What do you do when you accidentally end up in bed with your sexy, much younger neighbor? You act like it never happened, of course. You never kissed each other after that third glass of wine. You definitely didn’t swoon when he played you a song on his guitar. Never ran your hands over those rippled abs. And you definitely didn’t have the hottest - most toe curling - wild night of your life with him. Never happened. This summer was for getting over my divorce, not under a musician. There’s one little problem though. You don’t choose who you fall in love with. Maddox Brewer is a rockstar and too young for me. But when it comes to love, nothing is ever simple.
Bestselling Author Mickey Miller brings you a steamy romance about what happens when sparks fly between an older woman and a younger man.
Hi, there! My name is Mickey Miller and I write sexy, fun romance with smart characters. My books are great if you're looking for a light-hearted, steamy read with some humor and a happy ending! Happy reading!
I love romance between a younger man and an older woman but only if it is done right. Here, this woman is his childhood fantasy and when they meet years later when she is divorced, he is 26 and she is 36. I think it is not a big deal but she makes it SUCH A BIG DEAL for 210 pages!
(By the way, the writer makes a mathematical mistake at the beginning of the book. The hero hits on her when he is 18 and she refuses him. 8 years later, they meet again but the conversation is all about what they have been doing in the past 18 years -instead of 8 – since they last saw each other).
Anyways, when they meet again when he is 26, and she is 36, they have a one-night stand but after that, she constantly pushes him away saying she cannot rob the cradle (I HATED that saying so much… Is he 13 or what, for God's sake?)
Well, our cute hero tries to charm her and change her mind but for weeks and weeks, she doesn’t agree to give him another chance. She is obsessed about the 10-year-age difference between them. She is recently divorced and her parents also got divorced and she has lost her faith in long-term relationships and even if she tried to believe again, she cannot believe she could have it with such a hot young guy. She is sure he will hurt her.
Later on, with the push of her friend, she agrees to be friends with benefits with him for the summer but she is still extremely annoying because she constantly says they cannot last longer than a summer. It was meant to be one night but now that they are doing it again, it will be only for one summer. I wanted to slap her so many times. She caused a violent strike in me while reading.
And at the end of the summer, she cannot see how wrong she is and pushes him away and breaks up with him.
And can you believe it? In a book with 225 pages, the heroine finally says yes to him on page 210!!!

If you want to try it, be my guest but I wouldn’t recommend it as there are so many better examples of romance between a younger man and an older woman out there.
I can understand that any woman can have reservations about being with a younger man but hers was too much, too frustrating!
Here are some better examples of this trope:
MILF: Wrong Kind of Love by Erin Noelle Kiss My Ash by Leddy Harper All Grown Up by Vi Keeland Consolation Prize (Forbidden Men #9) by Linda Kage
*********************************************
What is even worse, although the book had some hot sex scenes, I didn’t feel anything about them. They didn’t mean anything to me – they didn’t make me feel.
Maybe because of how it is written? No feelings, no real chemistry? Maybe because it was written by a male author and I didn’t like it the way it was written based solely on sex?
Or maybe because I believed in the hero’s feelings but not in the heroine’s, and their sex was just meaningless for me for that reason? All along the book, I thought he could have done better with someone else. Her best friend who was at the same age with her was so into him, maybe she could have made him happier? I don’t know.
I think their intimate scenes were a boring part I wanted to skim and scan, mostly because I never ever felt their connection. Their sex scenes were just a superficial addition to it all for me. I never understood why such an awesome guy would insist on being with such an annoying woman.
(I need to write down a note saying I won’t read again from this writer because he cannot make me feel. So, I am definitely not continuing the series.)
*********************************************
The ending is another cliché!
I don't know why but I think I thought it could end in a different and refreshing way with a male writer, but I guess there is a rule written out there about how everyone needs to get married and pop out babies and so a woman like her who said she didn’t want to have children had a child in the end.
