ALMOST HUMAN ~ The First TrilogyIn this paranormal fantasy, chapters alternate perspective between a vampire and a young woman, as they join an ensemble cast of characters to navigate difficulties of addiction and desire; perils of zombies and vampires; and struggles with abuse, morality and... college.Volume 2: Lost ReflectionsFelicity has helped her friends to escape the venomous vixen Sindy, but cannot divine the motives of Cain, the vampire who captured first her gratitude, and then her heart. She finds the historical account of Cain’s past enthralling and frightening. Now she must determine whether the addictive venom in Cain’s kiss is clouding her judgment, and if his thirst for her blood is a driving force too strong for their love to conquer. It’s difficult to contemplate such questions while under the attack of a vengeful vampire and his zombie slaves. Felicity’s heart has already been lost to Cain; will she lose her life as well? *ALMOST HUMAN is a series of successive trilogies, not stand-alone books. Each trilogy is self-contained enough to be read alone as a 3 book set, but the story unfolds chronologically, and the characters do continue from one trilogy to the next. Main storyline closure is in each 3rd book, but there are also story-ties leading from one trilogy to the next in the series.

Lost Reflections is the second book in the Almost Human Series, the first trilogy. Due to Felicity and Cain's relationship becoming ever closer, Ben keeps getting nastier and nastier about it. Cain decides that he should tell her about his very long past, and for two nights he explains in detail about his former life when he was a human and then after he turned into a vampire. It is enough to give Felicity quite a shock and she has to really digest what he has done and wonder to herself whether people really change or not. After all, Cain is over 300 years old. And then there is the addictive quality of the venom in his kiss and bite. Felicity no doubt likes it, and that is what it's supposed to do. But Cain doesn't really wanting the venom clouding their relationship. But in his mind, he can already see where things were headed because he has been there before. Felicity is his beloved, but he can't seem to let her go. And she doesn't want to. But certain events begin to change things. Vampires get angry and vengeful while others change for the better. We start seeing some subtle changes in the vampire Sindy that are for the better. But this sparks issues of its own.

“Lost Reflections” is book two in the “Almost Human” series by Melanie Nowak, and it is a direct continuation from the first book, “Fatal Infatuation.” This trilogy is not made to be read independently, and this book picks up just after the first one leaves off.

In this book, the relations that started to develop in the first volume evolve, and we learn more about the main characters. Both they and their lives are changing, and I find that appealing in the series; it is the way life works. Everyone at times drift away from people that used to be close, and others take their place. Mirroring this in one’s character is tricky, and it makes them believable and easy to relate to.

I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, and I liked this one even better. It’s bolder, packed with even more adventure, and contains few slow moments. If you are looking for a love story involving a likeable heroine and a charming and handsome vampire, chances are you’ll appreciate the “Almost Human” series. I would recommend starting with book 1, though. Jumping into the story in the middle might be confusing.

Lost Reflections picks up right where Fatal Infatuation left off. Ben is trying to deal with what Sindy has done to him. Felicity and Alyson try to help Ben deal with the aftermath of Sindy's bite. I liked this book because I got to learn more about Cain's past. It was interesting to find out what his life was like before he became a vampire and the circumstances that led to his becoming a creature of the night. There is so much information he has to share with Felicity, good and bad. Melanie Nowak also gives us a glimpse into Sindy's past as well. Cain and Felicity's relationship gets tested a lot in this book. Several elements conspire against them, such as Cain's inner beast and the vampire vixen, Sindy. In the first book, I didn't really like Sindy very much but she has grown on me quite a bit. Sindy get's into some action packed trouble in this book. Some of that trouble includes zombies. I am happy to report that these zombies did not give me nightmares. I am really enjoying this series. I can't wait to see where Melanie Nowak takes it.

Lost Reflections (Volume II) picks up right at the point that Fatal Infatuation (Volume I) ends. The relationship between Felicity and Cain continues and gets a little hotter. As Cain begins to feel more comfortable with Felicity, he opens up about his past, no matter how unflattering it is. Ben and Alyson still struggle with the their friend Mattie having been turned into a vampire, but each in their own way. Sindy continues with her games, but does show a softer side to Cain.

I really enjoyed Lost Reflections. I found Cain's history facinating. I love the details Nowak went into here. Felicity is coming into her own in this volume and I like the person she is becoming. Sindy is also growing as a character and I have to say that I do not dislike her as much in this volume. It was nice to see Felicity interact with her family a little. Her good girl character is much more believable with her family in the picture. I feel like I know the characters and am looking forward to reading the next volume.

Lost Reflections is the second book in the first Almost Human trilogy by Melanie Nowak. Yes, it's a vampire/human romance, but don't be expecting a Twilight clone. These characters are more grown-up and the vampires can truly be scary. Having read the first book in this trilogy, I was looking forward to reading this book. I was not disappointed. If anything, this series is getting even better as it goes along. Lost Reflections continues the love story between Felicity and Cain and their relationships with Felicity's human friends (I love Ally and Ben!). Even better - we get Cain's back story! This reads almost like a book within a book, and Cain's story is just so fascinating. I was spellbound!

