DI Mike Nash #6

Alone with a Killer

Rate this book
Detective Mike Nash thought that moving back to Yorkshire from London would give him a quieter life. Little did he know . . .

Alone in an isolated Yorkshire cottage, Vanda Dawson waits for her sister Jo to come keep her company. Her husband Brian is away on holiday.

Outside, as storms lash the country, Jo struggles to reach the house. But she finds it deserted and in darkness.

WHERE HAS VANDA GONE?

With Mike Nash on leave, Detective Sergeant Clara Mironova leads the investigation.

The missing woman’s husband is also unaccounted for. Is he responsible, or has she been abducted by the sadistic serial killer nicknamed The Cremator?

A SERIAL KILLER WHO TORTURES AND BURNS HIS VICTIMS ALIVE

Before Nash's return, a security van disappears along with its two-man crew. Further violent crimes are reported and it becomes apparent that nothing is as it seems and no one is quite what they appear to be.

Well, that had certainly had some twists and the answer to “what the he’ll is going on?” is about as clear as the plot of a David Lynch movie! In other words, I had no idea. I like the way the books in this series ‘star’ various members of the team other than just the boss. DI Mike Nash is not around for the whole of this story and DS Clara Mironova steps up. There is also more hands on assistance from their Superintendent.

A woman seems to have been abducted from her home. Her husband is purportedly on a golfing trip to Spain but is unable to be located. At first all indications are that the woman has fallen victim to a vicious serial killer dubbed the Cremator, I’m sure you can work out why. At the same time there is a very well planned heist of a security van transporting a large sum of money. As is so often the case - things are not as they seem. I really enjoyed this tale of devious misdirection.

Alone With A Killer is book six in the DI Mike Nash series by Bill Kitson. One cold and windy night, Dr Jo Grey arrived at the isolated Cottage of her sister Vanda Dawson to find it empty and in darkness. Due to Mike Nash being on holiday Detective Sergeant Clara Mironova caught the case. At first, Detective Sergeant Clara Mironova did not know what was happening. Three unrelated crimes occurred at the same time. Are they related or not? When DI Mike Nash returned from leave, he found his team involved in trying to find answers and waiting for the new Detective Superintendent. The readers of Alone With A Killer will continue to follow DI Mike Nash and Detective Sergeant Clara Mironova to discover what happens.

Alone With A Killer is a fantastic addition to this excellent series by Bill Kitson. I had no problem in engaging with the book from the first page. I enjoy Bill Kitson's stories, and Alone With A Killer continues my love affair with this series. I love Bill Kitson's portrayal of his characters and how they interact throughout this book. Alone With A Killer is well-written and researched by Bill Kitson. I like Bill Kitson's description of the settings of Alone With A Killer.

The readers of Alone With A Killer will learn about the problems that
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder on the suffer and everyone around them. Also, the readers of Alone With A Killer will learn about the role of a civilian clerical officer at a police station.

I recommend this book.

Just keeps on getting better

I have read all of this series and I think that each book has got better than the last.
I have really enjoyed all of them.
It’s enjoyable seeing how all of the characters have grown and developed.
Looking forward to the next book.

The latest of the Mike Nash books (6). An enjoyable easy read, although the author seems to be falling prey to the “that is horrible and I will raise you” school of ramping up the horriffic-ness of the murders. At last the characters are rounding out a little and becoming more human. They are, in fact, growing up! Will read any further books in this series with gusto, as I am addicted to psycho thrillers.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The tension and suspense builds up throughout the book, until you really hate to put it down. I am already anticipating reading the next book in the series. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys reading a really great book.

OK I admit it was unfair coming to this after reading Karen Campbell, but I did find the writing very wooden, the dialogue stiff and too much like 1940s clipped British. The plot was no doubt well-thought through, but time and again I felt I was being hammered over the head with indicators so as not to miss their relevance, with the result that, unusual for me, I'd worked it out well before the end, even though speed-reading much of it.

The sixth book in this excellent series, featuring DI Mike Nash and his team, is another twisting, action-packed cracker.

