Pocket/Purse size! This book evokes calm in all the ways. When I'm experiencing stress I love to flip to a random page and try the exercise presented. Numerous techniques worked for me, but some of my favorites were:
• Create Relaxation Reminders • Double Blow Exhale • 4-7-8 Breathing • Give Yourself Acupressure • Targeting the Stress Triangle
The layout has all the aesthetic feels. The color is a beautiful salmon/peach and the inside exercises are short, simple and to the point. I love that these exercises work for me in 5 minutes or less and are presented in an organized manner. I liked the scenario section at the end that offered specific exercises to refer back to for quick reference.
The templates I highly enjoyed were: • Meal Plan Template • Pros & Cons List • Creating Relaxation Reminders
I loved how the following sections were categorized: • Quiet the Mind • Write It Out • Calm the Mind • Calm the Body ... and more!
Valuable info. Cute and helpful. Great during times of stress.
I received an ARC from the publisher. The author may make changes prior to the final publication. All reviews by me are honest and voluntary.
As someone who is prone to stress, and as a teacher of stress-prone students, this little book is a gem. Sometimes 5 minutes is all we have, or need, to re-set a "stuck" feeling of overwhelm or stress. Divided into topical chapters for mind, writing, body, movement, and home, each activity can get one back into that relaxed parasympathetic nervous system state. The final chapter has common stress scenarios, with four suggested 5-minute remedies for each. I might have substituted some for my 75 stress relievers, including different meditation techniques, tai chi, sound therapy or singing bowl "sound baths", and maybe a bit more detail in some of the pages.
Editing: I found 3 typos in the book. In addition, a couple errors: in the herbal tea section, one drinks dried lavender flowers, not "lavender essential oil tea". Lavender essential oil is toxic when swallowed!!! In the section on nutrition, complex carbohydrates balance blood sugar, so I think "blood pressure" is an error. In addition, almonds do not contain Omega-3 fatty acids, but walnuts do.
Overall, the book is a great easy guide, especially recommended for those who parent or work with anxiety-prone teens and young adults. Thank you, Callisto, for the review copy!
I love this book! I got it at the beginning of one of the most stressful situations I have been in. I am considered high risk for the coronavirus. I was put on isolation at home long before the governor mandated it. This book was put to the test! I found it very helpful. The language is easy to understand. The ideas were a mix of some I knew and some new. Not all of them were for me but many I found useful. I loved quite a few. I am using ideas from this book daily. I love how the author walked me through some of them. I found that many of the ideas to reduce stress that worked for me, were ones that also worked for my grandchildren. The multigenerational stress relievers make this book a winner for me! Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher of this book for providing an ecopy for review consideration. I voluntarily reviewed this book. All thoughts are based on my experience reading and using this book.
It’s the simple things. Many of the suggestions contained in the book are things that I have heard before, but sometimes you need a reminder to take a little time and look at the small things instead of the big picture. This book helps you to do that. The organization of the book is spot on and the suggestions for ideas to help relieve and deal with stress are good. There are also quite a few resources contained within the book from apps to other books and even podcasts. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.
This book is really great in explaining stress and what is and what is not normal. There are a lot of exercises that are very similar, but there is a pleasant variety of new exercise as well. If anything this book could help you find the thing that can help you make your day more pleasant.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
We all have stressful moments from time to time. Whether it’s a screaming kid or a meeting from hell, or even a global pandemic, we all experience the unpleasant side effects of too much stress sometimes and need to take a minute to catch our breath. But why take a minute when you can take 5?
Take 5 minutes and read for pleasure, laugh, or scroll through your favorite photos to quiet your mind. Do a word puzzle, color a mandala, or make a gratitude list to help you write it out. Calm your body with a progressive muscle relaxation, having a cup of tea, or breathing with awareness.
Work it out with a brisk walk, a quick yoga pose, or acupressure. When you’re home, snuggle with your pet, fold the laundry, or take a dance break. Or you can try any of the other 50 suggestions for some quick stress relief in 5-Minute Stress Relief.
These clever ideas are together in a tiny book that’s easy to throw into your bag to carry with you or to share with those you care about. Gathered by Elena Welsh, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist from L.A. (and you can imagine how many of these ideas she herself used in that traffic!), this wealth of stress-reducing tips can help you center yourself in any challenging moment.
And when you find yourself facing something that really gets your heart rate up, Dr. Welsh has put together combinations of relievers to help you through One of Those Mornings, a Fight with a Friend, a Stressed-Out Boss, a Difficult Decision, or even (gulp) Wedding Planning. And if you get to the end and find you still crave more relief, she includes a wealth of resources, like apps, books, and podcasts where you can learn more and societies where you can turn for extra support.
