ONE LAST BREATH is book two in the new FBI mystery series by debut author Sarah Sutton.

Now, one year later, after a storm rips through the area, her body is found––strangled and buried deep under the brush of a local beach. But, as the cops uncover her body, another is found––a more recent victim––and they quickly realize it’s the work of a serial killer.

FBI Agent Tara Mills, still recovering from her last case, is pulled into her second. With no leads, the FBI needs Tara’s brilliant mind to crack it. But as she delves into the depths of the popular vacation beach town, she soon realizes that no one can be trusted––and that this killer may be far more brilliant than her.

I received a digital copy for free from Book Sirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second book in the Tara Mills Mystery Series. I enjoyed the first book which describes Tara Mills, a newbie FBI agent, right out of Quantico matches up with veteran Agent Warren. They are an unlikely pair who take some time adjusting to being partners. This book could pretty much stand alone without feeling like you missed something. The books both end with questions that carry over into the next book.

Tara takes time off to recover after the last case of the Appalachian Trail Killer where she went rogue and nearly got herself killed. She still carries the trauma of her father killing her mother when she was 6 years old. After her father went to prison in New York she lived with her grandmother until she died of cancer. Tara worked for the NYPD before eventually training for the FBI.

All these years later and Tara still holds some unresolved questions from the night her mother was killed. She senses that there may have been another person aside from her father that night. This storyline plays in the backdrop of the murder investigation in this novel.

A body of a teen girl is found buried in the sand at the beach which spreads light on a cold case from last year. A teen girl went missing a year ago and no body was ever found. This discovery has them combing the beach where they discover the body of the missing girl. Unfortunately, it seems to be the work of a serial killer and they need to find him before he kills again.

The frustrating part of the story is how Tara gets so overwhelmed and consumed by the case that it affects her ability to sleep or interact with her live in boyfriend, John. In this case, she does at least have some restraint before going rogue and notifies her partner and local police. She is the newbie and certainly shouldn’t be chasing down leads alone with a potentially dangerous suspect. She knows she has backup coming but pursues her suspicion and confronts a possible serial murder alone.

Maybe I watch too many FBI shows but it seems that Tara might have missed some tactical training at Quantico. She is not confronting a suspect who is armed or has the physical training one would think she had. She always seems to get injured or thrown off guard by the suspect. Of course, the story ends with the case being solved but to what cost.

I enjoy the storyline and look forward to books 3 and 4 coming down the line.

One Last Breath by Sarah Sutton
This is the 2nd book in the Tara Mills series and can be read as a stand alone. Girls are being murdered and buried on a beach by a serial killer can Tara and Warren her partner find out who the killer is before more young girls are murdered all while Tara is trying to figure out who exactly murdered her mother was it her father or someone else? Can't wait to read more from this author and this series! I received an ARC and leave my opinion freely.

I received this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with Tara having John's parents over for dinner and having them stay the night due to a major storm happening. The next morning, Tara receives a call from Warren advising her of a case regarding a body that has just been found, and she needs to get there soon. The body was discovered buried in a sand dune by a dog digging. After this body was discovered, another one was also found, but this find was only of bones. The 1st body was of a girl that had gone missing a week earlier, and the 2nd body matched a missing girl from a year earlier. Information related to evidence at the scene was lacking.

Following what little information they had provided them with a lead of a potential suspect. Each time they thought they had the killer, an event ruled each of them out. The last subject that they had fit all of the boxes, but Tara felt something was off. She decided that she would follow up at the coffee shop where the victim that was discovered after being missing had worked. While talking to the manager T ara received an unexpected lead. With that information, she decided to follow up her gut insttinct, only this time she let Warren know as well as the sheriff. When she arrived at the individual's home, her backup hadn't showed up yet, but she went inside anyway.

To discover what unexpected information Tara received, who the person was that she last went to see and how in the end this all played out, you need to read this book. In addition, Tara's discovery of her father's visitor, will play a role in the next book.

One year ago one teenage girl went missing. Everyone was surprised because no one expects a crime in a small beach town. Now, one year later, a body is found on the beach. But before the cops find out what's going on and who the victim is, they discover another body buried on the beach. You don't have to be a genious to realize it's a serial killer. They need the FBI to catch this killer and not let him get more victims.

Tara, FBI Agent, is pulled into this case. She tries to solve the horrific case and at the same time dealing with her past that doesn't give her peace. Soon she realizes that the killer might be smarter than her, she might not catch him...

