lou, walking into this environment she knows next to nothing about. I’m glad to see she’s got some people who truly seem to have her best interests at heart, but I’m sure something’s going to happen to change that. I can’t wait to see how this will unfold.

Mean girls meets harry potter

The beginning of this book was straight out of the movie Mean Girls and had harry potter elements throughout. The world building was subpar and there wasn't much character development. This was a DNF for me, I just couldn't handle any more of it. I also don't feel the need to read anything else by either of these authours.

It's book 1 of 3 which means that the harem is very loose at this stage - after all, she's only been at the school for 5 days.

The cliques are interesting - the bitchy group is clear but the roommates have their own behaviours to monitor.

Short but good

Loved this book!

Now I want to see if the bad witch gets hers! She’s truly awful. I loved all the magical characters. I can’t believe that a smart home schooled girl would get roped into being with the mean girl.

This is literally Mean Girls with paranormal species. Mean popular girls, a new girl who was homeschooled in Africa with a nerdy subject she loves who wants to join the club only to find it's social suicide, best friends who are under the social radar, formerly friends with the main mean girl. Shopping trips, forbidden to wear certain things on certain days. Flirtations with the mean Queens ex. A book that starts rumors. Showing up looking hideous to a party. It is actually well written but it's so annoying that it's a blatant rip from the movie. Disappointing. Also right when she decides to get her revenge, end of book 1.

I loved the plot and characters but the book was short. I felt as if I read a prequel instead of the first book of a series. But it was a lot of fun and was full of drama like any full-size book would be. I feel like I need to read book 2 just to see what happens next. I need checkout more of these fantastic authors work! They rock!

She has always been home schooled so she will have a lot of adjusting to do when she goes to the academy. She will have roommates, new teachers, new people to get to know. Even boys wanting to date her. How is she going to get on? Will she enjoy it? Will she get use to it? See how she gets on

Lou has been homeschooled until she reached 18. The daughter of a witch and vampire, she was very powerful. But kept from interactions with others as she grew up, going to the Magic and Metaphysics Academy was a whole new experience and she had no idea what to expect. Regardless, she was glad that she was able to finally convince her parents to let her attend.

The Headmaster went over the rules, asked what she was interested in – plants – and recommended she join the “Greenies” club. Then he had her new dorm mates, Estelle Ford and Tyler Michaels, brought in to meet her and show her around. They told her about all the groups and cliques and warned her about the Greenies, which Tyler referred to as the social-suicide club who loves doing nature magic, always smelled faintly of dirt, and if you ever touch them, you would feel like you've been playing in potting soil. Then Tyler particularly warned her about avoiding the vampires and witches who were most volatile! Apparently joining the wrong club could make you a social outcast for the next 3 years! Uh, she did not appear to be off to a good start with her quirky dorm mates!

At her first class, Estelle points out the 3 most popular girls in the school, the Sparkles, led by Kristi. The 3 gorgeous guys following them into the class were The Shifts, the most athletic and now including vampires. One of them was almost 7 foot tall and no one could figure what kind of shifter he was. When Zeke approached Lou and offered to show her hookup spots and other smarmy creepy things, it was Kristi who approached and sent him away, much to Estelle’s dismay! It was beginning to look like school is much more complicated and stressful than she ever expected, and she still lacked the skills to interact smoothly with others! How long would she last in this environment?

This was a fun story as the reader is introduced to a ton of characters who will become part of Lou’s new world. Grab your copy and see how she interacts with the various groups as she tries to find the best fit for herself among all of the different types of students. She has already attracted the Sparkles and 3 sexy guys! What’s next for her?

Our heroine is enrolled in the magical academy and has her first introduction to cliques. Will she be able to handle her academic studies and school politics at the same time?

This is a young adult reverse harem paranormal fantasy story. Wow, that makes for a mouthful. If you have read any of the author's previous works, then this one is very similar in tone and style. The story is well written and easy to read. The world has a lot of depth to it and you almost feel overwhelmed in this first story as you try to take it all in. There is also a diverse cast of well developed characters that add another element to absorb. There is a plot, but it takes a backseat to all the worldbuilding and character introductions in this story. There is enough there to intrigue the reader at this point and expect to get into it in more depth with the next story. Overall, an enjoyable story and I am looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

Recommended.

Lou has been looking forward to go to Academy since she has been home schooled by her parents. She is wants the independence and the learning expirence that school will offer her. She meets with the headmaster of the school, he brings her roommates to school her the school. She is nervous to be meeting new people all of a sudden. They are respectful of each other, one of her room mates are more that what she says. They give her an idea of the groups at school.
They take her to her first class, that is when she sees the three guys, they draw her attention immediately. A group of girls grabs her attentions as well.
The group of girls take her in, they seem ok, not like her room mates make them seem.
She hangs out with the girls, the girl Kristi seems bent on changing her looks, she isn't to keen. The girl Kristi is not happy unless she seems to bring the others down. She enjoys the company of the other girls.
The guys seem to have their attention on her, Francis is in her class and her she works side by side with him. Brooks helps her with her magic, Jayse helped her find her way the first day. Seem really nice to her.
She is attracted to each of them, Kristi is not happy as Francis seems drawn to her.
Lou will start to see Kristi for what she is, but will she be able to do anything about it. What will happen with the guys.

This is a good first book in series, looking to see more in book 2