5-Minute Stress Relief is a much needed resource during a difficult time, and I highly recommend this for anyone wanting some ideas on how to get through stressful days of too much work, too many kids around the house, and an unknown future. In days like these, we can all use all the help we can get.
A copy of 5-Minute Stress Relief was provided by Rockridge Press through the Callisto Media Publisher’s Club, with many thanks.
I was given an opportunity to read 5-Minute Stress Relief: 75 Exercises to Quiet Your Mind and Calm Your Body via the publisher. The choice to review this book was my own and my opinion is freely given.
Everyone has dealt with stress at one time or another, but some are more successful than others at managing it. Author Elena Welsh has compiled a series of 5 minute exercises, designed to help quiet the mind and calm the body. The book begins with an explanation of the stress response, as well as common causes and symptoms of stress. Once readers understand the root causes of stress, they can begin to work on eliminating them.
The book is then divided into a series of 5 minute exercises, separated into sections like Quiet the Mind, Calm the Body, At Home, Write it Out, and Work it Out. Here, readers can expect ideas of how to successfully complete relieving their stress, through a myriad of ways.
Finally, the author moves into stress scenarios, giving explanations on how best to deal with some common situations. This section is particularly helpful to those who seek guidance on how best to deal with every day issues and problems.
Upon reflection, most people would be able to come up with stress relief solutions on their own, but some might need to have a push in the right direction. For those who seek to relieve the stress that is weighing down their lives, 5-Minute Stress Relief: 75 Exercises to Quiet Your Mind and Calm Your Body may be exactly what they need.
A great little book to have at home or to take on the go so you have all these tips and exercises with you. My favorite was the chapter titled-Quiet the Mind with numerous exercises given. Highly recommend! I thank Callisto Publisher's Club for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The first chapter in this book discusses what causes stress and how it affects our bodies and minds. It goes through common emotional and physical symptoms of stress, and how we can change our behavior and reactions to better handle stress.
The second chapter begins the exercises for stress relief with simple things like focusing on the breath, being mindful of your surroundings, and activities like reading for pleasure, talking to someone about how you feel, quieting your mind, listening to music, and laughing more. Each of these come with detailed instructions that list the benefits of the activity. With guided meditations, positive affirmations, and instructions for using essential oils, this chapter has a lot of wonderful ideas for relieving stress.
The next chapter is full of journal prompts, lists to write, coloring ideas, and scheduling tips that help you to focus on gratitude, find the silver lining, and identify your real goals. With writing exercises to help clear the mind, this chapter is full of practical ways to release tension.
Chapter four is all about calming the body, using a body scan meditation, breathing exercises, getting a hug, creating a healthy meal plan, or having a hot cup of tea. There are even several types of herbal tea that are recommended as the best ones to soothe and calm the body, as well as a meal plan template where you can write in the foods you want.
Chapter five focuses on moving the body with walking meditations, stretching with yoga, and using acupressure to stimulate your body to heal itself and release stress. There are also instructions for self-massage, and other activities that can help get your body moving and exercising, especially outdoors in the sunshine and fresh air.
The next chapter gives mindfulness activities you can do around your home, like dancing around the house, watering your plants, or taking a shower. The last chapter is about how to deal with common stressful scenarios. These give suggested soothing activities to do before a big work presentation, or if you are worried about finances or health, or had a fight with a friend.
I love how this book is organized! I love the positive exercises and the great self-care ideas. The design and colors of the book are beautiful. The writing is clear and friendly. What a wonderful and helpful guide to getting rid of stress and finding strength and inner peace in any situation!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone.
This is such a great little book it has so many valuable ideas on managing stress.
This book focuses on short sessions and tips help you focus and relax. This ranges from breathing exercises drawing or doodling this is a wonderful way to relax and you don't need artistic skills to enjoy this activity.
I personally loved the recommendation to call or visit a friend give them a hug. It is a great reminder that we are never alone.
There is a chapter towards the beginning of the book about stress and how it can affect us it was very insightful. A great read for anyone that needs to take a few minutes for themselves.
I am personally a doodler and love art as a way to relax you don’t have to be an artist to reap the benefits of coloring, doodling or doing a fun project. Engaging in artistic endeavors has been found to reduce anxiety in college students and to induce emotional relaxation in people undergoing medical treatment sndcwome studies even think it can help reduce chronic pain.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Rockridge Press and Callisto Publishers for an honest review. I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest, unbiased review.