I loveee this book! It's so good. It has dead bodies, victims, serial killer, FBI agents and one deadly race. Will they catch the murderer? Will they be able to recognize him, because all of a sudden he seems to be hiding in every person around... I love how this book ended, and how it was tense until the end. Tara is such a good character. We can see that she loves her job and she is trying her best, but at the same time battling the demons from her past. The style is easy, from the very start instantly pulls you into the story and you don't have any choice but to relax and let the author led you through the book.

This is such a good thriller! I enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it.

4 stelle e mezza

The second book in the Tara Mills series, One Last Breath could be read as a stand alone book. Girls are being murdered and its up to Tara and her partner Warren to solve who is doing it. As this is going on she is also dealing with issues from her past that she is searching for answers for. Overall I found this to be an enjoyable read, very well written. The pace of the book was good also, things were happening at a decent pace where the book didn't seem to drag like some books do. I would recommend this book to others. I received a ARC from BookSirens, and am under no obligation to leave a favorable review all opinions expressed here are my own.

First let me say this is the second in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. This book was amazing, it gave me exactly what I was looking for, that edge of the seat suspense. I love the it swapped between views especially when it was the serial killer about to get one of the girls it made me yell at my phone! Can't wait to read more from thus author! So, this is the second book in the Tara Mills Mystery series, and just as I was not blown away by the first book, neither was I blown away by this book, for many of the same reasons ... and I found it somewhat formulaic, which irritated me actually. I don't like giving low reviews, but sometimes it is warranted.

I felt rather frustrated about the happenings in the book at times. The dynamic between Agent Tara and Agent Warren, was confusing with her taking the lead the majority of the time, even though she is a rookie (1 month has passed from the first book and she had just joined the FBI) and he a seasoned FBI agent.

The writing style was somewhat 'meh' and at times it seemed quite silly to me. Perhaps I read too much and my expectations are too high. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it must be to write and keep the reader engaged, and this being the author's second book, I can understand some of the things in this book that I perceived negatively.

There was however a small difference in writing style between her first book and this book, but still not engaging enough ... and some of the scenes in the book were actually cringe worthy. The author also seems to love the word screamed, even when it is not really the correct word for the setting ...

Overall the plot itself was actually quite good, however the execution thereof caused it to fall a bit flat in my opinion.

I'd like to see how the story plays out, so am definitely interested in reading more from this author as I would like to see how she grows as an author, as I do believe that experience will definitely make her more engaging and her writing will be less juvenile and 'meh'. Perhaps she just needs a better editor or proof reader.

The second book in the FBI agent Tara Mills series and very enjoyable.

Shortly after the conclusion of her first major case, the trail serial killer, she and her partner, Warren, are assigned a new case involving the remains of a body found buried on a beach after a major storm. The remains are found in the same region where another young woman has been reported missing. When her body is then found and the indications all point to an identical form of murder, they fear they have another serial killer, this time in a small coastal town.

As Tara works this case, she is still tormented by the dreams she had about the night of her mothers murder by her father. She is increasingly convinced the dreams are in fact memories pushing to the front of consciousness.

With two apparent mysteries confronting her, she knows she must put her focus on the cases of the young women. The leads are few, though, and the tension of finding the killer before he strikes again becomes intense for her and Warren.

Sutton weaves a good tale and I admit my interest was on a different man in peripherally in the story.

Two hikers go missing along the Appalachian Trail, leaving only a bloodstained forest behind them, and when another hiker collapses on someone’s porch in New Hampshire, murdered by crossbow, the local police realize they have a serial killer on their hands––and need to call in the FBI.

FBI Agent Tara Mills is young, brilliant and new to the force. With a promising career in front of her, she faces the ultimate test when she is assigned the case. It soon proves to be more challenging than she ever could have imagined––an impossible riddle that leaves even her seasoned partner stumped.

Meanwhile, something about the case stirs a darkness within her––a tortured past that even her long-term boyfriend doesn’t fully understand. As nightmares consume her, she only hopes that her past will not come back to ruin her once again.

As more hikers go missing, and with her job on the line, Tara finds herself on a race against time as she combs through the forest’s trails. Peeling back each layer, she soon realizes that she is up against a true diabolical mastermind. And just when she thinks she has it all figured out, her instincts lead her to the most shocking truth of all.

News reporter - his sister went missing. He recreates the disappearance over and over whilst gaining notoriety as a reporter. Who would think that in a small town the fresh smiling reporter would be the murderer.

Another 2.5 ⭐️ rating from me. Two books in a row and the author manages to continue to let her character make THE STUPIDEST decisions and put herself in danger. Why on earth her partner doesn’t demand she get more training is ludicrous. I don’t know if I can continue on with this series.