Well, we never knew how or why she changed her mind. (The book doesn't have enough depth like that about anything). It is just in the epilogue 6 years later that we learn this woman who didn’t want a child for so many years now had a child.
*********************************************
All in all, this book was a waste of time for me. Thank God it was free on KU.

Safety:
If you still are interested, it is a safe book with no OW or OM drama.

Writing
- Dual point of view. - 225 pages. - Part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone, no cliffhangers. - Has a cliché HEA. - Formulaic dull writing which doesn’t make you feel.
DNF due to boredom - time of death 35% on the plus side the fellow is not a manwhore. But he still is not swoon worthy imo. Still that makes it better than many of the DNFs I have so I will round up to 2.
Heroine's 10 years older than hero. She's recently divorces from a 12 year marriage to her high school sweetheart. Hero's ex broke up with him a year ago and he hasn't been with anyone since then. He doesn't have sex just to have sex, he likes it to mean something. That was refreshing.
This is Mickey Miller's first older woman/younger man romance and I gotta say for a summer read that takes you on a emotional rollercoaster which is typical for a Mickey book. It sure packs a punch in the feels department. Highly recommend.
3.5 stars! This was my first Mickey Miller experience. Sweet and complicated characters. Slow and angsty story but a page turner! And I’m a sucker for a gorgeous cover!😉
The concept is intriguing – older woman (by 10 years) hooks up for a “summer fling” with a young man who used to have a crush on her. As I’m discovering with the romance genre in general, concepts are one thing; good execution is another. The execution here was really lacking, in my opinion.
There were also a LOT of questionable word choices – “waiting for her to ‘expand’” instead of “waiting for her to ‘explain’” – that left me cringing and grimacing. And, don’t get me started on the other technical issues – those always make me crazy.
Finally, the whole novel felt formulaic, as though the author were reading through a “romance novel checklist” while writing. The main characters felt to me like cardboard cut-outs, with only “lip service” motivations provided for their behaviors. The situations the author presented to the characters also felt contrived and unrealistic, as were the characters’ reactions to those situations.
So, I’m returning this, as well as the second novel in this series, “The Hold Out.” I’ll be avoiding this author’s works in the future.
Mickey has done it again. This is his first older woman/younger man book and I loved it. Sherry and Maddox have known each other for years. They both had beach houses in Michigan and they would spend the summers up there. Sherry is 10 years older than Maddox but that never stopped the crush that he had on her. Fast forward 18 years and now Sherry is 36 and having some issues with her personal and work life and decides to take a trip to clear her mind. Maddox who is now 26 is staying at his family’s house and he sees her again. The crush he had has now come back full force for her. Sherry only wants one night but Maddox wants much longer. Will she give it longer than the one night? You will have to pick up the book and see for yourself and trust me when I say, you will not be disappointed.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Maddox...deliciously wonderful! Age ain't nothin but a number when we meet him. An old soul in a young body. A hot 26 yo body. And he's hot for the woman next door, his childhood fantasy.
Sherry finds herself on her Michigan vacation. Finds her confidence, her passion (both work and personal), and finds the love of her life right next door.
Steamy, sexy, sweet, tender, just the right touch of drama...a perfect summer read...or those cold winters nights when you dream of summer passion, this novel captures it perfectly.

I'm not sure if this author made a change in the main story and never updated the prologue. Who knows but he kept referencing 20 years, when the hero was 8 and that they hadn't seen each other in 20 years.
1st --> In the prologue he was 18. Not 8. Heroine was 28 and married. 2nd --> In the first chapter they both kept thinking it was 20 years since they'd seen each other. 3rd --> The beginning of the first chapter said 8 years later. Heroine is 36 which would make it 8 years later. 4th --> Hero kept referencing how he found her hot at 8 and she gave him a woody. Um, ewww.
So, yeah, not going to read this one or the other by this author I downloaded. On to something new.
