I believe this is actually the liner notes to a vinyl anthology. I found it in a used bookstore years ago and finally decided to give it a read. One of the aspects I love about jazz is that it can be enjoyed on an unpretentious, face-value level, while also inviting deeper appreciation as you learn about the music. This volume, effectively a listening guide, provides a great starting point for learning about the genre by suggesting things to listen for in each of the 80+ tunes included in the volume. I've listening to jazz for a while, but had a few new epiphanies while reading through this. It does a decent job of covering the genre, albeit with a somewhat traditionalist-bent. I suggest reading it slowly, and taking your time to listen and digest it one song at a time.

Short booklet. Most of it is info on each recording that comes with it. Very informative.