Instead of giving your readers a bad ass, female FBI agent, you give us Tara Mills. Her character is akin to Bella in Twilight, always making dumb choices that put her in danger, relying on a man to save her, and misjudging the killer.

I think I’ll pay the possible killer a visit in his home, not wait for the promised back up because they are conveniently a little late. Let the suspected killer get close enough to harm her without restraining him, and then see what the noise is. A well trained FBI agent wouldn’t be as simple minded as Tara is. 🤦🏼‍♀️. I yelled dumb bitch way too many times throughout these first 2 books.

Then, we have the entire FBI office applaud Tara, and Warren…again, awww.

I have to go in without backup, the victim might still be alive. Oh, he’s so charming, maybe I’m wrong about him. Let’s go see what that noise is together as I make myself a vulnerable target risking mine, and the possibly alive victims life in the process…GTFOOH with that nonsense.

One Last Breath (Tara Mills Mystery #2) by Sarah Sutton

FBI Agent Tara Mills is on another case, as victims are found on a popular beach town. Along with her partner Warren, they are in a race against the clock to catch a killer before more lives are lost.

Tara is also trying to make sense of her past, overcome her nightmares and learn more of what happened to her Mother. Slowly she is finding out more, seems her memories may not be exactly how she thought they were.

She must find a balance between personal life and her career, a feat she is determined to accomplish. Determination is the key to her success in both aspects in her life.

The story moves at a fast pace, with a likable complex lead. Tara is easy to like, I want to see her happy and successful. There is a good mix of suspense, thrills and compelling moments.

Overall I found One Last Breath very enjoyable. I look forward to reading more in this series.

Genre - F.B.I. murder mystery
Location - Washington, D.C. - Dewey Beach a small beach resort town approx. 2 hours away from
the city.

This book opens with the discovery of the bodies of two teenaged girls. They were uncovered on a beach after a hurricane. One had gone missing a year ago, the other just over a week. Both girls had been strangled. When more girls disappear, it becomes a race against the clock to find the killer.
It is difficult, for he is very clever and never leaves behind any clues.
The working partnership between Tara and Warren solidifies. They have a great deal of respect and trust in each other. We also learn more of Warren's past history.
Meanwhile, Tara is learning more about the death of her mother which occured when she was just 6 years old. She visits her father who is in prison for killing her mother, for the first time. She gets more questions than answers but she is determined to get to to the truth.
I guess I'll have to wait for the answers too, because the next in the series doesn't come out until next year!

This is the 2nd in the series about FBI Agent Tara Mills. Tara is still working with her partner, Frank Warren and this time they are pulled onto a case where they have found the body of a teenage girl buried in the sand, on the beach area. While investigating more, they find another body in the same area, but this body was of a teenager that had been missing over a year.

Tara is also having dreams and nightmares about her father's murder of her mother. She is not convinced that her father is really guilty, even though her memory has him there at the scene and at age 6, Tara was there. She now remembers that someone else in the room. Could her father be innocent. When she goes to see him in prison for the first time in years, she mentions that she thinks someone else was there. He immediately tells Tara not to come back anymore because he will not see her or talk to her.

So between working the murder case of the teenage girls, whether her father is innocent or guilty, Tara is really pushing herself to the edge and in doing so, she might lose the man she loves.

Tara Mills is an FBI agent. When still recovering from her last case, she is dragged into a case where a young girl had been missing and found dead. This new case turns out to be caused by a serial killer. While in the midst of trying to solve the cases, Tara had visited her father in prison and is still mystified by whether or not someone else was in the room when her mother died. Meanwhile, her boyfriend has been acting strangely. To find out who did it and why the boyfriend is acting strange, buy and read the book.
I started reading Ms. Sutton's books because she is related to Margaret Sutton who wrote the Judy Bolton books which are still one of my favorite series. I enjoyed reading this story. The descriptions of the locations and the characters are very good. The basic story is concluded, though Tara's personal mystery is not. A third book is planned to be released in a year. I hope to be able to find out what happens next.

One Last Breath is Book 2 in A Tara Mills Mystery. Sarah Sutton has written an intense thriller and it was exciting. The story opens with the killer about to bury his second victim. The imagery Sarah Sutton created was cold blooded and left me reading as fast as possible to see what happened next! There are two main themes running through this thriller. First is the murder of teenage girls. FBI agents Tara Mills and her partner, Warren, are working with Sheriff Department. I felt the conclusion was perfect and I was surprised at who the murder was and why he killed the girls. The second theme has Tara remembering that there was someone else in the room when her father killed her mother. Who was also in the room us leading perfectly into the next book. I can’t wait to read book 3!! One Last Breath took my breath away. I received an arc for free in exchange for my honest voluntary review.