This is Mickey’s best yet and has knocked Casanova experience off its top spot (a very tall order). I loved the premise of this book and it had enough to keep me interested, was realistic and was HAF(seriously your temperature will rise). It’s a younger man older woman novel but there are no cougars or asshole males here. It’s the right balance of pursuit without being wincingly borderline sexual harassment on either side. Maddox is the right amount of confident and Sherry the right level of nervousness without being whiny. This is definitely a book I will read more than once and I literally have only 5 of those across all genres. Read it you won’t be disappointed.
This is an enjoyable read that will hold your interest throughout the story. We’re given a younger man/older woman story that has you cheering these two on and see where things can go when you stop thinking about what other will think and just follow your feelings. Sherry and Maddox’ story had me feeling more of a connection to them because it was relatable and realistic. It’s nice to have a book that is hot and romantic while not over done and have you feeling like it’s only ever a fantasy.
Very sexy story. I like the age difference in this. Sometimes authors make the younger counterpart too young, at least in my opinion. I thought this was perfect. The characters were interesting and made me want to know more about them
This is your run of the mill age gap/ fluff romance. A quick and easy beach/weekend read.
Dual POV, she's 36 and he's 26.
What I did like: The writing flows and makes for a fast read, the banter between characters is never stilted. Maddox is a sweet and funny male protagonist, if not a little too determined to win over the affections of his childhood crush.
I like how their relationship progresses and that he isn't intimidated by an older, more established woman who's a career woman. I also like that Sherry doesn't get hung up on Maddox being in a place of transition in his life.
What I didn't like: FIRST there is some continuity errors as far as the last time Maddox and Sherry run into one another, the prologue has them talking at 18 and 28, but when the book starts she says she hasn't seen him in 18 years which would have made him 8 and would have hardly left an impression on him about how attractive she was, at least I would think.
I also think there could have been more moments that helped to build their relationship beyond sexual chemistry.
Over all I really don't have anything bad to say, if age gap older female younger male is your thing this is worth your time.
"I want you, for as long as we can have each other. If that's one more day, so be it. If it's a lifetime, I'll take that too."
Do you remember the one that got away? Or maybe, it was the one that you never had but dreamed about having? Sure, we all do, right? But, what if you had a second chance at the chance you never had? Wouldn't that be awesome? Well, kudos to Maddox for taking that chance and never giving it up!! What a heartthrob he is! Holy Hannah!!
Maddox Brewer needed to get away. Somewhere away from distractions. Away from the ache of his break-up. He needs to finish this album and he needs to write. A lot. Heading to his uncle's lake house sounded perfect. But when SHE shows up next door, his plans change. Sure, he can still write some lyrics and play his guitar, but what he really wants to do is play her body like a Stradivarius. The object of his pre-pubescent fantasies, Sherry is now within arm's reach. Sure she's older than him by a decade, but age is just a number to him. He's not wasting this chance to make his dreams a reality and he'll do everything he can to convince her that he's the one for her. Even if that means letting her go.
Sherry Robbins needed a break. She has to finish her research paper and try for tenure. Again. She could have stayed at the University and worked on he paper in her office, but working with your ex-husband doesn't lend itself to peace with no distractions. What better place to get away from it all than her family's lake house. No distractions? Right! Not when one of the Brewer boys shows up next door. As she shamelessly ogles his ripped abs and muscles, she soon realizes that it's Maddox, the youngest of the brothers. He's a decade younger than her, but she just can't help herself from taking advantage of a little fun between the sheets with the boy next door. But, it can never last. She's too old for him. Right?
These two were an amazing couple!! Sherry trying to be the mature one, the one doing the right thing. Maddox in relentless pursuit of her and pushing her to her limits, hoping she'll see past the age gap and just see....him. Maddox is totally swoon-worthy!! Loved this story!!
Miller does it again, this time with a slightly taboo love story between an older woman and younger man. Maddox Brewer heads to his family's lake house in upper Michigan for the summer to work on writing the rest of the songs he needs for his upcoming album. He's sequestered away and sworn off all distractions. That is until his childhood crush, Sherry Robbins, shows up at her family's house next door.