The cover makes this book extremely self explanatory. It’s 75 different 5 minute stress relief activities. Unlike many of the books that are similar, this book has two parts that really have it a little extra. There’s a decent, easy to follow chapter that explores different reasons that we feel stress, and also the effects of stress on the body. It is important to take stock of why you feel the way you do to best decide what exercises are best for you. Which definitely brings me to the other portion that stood out. While all 75 exercises are useful, sometimes you need a bit of guidance about what best suits your needs. After the exercises, there’s a chapter giving examples of some of the most common stresses and what activities have the greatest potential to ease that stress. I thought that was really useful.
This is such a good little book, and its small size make it easy to take with you if needed. The Author starts out explaining stress, what it is and what is not normal. It is full of helpful exercises to help you settle down so that you can have a better day. The exercises range from breathing to coloring in a mandala. There are several writing exercises like “ list five things you are grateful for” and “ things that are bothering me, will they matter in 5 years”. As someone who tend to become overly stressed very easily, I look forward to using the techniques in this book to help me.
I received a free copy of this product from Callisto Publishers in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way.
Part guided journal, part self-care guide, this book provides 75 different quick tips for helping you relieve stress, relax, and feel better! Some of the tips are probably things you might be able to come up with on your own, but sometimes it's just really nice to have someone guide you through a relaxation idea, even if it's simple. Part one is about 15 pages, talking about stress--what it is, why it affects you, and what you can do about it. There are tips for your mind, your body, your emotions, and even your workspace. The best part is that it's quick and easy. You can flip to any page, do a quick relaxation exercise, and then get right back to work!
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not influence my review.
I got this ebook free on amazon and if I had to pay for it I would give it 3 stars ( considering bang for your buck) so my 4 star rating is based solely off the book. I really enjoyed this very quick and easy read. It delivers what it says “tools to help deal with stress”. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because they did repeat a few steps so you don’t get exactly the amount they promise. I must say that I have already implemented some of their suggestions and they have worked wonders...I look forward to trying the other ones suggested. Would recommend getting this book from a library to anyone who wants to learn how to cope with stress better.

Who doesn’t experience stress and could use some relief from it? Certainly if it only takes a few moments of your time? Being a person that stress and overthinks about the smallest things, I was happy finding this little book full of tips. It really gives, simple, and easy, step by step exercises. No matter your personality or daily routine, there’s something for everyone.

Everybody experiences stress from time to time. Even I do, and I am trained to help people deal with their stress.
If you need some quick relief, this book has it. I love that each exercise is short and to the point. There are 75 of them, so you can pick a different one (I started from the beginning) each time you use it (for the first 75 times). I marked my favorites so I could go back to those again.
I got this book for free from the publisher, and this is an unbiased review.

Where to start? According to the author the effectiveness of many of those exercises are scientifically proven. I kinda doubt that. That said, I find it a useful list of stress-relief tips. Some of them I am already using, others I intend to try out in the near future.
Content wise it is ok (no more, no less), but the list is very useful when you need some stress-relief techniques.
I got this via the Humble Bundle Health & Wellness.
For someone who is always stressed out from work, home and family matters, I loved this book. I found myself feeling calmer just reading it. They literary walk you through the process and give you multiple examples of how this can be done. Some didn’t work for me but others did. Highly recommend to anyone who’s just trying to gain some relief from their stress.
Everyone experiences stress - some of us more than others. What's important is to fully understand what is normal with stress and what is not. There are a lot of exercise options within this book. Not everything works for the same person, but I'm sure you'll find something in this book to help you out. This book is sure to help improve your day!
This little book is sure to deliver much needed stress relief through the 75 options given. Each exercise takes a double page spread in the book and is recommended for five minutes (or more if you love it). Simple, easy to use format and small enough to throw in a purse and take anywhere. Many thanks to Callisto Publishers for sending my complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review!
I really loved how approachable this book is. When you're stressed, self care often feels like just another thing on the to do list. The fact that these exercises take 5 minutes or less makes it feel achievable to take a moment for self care. I like to flip through the book and do whatever exercise it opens to. I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher
This book is such a great book for everything that is going on today! With the ongoing virus and all the kids being home from school indefinitely the stress is high! The best part about this book is each exercise is only five minutes! I loved reading this book and will be reading it over and over again!
I loved this book. It is a quick reference guide and the exercises are only five minutes (as the title suggests). I would highly recommend this book as everyone has some sort of stress in their lives.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
This is a great resource for when stressful situations arise. It is also great for those few minutes you have in a waiting room before a stressful appointment. The techniques are simple and actually work! Highly recommend!
