Witch Way #5

Witch Way to Death & Destruction

Rate this book
A Druid, a Sorceress, and a Demon Hunter walk into a bar ... sounds like the start of a joke, right? Only it's no joke. Whitefall Cove is over-run with otherworld creatures and this trio is our only hope.

With townsfolk possessed and goblins running amok, the last thing we need is a murder, but someone is out for blood, and I fear it's mine. Llewellyn the demon hunter is convinced I'm some powerful witch that needs protecting, and as more and more bizarre occurrences pile up, I'm starting to think he might be right.

Can the supernatural threesome free our town from the grip of terror the demons have wrought, or will the darkness that I can sense coming -- the one that is creeping closer and has eyes that glow red in the night -- finally be my undoing?

This paranormal murder mystery will have you completely spellbound and laughing out loud!

This is the fifth book in Hinchey’s cozy mystery series and as with all the others it’s a great, fun, easy read. Although it helps to have read some or all of the previous books in the series, each one is also enjoyable as a stand-alone book.

The cover of the book is striking and continues the theme of the rest of the series with Harper this time dressed in a black skeleton inspired outfit and Archie playing in the background.

The book opens with the announcement “There is a demon on the loose in Whitefall Cove.” It’s enough to put any town into a spin, but Whitefall Cove is protected by wards, so how could a demon possibly have penetrated?

Izzy, headmistress at the Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry, has invited a druid (Finn Hurley from the Otherworld) and a sorceress (Morgan Healy) to come and fix the wards, and the very charismatic Llewellyn Cox, demon hunter has also arrived to assist.

But what is taking so long to fix the broken wards? As Whitefall Cove becomes overrun with goblins and trolls (did you know goblins pee sulfur?), red eyes gleam in the darkness, Gran turns up in a matching outfit befitting her senior years and Llewellyn turns up naked, dead and drained of blood it becomes clear to Harper and the rest of the Murder Club that it’s time to reconvene and work out what is going on.

Is Harper the Whitelight Witch? Why have the ghosts stopped talking to Jackson? Why has Jackson suddenly left Whitefall Cove and why won’t he answer Harper’s phone calls? Did Monica kill Llewellyn? Who is Brigit? And what is going on in the basement of the Academy?

You might think you’ve worked out what is going on, and whodunit, but you’ll probably be wrong!

Highly recommended, 5 stars.

I received this book as an ARC from the author in return for an honest review

I have been a fan of this series since the beginning, and I feel the series just keeps getting better and better. This is the best one yet! Demons are on the loose, Harper might be a Whitelight witch, there are some new players in town, and Jackson is acting in an unusual way. What else could possibly go wrong? This was a great ride from beginning to end with all the characters giving the reader a great time. I loved the plot, and I wasn’t sure of the evildoers until the end. I am loving this series, and I can’t wait until the next one. Highly recommend, and I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

There was a bit more world building in this, the 5th entry in the Witch Way paranormal mystery series. Things were also a bit darker, as the town is overflowing with creatures never seen there before, including demons. I enjoyed this for the most part, but thought there were a few too many plot threads that weren't fully explored. Still, I look forward to the next in the series, and to see what happens with Drixworths school.

A great addition to the series! When the town is overcome with demons, outside help is summoned in the form of a sorceress, a druid and a demon hunter named Llewellyn who is convinced that Harper is a rare Whitelight witch. In addition to the hunt for baddies, Llewellyn provides coaching to Harper who discovers talents she never knew she had. Great characters - Gran provides a comedic relief to the storyline. Never guessed who was behind all the mayhem. Looking forward to the next adventure!

I was provided with an ARC of this book, but my review is voluntary.

Another great addition to the series.
Be prepared for fun, laugh, serious cases, murder, and secrets that will be showing out of nowhere.
Harper and her club have another thing going on - someone opened a portal in their town and it needs to be closed, but this will be not that easy. Will Harper manage to save everyone? And who will be a culprit here? No one can be trusted and Harper will have to her eyes around her head.
I really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next installment.

Great addition to the series. Harper Jones can't believe it when Izzy tells the town that a demon is loose and has gotten through the town's wards. Dark magic is at work and everyone, including the local ghosts, is in a frenzy. When a demon hunter comes to town Harper will learn something about herself that will change everything for her. Join the murder club members as they struggle to solve an unexpected murder that includes several of them as suspects. Gran is her usual fashion disaster and will make you laugh.

Demons are invading the town. The wards are supposedly failing. A sorceress and a Druid are called in to help, along with a demon hunter. But things are not as they seem. When a murder occurs that’s when things finally start to fall into place. The Murder gang is on it!
I really enjoyed this book. The characters are fun and it’s an easy and quick read. The whole series is fantastic!