Professor Sherry Robbins is taking the summer to move past her failed marriage, rediscover herself, and work on a research article that could give her tenure at the small university where she teaches. She also doesn’t want any distractions, but she can’t help but notice that the youngest of the Brewer brothers sure has grown up fine. Very, very fine.
With irresistible wit and sarcasm, Miller can’t help going a little “coo coo ca choo" with Ms. Robbin(son) and her decade younger boy toy, yet he still delivers a refreshing depth of heart and the sizzling chemistry we’ve come to expect from this not-so-closet romantic. These characters are just enough conflicted and broken to make them loveable and relatable, and the introduction of the other Brewer brothers only serves to whet our appetite for more from these fabulous characters. If you like a book that will make you laugh out loud, has a hint of the forbidden, generates enough heat to melt the polar ice caps, and squeezes your heart in the best of ways, you’ll love Maddox and Sherry's story!
*I reviewed an early edition of this book freely and voluntarily, having made no commitment to provide feedback and receiving no compensation of any kind from any source.
I was looking forward to reading my first story about an older woman/younger man. Mickey Miller nailed it!!..Being an older woman myself, I could relate to Sherry's insecurities and doubts when she fell hard for Maddox. Maddox brought out all her inner sexual cravings to the surface. He was sexy, hot and satisfied all of Sherry's desires both sexual and emotional. They both had bad relationships in the past which played a huge part in Sherry's hesitancy in jumping into the deep end with Maddox. Maddox was all in and on board for continuing their summer fling, but Sherry was skittish. She could not seem to get her head around the age gap between them.
Maddox surprised me with his outlook on life. He knew what he wanted and he wanted Sherry. His feelings for her would not abate. I love that he did not give up on what they had together. A connection that he had never experienced with anyone else. They were so different, Maddox a musician, Sherry a Professor. But they shared a passion that does not happen if ever in one's lifetime.
Well done and thank you Mickey Miller for a passionate touching story. My favorite line in the book "If this is going to work, I've got to think of you as a journey, not a destination"
"A girl could get used to having a man like him around. I know I am."
Sherry and Maddox, Omg I'm obsessed with them, with this book. I was completely hooked from chapter one, page one.... When they met, it was crazy chemistry, they had this pull and it was intoxicating. I laughed out loud, I had steam coming from my kindle, I felt, sad and worried and excited. I also found myself annoyed at Sherry, I understand why she felt that way but I wanted to shake her. I wanted to yell and say SNAP out of it girl!! He's here in front of you, take it, hell I would! Lol. Maddox and Sherry had a bit of an age gap, like 10 yrs gap.... but Chile, screw that! He made me swoon through my kindle, ha! Age ain't nothing but a number when they're over 21 of course! He was smart, had a bit of an old soul, funny, sexy, kinky and just what Sherry needs after having a pretty rough year. You know sometimes you have to stop worrying about the past, stop worrying about what ppls would think, stop talking yourself out of what could be a good thing. Pay attention to the now, to what's in front of you. If you don't, you might miss your happily ever after. I loved every minute of this book, I devoured it all and I need more!! Mickey Miller is Amazing as always.
"A sort of tragic smile crosses my face, though. Despite these facts, despite our age difference, despite EVERYTHING, it really has been the most magnificent summer of my life."
The perfect Summer Read escape that ticked all the boxes!! Off the charts hotness, a fun and addictive story that I inhaled before I even knew it that had me turning up my A/C to cool myself off. I loved that they grew up together and the obstacles these two overcame because they were absolutely perfect together regardless of the age difference that she kept getting hung up on. Sweet, steamy, with sprinkled angst to keep you glued to the pages, this may be one of my favorites so far from this Author!! The fact that the insanely hot Maddox was the youngest of The Brewer brothers? I'm hooked and insanely excited to see ALL of them in action in future books. I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
"When I feel her start to pull away, I bring her closer. Hold her tighter. Because her touch...her touch is like fire. Only this time, I don't mind the burn."