One Last Breath is the second outing for Tara Mills, new FBI agent. This can be read without having read the first book, One Last Step.

Tara and her partner, Warren, are brought into a case when the body of a girl who went missing a year ago surfaces after a storm. Not long after, another body is found and Tara knows they are looking for a serial killer.

Tara has some baggage, she is still trying to figure out what really happened when her mother was killed. She is learning that the people of the town where the killings are taking place are not being totally honest with her. The book moves along at a good pace. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I feel a bit ambivalent about this book. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. There were a sprinkling of grammatical errors that really bugged me (for example, "Her and Warren wanted to...") I think this book could have done with a bit more editing because the text was repetitive in many parts; successive paragraphs basically saying the exact same thing that the one before did. I did like how Sutton got into how life as an FBI agent can be disruptive to your personal life. I also like the background story about Tara's father and trying to find more information about her mother's death. I find the boyfriend a bit annoying and whiny and I found myself rolling my eyes during most scenes that included him.

I enjoyed One Last Breath. A serial killer is killing young women and burying them on beaches. FBI agent Tara Mills and her partner are investigating and desperately trying to prevent another girl from being the next victim. It was suspenseful and well written. There was a secondary story happening in Tara's personal life that was not concluded and will be in the next book in the series. What I really enjoyed was that this book could be read on its own, not having to have read book one and the fact that the case was concluded in this novel. So many books leave the reader hanging, very unsatisfied. Sutton didn’t do this. She wrapped up the plot and left the reader with a taste to want to read book 3.

Loved this one just as much as the first one and can't wait to read the next book in the series!
The mystery shrouding her mothers murder is still unraveling and I hope to see some real answers in the next book!
In the first book, I didn't really like her significant other very much but he was here again in the next book and they seem to be closer now though I still had occasional doubts about him.
The case they were working on was good and interesting, I have to say I liked her first case better but this one was also riveting and caught me from the first page.
I really can't recommend these books enough for people who like FBI thriller type stories!

If you like a 225 page story that devotes 80% of the text to a weak character full of angst and misgivings, this is for you. The other 20% deals with poor investigative work, improper police/FBI procedure, and unbelievable partner relationships where a seasoned veteran agent cedes all action to a novice agent. Throw in grammatical errors and plotline disconnects and you have the perfect mix for a mediocre book. I read book one, and was unimpressed. I followed with book two to look for improvements, but did not see any. I got what I paid for. The books were free on BookBub, so all I wasted was time.

I don't know why people liked it but it was bad. I mean if you're a ebook reader then you must have been reading books which is not highly rated so I can assume. Anyway the only reason I read this book because I have limited time and my books to complete, since I don't have physical book anymore I am reading ebooks. And also I am going home in four days so I didn't buy any new books. I will come back then I will buy more. I will be reading one more ebook and that's it.
I have Harry Potter collection but after part 3 the other books are lengthy so I will read them when I have enough time in my hands.

Sarah Sutton

Brilliantly written and has a serious cliffhanger!

This book puts a new meaning in the warning not to accept anything from strangers. How well do you really know someone? This is true not only in the latest case but also in Tara's life. I can't believe the story stopped where it did ... I HAVE to know what happens next!

Another Case Solved As Partnership Strengthens!

Tough to try to live up to Appalachian Trail serial murders, but these buried bodies on beach provide an equal unease and fascination as Tara and Warren work to uncover the how, why, and who of these murdered young women.

I feared that Tara would make same mistakes as she had done in series opener. However, she has learned to trust herself and to trust her partner. Part of the appeal in this series is their collaboration and conversations.

Although I did not enjoy this as much as series opener, the plot’s pacing, multiple conflicts, and great characters deliver an enjoyable mystery.

One Last Breath was a great read. I really want to give it 4.5 stars. The action, investigation, solution, and the overlying story about Agent Tara Mill’s childhood are well-written. My hesitation to rate it higher is just frustration that female main characters tend to do foolish things. Tara may have good motives, but sometimes she is incredibly foolhardy. I do love her courage and strength. Moreover, I read the book in one day, because I wanted to know how it all worked out.

It as just okay, you could tell this is a new/novice writer. First of all, the title really has nothing to do with the story at all. The book description also says how brilliant Tara Mills is but she seemed rather average to me. I don't think this caught my interest enough to read any more in the series. The narration of the book was good and it was a short story so it was not like it dragged on forever. I am not really sure what a lot of the reviewers liked about this book meriting such high reviews, its meh at best.