This latest magical adventure begins with Harper Jones and Gran on the case of the centuries old wards to keep Whitefall Cove safe for humans and supernaturals have been broken recently. The arrival of a Sorceress, Morgan Healy and the Otherworld druid, Finn Hurley, and Llewellyn Cox, the demon hunter, are called in to find the parties who caused this rift between the two worlds. A death and an escalating number of trolls and gremlins are in the community is causing havoc to the citizens. Evidence is pointing to some magical beings may be intentionally practicing dark magic to summon an evil presence to complete a spell or to cause a rouse to complete another crime? Harper, Archie, Gran, Jackson, and the murder club are on the case to find out who or what is causing all this mayhem before any more evil can hit Whitefall Cove!

This witty story does provide the ever growing suspect list that keeps the Murder Club busy on finding clues and other worldly information to solve this mystery. One of the highlights in this plotline is the fact that Harper found out some surprising news about her magical powers that provides more entertaining magical adventures in the future. I would love to see more stories about Harper’s magical past and how she became the witch that she is. Another plus is the character of Gran is a great addition to this storyline as always, providing her crazy brand of sarcasm and funny antics. I like the characters of Finn and Morgan, who added a depth of other magical beings to this series that is great fun.

The first drawback is the too much information regarding bodily functions of farts and poop during this storyline that can be a turn off for some readers. The second one is the addition of a scene between Jackson and his police partner, Brian, during a foiled drug bust did not fit in this particular mystery at all. It was mentioned during Harper’s and Jackson’s conversation, and then, no follow up or information as to why this scene is important in the story.

Overall, this is a good and light paranormal fantasy that does provide the snarky conversations and laughs that is perfect for a weekend read. The book does provide a good ending and some interesting twists for a new adventure for Harper, Archie, Gran and the Murder Club crew in a future book. I was given an ARC for an honest opinion.

Demons and other unfriendly creatures are turning up in Whitefall Cove, despite the wards placed upon the town. No one knows why or how they’re getting in, but experts have been called to rid the town of them and stop them from returning. As always, Harper Jones, bookstore owner and reluctant witch, winds up smack-dab in the middle of it, bringing along her wonderful Gran and her friends. Jackson Ward, her police detective boyfriend, is missing for much of this story, which irks and concerns Harper at the same time. Will he return in time to assist Harper in solving this mystery? And is Harper the Whitelight Witch? And if she is, what does that mean for her, for her future?

The characters are beautifully drawn in this book, in the entire series to date. In this series installment, Harper and the usual cast of characters are joined by a sorceress, a druid, and a demon hunter, as well as a few interesting town folk. Life gets interesting, people die, and the murder club gets busy. Harper, Gran, and other witches battle with gremlins, goblins, and trolls, as they work together to try to solve how those beings are crossing from the
Otherworld into Whitefall Cove.

This story is remarkably well plotted, and the storyline is realistic, for a fantasy. I think this might be my favorite book in this series of cozy mysteries to date. The writing is top notch, the action is perfectly paced, and it will keep you involved and interested in finding out what might happen next. There are some surprises, too. Is it wrong of me to say that I hope the next book in the series is out very soon?

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author. I appreciate her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review express my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

The Murder Club has more mysteries to solve

I have to admit that I was disappointed with this book. I have read the previous four and liked them but this just did not do it for me. I miss Blake a lot, I don't particularly like Jackson, and a new character that was introduced that I did like made much too early a departure for my liking.
I don't feel the romance between Harper and Jackson at all. They have been mooning over each other since the beginning of the series, when Jackson was unavailable, and suddenly they are together but I felt that we were just told about it and not shown.
The story wasn't bad per se, but it was anticlimactic (as Harper herself admits). Interesting new characters were introduced and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with them, presuming we get to find out. Harper finds out more about her magic and what she may be, and that was intriguing.
Gran remains my favourite character by far. That fabulous fashion icon can do no wrong. I'm definitely voting for her in the upcoming election at a certain magic institution, which won't know what's hit them if she wins!

Another great addition to the Witch Way Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series.
There is a variety of new characters in this book. A demon hunter, a sorceress, and a Druid from another dimension. Now imagine these characters along with Harper's murder club working to solve who caused a rift that is allowing demons and other creatures into their town causing havoc.
Entertaining is definitely a word that comes into mind. As usual Gran is part of this and her character alone is the comic relief.

The mystery gets solved but a few loose threads bother me and that Is why I gave it a four star.
The main one is what the sorceress was up to and will she reappear? Maybe another book is in the works to answer those questions. I really don't know. But over all I found myself laughing out load during many parts of the books and waiting.....yes waiting for more between Harper and her love interest. Fun is what you can definetley expect when reading a book from this series.
Remember it's a great way to wind down and enjoy a simple mystery with a promise of fun and entertainment for all types of readers.