What a smart, sassy, sexy and funny first read by MM for me. I read this saucy romance in one sitting, I had to know how things ended between Maddox and Sherry. You don't see a lot of older women, younger man stories and that right there scored some major brownie points for me.
Maddox was HOT 🔥🔥🔥 I loved how he says what he means and means what he says. There is no BS with this young poet/musician and that was such a refreshing change. He knew what he wanted and he went for it. Sherry didn't stand a chance. She was difficult at times and while that frustrated me, I completely understood where her hesitation about getting involved with Maddox stemmed from. She had her reasons, she just needed to follow her heart and not worry what others thought.
The writing was engaging, the characters were lovable and I can't wait to read more about the rest of the Brewer men. You have a new fan, Mickey!
Oh my goodness... just no! How did this even get published? Don’t waste your time... this was God Awful! HOW ARE THE RATINGS SO HIGH! The plot line has SO much potential, but I was already annoyed with the Hero in the prologue! Who speaks to an older married/engaged woman that way! Totally outrageous.
And don’t get me started on the editing errors... problems with ages and time frames... at one point the character is up in the attic watching her and then he says he goes back inside... but he never actually said he went outside?? This happened a lot... shit like this is SO annoying to me... I come to read romance to escape real life for a little while... not to be annoyed and confused!
All telling, and not enough showing. I gave up at 13% - TERRRRRIBLE!
This book was a hard one to rate. I liked the book for the most part. it was steamy, engaging and had the kind of storyline I love to read about, which is Older woman, younger man. There were a few things that didn't quite connect to, and a few things that were repeated a number of times. Sherry was a harder character to connect to then Maddox was.
I liked the connection between the characters, they were combustable. The book definitely had a high steam factor. I love this author's writing and am upset that this book didn't connect to me as well as it did for others, but I can not wait for Jocko's book next.
To be honest, this is a trope that I am very wary of, some of these type of books are amazing, others are just cringy.
Put simply this book was in the amazing basket, A younger Male, older female romance, with lots of heat, and a whole bunch of lovable new characters to follow throughout this series! Oh yes, I'm very excited that there are more on the way!!!
I shouldn't have been worried, Mickey seems to know the perfect recipe for a good book, a bit of heat, a big chunk of funny, and a few hot sex scenes to make it perfect! Well worth the read!!
Truly enjoyed reading this one from beginning to end. The story is simple and relatable, May-December love affair that is intense but sweet in every way. Love the fact that Maddox started with having a huge crush on Sherry. He acted on the strong attraction in good taste. The right aggressiveness and Sherry on the otherhand, let loose and allowed herself the chance to enjoy the attention and singleness. The story to me speaks of realizing that love know no age difference and finding happiness by fighting for what you feel.
This story was ingenious and definitely some of Mickey’s best writing. The concept of an older woman with a younger man intrigued me. Then when mixed with the idea of writing about the romance genre, I did not want to stop reading. This story is so hot and the chemistry between Maddox and Sherri is off the charts. Loved everything about this story and it’s one of my favorite and hottest summer reads!!!
If u could give 0 stars I would. This was just not good. The quality of writing is atrocious, truly terrible. We're supposed to believe that the main characters have or are enrolled in a doctorate program but there is no indication based on their conversations that that could ever be possible. There's so many holes in the plot and it's just too far fetched. The writing is the worst part about it. I do not recommend this book at all.
I liked this story because it was a realistic age difference between Maddox and Sherry. They have great chemistry. Maddox was sweet, sexy, compassionate and really put in the extra effort to try and make things work. I wasn’t a fan of Sherry’s character. I found her personality to be hard and difficult. The ending seemed to wrap up relatively quickly after them being apart for sometime.