A woman goes missing while her husband is playing golf in Spain. It appears she’s been abducted by a vicious serial killer, dubbed the Cremator by the press. Nash isn’t convinced, but he’s got his own distractions to deal with. With the thin blue line stretched to breaking, a security van is held up.

Is it coincidence or is there a connection? When more violence and mayhem follow, it’s clear there’s a lot to unravel.

It takes some time to piece together what’s happening in this story, but that’s the beauty of an intriguing mystery. And the more complicated it gets, the more you turn the pages, eager to make sense of what’s happening. That’s the power of the storytelling that drives this police procedural thriller.

I enjoyed catching up with the characters, the humour that lightens the dark tone of the storylines, and the surprises that emerge as Nash begins to piece everything together. Like all the previous books, the climax is exciting and action-packed.

While this can be read on its own, the books are so good you should start at the beginning for maximum pleasure. Click here to check out my reviews of the previous books in the series.

No such thing as closure.

A surprise new addition to Mike Nash's household brings him joy.
Clara & Tom moan about how quiet it is and live to seriously regret!
A serial killer, but both first & last victims don't quite fit the profile. An errant husband, whose wife happens to be the latest victim.
A n armed security van disappears, a cattle trailer is trashed, a bomb in Mike's oven and a bank robbery.
Quite the assortment, requiring different skill sets. The mastermind has been very busy, has the perfect alibi and is running the show, thanks to a new inmate, who secreted a mobile phone in his person for Wardle, painful for him, but his family were well compensated for his discomfort.
Bill Kitson ends this book in a sombre mood, injured, Mike goes to France for a break with family & to recover from his injuries.
An excellent read.

Another belta!
DS Mironova taking centre stage as DI Nash is on unexpected leave due to personal reasons. Cutbacks are causing havoc for the team and on return from his break he is updated on a few recent crimes, some being murderess. Circumstances point to a cold blooded serial killer, has the violent rapist and murderer changed his MO or is there a copycat killer? Things just don't add up. As the investigation increases Nash starts drawing links to other crimes.
It's very tense with different threads entwined.
Without realising it Nash finds himself in grave danger...but why is he targeted?
There are some lighter and happier moments written into this brilliant story line which are well placed in an otherwise gruesome investigation.
Kept me on the edge of my seat. I'll be starting book seven eagerly.

Great story

I truly enjoy this author's writing . While he writes about crime , and this has gruesome details , he injects humor into the characters . There is also more than one plot so the police are busy looking for many clues. DI Nash has an ability to see more than others do in crime scenes , which he is slowly teaching DS Mirinova. He also has a 6 year old son .

Not the best! I gave it four stars but, on reflection, that’s a bit generous. It’s as though Kitson lost interest and just wanted to get the book finished - in addition, adding to my disappointment, my kindle ended the story on 91% when I was expecting much more. I bought books 1-5 as a job lot and thoroughly enjoyed them. I have purchased books 6-10 on the basis of this but fear I shall be disappointed. Introducing Daniel into the story line was, in my view, not a good move.

Alone with a Genius Author!

Another 5 Star review for our beloved author Bill Kitson. I’m loving his books and just can’t get enough of DI Mike Nash! I hope there will be more! I’ve already bought the 9 that have been written, so please Bill, write another DI Nash book. They’re brilliant and I highly recommend them!

Good but Different

Serial killer unmasked. But not the usual way. Some hocus pocus in this one with regard to female "victim. "" In that glossary for dumb Americans why can't they put in an explanation for " weir" and "DVLA?" I'm stumped. Looking forward to Blood Diamond. Did not care for Killing Christmas but enjoyed all the previous in this series.

Nash and team are saddled with some very difficult cases in this book. A security truck completely disappeared, a woman is abducted from her home, and her husband can't be found. Can it be the infamous Cremator who has taken the woman? The team has little to go on.

I was able to figure it out with the hidden clues!
I enjoy this series.

Good read.

Good read. I only found confusing the way the story jumps from one scene to the next in the next paragraph. Some sort of break between scenes would make it easier to follow the story.

Excellent!

Another exciting, unusual murder mystery with too many tentacles to count! It is winter, snowstorm, and not enough police to do all that is needed. Mike and crew manage, as they always do, but not all situations are resolved--- many questions left unanswered!