This book is well-written, and the characters are wonderful. I really find myself missing them when I move on to another book. I highly recommend it.

Lost Reflections is the second story in the first Almost Human trilogy. It takes up, literally, where Fatal Infatuation left off. In this story we learn more of Cain's past, see more of Sindy and learn a little of her past, Cain and Felicity's relationship evolves, we catch up with Ben and Allyson. In this book we learn that Cain may not be all that we think he is (or possibly more than we think he is according to how you look at it) and Felicity matures a bit more. The characters are fleshed out more and we get a little more involved with the rest of them then in Fatal Infatuation. You will find yourself getting invested in these characters, the dialogue between them is well written and you feel like you are actually in the story and not just observing it.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest in the series.

Second in a series.

It wouldn't make any sense at all if you hadn't read the first in the series, and even then that would be iffy.

I realize that I should be nicer, because Ms. Nowak has managed to get these books published, and I have never published any books.

But she needs a copy editor. She needs to cut out 3/4 of the adjectives. She needs to cut. to. the. chase.

I don't even care how this series ends. She's used entirely too many words to not get to the point. This is pretty much Twilight with more sex *and* more teenage angst, which is not a happy combination.

If someone else reads the third one, let me know how it goes.

This is a great sequel! We continue to follow Felicity, Cain, Ben, Allie, and Sindy. Most of this book is Cain's telling of his personal history. We also get to see a "relationship" between Cain and Sindy. Cain and Felicity's relationship gets hot and heavy as well. Can Sindy control her brood? Doesn't look like it!

This second installment in the series is just as good as the first.
It was nice to pick up where we left off and the characters were still interesting. Cain is a character that most people would really like. What girl doesn't like a good-bad boy? He is just the right amount of that element, in a paranormal world.

I am loving this trilogy. In this book, we hear Cain's back story which sheds light on his character. People will either love him or hate him. I love him! And the chemistry between him and Felicity is amazing! I find myself turning the page and wanting more... I can't wait to see what happens next! Next up is part 3 of the trilogy!

Stepping into the world of vampires feels like entering a dark and seductive realm where danger and desire coalesce, pulling you deeper into the shadows with each turn of the page. Lost Reflections, the second volume of Melanie Nowak’s Almost Human series, masterfully captures this allure. Felicity’s entanglement with Cain, the enigmatic vampire haunted by a shadowy past, grows ever more complicated. Their connection becomes a dance of trust and suspicion, where Felicity must grapple with the question: Are her feelings genuine, or are they the product of Cain’s irresistible supernatural influence? As she unravels pieces of Cain’s history, new dangers emerge, including a vengeful vampire, Sindy, and her sinister, zombie-like followers.

Having eagerly awaited this second installment after reading volume one, I found Nowak’s storytelling just as mesmerizing. Her use of imagery stands out, painting a world that is haunting yet beautiful and rich with sensory detail. Cain’s gaze feels almost tangible, Felicity’s surroundings pulse with unspoken threats, and the shadows seem to hum with anticipation. Nowak strikes a perfect balance between the eerie supernatural elements and scenes brimming with raw emotion, making the romance feel both intense and genuine.

Nowak also excels in her portrayal of character dynamics. The dialogue between Felicity and Cain crackles with tension and allure. Each conversation peels back layers of desire, curiosity, and doubt, showcasing Felicity’s inner struggle to separate her authentic emotions from the influence of Cain’s vampiric powers. Cain’s carefully chosen words keep both Felicity and the reader guessing, intensifying the suspense and deepening the intrigue. These exchanges are written with precision, emphasizing the power dynamics and the seductive pull that makes vampire romances so compelling. The menacing presence of Sindy and her followers adds a chilling backdrop to the romance, amplifying the stakes.

Lost Reflections is a spellbinding read that is filled with vivid imagery, emotional depth, and unforgettable characters. Nowak weaves horror and passion seamlessly, ensuring that readers remain engrossed from start to finish. It’s an enchanting addition to the series, and I can’t wait to dive into what comes next.

Reviewing on behalf of Amo's Book Corner.

Wow! What an amazing story yet again! Lost Reflections follows on directly from Fatal Infatuation. Felicity continues to explore her feelings for Cain. Cain becomes closer to Felicity and tells her the details of his past and all the things that he's done that he's ashamed of. He knows it's a risky thing to do, but he wants Felicity to make a well-informed decision as to whether she wants to be with him. What will Felicity choose to do? Also Cain becomes confused; he loves Felicity dearly but he begins to realise that maybe he is no good for her. Can he convince her that she is better off without him?