The wards seem to have been breeched when a demon is spotted in town. Izzy, headmistress at the Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry has called a meeting and tells the townspeople, she has invited a Druid, a sorceress and a very hot demon hunter named Llewellyn to fix the damage to the wards and get rid of the demon. Things seem to be going badly and nothing seems to be happening to get rid of the demons. Then we have a murder and Harper and Gran decide it's time to get the Murder Club together to see what is going on and investigate the murder. Harper keeps getting labeled as a White Light Witch a very powerful witch and she just can't see it as true since she only read about it in books as a fable. With twists and turns and a surprise ending, we are tickled along the way with Gran providing a lot of laugh out loud moments! I loved this 5th book in the series and can't wait for the next adventure for Harper and Gran and the Murder Club. I received an ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

This was another great continuation to the Witch Way Series. It has the same great characters, as well as some interesting new ones. There is definitely way more magic in this one than in the last one. We even get to see different supernatural creatures in this one. Overall the pacing was good. My only criticism is that the ending needed a little something. I'm not sure what exactly. Just something. Even Harper called it anti-climactic. Normally Harper talks more with the bad guy during the big showdown. It usually lasts a little longer too - though I suppose some villains are smart enough to not give a long spiel while they're interacting with the good guys. Either way, there's enough going on that will make you want to know what happens next. I know I do. I am voluntarily reviewing this book, gifted to me by the author with no obligation.

Who are Finn, Morgan, and Llewellyn? Why have they come to Whitehouse Cove? Who and/or what is a Whitelight Witch? What happens that Llewellyn has to move his RV? Where is he going to move it to? Why does Jackson up and disappear while on a date with Harper? Where does he go? What happens that he is asked to go to the RV park? Why did Jackson take off? Why did he not get in touch with Harper? OH my goodness, what I was thinking was so wrong about what was truly going on. It was a total shock for me! You have to read this story! Poor Izzy!

WITCH WAY TO DEATH & DESTRUCTION : (Book 5 Witch Way Series) : Jane Hinchey.

Loads More Magic, But Not The Usual Mayhem, Murder, Mystery & Way Less LOL Gran Madness Moments!

There's some I like,  some I love & some thats just so so. But book 5 misses the mark overall for me. Let me explain...

Harper is meant to be this All-Powerful Mighty Witch (and I realise she turned her back on her witch heritage until moving back to Whiltefall Cove (just 5 books ago) and re-accepting her powers. But powers are meant to grow over time not plateau! And yes they have grown in book 5.

This has been a major point contention for me as a book about Magic, Murder, Mayhem and Mystery must have an abundance of all of these attributes and for me the Magic has been sorely lacking. But Hopefully that's all about to change!

Harper is taught her craft from the best of the Drixworths Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry, plus there's her Gran, but so far the magic & spells have been fairly mundane and simplistic and they haven't progressed in grandeur.

The more Harper learns, the more her powers should grow, after all she is meant to be one powerful witch, but until recently we've seen little magic with only simplistic spells! Perhaps this is the fault of her teachers (maybe they need a refresher course or two).

And Now we have a new term thrown into the mix 'The Whitelight Witch!'
A Whitelight Witch is a rare and powerful witch and now there's one in town.

With an injection of new blood, the cast & crew grow. A bunch of new Supernatural's it adds that extra bit of spice to the story.
Theres a Sorceress, A Druid, A Demon Hunter. One's nice, one not so nice and the other's extremely nice!

My favourite new character has to be Llewellyn Cox (the Demon Hunter, Gypsy / Seer, Botanist / Herbalist.
This easy on the eye, hot as sin nature loving nudist, believes Harper is the The Whitelight Witch and begins to train her in secret, for fear she'll be targeted by whoever's opened 'The Rift', a tear in the fabric of Our World & the Otherworld and lesser Demons are pouring in, in droves, and they're running amok!
Plus something, something BAD IS COMING!
Harper feels it, even the ghosts feel it, they're petrified & in hiding even from Jackson. Actually everybody in town feels it!
Harper & Llewellyn train and train and her powers grow in ways she could never imagine, learning more in a just one day than she has her the entire time at Drixworths.

I've been following this series since book 2, but have now read them all and have absolutely loved it all, up untill now.
It's not that its a bad read, I did enjoy it,
I just don't think its upto Jane's unusually high standards.

The first quarter of the book seemed rushed both by the author and in the story. This is completely out of the ordinary for this author, who's writing is usually sublime, cool, calm collected and so precise and then the ending happened within the blink of an eye & I was left feeling a bit blazé.

And as much as I hate to write this review as Ms Hinchey is a favorite author of mine, I didn't find the book as appealing nor entertaining as books 1-4.

But it does have its pro's & con's.

Pro's : There is so much more magic in this book, which is what the series is centered around, I just hope this continues in leaps & bounds!