In the midst of all this, Cain becomes dangerously more involved with Sindy and his feelings for her are also confused. Sindy has had so much of a troubled and tormented past and we get to see more of an insight to her life in this second book. Cain is well aware of her past and is therefore also concerned about her being hurt yet again. Sindy however, still seems hellbent on continuing to torment Ben, as much as Ben hates her. Ben is infuriated with Felicity because of her closeness to Cain; he just doesn't understand what she sees in the dead guy. Sindy begins to realise that she is losing control of the vampires she has sired. What will happen now? Will she be able to bring them back under control before all havoc is unleashed?

Yet again such another brilliantly written book that I absolutely love. The story really draws you in and makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next. Of course it ends on a cliffhanger, so I really can't wait to read the next book to find out where things will conclude. I love this series so much and Melanie Nowak is fast becoming one of my favourite authors.

4.5/5

If you enjoyed Fatal Infatuation, you're in for another exciting ride with Lost Reflections, the second book in The Almost Human Trilogy. Melanie Nowak delivered a fantastic mix of romance, danger, and supernatural intrigue that kept me hooked from start to finish.

This time around, Felicity is grappling with her feelings for Cain, the mysterious and brooding vampire who’s managed to capture both her heart and her trust. But, of course, things are never that simple! Felicity is starting to wonder whether Cain’s vampire venom is clouding her judgment, and it doesn’t help that she’s also caught up in a deadly game involving vengeful vampires and zombie minions. Talk about complicated! One thing’s for sure: her heart may be lost to Cain, but the bigger question is, will she lose her life too?

The best part of this book is definitely the deeper dive into Cain’s backstory. His past is both fascinating and dark, and we get a much clearer picture of why he is the way he is. It’s both enthralling and, at times, a little unsettling. And Felicity’s struggle to figure out whether their connection is real or just a result of his vampire nature adds an emotional layer that keeps the reader invested in their relationship.

There’s a lot more action in this one compared to the first book, and the pacing really picks up. There was vengeful vampires, zombies, and plenty of suspense to keep me on my toes. The romance is still at the heart of the story, but the stakes feel higher now, and Felicity is forced to make some tough decisions about what she really wants.

Overall, Lost Reflections is a great continuation of the series. The characters are even more developed, the action ramps up, and the romance has a darker, more complex edge to it. If you're into vampire stories with a good mix of danger, drama, and romance, you're definitely going to enjoy this one. Can't wait to see how things unfold in the final book!

A woman’s virtue can ultimately be the downfall of a man’s inner strength.

“Lost Reflections” picks up where “Fatal Attraction” leaves off. “Lost Reflections” continues following a sheltered college student as she navigates college classes, friendships, work, and her blossoming relationship with a vampire. There were two main characters and three supporting characters, with a few constant extras; each was written with such detailed intimacy that a reader couldn’t help but to feel familiar with the characters. My favorite character continues to be Ben, a supporting character, because his love for his friends outweighs his disgust at their behavior. This time around, I feel like I can relate to Sindy, a supporting character, because she is willing to risk herself just to please the one being that seems to stand her the least.

There wasn’t anything that I would change about this book.

Overall, I found this book to be a mentally intense read, giving the feel of a suspense filled drama; much like the first book.

The second book throws us back into the aftermath of the first book. We get a deeper look into the past of the villain, Sindy, and our sweet lover, Cain. And, wait for it, we get zombies. That's right, you heard me right...ZOMBIES!

The second "chapter" is more developed than the first and overall it flows much better than the first. Cain and Felicity's relationship gets steamier, but it turns out that he may have feelings for Sindy as well. I remember when I read this parts and I was like, "Um, excuse me? No, no, just NO!" I don't care if she is like a vampire version of Faith from Buffy and Cain feels for her. No! No excuse!

The repetitiveness continued, however, and it made it hard for me to continue at times. I pressed through because I needed to know what happened in the final book. And oh, am I ready for it!

What can I say? This book picked up where it left off from Cain and Felicity. This book has been better than the first book.

I wondered what this book would be like compared to the first one and I thought that the description of everything was written out well.

The adventure is again to be continued and I can't wait to see what else is to happen.

As I stated in my first review of this trilogy, both books took way too long begin. The same story was repeated a couple times and I felt as though the dialogue was being dragged to make more pages in the book. I fell in love with the characters and I think that's why i finished the book. But towards the end of the book it got very interesting and exciting and I felt as if I could not put the book down. Overall its a good story. However, I think it could make do without so much detailed information about any one character all at the same time. Hopefully, the third book starts off a little earlier.

This second book you learn the history of the character named Cain. How he lived before, during and after he becomes a vampire. The love between Felicity and Cain grow more intense and builds into a relationship. Some interesting things happen between Cain and Sindy and in the end Sindy's posse turn against her and takes the help of her enemies to kill them. This book was mainly about Cain and Felicity until almost the end when all the other characters came back into the story.

Please note this is my own personal opinion, however I felt that this book focused too much on Cain's past...I felt that it could have been a book on it's own. Don't get me wrong, I realise that it was necessary to put this in, however it was really quite detailed and for me, detracted from the main story a little too much.

Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can't wait to get stuck into the third one.