Con's: As always Gran was up to her neck in her usual shenanigans, but much of it fell flat for me with only one laughing out loud moment. She's quite the character, crazy, zany and eccentric. Usually my favourite by far, but her usual hilarity missed the mark for me this time as it all seemed centred around her old lady fart / poo jokes, only going so far (it's strange as fart jokes never truly die, they hang around smelling forever)!

There is a solid team of likeable / loveable regular characters, but an injection of fresh blood an more Supernatural Creatures was sorely needed and gave the book some of it's best moments with Goblins, Gremlins, Trolls & Demons.

Harper seems more whingeing and annoying, perhaps it's her frustration at the pace her powers were coming along or it's due to Jackson's strange behaviour or a conbo of both or maybe it about something else entirely, something we are yet to know of?

One thing lacking for me is there hasn't always been enough magic in these paranormal cozy mysteries, especially compared to other authors I've read in the same genre, but this one gives us that, but still, Please, Ms, I want some More...Magic!"

And who knows who'll teach Harper now, with her magic growing, powers escalating the imagination is the limit!

Loved, loved, loved & totally adored the new character Llewellyn Cox, sly as a fox, sarcastic, smart as a whip
shame the role wasn't bigger, I think he would have made a great addition to Whitefall Cove cast or I guess he could still, I'd definitely love to see him return as a regular even if that's not Ms Hinchey's intention.

The other big selling point to this book is the great range of supernatural creatures & critters. After all Whitefall Cove is a magical community and it's on magicl leylines and it's what brings in the supernatural & now word is out, tourist alike!

Also a major story arc was left unexplained, What's with that?
For those of you who haven't read it,
I'll just say, it's in the Eyes, the Red one's. I 'd hate to give away spoilers or ruin surprises.

I RATE WITCH WAY TO DEATH AND DESTRUCTION 4⭐ OUT OF 5 ⭐.

Another Soild Book By Jane Hinchey
I Definitely Recommend Book & Series

I recieved an ARC Copy of this book from the author's and this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

Well-written fun

Harper and friends are back, and there's more mayhem in town! I just love this tight-knit bunch, and their utter loyalty to one another enhances this series. Gran provides comic relief, and Archie continues to prove his worth as a familiar. I enjoyed the way the murder is seamlessly interjected into the chaos already in play. There are so many lies, half truths, and misdirects from so many sources that the reader is kept fully involved in the plot, and unmasking the guilty is such a surprise. It should be interesting to see how Harper's personal discoveries, as well as the changes in store for Whitefall Cove, will play out in the next installment of this series!

Witch Way to Death & Destruction

A great book and fun to read. Whitefall Cove has a problem with mischievous supernatural creatures. Everyone is told that a doorway between dimensions is the cause. Izzy, the head of Whitefall Cove Coven, has enlisted the aide of a druid and a sorceress to help with the problem. Izzy also asked a demon hunter to help also.
The demon hunter, Llewellyn, tells Harper that she is a Whitelight Witch. Harper does not believe him but he gives her some lessons on her magic that makes her think it might be true.
Harper ends up finding someone that has been killed again so the Murder Mystery Club starts looking for clues.
I totally love this series. You never expect what will happen or when or who.

The gang is all there to solve several mysteries. Why are demons, gremlins and goblins causing problems in this previously warded town? Who murdered the demon hunter? Read this fantastic cozy to find out. There are twists and laugh out loud dialog. The characters are a hoot, especially Gran! I want to be just like her. Harper and the rest of the murder club try to find all the answers. I highly recommend this book because I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait for the next one!

Serious threats to the safety of the town bring a dangerous sorceress, an Otherworld specialist, and a demon hunter to town. Llewelyn seems to think Harper needs protection and some training.

Too bad he also seems to have a few other agendas.

Others seek to fulfill their own goals regardless of cost to the town

Jackson pursues something else entirely. Even if his goals are just, no notice or communications at all are not good.

Gran looking far too tame must be a sign of possession.

A bumpy ride that’s great fun to read!

Another great installment in Jane Hinchey's Witch Way series.
Demons & Goblins are on the loose in Whitefall Cove.
A druid, a sorceress & a demon hunter arrive to help.
And who is this Whitelight Witch , could it be Harper?
Of course, there's also a murder, prompting Harper to investigate.
Reading about Gran being possessed by a demon is actually quite funny, but having a Goblin infestation certainly is not.
Keeps you guessing and more is revealed avout Harper being a powerful witch.
Highly recommend this book.

Best Book Yet

I am happy to say that so far this is the best book yet. Lots of action and mystery and what’s more is Harper is very much using her magic. Finally! I’m still hoping Archie talks. I’m totally digging the relationship dynamic between Jackson and Harper. I’m still curious as ever about Blake. I also liked that the conclusion didn’t feel rushed and wasn’t solely solved because of a confession. I’m looking forward to book 6 and hoping Jane Hinchey will continue with more books in this series soon! Totally recommend this read!
